View 2 RepliesMy sony vaio laptop model is VPCEH26EN.I recently installed windows 8 pro 64 Bit.I formatted whole hard disk and installed windows 8.I had a oem recovery partition when i bought this laptop with windows 7 preinstalled. By this hard disk partition, I used to recover the whole windows to its factory condition by using F10 key. The recovery hard-disk partition was of only 11Gb.it contains the whole windows with some software already installed . But now i have no recovery partition now. How to create recovery partition with in 12GB for future purpose. The windows default system image creation usually taking 40 gb space. So its of no use. How to create a recovery partition which can be used to recover windows to its factory condition using F10 key in case of any error in future?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a AIO Sony Vaio Tap 20 that I really like, but I want to run off of a different HDD that is a hybrid drive (SSD + HDD) to increase the responsiveness. I have cloned the drive using Macrium's Reflect, but the drive won't boot. At power up, it says "a required device isn't connected" and I can get into several things like the BIOS, but the BIOS is so sparse there isn't anything to do. If I put the original drive back in, all works.
Sony claims that cloning isn't supported, but I wonder how it even knows the drive is different. I wonder if I can overcome it.
My ex wife (Chinese) gave my daughter a Sony Vaio Duo 11, it is all in Chinese and for the life of me i cannot change it to English. I have tried a factory recovery, Still comes up in chinese, i have tried changing the language and nothing is available for download. I tried installing language packs but all failed with one reason or other.
Have Recovery Media in English for this machine, I have purchased a Windows 8 Pro Full edition to install but obviously will not contain all the duo 11 drivers and Vaio care files. But I guess I can use the Registration Key with no problems. (I hope)
So far I have wasted 4 days trying to do this, and everything is still in Chinese, the model number is SVD112A1ST.
My friend's Sony Vaio laptop is giving keyboard errors - substituting the incorrect characters when typing.
For example if I type the name "George" it comes out "Ge6rge".
When I connected an external keyboard it worked fine. I know that there are ways to re-map keyboard keys. But if that was what was going on here, wouldn't it also affect the external keyboard?
I have a Sony VAIO VPCS11X9E and my screen brightness is at the lowest setting for some reason. Also, my FN keys for the brightness setting won't work. Any means of changing the brightness does not work, this does include the brightness bar when you go into settings.
I have tried so many driver installs, checked for any missing drivers or out of date drivers, but the only one that seems out of date is my Intel HD graphics which I HAVE updated, yet the Intel driver update checker says otherwise.
I have disabled AND enabled (just in case) the adaptive brightness, but it does NOT work.
I did have Windows 7 Ultimate running on before but decided to upgrade to Windows 8. Windows 7 never had any issues with brightness. Also when I load up, even thought I have replaced Windows 7 with Windows 8, it still loads up the dual boot screen asking me which OS I want to boot with. Booting with Windows 7 will blackout a few times then it will take me to the VAIO repair system. Windows 8 obviously takes me to Windows 8.
When the laptop boots up, the large letters or 'VAIO' are bright and normal and sometimes, but not always, when it gets to the dual boot screen, the brightness is normal. However, when this does happen, as soon as I move the mouse or click a button, the brightness immediately goes back down to very dim.
When it loads up into any other system or boot program the brightness is fine. For example when I go into Sony VAIO's recovery center, the brightness is ok. Also, if I boot into something like miniXP or a separate OS on a bootable disk or USB, the brightness is fine as well.
I have tried many driver fixes, but NONE of them work!! I have tried booting up into safe mode and trying to manually install certain drivers because that apparently works, but it does not make any difference at all.
I have a new Sony Vaio that came with Kaspary Security system - which has 13 days left. It is a Windows 8 Operating system. I know that Windows Defender is disabled - and want to enable it. I have done Windows start menu; Search for Windows Defender. Window appears on the Desktop indicating that it is not active - with no options. I have also done the Administrative Tools in Control Panel - to "activate" - and completed a restart. I still cannot activate Windows Defender. Do I have to Uninstall the Kaspary antivirus before I can activate Windows Defender? If yes, I assume I would do that through the control Panel - uninstall programs?
View 3 Replies View RelatedRandom BSOD s started to show up on my laptop. The laptop came with win 7 and I installed win 8 to it afterwards.
