HP Laptop Won't Boot Into Windows 8.1
Jul 10, 2014
Last night, my HP laptop (would not turn off, so I took the battery out to shut it off that way. When I put the battery back in and tried starting it up, it started, but told me that it was "Repairing Disk Errors" so I waited for about an hour and a half, and it blue screened and restarted. It told me again that it was "Scanning and Repairing Drives" and when that was done it again said "Repairing Disk Errors" then blue screened AGAIN. When it restarted, a blue screen came up saying "Your PC could not start properly. You can try restarting or try other advanced options." I clicked "Advanced Options" and turned off my PC from there. This morning, I turned on the laptop and it gave me the same screen. I clicked "Advanced Options" and tried Refreshing my PC, but after a half hour, a screen came up saying "There was a problem refreshing your PC." I tried resetting my PC, but the same screen came up saying "There was a problem resetting your PC." I tried shutting off the laptop, and now it won't shut off.

After owning MSI GS70 for about less than a month I have noticed that sometimes my MSI wont boot up into Windows 8. It would get stuck on the MSI logo page without the little loading circle appearing. It would just stuck at the logo page. I had to force restart it. Sometimes after I force restart it would boot in the normal title page, but the Desktop Title would not be responsive. I then had to restart using the task manager restart button. (each shutdown I would usually unplug the power source and I would plug it back in before turning on the laptop.
Or is it more of a Windows 8 Issues?

I have an old laptop from 2007. I bought windows 8 license (was using W7) and it was working great for the few months. After that it stopped. Now if I want to boot it, or restart it or shut it down it takes at least 30 minutes which huge sound coming from it.
I got a new laptop today, but I still want to use my old one. As I think a laptop is a girl, it has to be perfect
It takes 1 minute to enter the windows 8. And 29 minutes to enter the metro layout (it keeps loading).
What do I have to do.

Possible to install Windows 7 x64 on my laptop as a dual boot option? It's running Windows 8.1 upgraded from Windows 8. If it's possible(considering I'll be installing via partitioning my D drive), will I still be able to use applications installed on Win 8.1 on the newly installed Win7? (ie Microsoft Office '10; various Online Games) ...
And will I have to reinstall drivers? (ie Sound/Graphic Drivers)
Specs:
Asus K46CA
Intel i3-3217 1.8ghz
4GB Ram
500GB HDD
Intel HM76 Express Chipset
Intel HD 4000 Graphics
Windows 8.1 Single Language

I have a new laptop with Win8 on it and because of where I take it to I would like to protect it with a password in case it gets stolen. How do I set it up so when I turn it on I need to enter a password to allow it to boot up or get into it once it's booted up?

I have been researching installing Ubuntu alongside Win 8.on my daughters laptop. I already boot Ubuntu & Win 7 on my desktop pc, but I have read some horror stories about installing Ubuntu with Win 8., mostly in regard to the uefi boot system in Win 8., as well as, its a laptop as opposed to desktop.
I have been told that i must enter the bios first and disable secure boot. Most of the tutorials I have read are very complex. Then i read a tutorial from this website, dated 2011 that appeared to be simple, and similar to my own Ubuntu/Win 7 installation, however it was dated 2011.
Dual Boot Windows 8 And Ubuntu : Windows 8 Guides
The only difference with my intended installation is that I will use a dvd as my Pc does not have a USB Boot option.

I can not boot my Toshiba laptop Windows 8.1 computer after I was attempting to resize partitions. I got in over my head. Now I'm stuck and cannot boot.
I believe the problem is I somehow created a second copy of my EFI partition. Now I have two "system" partitions of the same size.
Cannot boot, but got a command prompt. Ran "bcdedit" and got:
"The boot configuration data store could not be opened. The requested system device cannot be identified due to multiple indistinguishable devices potentially matching the identification criteria."
Other things I uncovered:
Diskpart> list partition
Partition 1 System
Partition 2 System
Partition 3 Reserved
Partition 4 Primary
Partition 5 Recovery
Partition 6 Recovery
(note both partitons 1 & 2 say "System" for type.)
Diskpart> Select Partition 1detail partition * Volume 2 System NTFS Partition 352 MB Healthy Hidden
Diskpart> Select Partition 2detail partition * Volume 3 FAT32 Partition 352 MB Healthy Hidden
I conclude that Partition 1 equates to Volume 2, Partition 2 to Volume 3. However there is no longer a "System" label on Part 2/Vol 3 once drilled down to details. Also its FAT32.
I am hoping/praying that I could "delete" one of the duplicate partitions. But scared to make any such move. Not sure where to go from here.

