I know of the basic way to make a program run as an admin (rightclick, Properties -> Compatibility - > Run this program as an administrator)
Prob I have found out, If I put the .exe on another site for someone to download, when they download it to their PC, or if I just simply move the .EXE to another part of the PC, the admin rights are taken off.
If there a way to keep the "Always run as an administrator" on there at all times.
I have a bat file that makes sure that DNS settings are correct, at startup, since Win 8 has a tendency to drop them.
How can I ensure that the bat file is run in an elevated prompt? It doesn't execute unless it is...?
Windows 8.1 ... My anti-virus program is Bitdefender Total Security 2013. It has detected a virus called "Adware.DomaIQ.I". It has infected a file named "7-zip.exe". The anti-virus cannot delete the virus for some reason. I tried to delete the exe but I get denied saying that I need permission from the administrator even though I'm in the administrator account. I have checked and the drive and even the infected file says all users have full control.

I am getting error "Save failed - Please check if this file is opened in another program" when trying to edit the hosts file in Notepad++. This has only started happening after a fresh installation of Windows 8 on a new computer. My previous computer with Windows 8.1 was able to do it correctly without any errors. I am using only one account on both computers, but for some reason on the new computer, the UAC keeps getting in the way. I have lowered the UAC warnings all the way down but that hasn't worked. Is there another setting I'm missing?
Note that I don't want to right-click Notepad++ and choose "Run as administrator" every time I want to edit a system file. I see that as a waste of time and an unnecessary step since I am already using an administrator account. I didn't have to do that on the old computer.

I have a hard drive connected to a hard drive caddy, and am using it as an external hard drive: and it contains various audio/text/video files, and these were added to the hard drive when I was using windows xp
Now, however I find some of these files are "locked" onto the hard drive - I cant move them anywhere else. If I try to do this I get the message that I don't have administrative privileges to do so I have tried disabling uac but it situation still the same.
My Pc has only one user account (mine) and I am of course, the administrator accordingly. because I installed windows 8 myself with just me as only user.
I'm running Windows 8.1 (standard/ home edition) and can't download a couple .exe files. I get "You'll need to provide administrator permission to copy to this folder". errors. I'm the only user on this computer and have administrator access.
The file resides on mediafire and via my ipad I was able to manage to transfer it to dropbox, but I still get the same error. The filename (partial) is created but no further downloading is done.
I can't take ownership of the file-- it doesn't exist on my computer yet.
I can't change the local security policy (I understand this is only available in Win 8 Pro version).
UAC is already disabled as much as I can figure (via the slider set to never notify).
Short of setting up a super admin account (would this even work?)

Although I can set up this permanently for an existing executable or shortcut, this is hardly possible doing for any installed program. I know this was possible somehow under Windows 7, all programs launch with admin rights and the superfluous option was removed from context menu.
I think you know the function right click on a file and use "run as administrator". The file will run with administrator rights (without asking for a password).
Another way is to set the funktion "run as administrator" in the shortcut. Will you use the "run as" funktion in a dos box you need a password for the administrator account. But I will not insert a pw, i will use it like right click "run as administrator" but without a right click
For example:
runas /noprofile /user:administrator cmd.exe
i will not use a password!
I am really annoyed by one error I keep getting. I was just about to develop a website from the scratch so just wanted to have everything setup before starting. So, I installed apache server on my system. Now the issue is, I am not able to update config 'httpd' file as it shows "Access is denied" error. When I try opening the txt file using "Run as Administrator" an error pops out - "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action .....". I have tried many things but I am not able to fix this. In what time period I would have significantly created my site, I am just trying to fix this thing.

Now, when I go to reboot, Windows gives a message that "Other people are logged on to this computer. Restarting Windows might cause them to lose data." What I don't find is a way to sign out of that Admin account. Is there, short of disabling it? Seems sort of a Catch-22.

I don't know if it started with updating from 8 to 8.1 in December, but roughly since then I've getting been a fair number of error messages while saving or changing a program's default setting, saying directly or indirectly that I need administrator rights to do the operation. My user account is Standard and shows me as Administrator, and everywhere I look says I am Administrator with full administrator rights. Yet, as the screenshots below show, I now can't save to the system drive (C:) and can't even uncheck the default file manager setting within the XYplorer, my normal file manager. The other day I couldn't save an extracted folder under in its intended program folder in Program Files (x86), something I did numerous times with new versions of the same program under Win 8 and Win 7. To distinguish betrween the 2 I would like to call my administrator account 'administrator'.

It doesn't give this message when trying run anything else as an administrator as far as I can tell, but it definitely will not let me open the run prompt as an administrator, which presents some obvious problems.
I have the only user account on this computer so it does have administrator privileges although they are not invoked simply from opening the run prompt normally.

Everything went fine until I used netplwiz to change her to the administrator and only user. I thought that went ok but now she is the only user and I'm being prompted for a password everywhere which doesn't work. I can't even run a third party application from a thumb drive. I have a 2-month-old Dell Inspiron 15 notebook running Windows 8.0, and trying to upgrade to 8.1. I have plenty of HD space and 4GB memory. I have 2 user accounts, one with admin designation. I want to change the admin to the other, but I cannot. When I try to change the user accounts, I get a message requiring the account with admin to OK any changes.
When I enter that account's password, I get a message that the password is incorrect. I changed the password in the "reset password" site online, but that password doesn't work in the change users part of the PC. So I am stuck. Right now, I cannot affect any changes to the system, because that requires the OK of the admin user account, and that in turn requires a password, which seems not to match the password that I entered for that account.