I have recently updated the OS to Win 8.1 and had 3-4 BSOD s in a day (driver_irql_not_less_or_equal netio.sys)
I am trying to migrate my OS to SSD but I spent one evening without success. I was trying to clone disk but after swaping drives I'm getting screen that my system should be recovered.

What we have is the common Automatic Repair loop. The computer restarts, states "Preparing Automatic Repair" and "Diagnosis..." etc etc, and then does it all again. I cant get to the recovery menu or bios having tried different combinations of Shift F8, F12, F2.
I have found so far recommends booting from disk. Unfortunately, the owner of the laptop has no manual or box or any record whatsoever of the product key.
The laptop came with windows 8 preinstalled. I have tried to boot from a Windows 7 DVD, but it does not appear to be recognised and continues to do the automatic repair loop.
I've only recently noticed this, but the brightness on my Vaio is stuck.
FN+F5/6 does nothing at all.
Changing the slider on both Win+C - Settings - Brightness and also through the Control Panel display options both do nothing either. How to get around this?
I have just installed windows 8.1 on my sister's pink VAIO laptop
Everything works well, except that CPU fan which is working on maximum speed and is very loud.
I know this is completely software or driver related, but I cannot figure out what driver update might solve this issue.
I have a sony vaio core i7, 8 gb ram windows 8 pro with hyper-v for windows 8 installed and working. my issue is that all my vms come up fine but after about 10 minutes of inactivity they automatically shut down. I have set all my power options in both the vm and my host as never on all the sleep options, still the problem persists. I need these vms to stay up.
View 3 Replies View RelatedRecently the sound on my Sony Vaio will play initially, but afterwards won't work. It doesn't say it's muted and the little green part that shows sound in the speaker area also doesn't appear when something is playing. I have tried to test the speakers to see if that plays sound but when I do it says that they are being used with another application and to close it before I try to test them, even when nothing else is open. If I restart it, the same thing will happen again. Why is this happening?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems with my sony vaio connecting to the internet. For one thing it doesn't pick up wireless signal as far away as the other laptops in the house. The main problem though, is that often the bars will be lit up as if it is connected but there will be a little yellow warning triangle saying limited.
When it happens, I try disconnecting/reconnecting and turning the router on and off but most of the time I just have to wait until it comes back. Once it is connected it works fine. It is fairly a fairly common occurrence and happens every day.
We have an Eircom router and the wireless card (according to the outside of the box) is: Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11bgn).

I have a problem on my laptop running Windows 8: I can't disable TouchPad Edge Swipes, so everytime i accidentally swipe on my TouchPad, Charms Bar pops up. I've disabled it using Start8 start menu, but the program cannot prevent it from popping up when using the TouchPad. I've also read Brink's tutorial (How to enable or disable touchpad edge swipes on Windows 8), but the problem is i don't have an 'Enable Edge Swipes' button on the driver's settings window (i think it's because i have a different laptop).
My laptop model is Sony Vaio VPCSE1E1E. I have installed the latest TouchPad driver from VAIO Support's website.
I have a virus On my sony VAIO duo 11 windows 8, that makes everything a "shortcut" especially on my flash drives. The problem is, I want to reinstall windows from the recovery partition. However, every time I try to copy the recovery partition onto a flash drive, it copies over to the flash drive in a "shortcut" fashion which hinders me from creating a bootable flash drive. I tried malware bytes and other antivirus programs to make it stop creating shortcuts but to no avail.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Windows 8 is corrupted on my VAIO Sony Laptop, so I tried to install Ubuntu-12.04.2 to access my data. I didn't get very far, however, because after I selected to boot from 'internal optical drive' and 'enabled' for 'secure boot' in the UEFI, and put the Ubuntu CD in, the screen went black. Now, I can't get it to switch on again at all nor can I get the CD out of the drive. When I press the 'assist' button to boot through UEFI or the power button to boot normally, the power and battery lights illuminate for the amount of time I'm holding either button down but nothing else happens. It's a new laptop - model SVE151G13M - that I bought in Germany very recently but can't get fixed under warranty because I'm currently in South Africa and the warranty is not valid here.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy PC is unable to detect 5Ghz band where rest of the devices at my home are detecting both the bands.
I have recently bought D-Link dual band router and installed at home. Router is working absolutely fine because I could see my other laptop and Ipad are able to detect both the bands. So that says there no problem with the router configuration. Also the router which I have bought is recently released, so there are no new updates are released yet.
As per the installation guide, 802.11a supports 5Ghz and IEEE 802 11b/g/n supports 2.4 Ghz.
