Debugging :: BSOD While System Was Unattended
Jan 16, 2014
I ran into a BSOD while the system was unattended. I used Who Crashed and got the following information. Unfortunately I realize that may be difficult as I cannot include all of the files you typically request(only the minidump is attached) ...
Here is the info from Who Crashed:
This was probably caused by the following module: win32k.sys (win32k!NtUserGetDC+0x24)
Bugcheck code:
0x50 (0xFFFFF960000E1008, 0x8, 0xFFFFF960000E1008, 0x7)
Error: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
file path:
C:WINDOWSsystem32win32k.sys
product: Microsoft Windows Operating System
Company: Microsoft Corporation
Description: Multi-User Win32
Driver
Bug check description: This indicates that invalid system memory has been referenced. This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem. The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module. Your system configuration may be incorrect. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver on your system that cannot be identified at this time.
There haven't been any hardware changes or software installs for many months now. Scanning (SFC, CHkDKS) did not reveal any errors.

Mini dump files.
Computer specs:
Motherboard: Gigabyte z77x-ud3h
i7 3770k, never overclocked running stock
16GB crucial ballistix 4x4GB
EVGA Nvidia Geforce GTX570 HD
Antec high current 750w gamer PSU
Problem: My computer crashes randomly, sometimes while I'm working, sometimes while I'm away from the computer, there doesn't seem to be a pattern. Oddly enough, windows 8.0 ran just fine and never crashed. Windows 8.1 seems to crash much more frequently, and either blue screen or just lock up and reboot with no blue screen.
Suspected potential problem: When upgrading to windows 8.1, in order to get my very old cisco VPN client working, I had to install a citrix DNE (deterministic network) driver. I'm guessing it could be related to this and the old cisco client, though I have unchecked DNE on the network adapter and I have still had crashes, even with it unchecked/disabled in theory.

I am facing a BSOD every time my new ASUS laptop running Windows 8.1 goes to Sleep and I try to wake it up. The BSOD displays the error message Driver_Power_State_Failure. I have attached the files from the SF diagnostic tool.

I've been having the BSOD Issue for a week or two now. It takes forever to boot and then it gives me a blue screen with the Error Driver_Power_State_Failure. I tried going back restore points...that dint work.
I also tried Refreshing and Resetting the PC using those settings on Windows...Still same issues...And also because of this...my system is becoming very slow now as well.

I recently put together this computer from parts piece by piece. Unfortunately all these problems started on a particularly large upgrade including new motherboard, processor, heatsink, ram and gpu. So I'm not sure exactly what is causing this problem. Sometimes when I start up I get a BSOD, often a random cause, I've never seen any consistency. And that can cause up to 3-4 BSOD's in a row on boot up until eventually a system repair is attempted, which has to perform a system restore. After the system restore I get another one or two crashes before I am able to keep my computer on. Then a couple of days later, I might suffer the same bizarre chain again.

I've been getting blue screens of death infrequently, attached to my PC randomly losing power and hard freezes. I used to ignore it (used to get it rarely in BF4 a while ago, and often in Star-Citizen), but with things like LoL or Diablo 3, it doesn't ever happen.
Now i've been playing ArcheAge it's been happening alot, I purged my ATI drivers (was getting an AODDriver registry issue showing up with Event Viewer) with uninstall and the reg-edit clean. Then installed the most recent build and used CC cleaner to clean out a whole lot of issues it found. The random shutdowns and freezes seemed to have stopped, but I've still been getting the System_Service_Exception BSOD a few times a night of constant play.
I have a bad suspicion with the freezes / shutdowns it's a HDD issue or a power supply issue, but after the driver clean i've only been getting BSODs so far (as the oldest parts of my PC is my 5+ year old Corsair 620W and my HDDs that now are sitting loose as my 280x is too wide for the case(getting a 750D and a SSD for boot soon hopefully, then PSU later).
Still getting freezes. I think the attached ZIP is what i need to attach, I accidentally ran it twice not realising the folder where it put the dump.

It is just a matter of time before the system crashes. Sometimes I can play a whole evening without a crash, sometimes it crashes every 5 minutes. It does not seem to coincide with what happens in the game and it can be an old game with minimum graphics or something else on max, the crash is the same. As it crashes, screen goes black, it generates a hum on the speakers, and all I can do is to push the power button until it shuts off the power. Another problem is that there is NO dump file whatsoever. Minidump settings are all validated, but no dump gets created. I hope the SF debug Tool is enough.