Windows 8 Laptop. My homepage doesn't appear when I boot. Basically, I get a page that I looked at last. First thing I did was go to Internet Options to make sure the box which says to open with home page is checked and it is. Browser is IE.

I have a Lenovo laptop that came with Windows 8 pre-installed. I decided I want to dual boot with XUbuntu.
I shrank my partition and left space for the linux distro. I installed xubuntu into the free space, and even set the bootloader installation to be in that partition as well.
Then after installation, I only get the GRUB bootloader. How to get Windows 8 back and I finally be able to boot into either OS.
However, I have lost the blue UEFI boot manager that Windows 8 should display.
So I get EasyBCD on Windows, try lots of options to regain an original boot manager. But instead of the typical blue UEFI screen, it created a black screen with my boot options (and the linux option doesn't boot from there).
So to summarise, my boot sequence is like this:
-Switch on laptop
-See GRUB, with default pointing to Windows. I am able to boot to linux from here.
-Click Windows and then see Windows Boot Manager (black) with Windows and Linux
-Click Windows and it boots. Click linux and get an error.
I have secure boot enabled, and I installed xubuntu in secure boot mode.

When I turn on my friend's Asus Windows 8 laptop, the backlit keyboard lights up momentarily, the screen stays blank. I can hear the hard drive spinning, but nothing happens onscreen.
I can get in the Setup menu by pressing F2 on boot. I've turned off Fast Boot, did not work.

I'm trying to install windows 8.1 on a sony vaio E series laptop which had windows 8 preloaded on it. I made a bootable usb thumb drive with Windows USB CD/DVD Download tool. When i try to boot through the pdrive it doesn't boot. I selected the option to boot from external device and selected the boot mode as UEFI. But it doesnot go into the windows 8.1 setup.
Then i selected the legacy mode and started the setup but it booted into the 8.1 setup. I formatted the C: Drive and selected that partition to install windows 8.1 on it but it showed mean an error showing that the partition is of GPT style and windows cannot install. I was doomed...
it happens because it is not booted in the UEFI mode and then i tried again but it doesnot go into the windows setup and shows a black screen with the notification that no operating system was found.

remotely via Teamviewer bought a Win 8 Lenovo laptap .
It's a Lenovo - IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro Ultrabook with Win 8.1 preinstalled
Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 2 Pro Ultrabook 2in1 13.3" TouchScreen Laptop 8GB Memory Yoga 2 Pro-59386391 -
She also bought an external USB DVD burner.I created a bootable Macrium Rescue disc so we can restore from a Backup Image if needed. The laptop won't boot from the USB DVD drive and gets a "blocked by the current security policy" error.
How can I boot from an external USB drive? Is there a setting in BIOS that will allow booting from the DVD?
I found this thread in the Lenovo forum for a different model that mentions "turn off secure boot", if it's an available option.

I was using my laptop with everything going smoothly. USB port with adapter and CF card inserted. Ear buds in audio port. I decided to close the laptop which automatically puts the system in hibernate (or whatever it does when fast startup is active). Everything looked good. Now when I come back to it, open the lid and begin to startup from hibernate state it gets hung in the bootup and will not proceed. I have tried holding the power button to shut down and then restart -- no joy -- comes back to the same hung screen. Have tried holding various escape keys with startup -- no joy -- back to that same hung screen. Is there some way to bypass the hyberfil file which is probably corrupted, and get back to a full cold boot and restart from scratch?

I brought my Toshiba laptop over to a friends house last night. We did some gaming, and everything was fine and acting normal. This morning, I packed up and when I got home, started up my laptop. A black screen with a window popped up with boot menu and app menu on it. Under the Boot Menu, there is Windows Boot Manager, and SATA:: TSSTcorp CDDVDW SU-B08AB. Under App Menu, There is Setup. The only thing I can enter is Setup, and there is a lot of things I don't understand.

HP Pavilion dv7-1245dx Laptop 4 Gigs RAM never needed more than one press of the power button to boot while using Windows 7 Ultimate and not in Windows 8; however, when I updated to Windows 8.1 Pro Update (8.1 plus 8.1 Update all at once) I now have to press the power button, wait for bootup to freeze, do a hard shutdown, and then press the power button again. This time, without fail, the laptop boots.
This has been happening since day one of the Windows 8.1 Update.
I can live with it, but would rather not. I have the DVD, so can do a complete reinstall; however, I'd rather not if I don't have to.

