Hardware Drivers :: Sony Cybershot Not Detected Under 8.1
Oct 19, 2013
Ok, after playing around a bit with the new 8.1 some hardware issues come into my way: My Soundblaster X-FI didn't work anymore, no new driver provided by Creative Labs - replaced by working sound onboard.
But now my Sony Cybershot DSC-W70 camera isn't detected anymore, no drive letter is assigned and since I have no cardreader I can't access the pics. Troubleshooting says the problem can not be fixed. Sony doesn't provide particular drivers for it and reinstalling the Intel ICH9 driver didn't work. Under Windows 8 it worked like a charm, 8.1 seems not to like much of my hardware.

it appears that windows cannot recognize my dvd drive after i used the option in the general menu to remove everything and reinstall windows,
When I check it in the device manager, it reports the dvd drive as hidden, and need to connect it to solve the problem, but i am pretty positive the dvd drive is connected since i can press the button and the tray will eject (and if i insert a disk i can hear it spinning), check the two attached images for this,
i have tried everything, like updating the firmware (it only worked once when the dvd drive was detected, for otherwise the update app would just request you to connect the drive to update it), it didn't work (in this case, i can see it in windows explorer, but cannot push the button to eject the disk tray), use the reg. fix found on the internet, resetting windows again (after the first reset, the dvd drive can be detected but i cannot burn an iso disk, so i reset it again, took about 20 minutes, now the drive is just simply not visible in explorer), none of them worked,
the laptop is samsung series 3, this one, NP355V5C - OVERVIEW | SAMSUNG
it used to have this problem (dvd not detected, or push button not responding) before, but usually solves on its own after an reboot, unlike this time which is completely screwed up and i am at my wits end,

No USB device seems to be getting detected on my machine when I plug in a flash drive or an external hdd I get the distinctive sound from my speakers that an USB device is plugged in but nothing is showing up in "My Computer". I went through the event logs and found that Windows is failing to load the USB device (check image in attachment logs.jpeg). Recently I installed iTunes, so I though it might be causing this problem but I uninstalled it even then the problem persists. I don't want to format my machine just because of this small problem. Is this a driver conflict ? How do I find out why windows is all of a sudden failing to load the USB devices ? I have uploaded a copy of the saved logs detailing this failure(logs.zip).

I have a Sony DVD camera (mdl DVR-HC85) that has USB and firewire cables for connection to a computer for the purpose of transferring video to computer programs. Both cables work fine with Windows XP. However, Windows 8 will not recognize the camera when connected by a USB cable. I was told by Sony that neither Windows Vista, Windows 7 nor Windows 8 will recognize the camera when using a USB cable.
I have a Dell computer with Windows 8 that does not have firewire nor can a firewire card be installed.

I run Windows in the following configuration:
I have an SSD and a normal HDD. The Windows system itself runs on the SSD for faster boot-up, and all my user data is stored on the HDD. I recently installed Linux as a dual boot option, but due to issues with UEFI and Legacy BIOS settings, I decided to uninstall my Linux. My Linux was similarly configured, with /boot residing on the SSD and the rest of it residing on an ext4-formatted partition on my HDD.
I uninstalled Linux using the boot-repair livedisc, and I can boot just fine into Windows 8.1. However, now my Windows Data partition on the HDD cannot be accessed. On boot, it doesn't even mount, and links to my Downloads or Documents folders are broken.
The Disk Management tool lists the Data partition as an EFI System Partition, when it was previously just a normal Primary NTFS partition. GParted detects the partition as an NTFS one. DiskPart also indicates the partition is hidden. Mounting the partition works fine using DiskPart but I cannot access it as it throws an access denied error, and says I do not have permission to access the drive. I have tried changing the security options in the security tab to give me full control, but to no avail. I can use CMD to access it though, and view things, but I cannot seem to move or copy data out of it. I have tried using the convert utility in CMD to convert the EFI partition to NTFS (EFI is FAT32, IIRC) but it says that the partition is already NTFS.
How can I fix this or at least enter the partition and backup my data before performing a format and restore? What data should I provide to get proper support?

