Browsers/Mail :: IE11 Closing Webpage Stops Download But Can Resume
Jul 30, 2014IE11 seems to have a strange "Feature". When you close a Web site with an active download the whole thing closes and the download disappears -- IE 11 shows no windows open.
However press CTRL+J and you'll see the download lists again. If there's no activity press PAUSE and then press RESUME and then it should continue from where it stopped.
To some this might seem obvious but I've seen people re-start a 2hr download because they thought they had lost their currently active download when they accidentally closed the web site.

Apr 23, 2014On booting up 8.1, lenovo z410, the first few attempts to use IE11 from the desktop fail. "cannot open page". Connection troubleshooter produces nothing.
go to APPS > IE and it works fine.
After using chrome and the tile app for awhile, IE11-Desktop will gain coherency and start working. Is there a way to reinstall the desktop side?
this is a clean install with little/nothing loaded on it, about to be deployed for real work so its important.
Moving Program Icon From Desktop Back To Programs List
Dec 4, 2012I found a way to get my list of programs on to the tool/task bar. From there I dragged one of the programs to the desktop thinking it would just create a shortcut. It didn't. It took the program off the dropdown list and put it on the desktop. I can't find a way to put it back in the drop down list of programs. I realize it's not earth shattering but it is definitely a huge annoyance to me since I want to have a 'shortcut' on both the programs drop down list and on the desktop.

Network / Sharing :: Remote Desktop Into Win 8 From Win 7 Does Not Work
Sep 15, 2014Potential client running Windows 8.0 (trying to avoid 8.1) Pavilion g6
Potential host running Win7 pro (fully updated) and the same desktop is the host of the wifi I'm using.
So far working:
-Remote desktop from Windows 8 into win7 (wireless).
-Folder sharing both ways (no homegroup, but direct sharing) (wireless).
Allthough, while uploading from Win7 into Windows 8 it occassionally looses connection, failing upload. However downloading same files from Windows 8 using same network works flawless. Also again using win7 sometimes doesn't find folders until using premade shortcuts. Maybe relevant, or not.
Problem: While trying to use Remote Desktop from Win7 desktop into Windows 8 Pavilion laptop I get that "...one of these reasons" error.
This while rightclicking on the Windows 8 pc in the win7 view of the network (choosing remote desktop option), so I know that the name is spelled right, it's in the network!!!
So far tried: Setting up Windows 8 to receive remote desktop as given here in these forums, allthough while on
SystemProperties-->Remote-->Advanced I do NOT get the remote desktop menu view, only Remote Assistant settings with hour setup and such.
Tried to connect:
-Both firewalls down, also client Avast down.
-From the network with right mouse click.
-Manually inputting the computer name into Remote Desktop
These PC's are not on the same WIFI, only same network. I Don't know how to get the network host into it's own wifi network. For example, I can't get my iPhone to connect wireless into iTunes because they are not connected into the same wifi, only Windows 8 is "connected" in the wifi, win7 is "merely" sending it, at least that's how I've understood the problem why I must upload/download stuff with manual wire connection with my phone.
Windows 8.1 Desktop Shortcut Icons Don't Work?
Apr 3, 2014I'm installing all my programs on Windows 8.1 and I'm finding that most of my desktop shortcuts will give me an error whenever I try to run them. Every time a program creates a desktop shortcut the icon changes to this default icon. One thing to note is I have changed the default program files destination folder to my HDD D drive and also kept a SSD C drive program files folder. However no matter what drive I select to install it gives me an error "path is not specified".

Oct 2, 2013I tried to adjust the double click speed but it has no effect.
Any icon on desktop doesn't open until the third click. Once i am in my computer double clicking works fine, the issue only occurs on desktop.
I suspect it is related to some program but i don't know which. Other domain users on the computer do not suffer from this problem.
I tried disabling lots of things from startup like babylon, ashampoo hdd control, bwmeter, desktop 8gadgets but it didn't work.
I don't know when this problem started to occur.
Earlier i installed mcos lion transformation pack and uninstalled it. It had caused notifications not to come on office 2013.
Apps / Software :: Desktop Shortcuts No Longer Work After 8.1 Upgrade
Jan 19, 2014My problem is ever since I installed windows 8.1 upgrade my desktop short cuts no longer work. Not even the ones under the new start button. I have to manually go into the programs folder, find the program I want to use and launch it from there. Every time I attempt to launch it through the start button or the desk top my win zip program pops up like it wants to unzip it. It never did this until I I upgraded to 8.1 I wished now I would of made a restore point before upgrading so I could get rid of this god awful 8.1. It has my PC totally messed up in trying to launch programs now.
Also, I suspect the new skydrive has something to do with it since the skydrive folder opens after the win zip program pop's up. I never used skydrive before and to be honest I really don't like it nor do I want it. I feel like it got shoved onto me.
The images shows what happens when I try to access something from the new start button, but I get the same problem if I have a desk top short cut. Surprizingly the control pannel and windows defender still works on the desk top, it's the only thing that does.