I'm trying to dual boot windows 7 on my windows 8 laptop, and I am able to install windows 7 using the UEFI usb I created, but before I install it on the allocated space partition I created, it gives me a warning that my partitions are not in the recommended order. My partitions are currently set up as: 300 MB EFI System partition, 900 MB Recovery partition, C: Windows 8 NTFS (860 GB), D: Unallocated space for win 7 (NTFS, 50GB), and 20 GB Recovery partition. How should I have my partitions set up in this case? I am also planning to create another partition in order to install Ubuntu after I install Windows 7

I have an acer laptop that came preloaded with windows 8 64bit. I am unable to turn on test mode. It says "Setting is protected by secure boot" or something similar.
An option in the boot settings (accessed by holding shift key while restarting) is there to turn off driver signing restrictions but it isn't working for me at all.
I did it on my desktop with windows 8.1 (not preloaded) in order to set my mouse USB port to a higher frequency with a non-digitally signed driver.

I got into BIOS and found a menu I've never seen before.
Add boot option.
Path to boot option.
Create.
The add boot option doesn't accept letters or numbers. Any input is 'out of range'.
Asus model X551M, has a 500 gig hard drive.
So, how do I get this to work ?

Computer was running slow so I did a reset of windows. It worked but the problem still existed. My computer froze so I turned my laptop off and back on only to find it stuck in that automatic repair loop. I tried system restore, no luck. I made that bootable usb for repairing and that didn't work either. Straight repair won't work either. I have tried every option and am completely lost as to how to proceed. I need the files off the hard drive but don't have a way to connect it to anything to be able to access the files.

I was listening to music and surfing net on my Windows 8 running HP 650 laptop, when suddenly everything froze.I restarted the laptop by hard pressing the power key. But now at the start-up, the laptop is showing "No OS was found on Boot Drive, please install OS and try again".
When i used the windows 8 DVD for refreshing/resetting it, it says can not refresh because the drive is locked.
i tried running linux from a live image, but that linux also does not list my HDD when i use GParted to check.
I also tried doing a fresh installation from my Windows 8 DVD but when it asks for location to install Windows to, it does not show any drive!.

My Lenovo G580 laptop won't start up. When I turn it on using the power button it goes straight to boot menu/app menu. There are various options there to choose from, but whichever one I choose, it keeps going back to boot menu. I've tried using the novo button, but it still doesn't work. Whatever I choose from the novo button screen, except "BIOS setup", keeps taking me back to the boot menu. My laptop won't start up.

My wife has a new Asus X750j Laptop.
I've spent the last day and a half setting it up.Now I want to make a system image of the C: drive using Paragon.
I do this from a bootable DVD, but it isn't set to boot to the DVD first in the boot order.
I've tried tapping the F11, F8, Del, Esc and F2 keys and it just boots into Windows 8.
My computer which has an ASUS motherboard, shows a message when I boot, saying select "Delete" to boot into the UEFI Bios.
But I can't seem to get either a boot menu of the bios option on the laptop.

I swapped out a HDD in a samsung NP355E5C-A01AU laptop which i cloned all the recovery partitions from the original to the new HDD. Its a windows 8 partition and everything seems to be there but the laptop wont boot from it at all, it just goes into bios. I did get it to try and read from the recovery partition but get a "MBR error 1" when it tries to boot from it. I used aronis disk director 11 to do the cloning if that works. Also the original HDD was a GPT partition and thats wat i have formatted the drive as. Ive done some reading and acronis can be difficult when cloning recovery partitions and it will give u this MBR error.

I have just bought a Toshiba Satellite laptop. Before installing everything I wanted to partition the hard drive, for various reasons. To do so, I installed EASUS Pro. (Have used that many, many times on my W7 PC without a problem.) Anyway, it went away to resize the boot partition and now I can't do a !@#%$ing thing. The laptop boots to a 0xc0000225 error screen, and that's it. I entered the UEFI Firmware Settings, and managed to firstly change the fn keys to standard (YAY!) but I CANNOT use the F10 key to save the boot priority to CD/DVD or anything else, so I have nowhere to go from there.

I have a samsung laptop. I turn it on and I can see the bios screen. After that, the screen just goes black and stays that way and doesn't boot. I am able to get into BIOS and I can see all bootable options. I am not able to get into recovery settings or the advanced boot menu.
I burned my Windows 8 iso to my flash drive and plugged it into the computer. I tried automatic repair with it and that didn't fix it. I tried doing a system restore, but it failed saying "System Restore failed while copying the registry from the restore point. The registry in the restore point was damaged and could not be restored." The computer was working during that restore point that. I will try another one though.
It appears that something is corrupt within Windows, but I'm not sure exactly what. I can issue the command in command line, since I can boot to my flash drive, but I'm not sure what files I need to fix or if I'm correct.
