Occasional Memory Reference Error Fix?
Jan 25, 2014
Recently I updated to 8.1, and now after maybe a week I get the occasional Instruction memory error with 0x000000 type codes.
At one point whenever I logged in it would popup with explorer.exe failed, so I wouldn't be able to do anything on the PC, I restored to a system restore point and it now is gone, however I will see it every now and again. Not a big deal now, but I would like to repair it if possible, as it obviously can't be doing any good for the PC.

I've run disk cleaner and System error memory dumps took almost 15GB WTF is that?
I don't get any BSOD nor crashes nor any stability issues, except some update which won't let me install.

Four BSOD today, all with the same error. I can't think of anything that would have caused this. Memory test shows no errors with the RAM. Blue screen's have occurred both shortly after startup without any stress on the system, as well as after it hadn't been shut down for a while with lots open. I can't find anything that forces it to blue screen, seems fairly random (it's happened while I'm not even using the system). Dumps at the very bottom.
Much longer summary: I've got an Asus S400C on windows 8.1 that's about 6 months old. It's been really good to me but recently has seemed a little unstable,(or maybe that's me just thinking badly about it now! I would have said it occasionally hangs more than I think it should for a newish laptop) - but nothing I couldn't put up with. This morning it gave a BSOD with KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR. In fairness it had been a while since it had been properly shutdown (i tend to just put it into standby by closing the lid) and I also had quite a lot of things open. I still wouldn't expect it to bluescreen like that though.
I think I've had the same blue screen once before, about 3 weeks ago. Today it blue screened four times in total - the three other times without me asking much of the laptop at all (only word, chrome and itunes open). Definitely not right!
I've run the memory test and it found no errors. Yesterday I replaced a qualcomm wifi driver with a microsoft one (both ones that were already on the system) but reverting back hasn't stopped the blue screens so I don't think it was related to that (it also was fine yesterday evening after changing). I've also uninstalled Asus Liveupdate because it's always saying it's "stopped working..."
It might be unrelated but 2 weeks ago I opened the lid of the laptop to find that I could move the cursor but had an otherwise blank screen (on, but displaying black except for a cursor. Normal resolution though!). I coudn't get it to do anything so held the power button, and when it turned back on it said it was doing automatic recovery, and checking the harddisk - it took about 3 hours to do. Afterwards it booted up and worked.
I've tried to investigate the dmp files with my basic ability to google and something that crops up is win8_driver_error. Also it usually says "Probably caused by : ntkrnlmp.exe".

My computer was fine one day then, today when I was just browsing the internet it crashes. The computer restarts and then tells me there was a problem, then when I log in I get nothing but a black screen but my mouse can still move around. sometimes when starting up it takes me to the page and asks what to do. I tried refreshing the pc first and it did nothing. I then started it in safe mode and ran sfc /scannow on command prompt and it told me there were problems but it couldn't solve some of them it gave me something to look up but once again it crashed and restarted before I could read it.
I've had the computer for just over a year and it has always had windows 8.

The computer would just freeze up and not go to blue screen, However, since upgrading to Windows 8.1 it has been giving me a blue screen and error message, what could be wrong. I am positive the errors over the years have all been by the same, as what causes them and what occurs after is always the same.
After booting up, if I decide to play a game, practically any that require 3-d graphics, the game will start to slow down and the audio will start to crackle. Then, the computer will freeze up. When I ran Windows Vista it just stayed frozen, but now during Windows 8.1 it goes to blue screen and shuts off. After rebooting, everything runs perfectible normally and I can run any game perfectly without slowdown or freezing. Then, after shutting down and rebooting another day the same problem will arise.
It's not necessarily the worst error, but I don't quite like leaving my computer in sleep mode as it still drains some power. From what I gathered for Blue Screen View, it seems to be a memory issue. The first error code I received when using Windows 8.1 was PFN list corrupt. That prompted me to test and reseat the ram. Windows Memory Diagnostic came out clean, but the error persists. The latest time I have had this problem, the error was Memory Management, 0x0000001a.
I have updated the BIOS to latest version and have overclocked my RAM, however, the problem existed before O.C.

I am currently working on a desktop and ended up formatting the HDD it was in RAID, but removed the other and switched connection to SATA...
Wiped everything off of it and loaded Windows onto it,
On EVERY boot I get the same error message
"Fatal Error - failed to locate memory table(s) to make adjustments, press any key to continue"
I press any key and it continues to boot into the windows..
I have done some research on other forums, and end up finding the same issue "reload windows there are some file issues" but that's not my issue, because i CHANGED the RAM 2 times with different ram AND installed windows 4 different times.

