In the previous versions of Windows you could see the list of wireless networks you had previously connected to, change the order in which these Preferred Networks connected when more than one of them were available, as well as add or remove the Preferred Networks from this list. You could do so via Control PanelNetwork and InternetManage Wireless Networks.
But in Windows 8, unfortunately this feature is unavailable
It can be done manually in the cmd by these commands
Show Wireless Networks
netsh wlan show profiles
Show stored key for a Wireless Network
netsh wlan show profiles name=[profile name] key=clear
Delete Stored Wireless network
netsh wlan delete profile name=[profile name]
Or Third party software can be used to do so such as
In Windows 7 and Windows 8, I was able to tether a Nokia phone to my Thinkpad X220 through the creation of an ad-hoc wireless network on the phone. The phone cannot create an infrastucture wireless network like iPhones and androids do so this is my only way to tether.
It seems that in the Windows 8.1 Preview upgraded from the windows store, I can no longer see ad-hoc networks in the list of wireless networks to connect to. If RTM of 8.1 restored this feature? If not, is it possible to restore the feature somehow?
In prior versions of Windows before Windows 8, it was very easy to refresh your network list. This would allow you to see ALL of wireless networks in your area that your WiFi card could detect.
My Windows 8 only allows me to see the wireless networks that it wants me to see.
How do I see all Windows 8 networks within range? I have searched but I cannot find anything.
My Lenovo y580 is connected to my wireless network but no other wireless ever show up in the Networks Charm. My wireless network that I am connected is not displayed either. This does not allow me to pick up any new networks when I leave my home. I have tried a lot of basic things but nothing seems to work.
I am using the N600 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit ADSL2+ Modem Router DGND3700v2 This has 2 channels 2.5ghz and 5ghz .
On my main desktop windows 8 has sucessfully found and connected wirelessly to the 2.5ghz connection. However, when I want to do video streaming the 5ghz connection would be better.
On my other devices I can search / scan for all available connections and I can see both the 2.5 and the 5 connections. For example, my laptop running windows 7 can see both connection and I can choose which one i want to connect too.
However, Windows 8 seems to have locked into the 2.5ghz connection and cannot see the 5ghz connection . Is there a way to force Windows 8 to scan again so it can see the 5ghz connection ?
First of all i was unable to configure my advanced power options, i.e- create new power plan, choose what power button does or closing lid does? I restored the settings & restarted but couldn't solve it. This is what i get while trying to fix this:-
Somehow, then i thought of creating another admin account and config the settings there, to see if it works out. But, through Control Panel>User accounts i couldn't manage existing account and neither i am able to create new account.
Another thing i noticed is when i go to PC settings through windows 8 new feature - charm menu, i couldn't find the Users menu. Now, these things are not normal at all.
I cannot change the Windows update settings even though I am the administrator. It is grayed out in the snapshot above. I am the only user. I created a local account as well. I need to change the update settings to download updates automatically but I am stuck on "check for updates but let me choose..".
I need to change the setting in order to get internet access at my work using my home computer. The IT person at work recommended that I install Windows 8.1 to see if it would correct the problem, but the new installation did not work. This second screenshot shows that I am an administrator,I think.

I am wondering if there is any good software out there for audio graphic equalization. Or just equalizer you know for changing how audio sounds. I had a pair of headphones with software that made some things sound INCREDIBLE but I am getting rid of them for issues.
I am wondering if there is any decent software to manage equalization of audio other than the built in ones for Windows Media Player?
Part of my job is to prepare new laptops for end users that comes from OEMs. Since the included windows installation on most laptops is loaded with "bloatwares" we used to deploy a fresh Win7 Image in WDS and activate using OEM slic which made them completely legal. That was in the Windows 7 days.
Now I'm trying to do about the same thing with Windows 8 however since there is no SLIC it gets a little bit trickier.
Here is what we are doing right now:
-pull the hard drive from the laptop
-make a backup of 'Store' folder
-Reinstall hard drive, deploy Image or Clone from same model.
-pull the hard drive again
-overwrite content of Store folder with the old one
-Change folder permissions
-put the hard disk back in the laptop, let it boot.
-Windows complain about an activation error, reboot or CMD>slmgr -dli.
-activated again.
The hardest part in fact is to take note of which Store folder goes with which laptop.
I know how to manage the behavior of icons and notifications in Windows 8, but how do I delete programs from the list of icons and notifications (that appear on the taskbar)?
This new sync tab feature in IE11 is handy. But it's also a bit annoying. I have about 7 or 8 PCs I use frequently and I re-install the OS all the time. So I end up with orphan machines that appear in IE 11 sync tabs and I can't seem to find a way to remove them. I also noticed that these tabs mysteriously disappeared on some of my machines.
When I disable Flash through "Manage Add-ons" I find that I can still play some YouTube videos (I assume using html5) but when the video ends my screen goes blank for a second and then the computer goes to the login screen. When I log back in all the applications that were open are no longer open. Is there any way to disable Flash in IE10 and not have this behavior?
