My OCZ Agility 3 SSD started to fail and temporarily I have replaced it with a Crucial MX100 SSD, whilst the RMA is being dealt with.
I had multiple copies of Windows 8 on the old SSD managed by Bootit Bare Metal and I copied these to the replacement SSD. Now when I start Windows 8 with new SSD the mouse pointer keeps jumping and a little blue circle appears by it.
If I go to the Task Manager and stop the Microsoft Windows Search Indexer the mouse stays still and behaves normally.
I was looking around to see where I could change my Mouse Sensitivity and I found a post on some website. It said to search "Change how your mouse works" in Settings. So I did, and it brought me to this screen: So then I saw you could change it to black and stuff. So when I saw that you couldn't change mouse sensitivity I switched it back to white and X'd the window. But my mouse is like that really low-resolution mouse pointer like in Windows XP.
I have had to do a system restore on my desktop 2 times because the Microsoft update rendered my windows 8 desktop useless unless in safe mode, THEN it showed my mouse pointer. the unifying software shows the little orange unifying logo every time i move my mouse, but no pointer. so i just disabled Microsoft updates.
On the laptop, it's my friends and his mousepad/trackpad died so i gave him my old mx anywhere k360 keyboard and tried to pair it with the software, SAME issue. I am not going to system restore his laptop but i believe the mouse that's on my desktop is the 810 gaming mouse? I had to do a system restore twice and now it's happening on my friends laptop.
I disabled windows updates and restarted my computer because i installed a program. when it booted, again, no mouse pointer again, so it's not the windows update. so i had to do a system restore again....
I'm using a Windows 8 64-bit ASUS VivoBook S200E as home media centre. The player is MPC-HC and the Bluetooth remote uses mouse movements and keypresses to browse the playlist and control playback. It's working very nicely, except for one problem - the mouse pointer is never visible! The only way to activate it is by making gestures with the touchpad (or with a mouse). That means getting up which isn't what remotes are all about . The computer has a touch screen, but that isn't used and doesn't affect the mouse pointer anyway.
I've been told that this behaviour is a Windows 8 "feature" for touch screen devices - the device being in touch mode by default and not displaying the mouse pointer until pointer movement is detected. I've tried all settings I could think of but nothing so far has changed this behaviour. Just to be clear, we're not talking about "hide mouse while typing" kind of behaviour. In this case, when the machine boots up there is no cursor, and it remains invisible for ever, unless you move a touchpad or mouse.
Is there some setting or registry value I could modify to change this behaviour?
Alternatively, is there some script I could use to just jiggle the mouse at startup? I've used Windows Scripting Host for things like this before, but the SendKeys method seems not to support mouse control.
I just installed windows 8 from windows 7. Everything seems fine so far except my mouse pointer is invisible. I can still click links and tabs but I just cannot see the mouse pointer. How to get it to show up?
I installed Windows 8 in another partition just to learn it and do the move later. I got no big issues but...The next day I noticed I have no mouse pointer in the "metro" interface. If I am in the desktop the pointer shows OK.
I looked carefully at boot/turn off stages and at the beginning the mouse pointer is there but suddenly disappears. The same is when power off. Suddenly appears just before the final stages of the turn off procedure.
I can see the visual signals (mouse over) and click in apps but no pointer at all.
I just installed Windows 8.1 and so far so good except for one minor but extremely annoying bug.
Any file explorer window I open is not properly aligning with the mouse pointer. So if I want to click on lets say the C drive, I can't hover the mouse pointer directly above the C drive, I have to hover off to the right somewhere near until I see the highlight occur and than click. Everything seems to be off to the right.
I've started getting the message Microsoft Mouse & Keyboard Center has Stopped Working (see error report below) when Windows 8 starts. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the latest version of the Mouse & Keyboard Center but still have the same problem.
Problem signature: Problem Event Name:APPCRASH Application Name:itype.exe Application Version:2.0.162.0 Application Timestamp:50934cc8 Fault Module Name:KERNELBASE.dll
Recently, when right clicking on the explorer icon in my task bar I noticed that all of my pinned folders and recent places had disappeared. I looked in my recent places folder and found that that was empty.
I also realized that other programs had lost their extra jump list options, for example Skype, which when right clicked should give the option to quit Skype, but instead only had the basic 'close window' and 'unpin' options. The Skype jump list reappears once I restart Skype, however the explorer jump list is still missing when I restart my PC or explorer.exe
I have tried deleting the files in C:Users\%USER%AppDataRoamingMicrosoftWindowsRecentAutomaticDestinations. Then when I restart explorer.exe and pin things to my explorer task bar icon, everything is fine...
Until a little while later (for reasons I cannot explain) the jump lists disappear, even though their files in AutomaticDestinations still exist!
I have an issue at a client that has thousands of invoices stored in folders, in PDF format. The often need to look up invoices based on invoice numbers, or other details (such as vehicle registration number) etc.
I have added these folders as a location to be indexed, installed the latest Adobe Reader, and made sure the ifilter value in the registry is the correct one, and confirmed this is available under file types to index. PDFs are set to have content indexed.
PDFs are created by printing to the Bullzip printer driver.
This results in a PDF with textual content, with a few blocks of text (like an invoice) holding customer details, job details, and contact details.
Now, the problem arises when they search, in that when the search for an alphanumeric string, such as a vehicle registration number, results seem to contain strings found as if different boxes of text are being joined. E.g. part of a registration number, and part of a number from another area in the file, being combined, and then matching the search criteria.
Could this be caused by something wrong in the way search is setup? Or in the way the files are created?
