Debugging :: BSOD While Starting Up - System Becoming Very Slow

Jun 21, 2014

I've been having the BSOD Issue for a week or two now. It takes forever to boot and then it gives me a blue screen with the Error Driver_Power_State_Failure. I tried going back restore points...that dint work.

I also tried Refreshing and Resetting the PC using those settings on Windows...Still same issues...And also because of this...my system is becoming very slow now as well.

Debugging :: BSOD Preventing 8.1 From Starting Up Appears For Split Second

Apr 10, 2014

Just today, my desktop's been unable to boot into the login screen on Windows 8.1 due to a blue screen that appears for a split second, and forced the PC to restart. Some of this, I think, should be surely linked to the GPU, as it's left me with a black screen and loud fan noise about three of four times today. Each time I've restarted the PC, it's been able to to get back into Windows, though this time it's just giving me a BSOD that I can barely see at all.

What I'm wanting to know is how can I get it to show me the information for me to diagnose it. Could I use a shortcut on the keyboard, or will the information be saved somewhere?

The GPU I have is the XFX 7950 Core Edition.

Debugging :: Windows 8 - BSOD Memory Management Error Starting Up

May 28, 2014

My computer was fine one day then, today when I was just browsing the internet it crashes. The computer restarts and then tells me there was a problem, then when I log in I get nothing but a black screen but my mouse can still move around. sometimes when starting up it takes me to the page and asks what to do. I tried refreshing the pc first and it did nothing. I then started it in safe mode and ran sfc /scannow on command prompt and it told me there were problems but it couldn't solve some of them it gave me something to look up but once again it crashed and restarted before I could read it.

I've had the computer for just over a year and it has always had windows 8.

I seem to keep having random BSOD'S on windows startup showing a Kernal_Security_Check_Failure and in event viewer it is showing as Bug_Check_Code 313, what is causing this.

I also seem to be randomly getting BSOD'S while either exiting/starting a game or loading up Unity (Game engine).

As stated in the instructions above I have used the SF_Diagnostic_Tool and have attached the contents to this post.

Debugging :: BSOD / Very Slow PC When Using ANY Backup Software

Apr 10, 2014

only times that it happens is when using backup software.

I use Paragon Hard Disk Manager 14, and when running backups of drives the system crashes, with errors to ntoskrnl.exe and ntdll.sys. So I tried a couple of other backup software (Acronis True Image and Easeus ToDo Backup) and still the same thing happens. When using the inbuilt Windows 8.1 Image Backup the computer is very slow, cannot do anything else!

Searched my PC for the two files, no sign of ntdll.sys!

I have attached a screen shot of the ntoskrnl.exe files found.

Debugging :: BSOD On Asus S400C - Incredibly Slow / Delayed Start Up

Sep 15, 2014

So last Sunday I woke up grabbed my computer which I had simply closed the night before, nothing unusual and the screen was all black so I just figured it was a random problem and manually shut down. When I powered back on initially I got zero response, just a black screen, no HD activity no fan spinning eventually (anywhere from 5-15 minutes) in a sort of delayed boot action it began booting but it took forever to boot into Windows 8.1 which I upgraded to months ago.

So my question is two-fold, I don't think the BSOD issue is related to the incredibly slow/delayed start up, because this happens before the OS even begins loading if I'm not mistaken.

The first part of my issue are the random BSODs which also started happening for a while I was getting a warning about Intel Rapid Storage that I never bothered to read, and eventually it just went away after I did updates.

But this computer has just randomly shut off while I was using it, not crashed, just lost power.

Debugging :: BSOD While System Was Unattended

Jan 16, 2014

I ran into a BSOD while the system was unattended. I used Who Crashed and got the following information. Unfortunately I realize that may be difficult as I cannot include all of the files you typically request(only the minidump is attached) ...

Here is the info from Who Crashed:

This was probably caused by the following module: win32k.sys (win32k!NtUserGetDC+0x24)

Bugcheck code:
0x50 (0xFFFFF960000E1008, 0x8, 0xFFFFF960000E1008, 0x7)
Error: PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
file path:
C:WINDOWSsystem32win32k.sys
product: Microsoft Windows Operating System
Company: Microsoft Corporation
Description: Multi-User Win32
Driver

Bug check description: This indicates that invalid system memory has been referenced. This appears to be a typical software driver bug and is not likely to be caused by a hardware problem. The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module. Your system configuration may be incorrect. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver on your system that cannot be identified at this time.