My system got a virus/browser hijacker called qone8.com. McAfee did not detect it at all, removing it was a pain. One artifact that remains i the manage add-ons window pops up every time ie starts. I cannot find anything to fix this behavior. I have looked in the registry and found nothing. I would also like to find out how to completely remove unwanted entries in the manage add-ons windows. there should be a way to do this. I keep hearing of procedures to do this and all the options mentioned are always greyed out or never work. Hey Microsoft STOP GREYING OUT NEEDED FUNCTIONS!!! Image uploaded show how ie starts every time.
Recently, my Windows 8 has been working fine, but when I woke up this morning, I was not able to access the Internet. It has been int he same spot for the last few days and Internet was perfect, but this morning, it would not connect to any. Basically, it won't even list any. I know I'm not too far away and I'm sure it's still working because:
1) My father and sister are using it. 2) I've gone to two different houses with different internet, nothing changed.
I've been trying to fix it since 7 this morning and I feel like I'm going to just burst into tears of frustration. My audio is also not working, but I care more of getting the Internet working. And my computer will not allow me to turn on Windows Security Center.
Using Windows 8, machine is 3 months old. HP Ultrabook. Wifi had been working fine until just now. There are over a dozen WiFi networks available, but my laptop says 'No networks found'. Other laptops have no problem connecting.
Recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 8.1 and I cannot see any 5Ghz wireless networks, even though they are present (I am able to successfully see and connect using other devices including a Windows 7 laptop). I can see 2.4 Ghz networks and connect no problem. I have upgraded the wifi driver to the latest Windows 8.1 version for the Intel Wireless-N 7260 card, v16.6.0.8 but no luck.
Windows 8.1, Broadcom 802.11n network card&driver,
My computer stopped recognizing the wireless networks at my university - oddly enough, some other networks elsewhere can be found (although I cannot test if I can actually connect to them, since they are passworded/not mine).
I followed the 3 steps of Network Posting Tips
Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector showed nothing: Connection - Broadcom 802.11n network card - NA, everything under Wireless and Addresses also NA. No networks.
The Manage Addon window in IE10 is not displaying correctly and there seems to be no way to resize the two panes that are not showing correctly. Do you think this would be a registry problem or do you think a reinstall of IE10 would override whatever setting is causing the window to display improperly. Would an uninstall and reinstall of IE10 be necessary or the best course?
I have an Asus computer running windows 8. When I open the network connections I cant see the list of available networks. I see my own connection to the internet which is named Network but that is all I see. when I check it on my laptop also running windows 8 I see a full list of available networks. Is there a setting in windows that will allow me to see this or is something blocking the list from being displayed.
I have several computers on my Wireless/Wired Network. Wireless is dual band and Secured with WP2 Password. Basically on several of my PCs I can see connections to my neighbours computers showing as Windows Media Player Icons. When I first noticed this I fully restored my router (Western Digital) creating new SSIDs and Passwords, however I can still see these computers.
I'm not personally bothered that I can see them as I can always click remove device, I'm more interested WHY I can see them and Can they see my computers as I do have some without Password Protected sharing as I assumed only devices on my network could access these.
My PCs are Running a Mix of Windows 8.1 and 7 and both can see the 2 neighbour computers. I have homegroup set up with a secured password too.
It's quite pointless for me, since I'm connected via cable, and I can't seem to do anything at all with the sidebar anyway. Double clicking on the only available network does nothing.
Any way to disable it? It's mildly annoying when it pops up when I misclick the icon. It also, I think, is what causes the right side of the screen to be rendered black when Desktop Window Manager is turned off. The black portion of the screen is the same size as the sidebar, and since turning off dwm.exe turns off Metro rendering, and the sidebar is the only Metro element I can think of that I can reach from the desktop, it makes sense that it might be the culprit.
This is a problem that has persisted under fresh installs of Windows 7 and Windows 8. My laptop (Samsung Series 9) won't connect to any network that is operating on the 2.4GHz band. It shows up as a normal network, but trying to connect always ends with the error message: "Can't connect to this network."
The WiFi card is an Intel Centrino 6300. Before someone tells me to go connect to a different network,
I just got Windows 8 a week or so ago and I left it on today. I came home and my internet suddenly couldn't find any networks. I googled how to get it back, but when I go to pc settings there is no Wireless tab. I cant turn it on, I've tried reinstalling my wireless card LAN driver, restarting my PC and doing a system restore to the last recommended time, nothing works.
I have network and printer connection problems. I need to ask some basic questions before giving details.
Using new Sagemcom F@st 1704N combo modem/router (replacing an old fried Sagemcom 4300 single function modem) wired to a previously used Linksys/Cisco 610N router which was, and is wired to 3 WAPs in more remote locations.
Are these assumptions correct?
1 The new network SSID is coming from the 1704 combination modem router.
2 The old network SSID is broadcast by the remote WAPs, but not by the old 610N device.
3 Can a network printer (Brother MFC-8810 DW wireless network device) be configured to work with 2 or more wireless networks at the same time.
4 As a workaround is it it possible to configure a Windows 8.1 laptop computer using Bluetooth to connect to the router and printer.
For some reason I can connect fine when I plug in my wireless receiver port into it, But 30 seconds after I plug it in, the bars disappear And a red X appears over it, if you click on it it'll say no networks found.... The only way to fix it is to plug it in and after 30 seconds it happens again...I'm only getting this on my computer, And it's gotten really bad recently, I've tried replacing the reciever, But that fixed it for maybe an hour....