I recently bought a SVT11215SG - SVT11215SG : VAIO - Tap 11 : VAIO® Notebook & Computer : Sony Malaysia Everything was working great, no issues, upgraded to Windows 8.1 smoothly.
But a few months later, suddenly the wireless keyboard stops working.
I have tried almost everything to get it to work again but nothing has worked so far.
Following are a list of things I have tried:
1. Use the pairing tool. (Got an error saying "Fail to get the dongle handle".
2. Reset the BIOS settings to default.
3. Reinstall Bluetooth and Wireless drivers.
4. Manually remove the drivers from Device Manager and reinstall them.
5. Use the Sony Vaio Care to get the latest updates.
6. Download and install the updates manually.
7. Check Windows Update for any optional updates.
I later found out that the keyboard does not work in BIOS either so I am not sure if it's a hardware issue. But the lights on the keyboard blink as normal when I turn it ON.
Will I really have to reinstall Windows? If yes, is it okay to reinstall Windows on such a tablet PC?

whether the Sony HDR-SR12E handycam is compatible with Windows 8.1? I am trying to decide whether to buy this video camera, and it will be nearly as expensive as my computer. I have asked Sony and the Sony forum but have not received a response. To be honest, I don't know how the operating system is involved with transferring AVCHD files from the hard disk or memory cards of a handycam. I notice in file associations on my Windows 8.1 system that .mts (AVCHD) files can be associated with programs, and I have Adobe Premiere Elements 11 installed, and the user guide indicates that AVCHD files can be imported. I'm in unknown waters with transferring files from hard disk video cameras.

This laptop will not shut down fully...basically when I ask it to shut down, it appears to do everything properly to the point where the screen turns off and the lights turn out....except for one. The power light goes from green to a pulsing orange. It's like it's only putting it to sleep because if I press a key on the keyboard it turn on almost instantly.
I should say that the person who gave me this laptop said she had this issue when she first bought it and couldn't be bothered to get it fixed (as you do). Also, this happens regardless of whether the battery is in the machine or not, or vice versa with the power cable.
I was thinking it's an ATK thing but then it did it with Win 7 with the official drivers. BIOS is also up to date.

I was given a laptop recently which I've upgraded to Win 8.1 x64. It has an ATI Mobility 5740 on board. However, under win 8 there's a strange video based issue that experiencing.
With the default windows 8.1 driver (where it displays "ATI 5000 Series"), video plays, audio can be heard, but the video window is just black. This is via Blurays/DVD's in PowerDVD and MP4's in MPC. Browser based video is fine incidentally.
I then tried the official Sony driver (albeit for Win 7) which won't install. I managed to force the driver in via device manager and suddenly all video's work in MPC video player. But, PowerDVD won't open...so I can't play Blurays. The CCC won't open either claiming "No AMD graphics driver is installed..."
Finally, I tried a modified newer 8.1 mobility driver from Guru3D which installs perfectly. However, on opening a video, the player force closes (in MPC & PowerDVD).
I know there's a way to download the latest CC driver online and edit the inf, but I tried that too and it refused to install
Sony felt no need to provide a Win 8/8.1 driver for this laptop and I'd rather not go back to Win 7. I see no plausible reason why it shouldn't work.
Okay so since my previous post I've installed the mobility 14.1 beta drivers. They install (minus an error with the HDMI audio), and they seem stable. I've found that it's something to do with the ATI Hardware decoding. If I change the output of MPC from the enhanced video render (the hardware) and change to overlay mixer render (software), it works so I'm happy with that as a work around. However PowerDVD won't work on H/W or S/W I want to be able to watch blurays...

My audio disappeared and stopped working. my audio icon has a red x on it and when i click it it wants to detect problems (it doesn't work).
what should i do? how should I diagnose the audio? I feel like this is hardware problem as it just happened out of the blue. The audio board has a USB connection (which is working) so the connection from it to the mother board is fine.
Installing and updating the driver did nothing. I can't get the device manager to detect the hardware (scanning does nothing).

