Setup Installation :: Restore Disc Image To 10 OEM Computers?

Sep 11, 2013

I have 10 computers with identical hardware that all have their own oem license. What I want is to have the same setup on all 10 computers. What I remember from previous Windows versions is that you had to activate Windows individually with its own oem key for every computer you restored with a preferred disk image. From what I read the product key procedure is a bit different in Windows 8 and that the key is stored in the bios? The activation should also be handled automatically by Windows, is that correct?

So what I really wonder is: Do I still have to activate every restored pc manually or will Windos 8 do this for me?

A second related question: Are there any imaging/cloning software that can be set up to promt me for a new computer name in the restore process?

Setup Installation :: How To RESTORE System Image CORRECTLY

Dec 8, 2013

Here is my situation:

-I have now installed and using two sata hard drive (Drive C "500GB" for OS and other programs and Drive D "1TB" for Games and other Documents)

-I also have SYSTEM IMAGE created before and saved it on my external hard drive.

Now I want to RESTORE that SYSTEM IMAGE saved on my external hard drive to the Drive C "500GB"

My asking is HOW TO DO IT CORRECTLY:

>Should I disconnect/unplug the SATA Cable for the Drive D 1TB before I proceed with the system image restore?

(By the way I have no problem with the procedures on how to do the system image restore)

>OR is there a RISK if I just continue with the system image restore with both SATA CABLES for both HDD not removed?

Setup Installation :: Recovery In Win 8.1 Enterprise - Can't Find Image Restore?

Jun 11, 2014

Although I have been able to make a full disk image using the built in "system image" option, I can not find any way to restore it. The recovery options only point to system restore and refresh PC. I'm navigating to <control panel> and then <file history> to access the recovery options. I can not find any restore from system image option anywhere.

Am I missing something, or is it deliberately missing in the Enterprise editions ? If so is there any way I can restore the backup image ?

Accepted the option to have it synchronized with another existing Win 8 computer... it copied over all the apps and personalization settings, which was fine. But now I want to operate the new machine's personalization options separately. If I change a theme or something on one machine, it duplicates it on the other. Can't figure out how to de-couple the two machines.

Setup Installation :: Windows 8 To 8 Pro Fails On 2 New Gateway Computers?

Mar 9, 2013

I bought two new, cheap, Gateway computers for the office, but I need to get them upgraded to Pro so that I can join them to my domain. The computers are pretty decent, though, both w 4GB memory, and one's a dual core, and the other a quad; the dual rates at a 4.1 WEI, and the quad is a 4.5.

My Win 8 media was created from my MS Action Pack subscription and should be valid for upgrading this computer.

I tried all of the standard install options for Win 8 from that media, but each time the computer goes through the whole process and finally reboots itself back to where it was before and simply says "Windows 8 Upgrade Fails".

I've thought about wacking the partitions, and installing 8 from scratch, but I guess I'd rather not if I didn't have to...

how I can get this upgrade to go through?

Oh yeah, and where is the setup log? I looked in C:windowspanthersetuperr.log but that file was empty.

Setup Installation :: How To Make A Set Of Recovery Disc

Jun 15, 2014

One of the first things I did when I had my new PC last year was to make a set of recovery discs. Now having used the free upgrade to Windows 8.1 I would like to make a set of backup discs for this version, however, my pc say that a set has already been made and I can only make the one set.

If things stay like this, when I want to do a recovery using either the hdd partition or the discs I made, it installs Windows 8 and then I have to install what seems like a million updates before I then have to go back to the store and do the upgrade to 8.1.

Is there a way I can make a recovery dvd's for the 8.1 version ?

Setup Installation :: Cannot Get Clean Install With Full Win 8 Disc

Jul 26, 2013

As the title states, every time I have gone through the install I still end up with old windows files and an option to boot Win 8 or "older version" I have deleted all partitions on the drive and selected the format option (twice now) but each time the Windows 8 install completes I am presented with this option. This is using a full version Windows 8 disc, not an upgrade.

How can I get past this or get a completely clean install? The old version isn't even complete - it's actually from an aborted install start-up from XP that was inadvertently run as I swapped drives and tried to fix and issue on the machine. Otherwise this disc isn;t even an OS disc, it was used for storing music files as a second drive

I also tried a reformat with Ubuntu and format from the repair option out of the Win 8 setup (I had previously done so from the install option - deleting all partitions, formating, then installing). The disk looked clean but as soon as I boot, it launches back into the XP setup or if I boot from the Win 8 disc and install Windows 8, still ends up with the dual OS option. I don't understand how a repartitioned/reformatted disk is retaining these Windows setup/system files.

Setup Installation :: No Recovery Disc Made And Formatted Hard Drive

Aug 21, 2013

I bought a brand new Acer Aspire xc600 today and it had Windows 8 installed. First thing me and my husband did was to try to install win7 (as we dislike Windows 8 for many reasons)... When it didnt work with just putting in the cd and install, we (stupidly without making recovery discs as we thought we would never need it) formated the drive and made it completely clean before installing win7 (which works now). This means we have no Windows 8 recovery disc or E-recovery management program and therefor cant do factory reset and return this piece of crap pc... (We play world of warcraft and my 7year old pc has only been updated once when it comes to graphic card to geforce 9800 and still perform better outside the game).

