I suspect it also crashes my games when it says it.
I have tried replacing my RAM, but it still does it.
I have never had BSOD and windows does not stall or crash in any way.
I reinstalled from windows 7 to windows 8 about a week ago. Windows 7 worked fine.
After entering a valid retail key into the installer located here I get the following error:
I have tried running the installer on another computer with the same results. I have also tried the netsh command and deleting the Panther folder. The problem arised after doing the trick to download 8.1 with a 8 product key and cancelling the 8.1 installer. It was working yesterday and this morning.
Just got the Lenovo ideatab lynx in the mail today. Used it for like 2 hours.
Only things I did: install chrome, uninstalled nortan (borderline spyware antivirus in my opinion).
It restarted without telling my anything to configure updates (said do not shut off, preparing to configure blah blah blah) Then I plugged in my galaxy s3 to use usb, its started installing the drivers then shut down again.
Now it is constantly shutting down as soon as it gets up. No peripherals are plugged in, it is connected to power.
I don't have a keyboard to run usb for safe mode. And I'm pretty good with computers.
Been experiencing random system freezes from time to time. One suggestion was the internal timer and was "fixed" with a simple copy paste line in the Command Prompt in Admin level. Another was a graphics card update, did that. Another talked about the browser (I use Firefox pretty much exclusively) but what was talked about didn't really pertain to me so didn't bother with that. I'm at work right now so can't post the link to the site but I did have another freeze this AM after all the fixes I tried out.
I have 3 external drives, I run an NVIDIA graphics card. It's a pretty good system with an i7 processor and 32 gigs of DDR3 RAM. Computer, when forced reset button is pushed, boots up just fine. No feedback from the system itself about drives or anything else.
I have a Acer 5750g Laptop with i5 core processor and 8gb of Ram
It came with Windows 7 installed and when Windows 8 came out i installed this. I have freezes random without warning. This can be once or even twice a day or even happens after 3 days at a time. So sometimes it goes a long time without a freeze.use
All of my drivers are up to date and i am sure its not a hardware fault. I use Tune Up Utilities, CC Cleaner and Mcafee and all system should be fine and it is not these programs causing a freeze as i got one before installing these!!!
When i get a freeze all i can do is to turn off and reboot!!
If i had been doing some work then this gets lost!
I have tried installing Win 8 on a fresh clean install and tried also upgrade from Win 7 but no matter have freezes on both installs.
I upgraded from Win 7 Home Premium to Win 8 Pro 2 days ago. Everything was fine, till it started freezing for no apparent reason. Yesterday it went for a couple of hours without freezing, but today the maximum time without having to restart it has been around 10 minutes. I'm writing this for the third time, because it froze in like 2 mins after restarting it.
It's getting really annoying, since I don't know what causes it. People said it's Chrome's fault, but my laptop froze a few times without Chrome being on. By freezing I mean the Cursor freezes and then disappears and my screen stays the same no matter what I do. Not even the Caps Lock light functions when I press Caps Lock, everything is dead.
I deleted old software that I wasn't using anyway, I updated my Nvidia Geforce 9400M G driver, I uninstalled my antivirus... I tried all the stuff people suggested (the ones that were having similar issues with those Preview versions) and nothing worked.
I knew it would have some issues being so new, but not like this. I literally can't use my laptop cause no matter what I'm doing it's bound to freeze and I have to press Power Button to force shut down and then start everything over again.
That's a photo of my frozen screen when I was trying to write this post for the second time. As I was editing this, my laptop froze again, after 10 minutes of being on. It only had Skype and Task Manager running.
My computer freezes when I right click on Defrag from the search menu. When trying to open it, nothing happens. I am able to get to defrag from the control panel.

For the last 2 weeks my Windows 8 machine freezes for a few seconds. It happened once while typing this out. Note: It is not a hardware related issue as I have installed Windows 8 Build 9364.
Sound continues to play fine during the freeze

I have had this problem with my hp Envy 6 ever since I got it. I installed windows 8 on it however when ever i would right click anywhere in my computer (the view/refresh menu would come however the new/view/sort one would not come) it no matter if it be with the trackpad or a mouse the blue circle would start spinning forever and i would be forced to close the folder i currently have:
Core i-5 1.7 Ghz
4.00 Gb RAM
64 bit Windows 8
(I am not all that sure whether or not i have windows 8 or 8.1 so i can't really say)
I have provided a recording that i have provided in the attachement below:

