How do I burn files over to my DVD Disc? With windows 8 there's no "Burn" button when it says "Files ready to be written on the disc". Windows 7 was so much simpler, what do I do now?

I installed Windows 8 Pro on a Dell Studio 1537 laptop that used to run Vista. Win 8 Pro was installed in Dec 2012 and has all Microsoft Windows 8 updates installed.
When I try to burn files on a blank DVD disc using Windows 8's Explorer, I get a message that says:
"Insert a disc Please insert a writable disc into drive M:"
The blank disc is then ejected. Even if I reinsert a different blank DVD disc and try again, the same thing happens.
However, if I open ImgBurn and use the "same" blank DVD disc, ImgBurn recognizes the blank DVD disc and is ready to burn.
It should be noted that I never tried to burn DVDs using Vista's Explorer so I don't know if that ever worked. I just used ImgBurn while I was running Vista. I know I can just use ImgBurn with Windows 8 but I would like to know why Win 8's Explorer won't recognize blank DVD discs. Is this a known problem that has a fix?
I have an acer aspire desktop pc windows 8 its 6 months old. When i try to burn an audio cd it will only burn 99% and then it ejects the disc. I have tried to play the cd in my stereo which plays ordinary and mp3 but it reads but cannot play the tracks.
It will play in my computer.
I have tried burning with the same batch of cds on my laptop and it works fine.
I have a 32-bit version of XP on my system, so when I do an upgrade within the XP OS. It automatically upgrades me to the 32-bit Windows 8. The actual installation went fine, without a hitch actually.
I have a 64-bit version of Vista that I may go ahead and do a clean install of first, just so I can upgrade to the 64-bit of Windows 8. But when I was going through the upgrade program, I never saw the option to create the ISO DVD or Flash drive. The only options were, "Install now, or install from desktop later". I chose "install from Desktop later" and found that all it did was suspend the installation until I clicked the desktop icon, which then just loaded the upgrade without giving me the option to create the DVD or Flash disk. Is there somewhere I can download the ISO so that I can create a disk?
I upped from 7 to 8 via OTA download. Set up, set up passord(admin), etc. and decided I didn't like and want to do a Factory reset so I can sell.
Can I factory reset, and how?
I have Windows 8 x64 preinstalled on my Toshiba Laptop. I created a startup disk (DVD) but i cannot boot from the DVD/CD Drive. I set my BIOS to boot from my DVD Drive but i think the problem may be my autoplay settings from DVD Drive. I just don't know how to set them up. the Disk is fine it is not scratched or anything. I don't know how to set up my media devices especially optical so that i can boot from the DVD Drive!
View 1 Replies View RelatedOne of the first things I did when I had my new PC last year was to make a set of recovery discs. Now having used the free upgrade to Windows 8.1 I would like to make a set of backup discs for this version, however, my pc say that a set has already been made and I can only make the one set.
If things stay like this, when I want to do a recovery using either the hdd partition or the discs I made, it installs Windows 8 and then I have to install what seems like a million updates before I then have to go back to the store and do the upgrade to 8.1.
Is there a way I can make a recovery dvd's for the 8.1 version ?
I got Windows 8 from Uni as a free download for every student. Today I updated to 8.1 hoping to be able to a clean install as my PC is getting a bit clogged. Is there a way that I can do a clean install with out having a disc or the original download of 8 (have the download for 8.1 obviously) I don't have the key still either can I get it through the system?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAs the title states, every time I have gone through the install I still end up with old windows files and an option to boot Win 8 or "older version" I have deleted all partitions on the drive and selected the format option (twice now) but each time the Windows 8 install completes I am presented with this option. This is using a full version Windows 8 disc, not an upgrade.
How can I get past this or get a completely clean install? The old version isn't even complete - it's actually from an aborted install start-up from XP that was inadvertently run as I swapped drives and tried to fix and issue on the machine. Otherwise this disc isn;t even an OS disc, it was used for storing music files as a second drive
I also tried a reformat with Ubuntu and format from the repair option out of the Win 8 setup (I had previously done so from the install option - deleting all partitions, formating, then installing). The disk looked clean but as soon as I boot, it launches back into the XP setup or if I boot from the Win 8 disc and install Windows 8, still ends up with the dual OS option. I don't understand how a repartitioned/reformatted disk is retaining these Windows setup/system files.
Is it possible to create restore discs that return the PC back to factory state (just out of box, never turned on)?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have 10 computers with identical hardware that all have their own oem license. What I want is to have the same setup on all 10 computers. What I remember from previous Windows versions is that you had to activate Windows individually with its own oem key for every computer you restored with a preferred disk image. From what I read the product key procedure is a bit different in Windows 8 and that the key is stored in the bios? The activation should also be handled automatically by Windows, is that correct?
So what I really wonder is: Do I still have to activate every restored pc manually or will Windos 8 do this for me?
A second related question: Are there any imaging/cloning software that can be set up to promt me for a new computer name in the restore process?
I bought a brand new Acer Aspire xc600 today and it had Windows 8 installed. First thing me and my husband did was to try to install win7 (as we dislike Windows 8 for many reasons)... When it didnt work with just putting in the cd and install, we (stupidly without making recovery discs as we thought we would never need it) formated the drive and made it completely clean before installing win7 (which works now). This means we have no Windows 8 recovery disc or E-recovery management program and therefor cant do factory reset and return this piece of crap pc... (We play world of warcraft and my 7year old pc has only been updated once when it comes to graphic card to geforce 9800 and still perform better outside the game).
The performance test of the whole system give the graphics a lousy 5.0 which is worse than my husbands 3yr old graphic card as well! Only numbers that have increased is the RAM and CPU.
I feel disappointed as the graphics card should be better than mine or my husbands and have better performance even if its the "laptop sized card".
So to the issue, is there a way we could restore/reinstall the computer to factory settings with Windows 8 and Acers drivers as it was when we started it up earlier today?
I was having problems getting to the boot menu of my Lenovo G580 laptop earlier.
I figured out how to get the boot menu - But my only options are hard drive, LAN v4 and LAN v6 boot - Nothing about a disc. So I went into the BIOS boot priority menu and set disk to #1 - It still booted to my hard drive!