There haven't been any hardware changes or software installs for many months now. Scanning (SFC, CHkDKS) did not reveal any errors.

Maintenance :: Samsung Laptop Windows 8 Not Starting After System Restore

Mar 5, 2014

I was on my samsung laptop last night, and I found a folder called "Searches>Indexed locations". I saw it was taking up some space so i went through some of the files seeing that some were Type:Shortcuts. So I deleted them to free up a bit of space thinking "it's only a shortcut, can't harm it". Now some icons are missing from my windows 8 start screen and some programs have become inoperable because of missing files. I tried System restore to bring some of it back, it was going ok, then when it tried to restart, showed the samsung logo, then just blackscreened for 4+ hours. It was on , but blank. Haven't been using the laptop long so I don't really know the specs on it.

It came with no DvD/CD for me to use to format the laptop and I cant get it on to boot it up right for me to format it to begin with.

I atleast do know the graphics card was an AMD Radeon HD 7460

Can't seem to access Bios either.

One thing I forgot to mention which might have something to do with it, is I was using a custom windows 8 theme, because microsoft, being as stingy as they are, from what i assume does not enable you to have your own theme, so I had something called the "ribbon disabler and UXTheme Cracker" to use a custom windows 8 theme.

Debugging :: Many BSOD On Boot Up Followed By System Restore

Sep 12, 2013

I recently put together this computer from parts piece by piece. Unfortunately all these problems started on a particularly large upgrade including new motherboard, processor, heatsink, ram and gpu. So I'm not sure exactly what is causing this problem. Sometimes when I start up I get a BSOD, often a random cause, I've never seen any consistency. And that can cause up to 3-4 BSOD's in a row on boot up until eventually a system repair is attempted, which has to perform a system restore. After the system restore I get another one or two crashes before I am able to keep my computer on. Then a couple of days later, I might suffer the same bizarre chain again.

Debugging :: BSOD Daily - System Service Exception

Sep 15, 2014

I've been getting blue screens of death infrequently, attached to my PC randomly losing power and hard freezes. I used to ignore it (used to get it rarely in BF4 a while ago, and often in Star-Citizen), but with things like LoL or Diablo 3, it doesn't ever happen.

Now i've been playing ArcheAge it's been happening alot, I purged my ATI drivers (was getting an AODDriver registry issue showing up with Event Viewer) with uninstall and the reg-edit clean. Then installed the most recent build and used CC cleaner to clean out a whole lot of issues it found. The random shutdowns and freezes seemed to have stopped, but I've still been getting the System_Service_Exception BSOD a few times a night of constant play.

I have a bad suspicion with the freezes / shutdowns it's a HDD issue or a power supply issue, but after the driver clean i've only been getting BSODs so far (as the oldest parts of my PC is my 5+ year old Corsair 620W and my HDDs that now are sitting loose as my 280x is too wide for the case(getting a 750D and a SSD for boot soon hopefully, then PSU later).

Still getting freezes. I think the attached ZIP is what i need to attach, I accidentally ran it twice not realising the folder where it put the dump.

Debugging :: Random BSOD While Gaming - System Crashes

Jul 28, 2014

It is just a matter of time before the system crashes. Sometimes I can play a whole evening without a crash, sometimes it crashes every 5 minutes. It does not seem to coincide with what happens in the game and it can be an old game with minimum graphics or something else on max, the crash is the same. As it crashes, screen goes black, it generates a hum on the speakers, and all I can do is to push the power button until it shuts off the power. Another problem is that there is NO dump file whatsoever. Minidump settings are all validated, but no dump gets created. I hope the SF debug Tool is enough.

Debugging :: BSOD Every Day / Kernel System Check Failure

Jun 4, 2014

So a few nights ago I was on my computer. The power randomly went out in my neighborhood without warning despite the fact a storm wasn't present. I restart the computer and continue. Later that night I receive a BSOD Kernel System Check Failure and have to restart again. Now 3 days later, it does the same thing once a day. Except today was different. After my third blue screen I opened up chrome to research the matter when a message popped up to inform me that my chrome settings had become corrupted. This makes me worry that this has its roots in the bowels of my system's memory.

