CCleaner - How To Delete Duplicate Files
Nov 6, 2013while using CCleaner I have found a lot of duplicate files in the file finder section. Is it safe to delete the duplicate of these files or should I leave them alone.

View 4 RepliesI use SkyDrive as my cloud storage and have 5GB of files in it.
But I want it to be IN THE CLOUD and hidden, not accesible to everyone using my laptop and not duplicate copies of the files in my hard disk (actually triplicate copies).
For example, let's say my 3GB music collection. I keep a copy in my hard disk within "My Music", a copy in the cloud in Skydrive, but now I have a third copy in my hard disk within the Skydrive folder, which I didn't want and I wasn't asked about.
Microsoft assumed I want this third copy for some reason and downloaded everything automatically to this Skydrive folder. Great.
So, the first thing I do is uninstalling Skydrive, if I want to upload something I do it via browser, but the folder and copy of my files is still there.
My question is, can I delete those files, my music collection and so on without deleting at the same time the copy in the cloud? I mean, if I delete them here they will be deleted in the cloud too?
I used ccleaner on registry I saved before to documents, but I don't know how to merge, restore the files back where they belong.
HP pavilion g6-2225nr
win 8 x64 IE 10
ccleaner v4.07
Since this event my computer will NOT finish sfc/scannow,it starts and stops each time exactly at 22% and says Windows resource protection could NOT perform requested operation. So I did DISM.exe part 1 and it said no component store corruption. Part 2 said component store corruption repaired.
I copied and pasted a bunch of files into the same folder.
Now there is a lot of redundancy and too many files to be removed one by one.
There are all files with a "- Copy" in front of their original name.
How do I remove these files?
My friend has 3 or 4 hard drives with personal files that she wants me to combine into one hard drive. She says there will be many duplicate files and we need to eliminate them. What would be the best way to go about doing that?
View 7 Replies View RelatedBefore installing Windows 8.1 anything that I put into my Skydrive folder (I had the desktop app) were automatically synced to Skydrive.com as well as my Android phone app, and anything I uploaded from my phone app were synced to Skydrive.com and were automatically downloaded to my Skydrive folder. Now my phone app and Skydrive.com still work fine, but the Skydrive folder does not. That is, nothing gets downloaded to my Skydrive folder and nothing gets uploaded to Skydrive.com from it.
I've tried different settings for it, I've tried offline only, online only, I've toggled settings in the Settings app, and nothing.
Something else that happens is that now there are duplicates of all of the files in the My Documents folder. Say that my PC is named Smith-PC. Now, for example, there is a file called Random Document.docx and Random Document-Smith-PC.docx. And this is for every single file in the My Documents folder. Furthermore, only the version with the Smith-PC in the name works. When I open the normally named file, I get an error:
"An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for solution of this problem. Error 0x80070490: Element not found."
This is really annoying and now I have duplicates of all of my documents, half of which won't open and the other half which are named wrong with Smith-PC at the end of all of them.
Is it safe to delete these annoying files if so, how do I do that safely?
View 10 Replies View RelatedOk maybe and it is not a terrible bug but when i try to delete any files from folders the files delete.
But when click on referesh from desktop context menu the files i have deleted show up again when i try to delete them again the files delete again and after 3 or 5 min the files are gone which i have deleted.
So during setup of my laptop I created a few different accounts and then deleted some, so I now only have the one account left. Below is a picture of the folders I mean. The "joey_000" is the actual one for my account, the other 2 have nothing in them.
I made the other 2 accounts trying to change the name of the folder from "joey_000" to just my name, but it couldnt be done so I just left it. The other two folders are there and when I try to delete them, that error message comes up. I just want to be rid of them because the accounts to which they are linked have been deleted and they serve no purpose and are annoying.
I want to delete files permanently on windows8 which can never be recovered.

The Windows 8 message says to go to Disk Cleaner and chose "D Drive " from the drop down menu, however, there is NOT Drop Down Menu and the only thing Disk Cleaner goes to is to clean files on the C Drive.
Doesn't microsoft even know how its lousy operating system, which is universally detested, works?
What a disaster Windows 8 is., At least I got a older type starter button through the MIT guys, which makes it more palatable. Oh yeah, the Windows Explorer also leaves a lot to be desired.
I am planning to format my laptop. I have C and D. I want to completely delete drive C and make a partition of 200GB instead of 217GB. Then I want to take that leftover partition (17GB) and add it to D to have 250GB. On the D, I have my files and photos. I use C for OS and programs only. So if I take that leftover and merge it to D, will D get corrupted?