Windows 8. Occasionally, my computer just stutters (freezes for about half a second) several times in a row, ranging from about 6 to 10 times in a row. Literally everything will stop and freeze during that moment; the screen, sound, mouse, my friends even report that my mic input stutters. This happens about once every hour, usually a bit less than that.
It doesn't matter what I'm doing with the computer when this happens; Playing games, watching a video on YT or just on the desktop, doing nothing.
I've done a few recent changes a few weeks back too. I replaced my NVidia GeForce 470 with the NVidia Geforce 660 Ti. I had also connected my sis' laptop's HDD around there as well, when her laptop broke down.
I've done a SFC scan and I've updated my NVidia drivers multiple times.
My specs:
OS: Windows 8 Enterprise 64 bit
VCard: NVidia GeForce GTX 660 Ti
RAM: 2x 4GB DDR3
CPU: Intel i5 760 @ 2.80GHz

I upgraded my computer from windows 7 to windows 8 on day 1, relatively no problems since then.
About last week I started having trouble with wifi, not sure if its HP bios updates or Windows 8 general updates that may have caused the problem. It's not that it disconnects often, its more like once every few days. Still an annoying problem when I'm working on something and I have to go into my wifi connection and disconnect then reconnect.
Its not the router connection, I've checked it at the same time on my phone and ipad and it's working fine.

Motherboard: Gigabyte P67A-D3-B3 (don't really know the rev on this one)
GPU: ATI Radeon 6770 HD 1 GB, original clocking on 850 mhz
Processor: Intel Core i5 2500 3,30 Ghz (No OC on this one)
RAM: Team Elite 8GB (2x4096MB) CL11 1600 Mhz
HDD: 500 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM SATA 6Gbit/s
Sometimes, not very often my windows 8 stutters and making every program that im running on the computer lag, it is 4 significant stutters that's driving me crazy, i just made a complete reformatting and a clean install of the operative system and it still occurs from time to time.
The operative system is "Windows 8 Pro x64" without Media Center.

my brother brought over a burned dvd on easter, played fine, nothing weird happened. the next day BSODs like woah, firefox and chrome crashing at random intervals. i tried system restore, it seems to have decreased the frequency of blue screens but they still happen and the browsers crash just as often. i'm pretty sure i'm running windows 7 (i know nothing about computers) i'm not a hundred percent sure the DVD was the culprit, but its a big coincidence if its not. hopefully i did the diagnostic thing right, i'll try and upload. earlier something strange happened where i had no sound, could not open the volume menu, tried to click shut down, nothing happened. had to give the old power button smothering to restart and now it seems okay.

My PC
CPU: i7 2700K
MoBo: Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H
GPU: Gigabyte GTX 670
Surround Sound Receiver: Onkyo 515
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro
My pc has been running great for about two years now, but starting a couple weeks ago I have been noticing an occasional audio "hiccup" once or twice per hour where everything seems to lag out for a half-second. If a computer could fart it would sound like this stutter I am talking about.
This audio stutter occurs whether i am listening to music, watching videos, or playing games. I have since performed a clean re-install of windows 8.1, and run the system file checker to verify the integrity of my OS files, but the problem persists. I have tried two of the most recent Nvidia drivers (including a beta) for the GTX 670, and will try reverting back to older drivers next.
I don't believe it to be a problem with the receiver because I have tested it on other inputs (TV, PS3) and the problem is not seen (heard) there.

System = Win 8 Pro-64, 4 X 60 GB, RAID 10 (300 GB), AMD Quad, 8 GB RAM.
I upgraded from XP-32 To Win 8 Pro-64. My RAID drive "C:" had ~60 GB on it with XP. After the move to Win 8 Pro, C: had ~70 GB. After running Win 8 for about 1-1/2 months drive C: is suddenly almost full. 4.5 GB free space. Now I'm getting weird errors and an occasional disk full notice. What happened?

Temporary freezes and occasional "not responding" messages are not often seen in Windows 8, but occur much more frequently than they do in W7. Same hardware, same software. Only the drives and a few drivers differ.
These hesitations arise in various programs or while manipulating UI options, and have since the earliest Windows 8 betas, though they have become less frequent with each release. No forum messages that I have come across relate specifically to this random issue.
Additionally, Windows 8 is a multitasking slug as contrasted to W7 when, for example, a large file is downloading in the background. Open another program in W7 and it pops up almost immediately; open in Windows 8 and it takes 15-30'. Priority has been assigned to both "programs" and "background services." Made no difference.
2600 Intel CPU, ASUS P8P67le MB, NVidia 210 GPU, at least 28G free space on each drive.
How to overcome it?

Ever since I installed Windows 8 (and now Windows 8.1 Pro Preview Build 9431), I hear occasional buzzing sounds while playing .mp3 files on my desktop computer (Dell XPS 8500). This occurs using both iTunes and Winamp. The .mp3 files play fine on other devices, such as my iPod. This makes me suspect that this is a Windows problem.

