Debugging :: BSOD After Coming Out Of Hibernation / 0x0000009f
Jun 3, 2014
I've got a problem - after I turn my notebook Asus M51Va into hybernation and then turn it on, usually (not always) it crashes with BSOD (hal.dll 0x0000009f). When I start system after turning it off - loading of Windows never ends with BSOD and everything is ok.

I have had many BSOD's lately. Most are occurring when starting games such as World of Warcraft, but they have occurred during other processes as well. The error message is for a Driver Power State Failure.

Windows 8 installation. Apparently, my PC now randomly decides not to boot properly either from sleep or hibernation. It will go into sleep just fine (though managing to keep it sleeping for more than 5 seconds has been a chore itself), but sometimes it won't be able to come back from sleep properly: it will either black screen on me (very uncommon), or it will keep restarting several times, until either the "Automatic Recovery" pops up, or I manually reset it.
In all my years working with computers, I haven't seen anything like this :/ Services look fine, running apps also look fine, no virus found on a complete check of all almost 10TB of data...
Right now, I'm just about ready to drop the whole thing and go back to Windows 7.

Installed Windows 8 in early October. No problems until now. Now, when I come out of sleep mode, I see the lock screen, and split seconds later it crashes and reboots. So I installed the SDK and symbols and ran "dumpchk.exe -y c:Symbols !analyze -v c: empMemory.dmp" .
Symbol search path is: c:Symbols
Executable search path is:
Windows 8 Kernel Version 9200 MP (4 procs) Free x64
Product: WinNt, suite: TerminalServer SingleUserTS

I've been using Windows 7 on my laptop for over a year now with little to no problems, decide to finally take the dive into Windows 8. The installation runs smoothly, and everything seems perfect up until I tried to come out of sleep mode. Whenever I try to come out of either sleep or Hibernate it starts to awaken then I get the BSOD, stating "Your PC ran into a problem it couldn't handle, and now it needs to restart " ...
After following the instructions to search "Kernel_Data_Inpage_Error", and finding answers that didn't work for me, I'm here now, months later, sad, tired and in need of this being fixed ....
Switched to Windows 8 (then to 8.1) from 7, BSOD when coming out of sleep/hibernate.

I'm also having problems getting the crash dump with the diagnostic tool. O.o It isn't creating a folder on my desktop. I've enabled crash info collection, too.
Edit: Nvm. Got the crash dump. It saved it on my other drive for some reason :P. Uploading now.

For the past few days, my laptop has been crashing upon waking from hibernation. I initially thought it was a trojan or virus, but after poking around more I think its either a HD or driver issue. I installed Who Crashed and Blue Screen View, which mostly return ntoskrnl.exe, but have also thrown in tcpip.sys, AMPPAL.sys, and usbhub.sys. Asus Install seems to think I'm up to date on all the drivers, but after looking at some of these files, I'm not so sure. Dumps attached.

I have an 8GB SD card. I scanned it with ESET SS and Malwarebytes and removed all the detected infections. Still when I remove it and plug it again the scanners detect the malware again! I can neither format nor scan the drive for errors.

I have a Lenovo G580 with Windows 8. I have a weird problem with audio. If the default audio is set as internal speakers and I plug in my headphones the sound just keeps coming from the internal speakers. But if I set the headphones as default, I can switch between the speakers and headphones as I want and there is no problem if only I play music from my computer.
If I try to play something from my browser, however, the sound only comes from the internal speakers and connecting the headphones does nothing. Except (and this is where it gets weird) if I play something from my computer first using the headphones. Then I can play anything from the browser and hear it through the headphones as long as I don't plug them out. If I plug them out, the sound switches back to the internal speakers and trying to plug in the headphones again doesn't do anything. So I have to play something from my computer again with the headphones plugged in and then switch to my browser to again play everything through my headphones.

One thing I noticed about Windows 8 is that there doesn't seem to be an obvious way to put my laptop into hibernation. For clarification, this means that that everything that is loaded into the RAM is written to a file on the HDD. The device then fully powers down. Upon pressing the power button again, the device will resume, similar to the way it does in sleep mode, but without have the power drain associated with storing the windows session in the volatile memory.
I went into the power settings and enabled hybrid sleep for both plugged in and on battery, but when I clicking on the power option in settings (by using the shortcut Win + I or by moving your mouse to the bottom left corner of the screen) there is only an option to put it into sleep mode. I know that it isn't doing hibernation because when it goes into hibernation, you must press the power button to bring it out of hibernation. I want it this way to reduce battery drain and to prevent accidental resuming if the laptop somehow opens while in my backpack...

Windows 8 is clean-installed on a new primary partition of a harddisk. All device-drivers came from DVD Windows 8 Setup, there is no any driver updated yet.
Windows 8 can go hibernation but can't resume from the hibernation. The Windows 8 logo dissappeared fast and the laptop immediatelly went off, I didn't see any blue screen.
Here I attached some files that are collected by SF_Diagnostics_Tool.
MEMTEST86 reported no error. BIOS has been updated to latest version (before ver.3303, after ver.3315).

I close my laptop before going to bed. And some mornings I wake up, and open my laptop, only to find out that it has shut itself down while I was sleeping, and now windows wants me to send an error report. This has been getting rather annoying.

I turn my computer on hibernate mode at about 10pm, and then at around 3am my computer turns on. I don't turn it on, just when I wake its on (I check the Event Viewer to see what time it turns on). I thought that hibernate mode was zero power, so how would it be able to turn on? Is there a setting saying that it should turn on at that time?