View 3 Replies View RelatedNever had this problem before I have two files in an otherwise empty folder but there are no extensions after the file name. I can't add an extension to the files. I can't rename them or move them or delete them. Every time i try any of these things i am being told that: "the element wasn't found. It is no longer located in (insert name here) control the elements place and try again"
What that means. I even tried to delete them from the cmd...
I have downloaded some applications, and it won't allow me to delete them (it keeps saying the file is open in that application--I checked task manager, and there's nothing there). I read that a program called Unlocker can work, but when I try to run the setup, nothing happens. This is happening for all applications in my Download folder.
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter two refresh and one clean install of Windows 8 within a two-week period, my computer freezes while I'm running CCleaner. It always stops at the same file:
CUserAppDataLocalTemp\_ME149482PyWinTypes26.dll
First few minutes, I can still use my computer, but after that, I cannot print, cannot open Task Manager, cannot shut down the computer. After numerous attempts, I'm able to close CCleaner, but my computer remains frozen.
I have been using windows 8 for just about a week now. I have made a new admin local account and have deleted the old admin local account but when I go into C:/Users the deleted user account files are still there. When I go to delete these files, a message comes up telling me that I don't have the permission to delete these files. I have read online and searched alot but came across no fix. I have tried turning of windows features, then I tried deleting the files through command prompt using rd /s /q but still no luck. I tried this method using safe mode command prompt but still no luck.
View 5 Replies View Related I have a TB drive and when I was trying to delete some files, it crashed. As a consequence, the recycle bin has some invalid information in it. If I try to perma-delete files in there, the system freezes. I try to restore files, it freezes. When I tried to restore files, it also asked me if I wanted to replace the files in the respective locations that it was restoring to, which to me means that the files are still there and its in some kind of limbo.
I'm sure this problem is at least somewhat related to the hybrid boot feature with the crashes. I dual boot with Linux Mint 15. I think that upon messing with some files on the TB drive and going back to Windows caused it to... well I'll say have a seizure. Now I've done chkdsks and it never seems to truly finish. It gets to the end, and sits there, and maybe even freeze or crash. But when I do a chkdsk I can usually access my files in Linux in read-only mode.
While, in Windows 8, I can still access everything perfectly fine. I can read, write, and do what I want normally so long as it doesn't involve anything with the recycle bin. Also, say I try to go to the files on the HDD that I tried to delete but are still there and delete them, it freezes crashes.
I've also disabled that hybrid boot feature and have attempted clean shutdowns and in some cases it would even freeze on shutdown. Also I've done both chkdsk /r and chkdsk /f with the only difference that one takes hours and the other doesn't.
I recently installed a new ssd and did a fresh install of windows 8.1 on it. I am now using my old hdd as my main data drive in my laptop caddy. My problem is I did not back up my data on my hdd and format it. So I need to delete the "windows" , "program files" and "program files (x86) " folders from that hdd to free up some space.
I understand I have to give ownership to those folders for me to be able to do delete the folders. I have tired the methods suggested by this guide Take Ownership of a File, Folder, Drive, or Registry Key in Windows 8 I tried both of those commands
(To grant currently logged on user ownership of) takeown /F "full path of folder or drive" /R /D Y (To grant administrators group ownership of) takeown /F "full path of folder or drive" /A /R /D Y and it was succesful, however I still couldn't delete the folders.
I use CCleaner 4.14.4707 and recently uninstalled Mozilla Firefox from my computer few days ago. I've just realized that when I open CCleaner, I still see a 'Firefox' section at the left sidebar of the app, and there's a Firefox tab (containing some entries) in the Startup list, though the Firefox itself had already been removed.
I try to clean registry using Wise, and re-install CCleaner, but those things still exist.
How can I remove them?
I can seem to delete or empty the file of my deleted or junk emails. I can individually do them by clicking the trash button, but then they go to the trash and I can empty that unless I go through each one. I don't have time to do this on 50-100 emails a day! I can empty through outlook but they are still in my windows 8 mail!

View 9 Replies View RelatedAlright, so I was in another OS, and decided to copy over some files. The problem is when I got into Windows it gave me disk errors. So I allowed Windows to repair them automatically, and everything was dandy. But the files that were transferred are nowhere to be seen on both Operating Systems, but the disk space is still being taken up (About 100GB) so how on earth do I get rid of this phantom space?

This is a new tablet and I am just getting used to Windows 8.1 .
I messed up when I moved folders from being stored in c: to d:.
I now have duplicate folders for pictures, video's etc in Drive D:
How do I correct this ? Can I delete all the folders in D and start again? ( this is a new computer and there is no content in any of these folders)
I also notice that in file explorer I have three main folders with almost the same subfolder structure . The folders are:
a) Myname ( with a picture icon) . Subfolders : Tablet name > documents, music etc
b) Myname: Subfolders : contacts, desktop, favorites, skydrive etc
c) This PC : subfolders: documents, downloads , folders that contain places I connected to through my network) , . C:/, D:/ , libraries etc
Why so many duplicates ? How can I clean this up so there is only the This PC ( I believe this was the original Folder before I messed around ) .
So today I came through this situation. there are duplicate processes created by applications. Like google chrome, norton's executable files.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed Windows 8 on an xtreemer ultra media center. It's connected to a projector and a touch screen monitor in duplicate screen mode. Sometimes I would like to keep projector off and only use monitor.
Problem is when I turn off the projector. You hear the sound that windows detects a disconnected device. The image changes to a clean desktop (used to be lock screen, but I disabled that). And system becomes unresponsive. No cursor can be found. No metro interface. Microsoft+p is not displaying. Tried everything I can think of.