I'm trying to run MEMTEST86 to test some memory which I suspect is bad so I can RMA it. I have 2x kits of 8GB DDR3 memory. Since I put in the second kit my PC has randomly been rebooting with no onscreen errors. I took that 8GB kit out and now it doesn't reboot anymore. But in order to have it RMA'd Corsair requires me to provide Memtest results.
Anyway, my PC doesn't have an optical drive so I have used memtest's USB Boot installer thing to create a bootable USB stick and plugged that in.
I am running Windows 8 and an Asus P8Z77-M Pro motherboard.
When I go in the BIOS the USB drive is detected there, it is a Lexar drive. If I set my boot order to be USB -> then my SSD it doesn't boot from the USB at all, it just goes straight to booting into Windows.
If I just tap F8 whilst booting to manually choose what I want to boot from I see the Lexar USB stick in there but if I choose it I start to see that Windows 8 blue dot rotating loading thing, then it just freezes in place and nothing happens. Neither the USB or Windows boots at that point and I have to manually reboot the PC.
Something of note in order to get Windows to boot normally I can't specifically choose my SSD as the boot device, I have to choose the uhh..I think it's called Windows Boot Loader or something like that in the BIOS.

Ocassionally my computer will become so slow it's almost unresponsive, when I check task manager it says 7.2 of 7.9GB of ram is in use. Even rebooting it, it will come back with high memory usage, sometimes rebooting it, it goes back to normal
Most of the time it is normal and fast, I can have Chrome open and have 10 pages open and usage is about 1GB, but what causes this to happen occasionally when I'm just surfing the internet?
I have Win 8, Intel 4670K, Z87, 8GB DDR1333.

Big problem with my laptop. Due to the fact that it is a compaq610 notebook pc and I have upgraded him to win 8 pro the machine was going very slowly. so i bought 2x 2GB DDR2 PC2 6400 sodimm ram. When I put in 1x 2GB there is no problems except its still to slow.
HP says that there can be a upgrade till 4 GB 2x2GB, so i bought that and when i installed it the win 8 start up hangs when the Windows 8-loge appears and than the dotted circle stops and everything freezes!
When I go into the bios, I can check the memory so check of 4 GB of memory goes well until 24% than the graphics does strange blocked screen n different colors. Strange that each mem of 2GB single placed works fine. How to get the 4GB working on my laptop?

Attempting to print from photo gallery, it complains that I am out of memory, nothing else is open and I have 1.5G RAM let to utilise.
See screenshot attached of the error.
It also has an issue generating the preview when pressing print. I assume the 2 errors are symptoms of the same underlying problem.
I think this might be something to do with printer drivers? Do I need to re-install these?

I have Windows 8.1 x64 installed. In the task manager, it shows me that 35% Memory is used. Now, when I add up all the Memory MB's within the task manager it goes to around 1100MB maximum.. On my machine, I have 8GB RAM and it also shows the same in the system about window since I have the 64-bit windows installed.
Doing a quick calculation of (1200/8000)*100 = 15..So, my system memory should display 15% used. Then why is it still showing around 37%? I have also tried running virus scans but have no infections as such... Also, one of the biggest memory hoggers is the 'Service Host: Local System'.

I bought this Vaio with Core i5-3210M, 4Gb Ram, Windows 8 64 bit. I had really high hopes for it, coming from an i3. For the first few weeks it worked fine, but then it started to freeze while watching movies. Then it started happening all the time, and the cooling fan became consistently noisy for working at full capacity.
I was used to opening task manager on older systems when this happened to see if there was a non-responding program and force it closed, so I noticed Task Manager offers some more features in Win 8. Here, I see that CPU usage is high, staying always around 70% and from time to time reaching 100. At this moment, the process taking the biggest slice is called VCS System Tray with 58%.
What's perhaps more concerning, is that Disk usage is almost constantly on 100%. And by this I mean it reaches 100 and stays there for long periods of time, perhaps up to 20 minutes, then it falls down a few seconds and up again to 100. During this time the computer is excruciatingly painful to use. To even open a program takes forever. When this happens, it seems that Chrome is at the top of the list of processes with most disk usage, with about 1-2Mbps, but this sometimes changes and the list can be led by System, Utorrent, Octoshape, VCS System Tray, Communications Service...I think it's not related to any process by itself, but its nearly ALWAYS at 100%.
Finally, memory usage is also pretty high at 78%, but I guess this may be because 4Gb is not too much for this computer. I'm hoping to upgrade to 8 soon. Out of the 10 processes consuming most memory, 9 is Google Chrome (how's that even possible?).

I just bought a brand new Lenovo U310 Touch and so far I absolutely love it. The only thing I noticed that struck me as odd is that when I look in Task Manager it shows that I am using around 60% of my available memory, but there are no processes taking up anywhere near that much. I also have a desktop I built and its memory usage is nominal when idle so I know this isn't a "standard feature" or anything.
EDIT (5/4/13) - Finally figured it out, it was the ExpressCache program, used a couple tutorials to isolate where the memory leak was and from there I found it was in the running files of ExpressCache, I just went to Uninstall Programs, hit "Repair" on the program and now everything is all nice and happy, no more memory leak.
