Windows 8 makes a three tone sound and netflix pauses.
I suspect it also crashes my games when it says it.
I have tried replacing my RAM, but it still does it.
I have never had BSOD and windows does not stall or crash in any way.
I reinstalled from windows 7 to windows 8 about a week ago. Windows 7 worked fine.
my girlfriend recently (yesterday) bought a brand new computer with Windows 8.1. Long story short; while she's browsing, doing every-day stuff, at no definite interval, the computer plays an odd 3 tone sound that goes from a high tone to a lower, and the third one even lower than that. It occurs randomly, as often as several times per minute, to one time per five-ten minutes. From the "feel" of the sound I'd say it's a notification from an app running in the background, but I can't locate it. It also lags the mouse input for a really short time when played (some milliseconds).
I myself have a Surface RT with 8.1, but I've never heard that specific sound before.
I setup a subwoofer to run from the pc from the orange hole to the sub via a 3.5mm to rca cable. I can't get it to play sound from any other program other than pandora, battlefield and youtube. VLC, netflix, mediamonkey all ignore the sub and don't use it. My speakers are connected to the computer through the green hole to the t amp (no sub out on the amp). I tried downloading my audio drivers but I get an error saying "can't find hd audio device". My motherboard is a gigabyte gaz77xd3h running on the latest f18i bios. When i was on 7 the drivers worked fine, but on 8.1 they don't install. I've tried the original version that came with the mobo and the most recent one and both don't work.

I have looked at the Laptop's "Sounds" and found that the 2 items referring to Email Notifications are both set to use the Default sound. My volume is turned fully up. Sounds from Iplayer are ok.
I have Goggled for a solution but the methods suggested cannot work because the options are not viable.
I have the version of Windows 8.1 that does not include Remote Desktop. I want to be able to control my HTPC which is running Windows 8.1 from my other Windows 8.1 PCs. In particular, I want to be able to use one of these other PCs to launch and control the Netflix and Hulu apps.
I tried TeamViewer, but it seems to change the screen resolution when I login with it to something that is not supported by the Netflix or Hulu apps. Something like Xbox Smartglass, except instead of controlling an Xbox, I want to control another Windows 8.1 PC.
When using my computer and streaming netflix, i generally use my HD tv as my video card has audio built in over HDMI and i use it to stream movies to my HD tv ,with netflix app for windows 8. but on some movies the volume is totally Low and i have to crank my tv to here the voice leaving me with very loud music when it comes on. is there a solution to fixing this? i make my TV volume default when i watch netflix. How to make it louder. I have seen this thing called loudness equalization under enhancements on the HDMI audio would that do it or would it make more noise then do any good?.

I have just refreshed my pc because I was having numerous problems with it and it turned out to be a bad stick of RAM. However, now I am having software issues. Whenever I try to make a call on the desktop version of skype, the program crashes. Whenever I try to open HP support assistant, the program crashes. When i am using the metro app version of skype I get a weird artifacting type problem on any of the buttons. I have this same problem in internet explorer and on Netflix. Netflix will not play on Chrome. It will play on IE, but with the button artifacting problems. My computer will not pair via bluetooth with my phone.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI don't really know whether this is related to the graphics cards or drivers or monitor or some driver/software issue but here it is: Windows Photo Viewer (my favorite image viewer) makes photos yellow, and also the empty space behind the photo. It only happens in this program, Photos app displays it just fine, so does photoshop. It's definitely a software issue, because everything else is displayed just fine, and it it was monitors fault, it wouldn't be visible in a screenshot:

Whenever I move the Photo Viewer windows across screens, it looks like its (de)applying the sepia filter. Again, it only seems to happen in this particular program, I haven't found any other occurrence. I have latest AMD drivers (and the issue has been since I got the new monitor - on the new monitor of course), I just removed both monitors drivers and let windows install then on its own, I don't know much about calibration, ICC profiles and such. What can I do?

