I have just installed Win 8 Pro to a new SSD and have read that frequent rewritten files and folders should be moved to the HDD, Which ones are they referring to and how would I do this? When they say that frequently used applications should go on the SSD what are some examples? What about games?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to understand the licence on my Windows 8 Media. I bought Windows 8.0 last year, not an upgrade, and not with a PC.
It's got a section on installing on a PC for personal use. I want to un-install/remove from 1 PC, and install it on a New PC.
It's not clear how I achieve this.? The only 3 things it's say's I cant do:
- Use as upgrade
- Legalize a non-genuine install
- License more than 5 copies for commercial use.??
So is there a method to follow to avoid activation issues.? And it telling me this is already installed on another PC.?
Need to move partition over, did a minimal image restore with my new laptop. What it does is skip the recovery partition setup. So instead of 4 partitons I have 3. The problem is the first partition is now a 401 mb unallocated partition, the second is the EFI partition, and c: drive is last. When attempting to move unallocated 401 mb to the end of drive, so I can extend it, the program I use, EaseUS partiton does not "see" the first 401 mb and intead shows 0.0 unallocated space. Because of this I cannot resize/move the partition. What other method is there to remedy the situation.

So I have thought to buy a Samsung 840 Pro 128GB SSD and install it along with my HDD. So my question is that is there any way to move all the files from my C: drive to that SSD and make that SSD as boot drive without losing all my files. Then my 1.5 TB HDD would be my data storing drive.

I have recently formatted my old windows. But now I am not able to install windows 8(actually even windows XP and seven) . When I try to boot from USB setup starts But 'Getting files ready' (which is second step of installation) stucks at midway like at 14% or 52% or 74% i.e. at any arbitary percentage and nothing happens . Actually I am able to move my cursor but installation no more proceeds further . I have tried to format many times and to run installation but everytime installation stuck at midaway without any error .
My laptop specs are : Acer aspire 5745 , 500GB HDD , 3GB RAM , intel core i3 processor
I can't move files from one destination to another.
For example:
I have a few files in a folder called New Folder in my documents, I try to drag them out my that folder and directly into my documents so I can remove the folder. But when I drag them into my document it transfers them all but then if I refresh the window it just reverts to its previous location? It does the same when I move from the desktop to any folder.
as I have put up with it for weeks now and I'm sick of it. My desktop is too cluttered because I am unable to move files.However If i place everything into a folder on my desktop and then drag the folder to my documents that works but then I can't move them out my folder into my documents, my pictures, my music etc.

I have: x4 .gif images, x14 .jpg images, and x5 .png images in my Code: C:UsersSampleUserDownloadsimg14
folder and want to move them to these desired locations via cmd.

Any way I can go about this using a single command? Multiple commands will work just fine as well, as long it's not one too many commands.

I have some files and shortcuts on my desktop, and I am trying to move them into my documents. When I refresh my documents they just disappear and they do not reappear in documents or the desktop. Only when I restart or log out do they reappear on the desktop. Whats causing this?

I work a lot with professional Audio Production and I just tried to move some files that were created last year on the same PC (using windows 7 64-bit at the time) from one folder to another on the same partition. I used the 'take ownership' context item and even added my user name (only user on my PC) with all permissions. But I still couldn't move them (not one application or folder open that was using the files inside).
In the end I had to copy/paste and delete the originals afterwards. They deleted fine, but wouldn't allow moving. How to avoid this in future, so that I can just move the files?

I want to automate one process that I do from time to time. I have many folders, sometimes like 90 folders and I want to move them all into a single folder, the filenames are the same so they overwrite. I can overwrite them, in fact, I should, I just want to move all files from many folders into one folder, not doing it manually. Is there a command in CMD that can do that? Programs are mainly installed to C: but I have also some programs installed to E: Program Files, Program Files (68), Program Data etc . Now I want to to move E-drive contents to another hard drive (all files stored on e-drive).
I think the safest way is to reinstall all programs, but I don't want to do this. Also it is possible to move files to new partition which has another drive letter than e: and create link, but this I don't want to do either.
Can I do it like this:
1) Change e-drive letter to x
2) Create new e-drive to another hard drive
3) Copy e-drive contents to new e-dive
4) that is it?
Can I use normal copy - paste to copy all files? I think register references are the same after these steps because drive letter and content of the e-drive are still the same.
Does my method work? It sound so easy to do. Is it "too easy"? Does it have any risks?
I need to download a copy of Windows 8 Pro 64-bit and save it to a DVD with files already on it. Will it work?
My second SSD went out in my computer and I won't get paid again until Thursday. In the meantime, I'd like to install Windows 8 to a 100GB partition on the 1 TB SATA hdd I've been using for storage in that pc.
Then buy a 80 GB SATA hdd to install Windows 8 Pro 64-bit and upgrade to 8.1.
I have Win 7 installed on an SSD with all other files on separate disks. (User files, etc) Can I also install, to dual boot, Win 8 and point everything to the same user files on the same separate disks?

I can't rename them or move them or delete them. Every time i try any of these things i am being told that: "the element wasn't found. I upgraded to Windows 8 yesterday from the Consumer Preview, and while the upgrade seems to have gone along fine, I can no longer access any of my files that were recovered from the windows.old file. Whenever I do, I get a message saying I don't have the right permissions, etc.

Went from an Intel MB and CPU to an AMD setup before realizing that wouldn't just be able to boot into my existing windows installation when I first plug everything in. What should I do? Make a LiveCD of some kind and install Windows on a new partition? Make an Ubuntu LiveCD and transfer the files to the other HDD then install Windows?
How do I burn files over to my DVD Disc? With windows 8 there's no "Burn" button when it says "Files ready to be written on the disc". Windows 7 was so much simpler, what do I do now?

I have a Router, an Ethernet Cable and a Crossover Cable.
Note: The Router (older Netgear) always shows up as "Unidentified network". However, I can successfully share the Laptop's Internet Connection to it via the Ethernet port. It is joined to the HomeGroup and is a Private network.
The Router's IP Address is 192.168.1.1 which I can connect to using the Smartphone over Wi-Fi.

I have a file I'm trying to move into a subdirectory under program files/windows apps.
I get an error that I don't have permissions.
So, I take ownership of the entire program files directory and all subdirectories and files under it.
So, now I am the owner of the whole directory, but I still can't move/copy the file into.
I am also the owner of the source file; and of course I'm logged under the same name as the owner.

I want to build an EFI/USB from an ISO of a bootable third party application, which is not designed to boot from UEFI. First, I went through the steps in Diskpart. Then, I copied the files from the third party ISO to the USB stick. Screenshot 34 shows the objects listed from the third party ISO. The second screenshot (35) shows what I have on my Win 8.1 ISO. I tried to just copy the efi folder and bootmgr files from the Win 8 ISO, but my Win 8 system (a VM) didn't like that at all. !