I have an Acer V5-122P-0681 that I got in July. Worked beautifully for a few months. But now it gives me script errors(especially if I am on Google) and will freeze, then flash my desktop background. I have 416GB free of 453 Gb. All updates are current...I have Avast installed and it has not found any virus.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy PC freezes when I'm just browing the web. It doesn't happen when I'm decoding a video, or when I'm playing a game, or running an emulator. It always happens when I'm browsing, or during idle. All of a sudden there's a slowdown, and the right mouse click menu takes a while to appear. When the right click menu appears it's kind of transparant/greyish and then it fully appears but none of the options work. For example I right click on the desktop and click task manager, but it never appears. I can minimize/maximize windows but cannot close or open new ones. Then it's completely frozen, I can't do anything other than move the mouse around.
Yet Metro UI still works, somewhat until it slows down and completely freezes again. I cannot restart or shut down PC, I have to do it manually by holding down power button or pressing the reset button.
I get no error messages... I used to have malware antibytes installed but removed it. I have all the drivers up to date (motherboard, sound, graphics card, intel, and windows updates of course).
Deleted graphics drivers and installed latest ones and the problem still persists.
These are my specs:
Intel i7 4790k

8GB RAM 1600 Mhz
1 TB HDD
Windows 8.1
EVGA Nova G2 750 Watt PSU
MSI Z97 gaming 5 motherboard
Corair Hydro h100i
I have dual monitors set up, one at 1920x1080 and another one at 1600 x900 on DVI from graphics card. It's happening very frequently now, after about 15 minutes, no matter what I do.
I really like windows 8, but im most likely going back to windows 7 because of all the problems im haveing with windows 8, being lag and random freezeing.
So i was on youtube, trying to watch a video and it froze, and my laptop charger being a replacement, it slips out a lot, when it came out the video started working fine again, after that, i have noticed my computer stops lagging when my laptop isnt plugged in. as soon as i plug my laptop in, 5-10 seconds later i freeze, not matter what im on, youtube or just my desktop, it happens.
Dell inspiron 1521 3gb ram 120GB hd if you need any more additional info let me know..
I recently installed Windows 8.1 and am now experiencing constant system freezes. I initially thought it was related to playing Battlefield 3 but about 15 minutes ago it froze while I attempting to do some pretty light analyses in R Studio.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI was writing an email and randomly my fairly new and perfectly working laptop kept freezing and showing Disk 100% in Task Manager so I restarted. After that my laptop is stuck on "automatic repair mode" whenever I power on and none of the options work. I have the options to "Continue to win 8" "use a device" "troubleshoot" or "turn off my pc" NONE of these options are working! If I click anything it just freezes.
How can I recover some important files I had on my desktop? I didn't have any partitions! I'm not able to boot with Ubuntu, win 7, or norton ghost DVDs. I even set the DVD drive to boot first in BIOS.
It's a toshiba satellite s855d-s5148

Basically about 1 month ago a good friend of mine purchased a brand new acer desktop computer, I haven't got the exact model to hand as he lives 200 kilometers from me and he's not tech savvy at all, however, from what I remember of it, it's windows 8 x64, 4gb ram and i3 processor, so not bad at all.
When he got it I set it up for him as in just put in the regional setting etc.. and ran through the initial set up and all went well. I installed all his programs and all was good.
So about a month on he rang me and said his computer is just freezing randomly always when it's left idle for 10 minutes or so and this happens all day every day.
..... Ran hitman pro which said all was clean.
.....Ran chkdsk /f which was fine
.....Went into power options and set both screen and sleep to never
....Ran sfc /scannow which said it found some corrupt file but could not fix all (ran this from command prompt from inside windows as admin)
...Tried a system restore to the 14th of this month but said it couldn't do it as it may be corrupt but it let do a restore to a later date but still the same issue.
This is only a new pc, so if I can't sort the problem rather than doing a fresh install and checking all the hardware internally I'm wondering if he should bring it back to the shop as it's only a month old, or would I be better of doing the fresh install ?
windows 8 Games app the green app with a Xbox controller freezing computer. It just happened to me was very strange i was renewing my Xbox live threw it as you can do that. and the Games app freeze my screen not all the way the mouse moved very slow, and it would freeze from time to time. and then it went from the Games app to the modern interface and then back into Games app,and then it finally came out of it. It has been OK since could it be the application hung up?

