I ran SFC and it complained that some corrupt files could not be repaired.

I had a problem with BSOD and tried to run sfc /scannow command but found corrupted files and couldn't fix them, I finally resorted to clean installation, today I received a new BSOD with error 0x0c000021a, and tried again sfc /scannow and message appeared FOUND "CORRUPTED FILES, BUT COULDN'T FIX THEM".*
View 6 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is running ok but I have noticed that certain programs have been taking a lot longer than usual to install/update (e.g. iTunes) but they always do. Then the last few days AVG Antivirus has been wanting to auto-update the software (not just the virus definitions) but each time it would freeze during the ''configuring'' step and subsequently cause every other program running to freeze and stop the opening of any other program - although I could still move the cursor so not a complete freeze if that makes sense.
So today I removed AVG with the removal tool and tried to do a fresh install but now I get a failure message immediately telling me ''MSI Engine: failed to initialize the package''.
How to go about fixing this and ran system file check which said corrupt files were found but it was unable to repair some of them. Here is the log:

How to read one of these or even if it effectively evaluates the status of the installer.
I have run sfc /scannow on my system to find if there were any bad files. It comes up and says that it had found bad files and could not repair all of them. Ive run it three or four times in a row and always get the same result.

Ok, So, I started up my laptop this morning and the screen was all wonky, It was light blue and there were swiggly white bits, I waited a bit and then restarted it.
The Auto Repair started up when the computer started back up so I left it alone for a bit
"Automatic Repair couldn't repair your PC"
I was like Ok, I checked the logfiles "Boot critical file c:/ci.dll is corrupt"
It won't let me refresh or restore my computer.
Forgot to say, If I restart it just loops back to the auto repair.
Recently I got problems when running SFC or DISM to repair my system. As far as I know it concerns the shortcuts in the folder Administrative Tools, there I changed under Properties the Run option to Maximised Windows and since then SFC and DISM have shown this error that the services are unable to download the proper source files (they admonish a mismatch I cannot correct).
I am running a Windows 8.1 Update 1 system without the Pro version, so I have no access to its exclusive features. I attach the corresponding log files after a run of DISM and SFC for more infos.
In my laptop, SFC or DISM cannot fix corrupt files so I have to manually replace them but can these corrupt system files cause BSODs? Im asking because I am having BSODs ...
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy windows update, windows defender and lots of other programs including Vistart start menu refuse to work. I run the Windowsupdatediagnostic download and it tells me the SFC Output is corrupted or missing. Recently the BITS wasn't working but for some reason found the windows events log was disabled in services. I went to black vipers site and reset all of the services to a standard or safe setting. Yet I cant get anything to work. Ive been running the sfc /scannow in command prompt and it says it found problems but was unable to fix them. It says to check the log files, but when i go to open them they refuse to open and say i don't have administration privileges???
I suddenly got BITS working recently and i swore that would have fixed everything but to no avail. I am afraid to have to to a factory refresh but the problem is I foolishly listened to microsoft suggestion in the store to upgrade this from windows 8 to 8.1 therefore it automatically deletes the windows 8.0 partition on the computer thereby erasing its original operating system with cd key....
I have heard of ones doing a factory reset or refresh and finding since that upgrade they cant get it running without them purchasing it....
I have done a system restore, but the last system restore was a month ago and unfortunately that was when the system was exactly the same as this.
So right now i need to try every possible avenue I can take and want to see if its possible to do a factory refresh without it freaking out because the cd key on the bottom of the computer is for a windows 8.0 and this is the useless upgraded 8.1. This is a Toshiba C55-A 5300 laptop

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently re-installed Windows 8 Pro, 64bit after having some difficulties with drivers. I thought I would start afresh. The installation went smoothly but now I cannot play any type of file with WMP 12 and the Video App in Metro, this may be linked to multiple SFC scans that I have run, all of which report that some repairs have been made and some files were corrupt and could not be fixed.
The Video App crashes with this error message (in event viewer):

I have messed up my computer I need to work on! Basically, I had a freeven pro virus which I have identified by some malware software and I have deleted the registry folders where my several viruses were located. In the process I also I disabled the SYSTEM to control my account (task manager?).
The effect is that the computer at start up shows weird signs instead of English (so I can't even identify troubleshoot- but by now I've tested all options anyways and there is no reaction) but also doesn't want to log in.
The windows key is on the system of the computer (how smart) and I have no access to original cd as im away. Can I automatically repair it somehow from boot or how do i put a windows on usb to repair the computer from it?
After getting infected and buying an antvirus and cleaned my system i run "sfc /scannow" and it says some protected system fiels are corrupted but its not able to fix them.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been trying several things throughout the day and I have had no success in fixing the corrupted files. I have ran "sfc /scannow" several times (even in safe mode). I have also ran "Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" before and after "sfc /scannow" to no avail.
I am running Windows 8.1, I tried booting from my Windows 8 Pro DVD but whenever I tried to run "sfc /scannow /offbootdir=c: /offwindir=d:windows" I would get an error: Windows Resource Protection could not start the Repair service". How I can fix this without doing a clean install or refresh?

I found something called DISM, but when I used it, it said unable to find source files or something... I found my recover partitions, but they don't have drive letters. Anything I can do?