These are the files that windows suggested I send to microsoft:

c:windowsminidump-60414-17484-01.dmp
c:usersmasonAppDatalocalTempWER-61359-0.sysdata.xml
c:windowsmemory.DMP

I know you can't do too much with these, but I thought it might serve some purpose.

Debugging :: Seemingly Random System Crashes No BSOD Just Colour

Dec 5, 2013

So basically my system is crashing at seemingly random points (games, desktop, programs...anytime) even though the system appears to be ok.

I've updated all drivers, ran memtest, even ran prime95 (was oc'ing recently but the crashes were happening before that) and everything checks out.

My rig is as follows: Windows 8.1 ProAsus Crosshair V Formula (latest bios)16gb CMX8GX3M2A2000C9 XMS3 (4x 4GB, running at 2071mhz)AMD HD7970AMD FX8150 (oc'd to 4.2ghz)2x OCZ Agility 3's in Raid0

This crash has happened a few times before the overclock as well as after, previous to installing 8.1 (upgraded from 8) the overclock was running stable for nearly 3 months. I rarely go over 60c and have been able to run prime95 for long periods of time during testing it without problems, as I said the crash happens at stock speeds too! So in short I don't think its related to the OC.

I have windows set to a minidump but when the crash happens I don't get the BSOD screen but rather just a screen in a random colour.

Debugging :: BSOD Scanning Computer For Virus Now EFI File System Gone?

May 15, 2014

I was scanning my computer for virus's 2 days ago when the computer locked up. So I shut it down and restarted it. I got a BSOD saying NTFS_FILESYSTEM. I restarted the computer and same error. I then loaded up Parted Magic to run Clam AV and started that but when I went to look at the program Parted Magic I noticed that my EFI System Partition has no file system and is blackened out. I do have a Acronis backup unforturnatly it's 3 month's old but it's better than nothing. I also have tried using a Windows Recovery thumb drive to fix the startup issue. I chose the "Fix Startup Issues" option and it started to do something and said it would take hours but then all the sudden it restarted and when I tried to run the Startup fixer it said it couldnt do anything about it. Is there a way to rebuild that EFI System Partition? I would like to fix it but at least anything I use Parted Magic to get my personal documents and things onto a external drive for a backup and then do a fresh install.

Debugging :: System Crash / BSoD - Dual Boot Running Windows 7 And 8

May 6, 2014

I am the same person who posted a thread about needing drivers for Windows 7 after dual booting it with my preinstalled copy of Windows 8. So, I was on Windows 7 today, and my screen randomly blinked on and off for 5 seconds, and then came up with a message saying my system display driver crashed but had recovered. Then, about a minute later, it crashed again and came up with a BSOD saying that the display driver had crashed but failed to recover. I do not have the error code from it, as I only saw this screen once, and forgot to copy down the codde because I got freaked out But anyways, I have copied the system report to this post from the Seven Forums System Tool. Debugging :: Bad System Config Info - BSOD After Changing Boot Settings

Feb 16, 2014

Today when I played my favorite game ( entropia universe), I got a message from my game saying that I have low ram, I checked on the Ctrl alt del thing and I was shocked that only 3.8 gb ram was usable when i have 8 gb ram and using 64 bit system. So here comes to my first question... Why would this happen?

So I happened to follow a tutorial and turned on the maximum ram checkbox in the advanced settings in boot tab in msconfig. However when I first reboot I got the session 3 initialisation failed BSOD. The second time and third time and so on and so forth I got bad system config info, which turned my computer into a reboot loop. Second question, why would this happen?

My experience similar to this unlucky fellow : Win 8 BSOD : BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO (Details available)SOS

so I followed the guide in the thread and tried to recreate my BCD. I successfully got into the advanced setup options ( I think it is called this ?) by pressing shift +f8.

However I still failed as I was locked there. Every option including opening the command prompt is blocked because it said that operating these options needed administrative rights which I have in my hands. However the ASO said that it can't find any administrative accounts in my computer. Third question , why would this happen?

So now my computer fell into another loop. Whenever I started my computer it went into the ASO and wouldn't get away from it. And can't even see the lovely face in BSOD.

