Sleep Password Protection Won't Turn Off?
Aug 6, 2013In Control Panel, Power Options, you can choose to not require a password in the sleep mode. Despite setting it this way, it keeps requiring a password. Bug?

Waking From Sleep Mode Delayed With Password Protection?
Mar 16, 2014I am facing the issue that after waking my new Lenovo X240 (with 8.1 installed on SSD) from sleep mode it takes up to 50 seconds until the lock screen appears. After setting up Windows to bypass the lock screen altogether waking from sleep mode now only takes a couple of seconds, which is how I would expect it to be.
However, I would actually like to keep the lock screen for security reasons, but haven't figured out what could be the cause for this massive delay?!

Apr 15, 2013I have an old Dell netbook that crashed (literally) on the ground, broke the screen. Hard drive is intact and accessible by a USB device, but that pesky password I made up to protect the files under my personal username, even though I know it, doesn't appear anywhere for me to access the document. I haven't found references made to it, but the hard drive has Windows XP operating system on it and I am running 8 on the computer I have now. Don't know if that has anything to do with not being able to get control panel to open on that one. I'm trying to continue writing a book I had started on that computer and foolishly didn't save elsewhere.

Jun 8, 2013I would like to make a folder share from a tablet with windows 8 with password protected to a laptop of windows 7 and another of vista. I have followed the tutorial of File Sharing - "Share with" & "Stop Sharing" in Windows 8. My PCs have been set in the same workgroup and same user account, network discovery and file and printer sharing turned on. At the first time, it is OK for windows 7. However after some changes of account (delete and create them on both windows 8 and windows 7), it doesn't work anymore with the error from windows 7 "Login failure: user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer" whenever password protected turned on in windows 8 and only OK when password turned off.

Nov 20, 2013Hey I just got a brand new Dell Inspiron with Windows 8 (got it yesterday). In the power options I have the settings set to sleep when closing the lid of the laptop, but the computer seems to always turn off. When I open the lid, my computer is completely off and I have to press the power button to turn it back on and wait for windows to reload.
This is not a battery problem as it happens even when plugged in. I have also tried using the command prompt "powercfg /hibernate on" but it hasn't fixed anything.
Windows 8 - Sleep Won't Turn Off Computer After Set Time
Feb 12, 2013The display and the sleep feature timers do not work. I just did a complete restore to try and correct this problem and another problem, which was no restore points and no ability to create one. The restore points are working for now, I mean that I was able to create a restore point. The display and sleep timer, not so, still a problem.
I've had this desktop Windows 8 computer since November and honestly I don't know if this has been a problem the whole time or not. Definitely, not the display, I know it has worked, but the sleep timer I'm not sure. I set the timer and just assume it sleeps and then goes into hibernation after a certain amount of time. With all the refreshing and restoring and changing over to this computer, I've not been paying much attention to the sound of the fan or the missing orange color on the power button (not visible, on the side of the computer).
I've set the timer through the Power Options feature in the Control Panel to 10 minutes for the sleep and to turn off the display to 3 minutes. Neither of them respond after set times. The computer is still wide awake and the display is not gone.
I have also gone to the "Change Advance Power Settings" menu box and turned off the hybrid sleep, which didn't work, and the Multimedia Settings in this menu box to turn on the setting "Allow The Computer To Sleep". Neither of these fixes did anything.
How can the computer not respond to something so basic and fundamental to its design?
Lastly, I'm wondering how this idea of powering down works at all. What I would like is for the computer to sleep after 20 minutes and then go into hibernation after 45 minutes. This would be when I'm done for the day. I have set the hibernation time in the "Change Advance Power Settings" menu box, but of course that does not respond either.
Turn On Laptop - Password Field Automatically Filled With Asterisks
Nov 6, 2013Every time i turn on my laptop, my password field is automatically filled with asterisks(*****). Not just few asterisks but the entire password field is covered till no more character is allowed. I have to press and hold backspace key for some time to empty it. The Laptop is Sony Vaio Windows 8 and works just fine apart from this. Yeah, sometimes it automatically fills those asterisks if i click on empty field, for example search field in "my computer". I scanned the Laptop with Avira and Malware Bytes but they found nothing. I even tried "System Restore" but the problem is still there. The Problem appeared suddenly out of nowhere. I didn't install anything and I haven't even connected it to the internet.

So I deleted that 'user' and created a new one with the .live email.

I click on yes, I trust this publisher to run this app, However nothing happens. It still says that Norton Internet Security is turned off. I went into Norton Internet Security, it says that my system is secure and even ran a full system scan for good measure.

Now I find restore points more useful, but I would have to turn the system protection on for an external hard drive. Does it mean, that under some circumstances my manually created full system images could be deleted to create a restore point? I would like to keep the system images. Enter Password Black Screen Doesn't Accept Correct Password?
Aug 12, 2014I tried booting up my PC which has Windows 8 installed and it was working fine until yesterday.
It has a "Enter Password" screen upon start-up and I think it's a virus because it only lets me enter 10 characters and even though, I do put in the correct password, it still says it's incorrect. The computer also shuts down after 3 unsuccessful attempts.

Auto Sleep Mode Works But Manual Sleep Not?
Apr 25, 2014When I leave my computer after a session, it automatically goes into sleep mode after a period of time and remains that way till I wake it up.
However when I manually put it to sleep ( via shutdown options) , it goes to sleep immediately but for only a while ( a few minutes) then it shows the desktop screen again. If I then leave it alone after it self awake , it goes back to sleep as described above.

I used to be able to wake the PC from sleep and not put in a password, and I could turn the PC on after a shutdown without having to put in a password either. Since last week, though, when I turn my PC on, it will boot to the Windows loading screen and after loading for a bit, it will jump into the login screen and immediately report a login error that the username or password is incorrect. This happens before I even get a chance to type a username or password. The fact that I have to type in the username and password is strange because I have the PC set to bypass that option.

Jul 25, 2013I set up the user account using my Microsoft email account. I would like to use a different password on my desktop vs the email password. My email password since it is accessible via web is strong 16 characters long, random characters password and changed often. I would like to change the desktop password to something I can remember, still strong, but I don't change it as often since you have to get physical access to my desktop.
I assumed once I linked to the Microsoft account I could change the password on the machine without it changing my email password.
Is this not possible? I would prefer not to have to lower the security of my email account just to accommodate Windows 8. Never a problem before as my email clients stored the password.