So a few nights ago I was on my computer. The power randomly went out in my neighborhood without warning despite the fact a storm wasn't present. I restart the computer and continue. Later that night I receive a BSOD Kernel System Check Failure and have to restart again. Now 3 days later, it does the same thing once a day. Except today was different. After my third blue screen I opened up chrome to research the matter when a message popped up to inform me that my chrome settings had become corrupted. This makes me worry that this has its roots in the bowels of my system's memory.
These are the files that windows suggested I send to microsoft:
c:windowsminidump-60414-17484-01.dmp
c:usersmasonAppDatalocalTempWER-61359-0.sysdata.xml
c:windowsmemory.DMP
I know you can't do too much with these, but I thought it might serve some purpose.

So basically my system is crashing at seemingly random points (games, desktop, programs...anytime) even though the system appears to be ok.
I've updated all drivers, ran memtest, even ran prime95 (was oc'ing recently but the crashes were happening before that) and everything checks out.
My rig is as follows: Windows 8.1 ProAsus Crosshair V Formula (latest bios)16gb CMX8GX3M2A2000C9 XMS3 (4x 4GB, running at 2071mhz)AMD HD7970AMD FX8150 (oc'd to 4.2ghz)2x OCZ Agility 3's in Raid0
This crash has happened a few times before the overclock as well as after, previous to installing 8.1 (upgraded from 8) the overclock was running stable for nearly 3 months. I rarely go over 60c and have been able to run prime95 for long periods of time during testing it without problems, as I said the crash happens at stock speeds too! So in short I don't think its related to the OC.
I have windows set to a minidump but when the crash happens I don't get the BSOD screen but rather just a screen in a random colour.

I was scanning my computer for virus's 2 days ago when the computer locked up. So I shut it down and restarted it. I got a BSOD saying NTFS_FILESYSTEM. I restarted the computer and same error. I then loaded up Parted Magic to run Clam AV and started that but when I went to look at the program Parted Magic I noticed that my EFI System Partition has no file system and is blackened out. I do have a Acronis backup unforturnatly it's 3 month's old but it's better than nothing. I also have tried using a Windows Recovery thumb drive to fix the startup issue. I chose the "Fix Startup Issues" option and it started to do something and said it would take hours but then all the sudden it restarted and when I tried to run the Startup fixer it said it couldnt do anything about it. Is there a way to rebuild that EFI System Partition? I would like to fix it but at least anything I use Parted Magic to get my personal documents and things onto a external drive for a backup and then do a fresh install.

My Msi Ge70 2oe is 5 moths old and i got several BSODs since purchase. I updated most drivers in April, still got 6xBSOD this month. Most of them System_Service_Exception and addressing ntoskrnl.exe+59769. idk what that means, think have some really bad drivers it happens mostly using chrome.
Using manufacturers Live update 5 to update, although not installed some optional like norton internet security. Checked memtest and windows memory test programs, nothing unusual.

I used to blue screen whenever I start up my laptop; could only start it through safe mode. I had a ton of errors trying to reinstall Windows, but then eventually did it. Anyway, Why I was blue screening. I was setting up everything and downloading things I wanted (after resetting Windows and deleting almost everything), when *SEEMINGLY* out of nowhere, I would blue screen. After a couple of blue screens, I noticed it was only when opening Skype. Turns out this was why I was blue screening ages ago when opening my laptop. Anyway, I want to fix this. More detail would be this: I click on Skype, blue screen with something to do with "System service exception ks.sys"
I need Skype to communicate with friends and family.

I am the same person who posted a thread about needing drivers for Windows 7 after dual booting it with my preinstalled copy of Windows 8. So, I was on Windows 7 today, and my screen randomly blinked on and off for 5 seconds, and then came up with a message saying my system display driver crashed but had recovered. Then, about a minute later, it crashed again and came up with a BSOD saying that the display driver had crashed but failed to recover. I do not have the error code from it, as I only saw this screen once, and forgot to copy down the codde because I got freaked out But anyways, I have copied the system report to this post from the Seven Forums System Tool. I am currently running in safe mode on my Windows 7.

Today when I played my favorite game ( entropia universe), I got a message from my game saying that I have low ram, I checked on the Ctrl alt del thing and I was shocked that only 3.8 gb ram was usable when i have 8 gb ram and using 64 bit system. So here comes to my first question... Why would this happen?
So I happened to follow a tutorial and turned on the maximum ram checkbox in the advanced settings in boot tab in msconfig. However when I first reboot I got the session 3 initialisation failed BSOD. The second time and third time and so on and so forth I got bad system config info, which turned my computer into a reboot loop. Second question, why would this happen?
My experience similar to this unlucky fellow : Win 8 BSOD : BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO (Details available)SOS
so I followed the guide in the thread and tried to recreate my BCD. I successfully got into the advanced setup options ( I think it is called this ?) by pressing shift +f8.
However I still failed as I was locked there. Every option including opening the command prompt is blocked because it said that operating these options needed administrative rights which I have in my hands. However the ASO said that it can't find any administrative accounts in my computer. Third question , why would this happen?
So now my computer fell into another loop. Whenever I started my computer it went into the ASO and wouldn't get away from it. And can't even see the lovely face in BSOD.
I am am using windows 8.1 in amd fx 8150 and 8 gb ram, computer was somehow normal with occasional freezing ( 1-2 times a month ).

