Any application that can password protect the WHOLE of the USB drive not just a partition? I really need an app fast as I'll be using a USB to hold some pretty sensitive information.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently used a code and encryption process from this link [URL] ..... and saved the protected folder to my desktop. My husband recently and unknowingly deleted it and it contained all of my pictures from the past 5 years. After he deleted it, I tried restoring it from the recycle bin and I think it mightve messed up the encryption or something because now I can't get back into it and it doesn't even ask for a password. It just says it's empty.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo, the device uses an eMMC for the drive. Is it possible to set the ATA security password on the drive, just like you can for regular hard drives? I don't see an option in the BIOS to set it. Perhaps the option is there somewhere though.
I basically want to protect the data on the tablet. I don't think the BIOS administrator/user password provides sufficient security since that password can be reset and the data can then be accessed. I don't want to use software encryption since I don't want to slow the device down.
I fix computers when they get a virus etc. and want to be able to connect their computers to my home network while at the same time ring fencing their computer so that they can only access the internet (for updates and virus definitions).
I want to be able to prevent their machine from seeing and interacting with my computer and other "trusted" machines and devices on my network and I want all of my machines (Windows 8.1 and Windows 7) from having their media sharing services and shared folders etc. popping up in my machines.
I understand that I can setup VLAN's for this purpose but sadly my router Netgear DG834GT does not have VLANS.
I have an old Dell netbook that crashed (literally) on the ground, broke the screen. Hard drive is intact and accessible by a USB device, but that pesky password I made up to protect the files under my personal username, even though I know it, doesn't appear anywhere for me to access the document. I haven't found references made to it, but the hard drive has Windows XP operating system on it and I am running 8 on the computer I have now. Don't know if that has anything to do with not being able to get control panel to open on that one. I'm trying to continue writing a book I had started on that computer and foolishly didn't save elsewhere.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI use Windows 8 PRO and BitLocker to encrypt my system drive. My notebook hasn't TPM module, so I changed group rules and allow to use BitLocker without TPM. I enabled BitLocker, write key backup to flash drive and use PIN to unlock BitLocker.
Everything works fine except one think... when I start computer, there is BitLocker start screen and I must write PIN.
Always, really ALWAYS first-time password is invalid. Tried to write it very, very slow and I'm sure its correct... but BitLocker said it isn't.
I must delete it and write again... click enter and... pass is valid! I try to use insert to show password - in this case, first-time password are correct and Bitlocker accepts its. Unfortunatelly, it isn't secure method.
I have a Windows 8 Pro laptop with a single SSD. I just encrypted the entire drive using Bitlocker. The process prompted me to save the recovery key, which I did to an external drive. The encryption was successful but nowhere during the process was I prompted to choose a password. So I have the drive encrypted but when I reboot it does so normally without asking me for a key or password to access the drive.

I tried booting up my PC which has Windows 8 installed and it was working fine until yesterday.
It has a "Enter Password" screen upon start-up and I think it's a virus because it only lets me enter 10 characters and even though, I do put in the correct password, it still says it's incorrect. The computer also shuts down after 3 unsuccessful attempts.

I have my Windows 8.1 PC's password policy set so that a password is not required when waking from sleep/shutdown. I used to be able to wake the PC from sleep and not put in a password, and I could turn the PC on after a shutdown without having to put in a password either. Since last week, though, when I turn my PC on, it will boot to the Windows loading screen and after loading for a bit, it will jump into the login screen and immediately report a login error that the username or password is incorrect. This happens before I even get a chance to type a username or password. The fact that I have to type in the username and password is strange because I have the PC set to bypass that option.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI set up the user account using my Microsoft email account. I would like to use a different password on my desktop vs the email password. My email password since it is accessible via web is strong 16 characters long, random characters password and changed often. I would like to change the desktop password to something I can remember, still strong, but I don't change it as often since you have to get physical access to my desktop.
I assumed once I linked to the Microsoft account I could change the password on the machine without it changing my email password.
Is this not possible? I would prefer not to have to lower the security of my email account just to accommodate Windows 8. Never a problem before as my email clients stored the password.

The xbox music app for Windows 8 will not show any of the music in my library. I have narrowed it down to the fact the all my music on a 2nd hard drive.
If I move a couple of songs to the c drive and add that folder to my library, they will show up. However nothing in my library that is on the 2nd hard drive will show up.
I just loaded Windows 8 to a 256GB SSD. Can I install my other programs, such as Office, on another Hard Drive so that I do not run out space on my SSD?

I have a couple of 4GB usb pen drives and a 16 GB ADATA one.
When I want to boot from the Linux I have installed in the pen drive, do I have to go to F2, enter the bios and set it to boot from USB or can I tap F12 and do it that way. I have used the 3 major installers, Linux Live USB installer, UNetbootin and USB Universal Installer and cannot get Ubuntu or any distro to boot from this drive. I have formatted it as FAT 32 not NTFS.
I had some success booting from the 4GB pen drives with some distros but not always.
I installed Zorin OS which was great but it started to ask for a password which was never mentioned in the process so I had to delete it.
The question is, am I booting wrong to be making so many errors? I have a Win 8.1 OS with 6 GB ram.
I have 3 4GB pen drives and a 16 GB drive. The 16 is an ADATA and the others are Sandisk.
All I want is a live USB with persistence for updates. I found Ubuntu the easiest and Zorin equal to it except for the password issue.
Under control panel there is an application entitled "Recovery". I wanted to create a recovery drive on my USB memory stick. I did, and then tried to reboot from it just to see if it would work in case I needed it. It wouldn't boot.

Partition wizard - seems no way to create a USB bootable media -- if your PC doesn't have a physical DVD drive even the PAID PRO version doesn't show the create bootable media option. Machine doesn't have bootable CD.
Gone back to the FREE GPARTED program -- although it can take a lot longer to run when re-sizing / moving partitions.
(Another method -- a bit extreme though is to install Partition wizard on a Windows to Go system !!!)
The Partition wizard website is totally confusing too it shows a USB version but how to obtain it is unclear and the documentation is not good either.
I'm trying to find an App that displays how much space is left on the Crive as a Live Tile that auto-updates as space is cleared or used.
I'm not sure what to type into the search... I get C++ , cloud storage, driving conditions in India and New York, driving games.
I hate having to jump to desktop > my computer to see how much is left.
I re-enabled desktop gadgets but they are still are terribly ugly... and are always "group" with other info I dont want like cpu speed, etc.
My onedrive is not syching. The drive has the blue icon to the left of files/folders but it says 0% for hours.
I'm not getting through to their support.

View 5 Replies View RelatedAs I am nearing the limits of my C drive, I have been purging applications and moving them to a secondary D drive. One of the uninstalled apps, Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Pro, opened up space on my drive, but also left about 29 uninstalled programs (and I assume, many unnecessary folders). According to a couple of Google searches, uninstalling these programs, even if done in the correct order, could cause some problems down the line. However, I do want to install this program on my D drive. Would installing visual studio on my d drive cause any problems (as there are 29 programs related to visual studio on the C drive)? I am running windows 8.1 on a Gigabyte p34g.