Win 8x64 desktop, two printers (Brother, Canon) connected with USB cables, no network, not part of home group. Both print ok.
I just did an in-place Win 8 repair, followed by adding the updates. Since the first set of updates, there have been eight PrintService errors (215) in Admin Events at startup.
Here are some examples and screenshots:

I currently have Windows 8.1 (core) on my HP laptop that originally came with Windows 8 (core). Recently I have had issues with Windows update and by searching forums I found the only thing I could do was a repair install. At first I was unable to find my product key from the packaging, but by using Belarc Advisor I was able to locate my product key. I downloaded the Windows 8 and 8.1 installations from the M$ website and when I put in my GENUINE key into windows 8 it says "This product key cannot be used to install a retail version of Windows 8".
I have even tried using a GENERIC key in both it keeps giving me "We can't connect right now."
-I my date and time are correct
-I can connect to the internet (multiple locations)
-antivirus, firewall, etc deactivated
-BITS is on and running
-cryptographic on and running
I am unable to do the windows 8.1 iso download trick and cannot find any forum that has this resolved.
My desktop (Dell Optiplex 755, Windows 8.1 Pro 32-bit, 4GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E6550 2.33GHz) has been playing up over the weekend.
1) Have run restore point 30 June.
2) Sometines beeping (seems like 3-2-3) & not starting. Have removed the 3 RAM sticks, & replaced one at a time. All allowed it to start, so put all back & now booting OK.
3) Ran SFC /scannow, and reported corrupt files found and unable to fix some of them
I am attaching a screen shot of the sfc report, and also attaching the SFC log file.
The latter is many pages if info reports. How to interpret the log, and/or how to repair the system?
As the lpg file CBS.log is nearly 5MB I have split it into 3 files named CBS20140707-a.log.txt, CBS20140707-b.log.txt & CBS20140707-c.log.txt to fit within the 2MB limit for attachment size.
my Gateway SX 2370 shutted down during system restore and now my computer keeps running automatic repair. And I getting tired of this continuous operation....
View 1 Replies View RelatedThis morning i got a "blue screen of death" and my pac said "your pc has ran into some problems". It then fixed everything and all was fine. I then typed "sfc / scannow" in command prompt and come up with the message "windows resource protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them windows 8".
Windows 8.1 being used.
I had a problem with my laptop in that the disk use went to 100% and then the screen started blinking and I couldn't click on anything. After a reinstall of the OS it worked the same as new for about an hour but now the disk use climbs to 100% even when a new tab is opened and it stays at the max for a short time. The laptop becomes unresponsive during this time also.
View 9 Replies View RelatedIt seems my windows ran into a problem. I am using Sony VAIO with OS windows 8, ram 8 GB with Nvidia gt780m graphic card 1 GB. It all started when i restored my pc (without recovery disks) as i was getting some problem in installation of Game (assassin Creed 4) and after restoration it worked fine and well. Then after a week or so my windows crashed and I rushed to service centre as I was not having my recovery disks to restore it. back I got my windows again and so I tried to install the same game but it was not installing showing error (screenshot is attached). I looked to other software like NFS MW 2 again I had same problem.
To ensure that installation files were not corrupt i copied the same files on my friends PC and installed it and it worked well and fine on it. Then I got to know it has something to do with my windows system file so I Google it and found the solution to run SFC/scannow command I did the same and there it was the corrupted files of windows(SFC details are attached). I found one particular solution (though it didn't work) Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command and tried to repair those files but it alwayz get stuck. How to get on to this issue cuz neither it's allowing me to play games nor letting me run a application properly it alwayz interrupt the application and say that certain .exe need to be closed.
After installing Windows 8 upgrade over Win7 on two desktops and one laptop, I ran sfc /scannow (in an administrator command box) as I usually do after new installations, and in all three cases sfc found corrupt system files and repaired them. So downloading the upgrade and installing might find running sfc useful!

View 9 Replies View RelatedFirst let me say, I rarely leave my 8.1 system running all night as I generally switch off before bed.
On the FEW occasions I leave the system running all night I always get the "Your computer is low on memory" warning.
For instance, yesterday my software RAID mirror was "Re-synchronizing" and I wanted it to complete syncing so I left it running. NOTHING was running except Disk Manager. I closed down everything else. No browser, no Skype, no directory utility, no paint, no uTorrent....
Sure enough when I woke up this morning there it was....
A few days ago I wanted a couple of torrents to keep downloading so I kept the desktop running. Again NOTHING else was running and in the morning there it was....
I have 16Gb of memory and my pagefile.sys is 42Gb. My OS disc is a 250Gb SSD. I have set my system to hibernate after 5 hours idle. I have set the screen/display to sleep after 30 minutes.
The system isn't asleep when I wake as moving the mouse immediately brings the display back on line. Checking Task Manager shows NO memory hogs.
What I suspect is after 5 hours the hibernation process denies access to memory requests or something?
The strange thing is millions of people on 8.1 must leave their systems running all night but I have seen no mention of this behaviour.
I want to personalize one of your releases 181 windows image, but I can not extract the wim file from the swm files. I used win toolkit, but when I am extracting the wim file i get this error, and the process stops.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I did a disk repair for one of my hard drives (not the system drive ) using check disk because I could not open my folders it would say they were corrupted. This followed me powering off my pc while it was shutting down. So after the chkdisk repair my drive was now functioning ok except for one thing; some of my files and were missing. I could not see any Found.xxx folder even after showing hidden files. I then checked my free space and noticed that it had not changed inspite of the files missing one of which was a folder containing 250GB of data which I cant afford to lose. This has led me to think my data is still on the drive but just hidden somehow. How can I recover this data.