Since upgrading my HP DV6T7000-CTO from Windows 7 to Win 8 and now 8.1I have had an intermittent issue where the my wifi/bluetooth adapter is detected, until a restart, and then afterwards, is no longer detected. I have a Intel centrino wireless N 2230 which is both wifi and bluetooth. I cannot connect to wifi, nor is the bluetooth detected. Additionally, the wifi-radio button on my laptop, will not turn on (red is off, white is on). Sometimes I can temporarily fix the issue by shutting down, disconnecting the adapter from my laptop, reseating it, and then rebooting. This does not always work though.
I have tried the latest drivers from Intel as well as tried removing those and just installing whatever Windows update thinks is best. I have also updated the Bios to the latest, but to no avail. I have even replaced the adapter with a new adapter but the same model and that did not fix the issue either.

I get a black screen after the loading screen when I boot up my computer. To fix this problem, I decided to do a dirty install, but I stumbled upon a problem. I have 2 Crucial 64GB SSDs that I put together as one, making my C: Disk, but I didn't see it in the Volume List. I only see what was Drive D:, my 1TB Seagate HDD, which, supposedly, took my SSDs' place as Drive C:.
I've unplugged the SSDs and booted up with only one plugged in, and made the Primary Boot Device "Removable Disk", but when I boot up, I get an error message saying "BOOTMGR is missing". The same thing happened when I did the same with the other SSD. It can be deduced that both of the SSDs have to work together as a whole to function.
Then, I unplugged the 1TB HDD and tried again. When I did a chkdsk for Drive C:, I got a message saying, "The system cannot find the drive specified". From this, it is obvious that the 2 SSDs (which are the actual C: Drives) aren't being detected by my computer, but the 1TB (Drive D: ) is being detected.
After uncovering this problem, I think this may be the fault that is giving me the black screen after boot.

I have an Asus x202e with I3, Windows 8 64 Bits. The defect is that the battery does not detect. Here's what I did: I disconnected the battery, I pressed the power button 30 seconds and not fixed. I reset BIOS F2, F9 and F10 and again not repaired. I uninstalled the Microsoft ACPI method battery and nothing. Do you think that a BIOS update will fix the fault? Mention that no longer turn on the battery.

I tried to uninstall the USB drivers, but had no luck. This problem has been going on for a few days. I tried other solutions but they didn't seem to work. The red LED light was on.

I have a AIO Sony Vaio Tap 20 that I really like, but I want to run off of a different HDD that is a hybrid drive (SSD + HDD) to increase the responsiveness. I have cloned the drive using Macrium's Reflect, but the drive won't boot. At power up, it says "a required device isn't connected" and I can get into several things like the BIOS, but the BIOS is so sparse there isn't anything to do. If I put the original drive back in, all works.
Sony claims that cloning isn't supported, but I wonder how it even knows the drive is different. I wonder if I can overcome it.

Have been trying to connect to a Sony FSV-E1 NAS box from Windows 8 but for some reason I cannot get it to except my username and password. The system works when using Windows XP using the same username and password so I know the system is working.
I can get access to the control panel on the Sony and enter the Administrator username and password which then allows me to use the control panel and change or setup new users and folders.
I think it may be something to do with the way Windows 8 transmits the username and password.

My ex wife (Chinese) gave my daughter a Sony Vaio Duo 11, it is all in Chinese and for the life of me i cannot change it to English. I have tried a factory recovery, Still comes up in chinese, i have tried changing the language and nothing is available for download. I tried installing language packs but all failed with one reason or other.
Have Recovery Media in English for this machine, I have purchased a Windows 8 Pro Full edition to install but obviously will not contain all the duo 11 drivers and Vaio care files. But I guess I can use the Registration Key with no problems. (I hope)
So far I have wasted 4 days trying to do this, and everything is still in Chinese, the model number is SVD112A1ST.