I had the pagefile disabled on my ssd and recently enabled it again to catch the dump file if I BSOD again and I just did. Attached is the SF Diagnostic file with the relevant information.

Mar 30, 2014My Sony Vaio Tap 11 (model: SVT1121C5E) runs very unstable ever since I bought it about 3 months ago. Almost every day the system crashes, sometimes multiple times. Sometimes with prior bluescreen, Windows colleting data and then stopping at 100%.
Occasionally the device shuts down and automatically restarts.Sometimes the screen becomes black and the device can be turned off only by holding the power-button for a few seconds.
I'm running Windows 8.1 and all the current device-drivers, bios-update and Windows-updates are installed.
The event-viewer has some "Event41, Kernel-Power" entries in the category "critical such as following:

Each time the OS was fully installed from scratch.
I have the latest BIOS from ASUS as well as all latest drivers I could find.
Debugging :: Frequent BSOD Without Dump Files - SSD Not Found?
Apr 28, 2014I bought my Sony VAIO flip on 12 Feb this year. At the beginning of April it started frequently crashing (a few times a day when using it on my commute and in the evening). It (almost) always crashes with a BSOD, but no error code, and no crash dump generated. About a quarter of the time, upon restarting from the crash, its says "Couldn't start Windows. Internal SSD not found". I'd keep restarting it and it would fail to start with the same error. If I leave it for a while (30 mins+), it restarts fine, until the next crash.
Given the 'SSD not found' errors, I had assumed it was a hardware fault with the drive failing intermittently. This would also explain the lack of crash dumps if the drive had issues and Windows couldn't write to it. However, I've read around and found some SSDs displaying this behaviour after a crash due to unexpected power loss to the drive, so I'm now wondering if this is a symptom not a cause.
Furthermore, windows restore does show windows updated some drivers at the beginning of April when the crashes started.
I did have one crash with and error code and a dump (24th April) but this is the exception. From the event log (occurrences of id 41 "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first") I can see crashes a few times a day every day I've used the computer in April:

I've tried cloning the hard drive to an external one and booting from that to eliminate issues with the internal hard drive but I can't really get that to work.

Sep 29, 2013I've had a HP Envy m6 laptop for a while now with windows 8 pro and I've noticed that i'm getting very frequent BSOD (Can't be virus since I have Bitdefender). It seems as though they occur 95% of the time while I play the game League of Legends.
I checked out my dump files using BlueScreenView and noticed that i'm getting a variety of errors (REFERENCE_BY_POINTER, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA, ATTEMPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY, KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED) caused by a variety of drivers (iaStorA.sys, tcpip.sys, ntoskrnl.exe).

Apr 1, 2013My windows 8 computer keeps on restarting many times without much gap, and inturn it leaves me a error code before it restarts, and the error code is 0x0000005D. For the first time in a day, the computer works properly for an hour or less, then it restarts continuously by showing that error message. Am unable to fix this because my computer won't stay for a longer time to check out the issue, I have less than a hour to check and solve the problem, so a solution to fix this kind of errors.

Jun 24, 2014I get frequent BSODs, AMD driver crashes, screen display errors, game crashes, running Windows 8.1 on my AMD A10-5700 APU w/ 8GB RAM. Videos in browsers (firefox, IE, and/or chrome) are common culprits, as are running certain games (recently, GTA IV). Sometimes the BSODs and driver crashes are repeatable (loading certain games or certain web sites). As far as I know, this has happened since day 1 with this computer (refurb from Lenovo), though the frequency waxes and wanes.
Can sometimes make games work better by reducing graphics settings.
Have tried refreshing windows; the ~30 .dmp files in the diagnostic report are since I did that, less than a month ago.
Have tried removing and reinstalling AMD catalyst drivers.
Have tried removing RAM sticks one at a time, but still get the same problems. Windows Memory Diagnostic did not detect any errors.