I just updated my Nvidea graphics card, and for some reason after restarting my laptop, in order to install these files to the system, the "System Thread Exception Not Handled" Blue screen error flashed on my screen, and later redirected me to an automatic repair screen, which attempted to fix this issue.
I ended up restarting the laptop on safe mode, uninstall my Nvidea graphics card and completely reinstall it from scratch. But for some reason it keeps giving me the same error each time I restart my laptop. After some research online, apparently there's an issue with Avast and Nvidea?
You will find attached the SF Diagnostic Tool grab all option files needed to view the issue at hand. Many are saying that I've not been installing the corrent drivers, but that's not possible, as it's directly from the MSI website (GT70 0NE) linked to the official Nvidea website, saying that the driver includes my graphics card (680M).
While other people are saying that maybe Avast is causing some issue towards the graphics card?I have the Avast 2014 Professional Antivirus.
Laptop Specs:
Windows 8.1
MSI Dragon Edition 2, GT70 0NE, Intel Core i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40 GHz 64 bit
NVIDIA GeForce GTX680M
Intel HD Graphics 4000
I'm currently running my laptop without the nVidea Graphics Card Drivers, and seems to be fine so far.

If I leave my Windows 8.1 PC unattended for even a short while, I find I have to push reset button to get it going again. The taskbar experiences changes in that desktop apps will not work, whereas metro apps will work. The only solution I've found so far is the reset button. This occurs often during any given day.

My employer is starting to look at Windows 8 for our tablet PCs. Currently we only have 1 model, its the Dell Latitude ST and are using Windows 7 on them. I am trying to create and customize an automated install of Windows 8 for our Latitude ST's.
I've used MDT to capture a Windows 8 Enterprise 32bit image and can image Latitude tablet from thumb drive just fine. In image I copied (not installed) driver files to my WIM file. My unattend.xml file works fine, am not getting any prompts once booting into image on my Latitude ST's.
The problem I am having is Windows Setup is not installing any Latitude device drivers. I copied the device drivers to C:WindowsINFLatitudeST folder and in it is a folder for each device (i.e. Network folder contains all driver files for NIC). I see in the registry that the device path is set to %systemroot%INF so I think I have correct location for parking the driver files. I'm assuming that Windows 8 will search all files/folders in C:WindowsINF for correct INF file. I even tried copying the actual network driver files to C:WindowsINF thinking the system should see it and then install drivers (incase it didn't search for sub folders). To make sure I have Windows 8 supported drives, I downloaded latest driver and still don't work. Everything I try I just cannot get device drivers to install during setup.
Once I am in OS, I can go to device manager, see devices that are unknown, then manually install drivers pointing to the C:WindowsINFLatitudeST folder. Manually works, automated don't.
On Windows 7 Pro 32bit OS, I don't have a problem. The Windows Setup will search C:WindowsINF and find all the correct device drivers for the Latitude ST tablet and install them during setup.
Why cannot I get drivers to install during setup?

I've had my Sony Laptop for under a year now, and it was working alright (with the occasional problem such as BSODs), but today after having hibernated the computer (never shutting down/restarting) for a month (because I went on holiday), I finally was forced to shut down by Windows update. However, when I booted up again, it signed me into a temporary user account. This had happened to me before, so I didn't think much of it, I tried to do a system restore, but came up with the error: 0x80070005. I tried different restore points, but they all yielded the same results.
Then I tried doing an sfc /scannow, which said nothing was wrong. I also scheduled a chkdsk /f/r for boot. Unfortunately it got stuck on 28% for over an hour. So I turned the computer off. When I turned it back on, I was unable to sign in: "The user profile service failed the sign in user profile cannot be loaded". So I restarted the computer. This is where it got really bad.
As soon as the computer boots up, it shows the loading signal then instantly goes to the Windows 8 BSOD saying that there was a problem with NTFS File System.
Now each time I boot up, it does the exact same thing. What do I do?? I haven't had this laptop for long. The laptop is still under warranty, am I able to get it fixed under warranty.