My friend's Sony Vaio laptop is giving keyboard errors - substituting the incorrect characters when typing.
For example if I type the name "George" it comes out "Ge6rge".
When I connected an external keyboard it worked fine. I know that there are ways to re-map keyboard keys. But if that was what was going on here, wouldn't it also affect the external keyboard?

I have a Sony Handycam DCR-HC30 (an older model). The video quality still holds up pretty well though. I am having problems though capturing videos onto Windows 8 though. I thought it was my camera that was not properly working, but after researching I found that a lot of people are having issues with Sony Handycams being recognized by Windows Vista or later Windows software. I have the Pinnacle MovieBox 710-USB to capture, and Pinnacle Studios as the software to capture/edit. The program will recognize the videos from the camera through AV cables, but the transfer isn't too great and frames get dropped. After a lot of trial and error, purchasing the Pinnacle device, and getting the cables needed, I am still unable to get my Windows 8 computer to recognize video through any IEEE 1394 Firewire cable. My lap top doesn't have any slots to add a capture card either, and doesn't have a 6 pin or 4 pin IEEE firewire slot (which is why I had to get the Pinnacle MovieBox).

I have a Sony VAIO VPCS11X9E and my screen brightness is at the lowest setting for some reason. Also, my FN keys for the brightness setting won't work. Any means of changing the brightness does not work, this does include the brightness bar when you go into settings.
I have tried so many driver installs, checked for any missing drivers or out of date drivers, but the only one that seems out of date is my Intel HD graphics which I HAVE updated, yet the Intel driver update checker says otherwise.
I have disabled AND enabled (just in case) the adaptive brightness, but it does NOT work.
I did have Windows 7 Ultimate running on before but decided to upgrade to Windows 8. Windows 7 never had any issues with brightness. Also when I load up, even thought I have replaced Windows 7 with Windows 8, it still loads up the dual boot screen asking me which OS I want to boot with. Booting with Windows 7 will blackout a few times then it will take me to the VAIO repair system. Windows 8 obviously takes me to Windows 8.
When the laptop boots up, the large letters or 'VAIO' are bright and normal and sometimes, but not always, when it gets to the dual boot screen, the brightness is normal. However, when this does happen, as soon as I move the mouse or click a button, the brightness immediately goes back down to very dim.
When it loads up into any other system or boot program the brightness is fine. For example when I go into Sony VAIO's recovery center, the brightness is ok. Also, if I boot into something like miniXP or a separate OS on a bootable disk or USB, the brightness is fine as well.
I have tried many driver fixes, but NONE of them work!! I have tried booting up into safe mode and trying to manually install certain drivers because that apparently works, but it does not make any difference at all.

I have a new Sony Vaio that came with Kaspary Security system - which has 13 days left. It is a Windows 8 Operating system. I know that Windows Defender is disabled - and want to enable it. I have done Windows start menu; Search for Windows Defender. Window appears on the Desktop indicating that it is not active - with no options. I have also done the Administrative Tools in Control Panel - to "activate" - and completed a restart. I still cannot activate Windows Defender. Do I have to Uninstall the Kaspary antivirus before I can activate Windows Defender? If yes, I assume I would do that through the control Panel - uninstall programs?

Working as a Mainframe programmer, I am automatically assumed to be an expert in all things IT and so a friend of the family has passed me a laptop to repair
What we have is the common Automatic Repair loop. The computer restarts, states "Preparing Automatic Repair" and "Diagnosis..." etc etc, and then does it all again. I cant get to the recovery menu or bios having tried different combinations of Shift F8, F12, F2.
I have found so far recommends booting from disk. Unfortunately, the owner of the laptop has no manual or box or any record whatsoever of the product key.
The laptop came with windows 8 preinstalled. I have tried to boot from a Windows 7 DVD, but it does not appear to be recognised and continues to do the automatic repair loop.