View 6 Replies View RelatedAfter two refresh and one clean install of Windows 8 within a two-week period, my computer freezes while I'm running CCleaner. It always stops at the same file:
CUserAppDataLocalTemp\_ME149482PyWinTypes26.dll
First few minutes, I can still use my computer, but after that, I cannot print, cannot open Task Manager, cannot shut down the computer. After numerous attempts, I'm able to close CCleaner, but my computer remains frozen.
I have a laptop with Two Hard Drive( one SSD of 24 gb and one big). Windows 8 is set up on the SSD hard drive
Yesterday, I got a freeze and I had to restart the computer by unplug it. After that, I can't boot it any more. I had a message which said that it missed boot.ini (something like that).
I tried to repair it but the HD is locked. I tried to reinstall it, but I can't find the SSD hard drive during the installation process. I use GParted Live but it didn't found the SSD drive too.
After upgrading from Win7 (x64) to Windows 8.1 Professional N (x64) my system started to freeze randomly. It seems to be a driver related issue, since the freezes do not occur, when I disable the video card in the device manager. I recently upgraded to the new beta driver (v14.1) which made it even worse.
I contacted the ASUS-support already. They said the card is broken - which does sound strange to me, since it worked fine using WIN7.
Hardware specs are:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4570
MB: ASRock Fatal1ty H87 Performance
Video: Asus HD7790-DC2OC-2GD5
Memory: 2x 4GB DDR3-1600 Kingston ValueRAM
PSU: Enermax Liberty - 500W (ELT500AWT)
It happens at random times and the only way to restart is to hold the power button down and force a hard reset.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've recently assembled my pc and everything seemed to be working fine. But one day my pc was frozen on the window menu. I hard to forceably turn off my computer and restart it. When i turned it back down my pc would turn on and off repeatedly until it finally turned on for good. When my computer freezes, my keyboard, mouse and headset Immediately turns off, basically anything connected to the mobo. here are my specs
OS: window 8.1
MOBO: Asus P9x79 WS
CPU: intel i7 4930k 3.4ghz
GPU: 2x 780 ti's
Ram: Corsair Dominator 16gb 2400mhz (4x4gb)
PSU: Corsair AX1200i
Hardrive: 2tb Seagate SSHD
I've enabled XMP to run the ram at recommended settings, and disabled it, both options didn't solve the problem. It happens randomly, it could be on running fine for 8-10hours but out of no where the computer freezes acts wild (shuts itself off and on by itself).
I had been running windows 8 for a while, and within the last month I installed a new video card (Nvidia EVGA GTX560ti), and a new SSD (OCZ vertex 4 256GB). While still running Windows 8, I had been playing games, doing a lot of photoshop work....and other various CPU intensive things. I was editing photos one day in photoshop CS5 , and I noticed that the program became somewhat slow all of the sudden (basic tasks that used to be very quick and painless). The program eventually became unresponsive and had to reboot the computer. Upon restart I got all sorts of "boot drive errors", and unreadable boot disk errors.
However, these errors only seem to happen randomly. I checked my CPU core temps, and while doing the regular work I do on the computer, all 4 cores averaged about 92 degrees Celsius! I ran a virus scan, for something unrelated, and I checked the temps and they were spiking 98 to 100 Celsius!!!! While im just using the computer regularly they settle around 65-70. But if I do ANYTHING slightly intensive, I could probably cook dinner on my heatsink. I guess my main question is WHY am I getting boot errors, and why do they seem to happen randomly. I suppose the motherboard could be fried, im really not sure. This happened in the past, and reinstalled windows 8. After a couple days, same story. I'm almost positive this is a hardware thing. My first priority is of course to lower the CPU temps however I can.
whenever I right click on the desktop to sort my icons windows 8 freezes and its explorer starts. I've installed my graphics card driver and it still won't like me get the right click menu is there any way to fix this?
View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery morning, when I turn on my Windows 8 computer, it freezes as soon as the Windows 8 logo starts loading. View 6 Replies View RelatedSo, I am trying to upgrade from windows 7 to 8 and everytime i begin the download it starts to go and makes it past the preparing which i see a lot of people having problems with. then it gets to the installation part and freezes at 11%. i left it to install last night as i went to bed woke up the next morning and it was still at 11% so, i decided to restart it maybe something was wrong, still nothing. Then i said to myself maybe if i start the disc from the startup screen it will work. Nope. When i did that it told me the installation process had already been started and i needed to remove the disc start up my computer normally and continue from there the way i was before.
