Win 8 - Will Not Recognize Hard Drive As Secondary If Set Up UEFI?
Aug 20, 2013I have a laptop that i set up with an image that loads Win8X64 UEFI Secure. If this hard drive crashes at all, will i get a chance to hook it up to as an external hard drive to another computer to pull off user files as back up?
I tried to do this scenario before i start deploying uefi secure images for my company but it wouldn't show data. I can see the drive however in devices but it won't give it a drive letter and i can't access it.
Is there a resolution to this problem that i can troubleshoot just in case i run into it in the future.

Apr 30, 2014First of all.. let me say that this HDD does not have any kind physical damage. It has not been dropped.. nor it has a clicking or beeping sound.
The HDD is SeaGate FreeAgent Go 250 GB. I always watch movies in bulk. So I copy it to my HDD and plug it in the TV and use it. Today when I plugged it in to my PC for watching another set of movies, the copying was not going in a stable manner.. instead the graph showed mountain-like copying.. i.e. first it goes at much speed and then it loses and fall back to 1 or 2 mb/s.. So I thought that a defrag could set things right.
I defragged it and went for a coffee.. After coming back, the defrag was complete but i was unable to open the HDD.. I safely removed it but it said it was in use.. I shut down my PC and unplugged it.. turned on my PC but when I insert my HDD its unreadable.. it shows no percentage of free space.. only just Local Disk F.. ( earlier it used to show FreeAgent GO) I ran chkdsk F: /f /r.. but it showed some error.. I closed it. The log file is attached..
Now whenever I open my HDD, its stops responding.. I know it can be solved..

Feb 20, 2014I was going to reinstalling windows on my computer and i thought put 200gb for windows 8 and and 1300gb can be for windows 7(for gaming), So i install windows 8 and shrink the hard drive size so windows 8 has 200gb. And use windows 7 for gaming but my pc is a bit s#*t and a dont do gaming any more. (only on the ps3).
So can i unshrink or something so i have 1.5tb together for windows 8?

Secondary Hard Drive Causing Freezing PC / Lockups
Sep 25, 2013A couple of months ago I built a new system and made the jump to Windows 8.
Everything runs great apart from one thing - my secondary hard drive (which is the old one from my old rig) is having issues, which I am now only using for all my less-important programs, and movies, games and general files.
Whenever I open up the drive in Computer or Explorer, it will lock up the window/freeze for 10-20 seconds before returning to normal, in which I can then use it again. It will work for normally for around 5-10 minutes before the lockup returns.
I have the hard drive split into two partitions. Both do the same thing.
Hardware Drivers :: 2nd Hard Drive Shows In BIOS But Not Disk Management
Dec 4, 2013Over the last couple days, I built a new PC and installed windows 8.1. Initially I had some issues installing windows, so I unplugged all my drives except the SSD and DVD. I installed windows to my SSD.
Everything works great!
Now I started adding my drives back in 1 at a time. When I plugged my 2nd SSD in, it showed up in BIOS, but not in Disk Management or Device Manager. So I booted back into the install CD, it showed up in the disk manager there. Since this was also a blank SSD, I partitioned and formated the drive from the install CD, then exited the installer and booted back to my windows drive.
I have 2 SSD drives working great!
Now to add my 2TB HDD... Same issue, it shows up in BIOS and the install disc, but not in Disk Management or Device Manager. This drive does not have a boot partition on it, however, it does have two existing data partitions. They were made from my previous windows 7 system and the option to delete these partitions is grayed out in the install disc menu. I also have some data that I would like to keep on it. I have a USB dock that I can use to read the contents of the disk just fine. Everything is there and in working order.
What is different about Windows 8.1 that is preventing my hard drives from showing up in windows proper? I am reading things about UEFI online, but nothing seems to fit my exact scenario. I will try and post some screen shots when I get back at it.

Mobo- Asrock Fatal1ty Killer z87
CPU- i3 4330
GPU- Gigabyte 660 OC
SSDs - Kingston V300 120GB
Windows 8.1 64bit

Jan 2, 2014Basically at the moment i am using Windows 7 Home and will be upgrading to Windows 8.1 in about a weeks time. I currently have Windows 7 installed on a 60Gb SSD and i have a secondary 500Gb Seagate Barracuda for other files. What i am wondering is if i clean install Windows 8 onto the SSD only will i still be able to use the 2nd drive in Windows 8? Basically this drive has a fair amount of music / videos etc and i would like to make to make sure i can use these. I would like to do a clean install and not an upgrade btw.