When I lock my screen and leave my computer to do tasks while I'm away, the computer goes into hibernation after an hour or so. I tried fiddling with the power options, but no joy. I need to have my computer running while I'm away as I have it doing tasks like rendering video etc. I cannot have it go to sleep!

I have a random/strange thing happening on my Windows 8 Pro (x64). I have set up the system settings so that when I close the lid my laptop goes to hibernation. However, when I wake up my laptop from hibernation, from time to time, hibernation option disappears from system settings (I attached to screenshots). And, to get it back, I need to restart the laptop. This does not happen all the time. But when it happens, I don't get any hibernation option. As a result, closing the lid puts the laptop into sleep rather than hibernation and that is not very convenient when I want to leave fast. To get hibernation option back I need to restart my laptop.

Is it possible to force hibernation off offline with dism?
I've tried this:
Code:
Dism /Mount-Wim /WimFile:install.wim /index:7 /MountDir:Mount
reg load HKLMWIM_System MountWindowsSystem32configSYSTEM
reg import Disable_Hibernate.reg
reg unload HKLMWIM_System
Dism /Unmount-Wim /MountDir:Mount /Commit
Where Disable_Hibernate.reg contains:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINEWIM_SystemControlSet001ControlPower]
"HibernateEnabled"=dword:00000000
When I perform the install & check, hibernation is ON...

However after that it seems hibernation does not work. When I hibernate and power on back pc, it does a clean start. System event log says the system has shut down inapriopertly. I have tried to turn off and on hibernation, disable safe boot, nothing worked.

So this has been a problem ever since I installed Windows 8 Pro on my Dell XPS15 L502X. Everything works fine but when I put the computer to sleep, if I come back after a lengthy period of time the computer will turn off, and when I turn it on it boots instantaneously but will not connect to the wifi networks. The Wifi icon has the little star to indicate that it is on and not connected and when you mouse over it, it says there are available networks however clicking it does not bring up the network selection panel. Mousing over to the right and clicking on settings does the same thing, wont bring up the network selection panel. Going in via control panel, the same thing. Logging out and logging in does not solve it either. It requires a full reboot. After a reboot it works fine again. This is not a problem with sleep if it is just for a short period of time, but for a longer (I can't give you an exact time) it happens, and it is very annoying. Also it will not auto-connect to networks it recognizes in this mode.

I am facing a peculiar issues with my Vaio Machine. I use a Huwaei 3G E173 Modem for connecting Internet. I started using this in my new vaio machine too. Whenever I use the hibernate option, it tend to goto the last phase of Hibernation i.e the screen goes off, the fan starts screaming and after a moment it restarts. So, to be succinct, the new windows 8.1 machine doesn't enter in hibernation mode, if I have connected the modem. The modem has a CD Rom emulation for their proprietary software installation, so I thought it would be the cause and hence I tried to change Boot Options in UEFI BIOS to Primary, Secondary and Third as HDD, Network and External device from HDD, CD, Ext. Device.
I have also tried to disable that Power Management settings available in Driver Settings -> Hardware Settings and Un-tick the "Allow this device to Wake the computer"
P.S If I do not connect the computer to Internet with this modem and try to Hibernate it does the Job, when I use the Huwaei Modem only it creates the issue.
But nothing seems work out. Any resolution for this?

So, yesterday is the first time this has happened. It has never happened before. The first time it happened yesterday, I Was watching some TV shows online, and then I got the PAGE_FAULT(...) error code.
I tried running my Anti_Malware scanner to see if that could pick something up. It crashed again just as it started.
So I tried Advanced SystemCare. Again, same problem.
And it just keeps happening.
I tried refreshing my computer to see if that would do anything, but it crashed during that too.
I ran the SF Diagnostic program and I have the .DMP files (But I can't seem to upload them. Maybe I'm trying to upload the wrong ones, I don't know.)
Anyway, these are the specs of my system. HP ENVY DV-7 7270CA (less than 8 months old) running Windows 8 (as I wasn't able to update to 8.1. I got the 0x80000004 error, or whatever it was. I can't remember exactly), 8GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM, Intel Core i7 3630QM, NVIDIA GT630M (2GB) GPU, and a 1TB 5400RPM HDD. Don't know what brand, I didn't check.

-Ram-TEST lasted nine hours and successfully completed
-Change the motherboard (ASUS Sabertooth 990FX From R2.0 to MSI 890FX-GD70, the latter shall use at this time, the other I sold it)
-Changed video card (ATI 6870 Updated NVIDIA 760)
-Replaced SSD where the system resides, had a value SMART wrong, incorrectly replaced by Samsung (EVO 250GB)
-Analyzed by-DUMP bluescreenanalizer and semrpe the same file with the same bug tails
-Windows-formatted 3 times already
The temperatures are good .. I also have a Corsair H100i and a fairly spacious case that allows good ventilation (CM Storm Trooper)
This is my components:
CPU: AMD FX8350
RAM: 16GB (4 x 4) G SKILL 1866 MHz CAS 8
SSD: 250GB Samsung EVO
Video Card: Zotac 760 amp edition!
HDD: 3TB WD, 250GB WD
Motherboard: MSI 890FX-GD70
Sound Card: Asus Xonar Phoebus ONLY
Case: CM Storm Trooper Black
Win 8.1 x64 Original
I repeat that I do not overclock, the frequencies are those of series
Now I'll explain when I turn on my pc at COLD (the day after practically) happens to me .. and not always! However, if you reboot immediately after work PERFECTLY, and for hours and hours! without presenting problems or other, and even under stress. The next day, however, having been off the night it happens it happens .. this blue screen without doing anything specific! Coincidentally, sometimes even if I do nothing on windows just turned on, or a complete on the internet, or other, causally!