The performance test of the whole system give the graphics a lousy 5.0 which is worse than my husbands 3yr old graphic card as well! Only numbers that have increased is the RAM and CPU.

I feel disappointed as the graphics card should be better than mine or my husbands and have better performance even if its the "laptop sized card".

So to the issue, is there a way we could restore/reinstall the computer to factory settings with Windows 8 and Acers drivers as it was when we started it up earlier today?

Apps / Software :: ISO Error - Disc Image Not Formatted For NTFS

Sep 15, 2014

OK, so I made a backup DVD of some OS related programs for my computers onto a DVD, but when I attempted to MOUNT the image from the disk to Win 8.1's included virtual drive, I get an error that the Disc Image is not formatted for NTFS file system, and cannot be mounted.

I can copy the files from the disc to a location on the desktop and execute the files from there, but it's a royal pain in the neck to do this every time.

(Yes, I understand, I probably will need to build a new image and burn it to a new DVD, but I want to make it one that I can run the disc from my optical drive and it will work!).

USB is volatile storage, and can be erased. I prefer hardcopy backups for this reason.

Setup Installation :: Recovery Image Not Found

Dec 20, 2013

I am sure I have recovery images. Factory, and refresh. Asus shipped no recovery media. I obtained a copy of windows 8. I found out what my product key is. I have attempted every which way i can think of to get my system to recognize my recovery images exist. If i try to use "reset your pc" option it tells me unable to reset your pc. A required drive partition is missing.

If i choose system image recovery, hit cancel because it thinks the partition that definitely exists, doesn't, choose select a system image. Gives me a blank list. Choose Advanced...install a driver (you don't need to install sata driver as it recognizes my hard drive and Is listing it to choose a driver from should need be) i get an error installation had failed.

Internal error occurred (0x8007054F). No matter which driver IM trying to install. Usb, sata, dvd etc... So can't get my system image from my 32 gig stick, or my hdd.Image won't fit on dvd's. Worried i won't be able to do a clean install, as Asus's backups seem do reliable in mysituation(sarcasm) that i will lose all functionality like DVD playback, smart gesture touchpad, and some driver related setbacks.

I have checked and rechecked, and i have three system images to choose from. Total of six partitions.

Setup Installation :: Clean Install Of Windows 8 Without Install Disc?

Jan 20, 2013

I just got a new laptop, a Lenovo X230, for which I paid extra to have the OS on it as Windows 8 Pro.

So--now I have it, and Win 8 Pro 64 is installed and activated on it. I am a legal owner of Win 8 Pro.

However, I would like to do a clean install of Win 8 on the computer, to have it free of bloatware, etc. (In fact, I would like to set up a multi-boot with Win 7, and perhaps even triple boot with Xp as well. (I have installation media and my product keys for XP and 7 though, so those are not really a problem.)

The computer came with no discs at all. There is a procedure to make recovery disks. I may do that, but I think those will be to restore the computer to how it came from the factory, and therefore not usable for a clean install.

I don't see my product key for Win 8 anywhere. Not on the computer, not on any kind of card that came with it, etc.

I looked at the tutorial here for clean install of Windows 8, but it requires an install disc and product key. I have neither, although I am a legal owner of Windows 8.

Is there a way I can create (from my installed Windows 8) a win 8 install disk, that can be used for a clean install? Or a link to download one? Is there a way I can get my product key?

Setup Installation :: Can't Restore Windows 8 64-bit

Nov 6, 2013

Final steps in my recovery process. I'm running a Windows 8 recovery disc off of a USB, and I'm trying to restore, refresh, reset, anything at this point.

But I go into all the troubleshooting options and advanced options and it doesn't allow me to "choose a target operating system" as nothing appears such as my Windows 8.

I'm on an Asus laptop, I've backed-up my files to an external hdd, so at this point I just want to get my laptop running again. This all started with the "automatic repair loop" to which I've used EasyRE to purchase a recovery disc, backed up my files, and now I'm at this point where I can't finalize the process.

Also how should I be booting from a USB properly?I hold F2 on start up, switch to "Boot" and set "Launch CSM" to Enabled. Then switch to "Security" and set "Secure Boot Control" to Disabled. Then restart and hold Esc for the Boot menu and boot from the USB.

I'm willing to do whatever to simply reset my laptop. Tried everything that I've found, text in that black command box (I'm really not too flash with computers) like the chkdsk and it all came out fine. It's just when I go to try to recover/restore/reset ANYTHING when I've booted from the USB it tells me there isn't an operating system to do so from.

Setup Installation :: Creating Windows 8.1 Image Containing Metro Apps

Aug 27, 2014

I have been doing so research lately into system imaging and deploying said image across multiple devices.

I want to image Surface Pro 3s (about 40 of them) with several dozen apps from the app store. My understanding is that if I want to use an image across multiple devices I have to use sysprep to generalize the image. The problem is any app off the app store is account specific and cannot be generalize. If you try to sysprep with apps installed you will get a Fetal Error, and you cant install apps from the store while in audit mode either.

Are there any options available to me, or will this have to be done manually?