This all worked perfectly when they were running it all on Windows XP
After updating to 8.1, windows search is slow, even though I disabled Bing and I don't have extra locations in the index, and it doesn't find files even though they are in subfolders of My Documents. This problem is very outstanding with Word files.
I tried deleting the Data folder, and rebuilding the index, but to no avail. I need a way to search for text within files, so the "Everything" app does not seem to be the solution. I am trying out AgentRansack right now, and it does work, but it is slow and uses up almost all the CPU when it is searching.
I know of two ways to search. Neither is working for me. Indexing service is active.
1) Using Modern UI (see screenshot)
Good : finds things including file contents
Bad : Searches cannot be saved. No advanced options like (type of data: file, outlook etc..), size, date...File types associated with Internet Explorer are opened in Modern UI IE not in Desktop IE. Every time a file is opened, the search results vanish.
2) Using Explorer (see screenshot)
Good : It has everything the Modern UI search lacks (advanced options, save searches etc.)
Bad : Doesn't find things (file content wise). For example the file in the screenshot is on my desktop. It takes minutes and then finds nothing.
My daughter managed to somehow get a blue screen of death every time she starts windows with "BAD_POOL_CALLER" as the error message which then makes the system restart. No action can be taken in windows because it restarts literally 10 seconds after you login. own?
I have an ASUS LED monitor and an MSI motherboard. When the computer goes into hibernate the blue LED indicator on the face of the monitor blinks. When it starts blinking there is a slight buzzing noise that is emitted. Since my computer is in my bedroom I was hoping to be able to change this so at least it doesn't make a noise when I am trying to sleep.
Before installing Windows 8.1 anything that I put into my Skydrive folder (I had the desktop app) were automatically synced to Skydrive.com as well as my Android phone app, and anything I uploaded from my phone app were synced to Skydrive.com and were automatically downloaded to my Skydrive folder. Now my phone app and Skydrive.com still work fine, but the Skydrive folder does not. That is, nothing gets downloaded to my Skydrive folder and nothing gets uploaded to Skydrive.com from it.
I've tried different settings for it, I've tried offline only, online only, I've toggled settings in the Settings app, and nothing.
Something else that happens is that now there are duplicates of all of the files in the My Documents folder. Say that my PC is named Smith-PC. Now, for example, there is a file called Random Document.docx and Random Document-Smith-PC.docx. And this is for every single file in the My Documents folder. Furthermore, only the version with the Smith-PC in the name works. When I open the normally named file, I get an error:
"An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for solution of this problem. Error 0x80070490: Element not found."
This is really annoying and now I have duplicates of all of my documents, half of which won't open and the other half which are named wrong with Smith-PC at the end of all of them.
I am being driven mad by the clicking sound every time I do a keystroke on my wireless keyboard, how do I turn it off? Have disabled windows sounds so none play. I have gone into typing in PC settings and the turn sounds off is not there.
I don't really know whether this is related to the graphics cards or drivers or monitor or some driver/software issue but here it is: Windows Photo Viewer (my favorite image viewer) makes photos yellow, and also the empty space behind the photo. It only happens in this program, Photos app displays it just fine, so does photoshop. It's definitely a software issue, because everything else is displayed just fine, and it it was monitors fault, it wouldn't be visible in a screenshot:
And example of two firefox windows open:
Whenever I move the Photo Viewer windows across screens, it looks like its (de)applying the sepia filter. Again, it only seems to happen in this particular program, I haven't found any other occurrence. I have latest AMD drivers (and the issue has been since I got the new monitor - on the new monitor of course), I just removed both monitors drivers and let windows install then on its own, I don't know much about calibration, ICC profiles and such. What can I do?
I have my taskbar on my notebook set to auto-hide. Since the latest update it seems to get stuck and will not re-appear when I hover the pointer over it..
I have had this issue to some extent from Windows 7 onwards, but it has got worse with successive Windows versions, and it's now quite insane since I 'upgraded' from Windows 8 to 8.1 (x64).
The problem is that when I drag and drop from Desktop or Explorer or my regular file manager (FreeCommander), an absolutely huge icon appears at the tip of the mouse pointer, representing the file being dragged (or, in an application, representing the block of text being dragged). Not only is this extremely distracting, but it actually makes it difficult and indeed sometimes impossible to see the exact point where I mean to be dropping the item.
I so much want to turn off that behaviour. Sure, I want a small, discreet little rectangle or tiny icon to show at the mouse pointer, so that I know that I am indeed dragging something, as I used to get a long time ago, but not this great big obstructive thing that appears for each drag and drop nowadays. It may look clever or 'cool', but it is dysfunctional and obstructive.
After windows 8.1 update (via windows store free upgrade) the system will go through its initializing sequence then go to a black screen w/ pointer.
I have this issue both in windows and safe mode. I have attempted to follow these steps and while I can try this, non offer the ability to install anew driver. Here it stays.
I have read this is normally caused by a graphics driver issue. In several cases the thread was closed, as the user was able to resolve the issue... but left no conclusion.

It would appear (now), during step 8 here, that the ASUS driver (VGA_Intel_Win81_64_VER101810330802) should be updated for 8.1. This seems to have been the missed step. This doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere. This is an observation is from self deduction.
I just got a new laptop and tried to put the Microsoft programs in. It all went well until trying to organize the Start. My Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) are all on the desktop and I've tried to pin them to Start, but I don't see the usual "pin to start" button when I right-click. I've also tried to create shortcuts and searched through the apps to pin, but none of them worked. Is there a way I can pin them?