My OCZ Agility 3 SSD started to fail and temporarily I have replaced it with a Crucial MX100 SSD, whilst the RMA is being dealt with.
I had multiple copies of Windows 8 on the old SSD managed by Bootit Bare Metal and I copied these to the replacement SSD. Now when I start Windows 8 with new SSD the mouse pointer keeps jumping and a little blue circle appears by it.
If I go to the Task Manager and stop the Microsoft Windows Search Indexer the mouse stays still and behaves normally.
My daughter managed to somehow get a blue screen of death every time she starts windows with "BAD_POOL_CALLER" as the error message which then makes the system restart. No action can be taken in windows because it restarts literally 10 seconds after you login. own?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an ASUS LED monitor and an MSI motherboard. When the computer goes into hibernate the blue LED indicator on the face of the monitor blinks. When it starts blinking there is a slight buzzing noise that is emitted. Since my computer is in my bedroom I was hoping to be able to change this so at least it doesn't make a noise when I am trying to sleep.
View 1 Replies View RelatedBefore installing Windows 8.1 anything that I put into my Skydrive folder (I had the desktop app) were automatically synced to Skydrive.com as well as my Android phone app, and anything I uploaded from my phone app were synced to Skydrive.com and were automatically downloaded to my Skydrive folder. Now my phone app and Skydrive.com still work fine, but the Skydrive folder does not. That is, nothing gets downloaded to my Skydrive folder and nothing gets uploaded to Skydrive.com from it.
I've tried different settings for it, I've tried offline only, online only, I've toggled settings in the Settings app, and nothing.
Something else that happens is that now there are duplicates of all of the files in the My Documents folder. Say that my PC is named Smith-PC. Now, for example, there is a file called Random Document.docx and Random Document-Smith-PC.docx. And this is for every single file in the My Documents folder. Furthermore, only the version with the Smith-PC in the name works. When I open the normally named file, I get an error:
"An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for solution of this problem. Error 0x80070490: Element not found."
This is really annoying and now I have duplicates of all of my documents, half of which won't open and the other half which are named wrong with Smith-PC at the end of all of them.
I have the laptop as stated above, i have had it a week and the user before me had decided to put on 7 instead of 8. i completely wiped and restored to windows 8.1, installed all sammy drivers and ensured it is all up to date.
the laptop had huge instability issues, the hdd was on its way out as mbr was damaged and the heads were ticking badly. then i found the ram was not secured in the sockets properly too. so i fixed it all!
Anyways back to the problem. i have the realtek hd audio drivers installed from sammy, reinstalled the ones from realtek themselves and still nothing.
Main issue, mic and speakers built in work and are fully detected. but the microphone port and headphone port are not detected, no matter what i plug into them.
Approximately every 10min my Windows 8 do a sound. The sound is little bit like when you connect something to usb port.
Everything works well and theoretically it isn't big deal. Practically is does hell from watching of anything. When I watch movie, serial or just some video on youtube this sound turns player's sound off. Sometimes its silenced only on short time but mostly it's permanent. Only one solution in this situation is to reset movie player or reload web page.
In every case when I hear this sound, I can find Surrogate process in task manager. I think it can has connectivity.
A couple of weeks ago I upgraded my computer from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1. Just recently I haven't been receiving audio. I have tried to uninstall the driver and reinstall it. I have performed a clean boot. I have even tried system restore. Nothing wants to work. I have tried updates for drivers through Dell Support, but Dell doesn't detect Windows 8.1.

I recently put this computer together as a cheap media machine. Everything worked. It connected via onboard NIC to the internet, it had sound. No problems.
Then I upgraded by adding another stick of RAM. Same module 4gb. and all hell breaks loose.
I lost lost and internet. Media sound service couldn't start. Said something along the lines that found new hardward. And it wasn't communicating with my NIC card anymore.. I tried updated the drivers. No joy.
I contacted Biostar and asked for an issue. They recommend me to update drives and then reset bios setting to factory defaults. I tried that. No joy.
I then RMA's the vendor and got another mobo. Installed it and it had the same issue. No sound no internet.
Last nite I decided maybe I should just reinstall windows, but now my computer freezes on the bios screen.
I recently got a new pair of headphones
And the sound isn't perfect
So I wanted to know if there is a equalizer to change windows sounds is it happens
The in built one isn't great

What I mean by this is when you go to Volume Mixer > (click the audio device) > Enhancements tab, you see things like Bass Boost and Pitch Shift. If a computer doesn't have these options, can I get them to work in order to change the pitch, for example? If it can't be done, what third party application can I use to change the pitch of the audio coming out of the speaker so everything sounds squeaky? Is there a program or setting that does that? Also, the computer had Beats Audio with Beats Audio Control Panel.

I have an alienware m14x laptop, which I purchased around 2 years ago. One part of the problem is what speakers I actually have built into the laptop and cannot look for the proper drivers to potentially fix this issue. The other part of the problem lies with windows 8 itself.
Whenever sound comes out of my speakers, (there only being a total of 2 speakers) it only comes out of one of the two speakers at a time. THIS IS CAUSING THE SOUND QUALITY TO BE COMPLETELY TERRIBLE. How to make ALL audio come out of both speakers at the same time.