1 is 55gb kingston ssd where i run my windows
2 is 1tb hitachi where i keep my games and other junk
3 is seagates 250gb laptop hdd.
The main problem was that sometimes when opening or just clicking some folders freezes the file explorer and it crashes after it, so i tought to format the second hdd to make it work better now it seems work ok except for moving files from hdd to another.
When copying the copy speed just at random point drops to 0% and leaves the hdd 3 to hang 100% and the hdd 2 is dropping to 0%.
What i have tried:
I ran hdd regenerator and 18 bad sectors were fixed Also tried to change sata ports That's not much but can't figure anythin else for now and i am starting to suspect that my hdd is gone bad :/ also when downloading ~100mb file from internet it makes same thing but i don't know is it same problem...

Jul 26, 2014I used four drives in my hard-disk. I needed to extend volume for my C drive. So using the Disk management utility I was trying to shrink the drive F (as it was very next to C, as in Disk management). But something happen accidental here. I found that two of my drives E & F went missing after the operation. Also my laptop suddenly restarted (after perform a checking task). I am not sure how this happened and looking for a way to recover the lost partitions as they are seen still exist, including the data.
I was only trying to shrink around 283 mb of volume from a drive with 138 gb, as an experiment basis, to see it work. On that process the drives were lost and those are not shown into my windows now. Using a software EaseUS Partition Master, I could still see the drives still exist as they contain the data as used spaces, and also show the unallocated space of 283 mb but I am not finding a way how could I recover my partition without affecting the data.

Jul 12, 2014As I am nearing the limits of my C drive, I have been purging applications and moving them to a secondary D drive. One of the uninstalled apps, Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Pro, opened up space on my drive, but also left about 29 uninstalled programs (and I assume, many unnecessary folders). According to a couple of Google searches, uninstalling these programs, even if done in the correct order, could cause some problems down the line. However, I do want to install this program on my D drive. Would installing visual studio on my d drive cause any problems (as there are 29 programs related to visual studio on the C drive)? I am running windows 8.1 on a Gigabyte p34g.

Sep 15, 2014I have a HP Envy 4 Ultrabook and I want to install Windows 8 from scratch, I put the installation files on a flash drive from a DVD of Win 8 I had, but when I go to install it, it says the "We couldn't find any drives". I have tried using DiskPart within the CMD as well, but it only finds my flash drive when I run list disk. Also, my drives are completely formatted, and I accidentally wiped the recovery partition. I tried with a USB of Win 8 Pro, and it was fine, showing all of my drives correctly, but that version is linked to another PC, so I can't install it. Also, I booted into a Linux Mint live CD and tried to install it, it sees my hard drive correctly, but the Windows install does not, I can't figure this out, never encountered it before. Is Linux my only option at this point?

Jun 29, 2014I recently set up Windows 8.1 on a new SSD (as GPT). While I'm aware that Windows automatically creates its necessary extra small partitions for recovery, I just realized that my secondary HDD which I also formatted as GPT has these extra partitions. This secondary HDD was the one shipped on my laptop that used to have Win 8 preinstalled so maybe its remnants of that.
My question is (and I hope this is the right forum to ask): Are those partitions only necessary if the said hard drive contains the OS? In other words, can I delete them since this is a secondary drive?

i installed WINDOWS-8 RP 64bit for trail on DG41RQ mobo (as well as on other PC (DG31PR) where there is no problem).
all was well till i updated the intel chipset driver (Intel Chipset Device Software version 9.1.2.1008)
and the BIOS version (to RQG4110H.86A.0017.EB)
now the system doesn't recognize my LG DVD drive (HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GH22NP20) , (also in device manger and also in SAFE MODE) my BIOS dose recognize it and i CAN boot a live Win-XP from it.
i tried to roll back the IDE intel controllers drivers, but no change.
i have an IDE HDD as master, and the DVD Drive as SLAVE (recognized as such by BIOS).
my UEFI is desabled in BIOS (i don't know what it is actually).
(i have Activation Key (PRO) but i want to make sure all is well before activation)

Apr 24, 2014I have a Samsung SE-218 External DVD drive, and I cannot seem to access it in Windows 8.1 (though I have not had a chance to try it on any other computers yet, so there is always the possibility that something is wrong with the drive). Whenever I plug it in the light comes on and it will spin the disc for a bit, but nothing shows up in File Explorer or in Device Manager.