My PC details :
Model : Sony SVF14A190X (an year old laptop)
Operating System : Windows 8.1 Pro, 64 Bit
Network Adaptor drivers: BCM43142 Wireless Network Adapter
Router Details: D-Link DIR-850L VER A.1 wireless AC1200 Dual Band Gigabit Cloud Router.
The network adaptor which my laptop supports IEEE 802 11b/g/n..i.e.2.4 Ghz. I tried installing the Network Adapter drivers in compatibility mode, but that doesn't fix the issue.
When I checked in Command prompt, it says : Radio Types Supported : 802.11n 802.11g 802.11b.
How should I upgarde network drivers to : 802.11n 802.11a 802.11g 802.11b
A month ago or so I made a copy of the recovery partition using the Windows option to create recovery unit, and when it finished I chose the option to delete recovery partition from the internal hard drive.
A new 25 GB hard drive appeared, everything was fine.
Now I would like to sell this laptop but I don't know how to put the recovery partition back in its place or if it's even possible.
I know the backup it's complete because the data size t's the same and when i tried it, the restore was from the scratch, even with the sony wizard before the windows configuration.
frequently getting a BSOD at sporadic intervals with 'Driver power state failure' irrespective of battery / plugged in and irrespective of what program is running. SF Diagnostic files are attached.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new Sony vaio duo 11 running (or not) Windows 8 64 bit. I was away when it arrived. Number one son decided to set it up for me so that it would be working on my return. I now need to refresh or recover but am being told that some Windows files are missing. I have no media disk or backup. So how do I go about getting the missing files?
Every web site tells me to stick the Windows 8 media in. This doesn't seem to be a rare problem so why don't Microsoft make them available online? Alternatively, if I was to buy a Windows 8 64bit pro upgrade and install over, would this provide me with the missing files?
I am trying to setup a wifi hotspot in my Windows 8.1
I have been trying to do this manually in the Command Prompt as all the proprietry systems 4 No) I tried all failed after about 12 hrs
I used the following command "netsh wlan start hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=NAME=password"
And obtained the correct response
I then typed "netsh wlan start hostednetwork" and got the following response
" The hosted network could not be started
The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation"
How can I determine what this means and how is it resolved
I did check using the command prompt that this was possible with the computer and received acknowledgement
I have a Sony vaio VGX-TP20E. I put the win 8 disk into the computer and setup up the startup to boot from optical drive. But it skips it and starts up win 7 like it normally does. How can I install windows 8?
The first time I did that win7 had some kind of virus in it so I went to the recovery partition and restored the computer to factory settings.
So my other question is if I do somehow get it to work, do I have to delete the recovery partition or do I leave it alone. Logically it would only be able to recover for windows 7 right?
As all know that Microsoft removed the ability to create ad-hoc wireless connection via the "Set up a wireless ad hoc" option under "Set up a new connection or network" in Windows 8, So my question is How can we bring back the valuable feature?
My friends are using Windows 7 and they can create a Wi-fi Hotspot very easily which can even be accessed by me having Windows 8 Enterprise installed in Compaq 620. But i couldn't create one.
I've tried the following applications floating in the web which claims to do the Job, but none of them seems to work for me-
1. Connec8
2. Virtual Router Plus
3. Wi-Man
4. Win Hot-Spot version v.1.2.42
5. Connectify
6. Thinix Wi-Fi Hotspot
This feature was good in Windows 7. I don't know what made Microsoft remove it from Windows 8. For this only i am being advised to downgrade to Windows 7, which genuinely i am not interested in!!
I bought a new Sony Vaio laptop with Windows 8 pre-installed couple months ago; and all I have done since was installing just the MS Office and the Antivirus softwares. Now for no apparent reasons it shows the hard drive is full and I can not do anything with it. I've tried to create a system recovery with an USB flash drive, but it won't let me do it either.

I selected the option to boot from external device and selected the boot mode as UEFI. But it doesnot go into the windows 8.1 setup.
Then i selected the legacy mode and started the setup but it booted into the 8.1 setup. I formatted the C: Drive and selected that partition to install windows 8.1 on it but it showed mean an error showing that the partition is of GPT style and windows cannot install. I was doomed...
it happens because it is not booted in the UEFI mode and then i tried again but it doesnot go into the windows setup and shows a black screen with the notification that no operating system was found.