I am just built a new pc and installed and updated all drivers properly. But it keeps crushing and most common bsod is "Ntfs_File_System" and "Service_Exception_Not_Handled". I searched almost all of similar forum post and i still get bsod's. İ have tried to run Memtest86 and it couldnt find any error in rams. Sometimes data corruption occured in my several files and i have ran HD TUNE to find any bad sector but it was ok too. I have done all i can and it still crushes 2-3 times a day.
About system:
Windows 8.1
Asus p9x79 motherboard
Asus Gtx770 o.c. graphic card
Intel i7 4820k processor
I couldn't attach my minidump files so i have uploaded them: [URL] ....

A couple months ago I put together a new computer with these specs: Asus M5A99FX MotherboardAMD FX-4300 3.8Ghz Quad Core CPU8GB Corsair Dominator RAMThermaltake TR2-600 PSUAsus Silent 210 Video CardWindows 8 ProfessionalWestern Digital 1TB Black Hard Drive
It seemed to work fine for the first month and then suddenly every day or two it would throw a BSOD and not always the same one. The various BSOD stop codes have been 0x00000139, 0x0000001a, 0x00000019, 0x00000001, 0x0000000a and as far as I can tell no one happens more than any other. Also not only BSOD's but I've seen a number of disk related errors as well:A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume C:.
A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume Boot The driver detected a controller error on DeviceHarddisk1DR1 I believe that the BSOD's preceded the start of the disk related errors. Various things that I've tried to identify a hardware problem: Ran Seagate Seatools both short and long test and the hard drives passes bothRan Memtest86+ for a full day with no errorsUpdated the Catalyst chipset drivers from the version on the driver cd to the latest available from the AMD websiteSwapped the Thermaltake PSU for a Corsair PSU
I've put together four AMD based machines in the last four months with various Asus motherboards and mostly similar specs, the first three have Windows 7 Pro installed and work perfectly but this fourth one nothing I've done has made any difference and I can't find a hardware based problem although I suppose there's always a chance it's a bad CPU or motherboard. If that's the case how would I know that and which part it is?

I have (perhaps I should say had) a multi-boot system. Originally I installed my 6 Windows OS's and then installed my two favorite Linux distros. I like the ability to customize the Grub menu which Linux gives me. Unfortunately Grub did not detect all 6 of my Windows installations but one of the boot options it did detect took me back into my original Windows menu which showed all 6 of the Windows systems. So that's the setup which I have been using successfully for the past few months. (One boot menu which boots into another). Today my Windows boot menu has become unusable and probably corrupt. At first I had the problem that I was only able to boot into Windows 8.1 (no windows menu at all). Then I used EasyBCD which I had inside Windows 8.1 At first EasyBCD indicated an inability to load any boot file at all. Subsequently after rebooting into 8.1 a few times more I tried it again. It then showed a boot menu but with only Windows 8.1 listed. I subsequently was able to use the add operating system function to add all the other Windows systems again. I then clicked save to save the new configuration.
Now I do see all six Windows systems at boot but neither of them, even Windows 8.1 will boot. Where I should start to get back into one of these six Windows operating systems so that I can possible use the EasyBCD repair function to access the others. I think I had EasyBCD installed inside each Windows OS At the moment I am dependent on Linux alone for Internet access. I trust this is clear. As nothing in Linux has changed, I assume I need to fix the problem from the Windows side of things. I do have that one option when I get into that blue Windows 8 style boot menu to "change options" I thought EasyBCD would have restored the Windows 7 style text boot menu but it did not. Other than that I have the various Windows installation disks and a Win7 repair disk as well as various full partition backups on an external hard drive. What do do about a corrupt bcd file without being inside Windows, and I don't know much about EasyBCD. Would a refresh/reset of Win 8.1 from the install disk be a good way to start? I did get the message of "files missing" when I tried to do a system recovery drive while inside Windows 8.1 today, so there are issues with that OS.

So, yesterday is the first time this has happened. It has never happened before. The first time it happened yesterday, I Was watching some TV shows online, and then I got the PAGE_FAULT(...) error code.
I tried running my Anti_Malware scanner to see if that could pick something up. It crashed again just as it started.
So I tried Advanced SystemCare. Again, same problem.
And it just keeps happening.
I tried refreshing my computer to see if that would do anything, but it crashed during that too.
I ran the SF Diagnostic program and I have the .DMP files (But I can't seem to upload them. Maybe I'm trying to upload the wrong ones, I don't know.)
Anyway, these are the specs of my system. HP ENVY DV-7 7270CA (less than 8 months old) running Windows 8 (as I wasn't able to update to 8.1. I got the 0x80000004 error, or whatever it was. I can't remember exactly), 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM, Intel Core i7 3630QM, NVIDIA GT630M (2GB) GPU, and a 1TB 5400RPM HDD. Don't know what brand, I didn't check.