View 9 Replies View RelatedTrying to use Windows to burn files to a DVD. I go into the explorer window. Click share. Then burn to disc. Sometimes it gives me the error that the folder is in the same location of the source folder. And now it just the destination has the same names. And wants me to cancel or replace. If I replace it just hangs there. I used Nero and was able to write to the DVD fine so I know its not a DVD issue. It opens a duplicate window and at the bottom of the files it lists the new files ready to be written.

So--now I have it, and Win 8 Pro 64 is installed and activated on it. I am a legal owner of Win 8 Pro.
However, I would like to do a clean install of Win 8 on the computer, to have it free of bloatware, etc. (In fact, I would like to set up a multi-boot with Win 7, and perhaps even triple boot with Xp as well. (I have installation media and my product keys for XP and 7 though, so those are not really a problem.)
The computer came with no discs at all. There is a procedure to make recovery disks. I may do that, but I think those will be to restore the computer to how it came from the factory, and therefore not usable for a clean install.
I don't see my product key for Win 8 anywhere. Not on the computer, not on any kind of card that came with it, etc.
I looked at the tutorial here for clean install of Windows 8, but it requires an install disc and product key. I have neither, although I am a legal owner of Windows 8.
Is there a way I can create (from my installed Windows 8) a win 8 install disk, that can be used for a clean install? Or a link to download one? Is there a way I can get my product key?

I have recently formatted my old windows. But now I am not able to install windows 8(actually even windows XP and seven) . When I try to boot from USB setup starts But 'Getting files ready' (which is second step of installation) stucks at midway like at 14% or 52% or 74% i.e. at any arbitary percentage and nothing happens . Actually I am able to move my cursor but installation no more proceeds further . I have just installed Win 8 Pro to a new SSD and have read that frequent rewritten files and folders should be moved to the HDD, Which ones are they referring to and how would I do this? When they say that frequently used applications should go on the SSD what are some examples? What about games?

Whenever I do, I get a message saying I don't have the right permissions, etc.
I am the sole user on my computer and the security settings in the properties for every file / folder I'm trying to access have my username, and administrators listed as having Full Access.
Went from an Intel MB and CPU to an AMD setup before realizing that wouldn't just be able to boot into my existing windows installation when I first plug everything in. From what I've seen on the forums I've decided to reinstall Windows 8 on the machine. The problem is that I need to recover the files on the old Windows installation. I have 2 HDDs to play with.
What should I do? Make a LiveCD of some kind and install Windows on a new partition? Make an Ubuntu LiveCD and transfer the files to the other HDD then install Windows?

I want to build an EFI/USB from an ISO of a bootable third party application, which is not designed to boot from UEFI. First, I went through the steps in Diskpart. Then, I copied the files from the third party ISO to the USB stick. Screenshot 34 shows the objects listed from the third party ISO. The second screenshot (35) shows what I have on my Win 8.1 ISO. I tried to just copy the efi folder and bootmgr files from the Win 8 ISO, but my Win 8 system (a VM) didn't like that at all. !
