Oct 20, 2013I am trying to download the windows 8.1 on a windows 8.0 Toshiba S855D-S5120Laptop. Laptop specs 2.3 APU A10 Quad Core, 700 Giga HDD, 8 Giga RAM, and graphic ATI 2 giga memory 1200 x 800 screen . The OS is the first edition of windows 8.0 and I had widows preview 8.1 on it downloaded from the windows store. When I download the windows 8.1 from the store, I get this error code 80240031 ( I looked up the error coded and it mean invalid file) at 50% file download. I have used the windows restore function to restore the laptop to windows 8.0 and still the windows update does not work. I have tried resetting setting to default factory settings and same thing happens with the download. I have also bought the window pro 8.1 pack and the same thing with the windows 8.1 it stops at 50% and same error code comes up. I have also done the WSReset.exe and no improvement. I have all of windows updates and still nothing I do is working.

Oct 17, 2013I get this error code every time I try and download the upgrade. It gets to around 16%-22% complete before it stops. I'll come back and I'll see this error screen, screenshot below. I've tried restarting my PC a hundred times and tried re-installing it a hundred times. I bought Windows 8 Pro a few months back. I also went into Window Update and made sure every thing was installed, all are updated to the latest.

Oct 17, 2013After the most recent update from Windows Store for Windows 8.1 Pro, my Intel Wireless drivers got busted. I could only connect to the Internet via the Ethernet cable and no matter how hard I try re-installing/uninstalling the drivers for the wireless drivers, I still get the same outcome.
In Device Manger, I checked the listing for Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection.In the Properties menu, I get this message:
This device cannot find enough free resources that it can use. (Code 12)
If you want to use this device, you will need to disable one of the other devices on this system.
I went to install software from Intel's website for diagnosing the wireless driver/connection status, so I ran Intel PROSet/WIreless Tools, and after clicking Diagnose > Run Tests for Hardware Test, I get this message:
Wireless Hardware is not bound to transport driver. My wi-fi switch on the left side of my laptop is already turned on. I switched it off, uninstalled and deleted the driver and restarted the laptop to see if I could reinstall. Upon turning back the switch on after logging into my Windows account, I still get the same outcome: code 12.

Found something strange. I opened the View Updates history, and I found out that the update was installed successfully when it was offered the first time. A few hours late, same update was offered again, and this time it failed to install.

Apr 27, 2012I'm using the Asus Eee Slate EP121. This happened more than once that Windows prompted me to install an update, then fails. Sometimes the update prompt disappears even though it was not installed. Today it prompted me to install an update called "Qualcomm Atheros Communications driver update for Bluetooth Module" and failed.

Dec 1, 2013I just did the update from 8 to 8.1. One of the screens asked how I wanted to receive the security code.
I took the default option of a phone call.
I didn't get the call, so I changed it to the email option, and checked the email on another computer.
I didn't get the email either, so I clicked on "I can't do this right now".
So how do I get the code, and how do I do it later? Other than that it looks like the update went ok. I don't know why it came up with the system recover option turned off, and I had to change my setting so that I didn't have to enter a password at start up.

If I try to delete or modify any of these entries, they cannot be accessed through regedit but are available to PsExec.exe from System Internals. I haven't tried deleting these entries for obvious reasons since I do not know if they are essential or not.
Mystery Error Code On ShutDown
Apr 7, 2014Windows 8 factory install on HP 500-056 updated to Windows 8.1 from the Microsoft Store.
Since the update, when I shut my computer down at night, there's a mysterious error code that doesn't stay on the desktop long enough for me to read it.
It doesn't seem to be causing any problems, but it's an error code and I don't want it there, needless to say.

Jul 12, 2014lately Iv'e been having trouble booting my windows 7 and decided that it's time to upgrade, I bought a copy ofr windows 8 64-bit from microsoft and burned it onto a disk using the windows 7 usb/dvd downloader. I was doing all this from a 32-bit and thus applied the bootsect.exe as needed. When i boot from the disk, everything runs smoothly. I insert the required code and select custom install.
At this point, i select the partitiion and proceed. as the installation proceeeds, it does not apear if the first phase of installation does anything, even after 5 minutes it stays at 0%. after it finaly switches to the next part, I wait again for the next phase, but it only throws up a message "windows cannot install required files. make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. error code 0x8007048F"
After multiple attempts I decided to reinstall windows 7, but now I get the same error.

Mar 30, 2014I'm having a problem trying to restore Win 8.1 after a crash. All I get is a blue screen with an error code.
I finally deduced that I was having a hardware problem with my beloved SSD (weird glitches and erratic behavior, occasional recognition errors in BIOS, and finally I/O errors when trying to restore from backup), so I pulled it out, and temporarily replaced it with a spare HDD of slightly larger size. The backup/restore program I use is Paragon, and it has worked flawlessly for me for some time, including when I migrated Win 8.0 to that SSD over a year ago. So I pulled up the last full-disk backup (from 4 weeks ago) and did a Restore to the replacement HDD, but the resulting installation will not boot. I've tried it several times, including using a different archive, and each time I get a blue screen saying "Your PC needs to be repaired", with an error code 0xc0000034.
What is this error code, and how do I go about fixing the problem? Is there some kind of issue with restoring an SSD backup to an HDD? (I know there is something about the partition alignment which may be different, for instance.) This program worked just fine in the opposite direction, meaning restoring a backup of an HDD to the SSD.
I might have been able to use the recovery media to fix the problem, if I had the current media... unfortunately, the disk I created was from prior to the 8.1 upgrade, and it won't work anymore. My mistake. But short of a clean install back to 8.0, and then another upgrade to 8.1.

I got the same error code with DVD disc that I get with USB Flash drive. I formatted HD during beginning of install so there is no OS on laptop...

May 22, 2014My laptop is ASUS S46C, come with window 8 OEM 64bit. As a diligent updater, i gt 8.1 through the window store. A few days ago, i gt error code 0xc0000185 with the BSOD. I borrowed a window 8 dvd and somehow able to bypass the problem without reinstalling the window.
But now the system seems corrupted or lack of some system files as explorer and firefox always freeze. But when i tried to refresh/reset the BSOD appeared again with the error code 0xc0000185.
I have tried to created an iso file but both the normal product ID and the product key i found by Belarc Advisor does not work. I guess OEM key is no use after all. So can i know what are my options?

Aug 29, 2013Recently I have downloaded a few things that require the .NET framework 3.5. When I go to download/ install this, it moves realy fast, then stops and says: "Windows couldn't complete the requested changes" with the error code '0x800F081F'. I have been trying to do this for weeks now, and keep getting this error.
Some things to note:
I downloaded Windows 8 (Pro, 64)

Dec 6, 2013Windows 8 Backup has been working fine for 12 months to an external Seagate USB hard drive.I'm now getting a "device not ready" message with error code 0x80070015 and the backup fails within 30 secs of starting. I've checked the drive for errors and there are no problems. I can read /write files to the external drive. There is ample spare space on the external drive to store the backup file. How to investigate and solve this problem.