I am am using windows 8.1 in amd fx 8150 and 8 gb ram, computer was somehow normal with occasional freezing ( 1-2 times a month ).

Debugging :: BSOD System Thread Exception Not Handled Error / Nvidea Card?

Aug 12, 2014

I just updated my Nvidea graphics card, and for some reason after restarting my laptop, in order to install these files to the system, the "System Thread Exception Not Handled" Blue screen error flashed on my screen, and later redirected me to an automatic repair screen, which attempted to fix this issue.

I ended up restarting the laptop on safe mode, uninstall my Nvidea graphics card and completely reinstall it from scratch. But for some reason it keeps giving me the same error each time I restart my laptop. After some research online, apparently there's an issue with Avast and Nvidea?

You will find attached the SF Diagnostic Tool grab all option files needed to view the issue at hand. Many are saying that I've not been installing the corrent drivers, but that's not possible, as it's directly from the MSI website (GT70 0NE) linked to the official Nvidea website, saying that the driver includes my graphics card (680M).

While other people are saying that maybe Avast is causing some issue towards the graphics card?I have the Avast 2014 Professional Antivirus.

Laptop Specs:
Windows 8.1
MSI Dragon Edition 2, GT70 0NE, Intel Core i7-3630QM CPU @ 2.40 GHz 64 bit
NVIDIA GeForce GTX680M
Intel HD Graphics 4000

I'm currently running my laptop without the nVidea Graphics Card Drivers, and seems to be fine so far.

Maintenance :: System Running Very Slow Even After Reinstalling Windows

May 14, 2014

Over a month ago, I noticed that my system had started to become very slow, taking a long time to switch between apps, or between tabs in Chrome (even with only a few tabs open).

I've constantly had Resource Monitor open to try and track down the source of the problem. Initially, I thought this was a problem with Chrome or my pagefile, because Chrome was often at/near the top of Disk Activity, manipulating pagefile.sys. However, it seems like the amount of data being manipulated isn't very large; typically well below 1 MB/sec. I tried moving my pagefile to a secondary hard drive to no effect.

I've downloaded and run multiple programs to check hard drive health, and none of them have found any problems. I'm not talking about simple S.M.A.R.T. diagnostics, but in-depth scans.

Thinking that it might be a problem with Windows 7 at the time, I wiped the drive and installed Windows 8.1. I installed the latest motherboard drivers and disabled Windows search and file indexing. The problem remains. The fact that the problem persists after wiping the drive had me thinking it's likely a hardware problem. Alas, various hard drive scanners haven't found a problem.

I have 8GB of memory; rarely is more than 4GB ever in use. Both of my hard drives have plenty of free space (400+ GB each).

Windows 8 Very Slow To Access Files - Green Ribbon Of Slow Death

Dec 16, 2012

I have just built a new computer and Installed Win8. The motherboard, processor, and system drive are all brand new Intel stuff; the media drive is a new Seagate. Programs get up and running just fine, but I have transferred my files over from my old xp machine, and Win Explorer is very slow to access them.

I'll open a folder, and more often than not the thumbs will not be there; I'll then try to open or preview a file and I'll get the green progress bar over the address bar. This will often take up to a minute or more to run, and if I leave it be then the icons will usually appear and the files will then be accessible. If I try to open or preview a file before it's done things lock up on me.

After navigating away from that folder and allowing some time to pass however, the thumbs dissapear again and I am back to square one. sometimes the thumbs will reappear all on their own. this seems to be an issue whether we're talking large files or small, or folders with 100's of files or as few as 8. The very same files are instantly accessible by the new comp from the original locations on my external USB drive and on my xp machine over the network. Once they are copied to the new machine is when things get bogged down. This seems to be the case both on the system drive and the media drive.

Furthermore, right from the very beginning, I've had icons disappearing and reappearing from my start menu apps page.

I have tried the following to resolve the problem:

- I have optimized the folders in question for both the types of media therein, and back to "General Items" again

- I have disabled indexing both on the drives themselves and in the libraries control panel

- I have run a full system virus scan with Bit Defender

- I have contacted Windows support and they have run a scan that showed Windows itself to be working properly

One thing that occures to me is the problem seems to be with the SATA drives and the SATA drives only, but if there's something wrong with the mother board wouldn't my programs have trouble opening too?