Oct 25, 2013I have a sony vaio pro laptop, originally running windows 8 but just updated to windows 8.1. However, this problem was the same when I had windows 8 so updating to 8.1 has not changed anything. I cannot add my xbox 360 wirelessly as a device to my vaio laptop. I want to be able to stream videos etc from laptop to xbox. When I go to Change PC settings>Devices>Add device the computer searches but will not find the xbox, despite it being switched on and connected to the wireless network.
The really frustrating thing is that I have another laptop running windows 8, now updated to 8.1, and it connects with the xbox with no problems whatsoever. As soon as I click 'add a device' on this laptop the xbox is found and I can connect to it/stream content with no problems.
I have tried disabling the firewall on my vaio laptop, still didn't work. I have ensured sharing etc is turned on on both the laptop and the xbox.

Jan 24, 2014I have recently bough a new PC. Now that everything is put together and installed I am facing only ONE problem.
I own an Adata Nobility NH13 External HDD which is USB 3.0. When I plug it into any USB3.0 port using a USB3.0 cable, the drive does not show up in My Computer, nor in Device manager, regardless if I use the Front or Rear USB3.0 ports.
The USB2 ports work just fine with it but what is the point in having a USB3.0 device if you don't use it the way you should ... If I plug in USB2 devices in the USB3.0 ports the work great, and even if I connect the ExtHDD with a USB2 cable it does work.
Now, the first thing you would think is that the USB3.0 drivers are missing but in the Device manager, unser USB controllers, there is a Intel(R) USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller-0100(Microsoft).

Jul 28, 2014I have put a 120Gb Intel SSD in my laptop, done a fresh install of Windows 8 from the supplied recovery DVD's. Then upgraded to Windows 8.1 through the Windows store, installed Photoshop 7 and Kingsoft Office and a couple of very small other programs. Everything is working fine. Great. I have hardly any docs music etc on this machine (they are all on my server).
I checked my hard drive usage and discover that I have used 75.3Gb and only have 31.2Gb left. C: partition is 106Gb. I know that the recovery DVD's created restore partitions and they can be seen in disk management. No worries there, they are only a few Gb and make up the total usable disk space (120Gb or so)
So I have been looking for where the bloat is. I have enabled viewing hidden files, and added up all the folders sizes on the root of C: It comes to 44Gb. It doesn't add up to anywhere near the total that I am being told is used 75Gb. So what is using the additional 31Gb or so? and how do I find it?
I have attached a screenshot showing properties of "all in c:/" and properties of "Local Disk C"
As you can see, they are very different.
Windows 8 - Cloned Hard Disk Is Not Bootable?
Mar 9, 2013My hard disk was always full (itunes/picasa filling it with multiple backups etc); so decided to upgrade to a whopping 1tb. I bought the HDD and a cradle; and have created a clone of all my files and settings onto the new monster using an application. I want to copy all my settings across - Virtual DJ takes best part of a day to configure for example.
Downside is, the new disk is not bootable; and I cannot make it bootable however I try.
I have made the partition active using "diskmanger"
I have gone to the drive and typed in admin mode in command prompt:
g:
cd/boot
bootsect g:
I have also tried:
Bcdedit /import C:BootBCD.
This hasn't worked, so tried this:
Bcdedit /set {bootmgr} device partition=G:
TBH - don't really understand the commends, just trying everything I can!

May 5, 2013I tried to make partitions on my hard disk and then tried to reboot the system, but it fails to reboot, error 0xc0000225 (winloader) on blue screen. BIOS sees the harddisk. I can also load the recovery program (hp), but it provides me only 1 option - to make system recovery to factory settings and losing all I have on my hard disk. Can it be somehow possible to recover win 8 and start it without factory settings recovery and losing files?
