View 2 RepliesI am really annoyed by one error I keep getting. I was just about to develop a website from the scratch so just wanted to have everything setup before starting. So, I installed apache server on my system. Now the issue is, I am not able to update config 'httpd' file as it shows "Access is denied" error. When I try opening the txt file using "Run as Administrator" an error pops out - "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action .....". I have tried many things but I am not able to fix this. In what time period I would have significantly created my site, I am just trying to fix this thing.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have to open a lot of text-based files on my computer each day to change settings and such (for example the hosts file or the http.conf file, etc.) In order for this to work I need to press win-key, find Notepad, right-click, select run as administrator, then open file, browse to the file location and finally open the file. is a faster way (preferably via right-clicking the files) to open/edit a text-based file as admin?
View 8 Replies View RelatedWhen I right click on run and select open as administrator, I get the following error: file:////C:/users/pc/appdata/roaming/microsoft/windows/start menu/programs/system tools/run.lnk The parameter is incorrect.
It doesn't give this message when trying run anything else as an administrator as far as I can tell, but it definitely will not let me open the run prompt as an administrator, which presents some obvious problems.
I have the only user account on this computer so it does have administrator privileges although they are not invoked simply from opening the run prompt normally.
I only have one account on my computer, which appear to be "Build-in Administrator". I can do everything on my computer, but the only thing that I can't is open all the programs that It came by default when you install the Windows 8 Pro (messaging, music, new, photos, videos, weather, reader, skydive, sport, store, camera, travel, games and etc).
Every time I tried to open one of them it says:
"Photos (or any) can't be opened using the Build-in Administrator Account. Sign in with a different account and try again".
I have upgraded my windows 8 to 8.1 and now no apps will work and the pc settings wont open also I have activated windows but still wont work
View 14 Replies View RelatedCannot install program even though running as administrator error message keeps on saying I am not running it as administrator but I definitely am.
Have tried compatibility as well as clicking on properties and clicking on run as administrator.
A few weeks ago, after using the computer for some time, (The problem doesn't start until a few hours later) my programs won't start up unless running as administrator. All programs. Including notepad. (not sure about cmd) I have not done a full scan on my computer because it estimates more than one day and the estimated time still extends.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm not exactly sure when this problem cropped up since I don't use it often, but when I type "cmd" in Modern UI and right-click on the program, choose Run as administrator, I'm dropped to the desktop and nothing happens. This also happens if I list programs installed through the Modern UI and right-click on Command Prompt.
However, if I go to windows/system32 and right click CMD and choose Run as administrator in Desktop mode it works fine. I also installed Stardock's Start8 to return the classic start menu and when I type cmd there and choose Run as admin it works fine, or if I right-click the Start button and choose Run cmd as admin (not exact wording) it works fine. The Run as admin problem only seems to affect the Modern UI mode.
How this can be fixed? It's not that there aren't workarounds, it's just I prefer things to work as they're suppose to. I've checked my user credentials as well as the UAC settings and everything looks fine. How to fix this short of "re-install Windows".
It seems like exactly something Vista would do. How to fix this so I can activate applications?
It was giving me this error at first with IE10, but now it's able to open.
I get the error for trying to launch those built in apps that I'll probably never use anyway.
The worst thing is I get the error if I try to open an image such as a png or jpeg.
i was trying to access the store and it said "store can't be accessed with the built-in administator" and to sign in with another user... i am the only one that uses this laptop and my question was how can i access it or is there a way to bypass it using the built-in administator?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWith Windows 8 there is no way (that I am aware of) to avoid having to create a user profile. So now I have my user profile and the stupid Public profile. For some reason some stuff gets put into the Public profile and some stuff is being put into my profile.
An example would be documents.
The majority of my documents are stored in Users/<name>/Documents yet for some reason there are a bunch of documents that I use being stored in Users/Public/Public Documents
Is there a way to merge these 2 folders and then get rid of the Public profile completely?
I've been getting this single warning since the very first boot after a clean install of Windows 8 Pro. This is the only warning I get along with 19 informationals that are easy to understand and logical.

I did a Clean Install on a new SSD Drive. When I tried the Relocate User Profiles to another Partition, the System gave me a message that I would have to re-install, but the Windows 8 CD will not re-install. What can I do?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use my cell phone for internet access on my laptop, since it can act as a portable wifi access point.
The problem I'm having is that every time I connect, Windows 8.1 creates a new profile. So I started with "Phone access point", then I got "Phone access point 2" on the second connection, "Phone access point 3" on the third connection, and so on and so on, creating a new profile every time I connect.
Is there any way I can tell Windows 8.1 to use the same network profile whenever it connects to "Phone access point", since it's the same connection as it was last time. It does it correctly for all the other wifi access points I connect to: home, work,, the only one that's causing a problem is the phone's connection.
In w 8.1 If I open an app within seconds it loses focus. It makes it very difficult to type ie in e mail, the only way to get focus is to left click the mouse within the app and the cursor comes back for a few letters then the cursor disapears again. So any time I make an app active it becomes inactive quickly. To make it active again I have to click on it with my mouse.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows RT tablet so all my apps are pretty much in the metro/modern UI.
Is there a way to quickly close all open apps? Right now I have to swipe down on each app.
I have put irfanview as my default image viewers of all types all over the system.
However, when I am using irfanview on a particular image, I want some other app to open the other images that I am trying to open. For that I have installed FastStone Image Viewer, so I want FSView.exe to appear in my RightClick - Open With defaults so that I can select it.
However I try, windows 8 is always showing
Irfanview
Microsoft Office 2010
Paint
Photos
Windows Photo Viewer
in that open with setting.
I have selected Faststone viewer a dozen time through disk, but it doesn't stick to the right click menu. Those names are always coming.
I don't want even to see 1. Microsoft Office 2010, 2. Photos, 3. Windows Photo Viewer in that list, I just don't want to use these three programs to ever open any of my images.
So I want, 1. irfanview, 2. paint, 3. Faststone viewer to appear in my rightclick openwith list.
How do I do it. I have tried control panel - Default programs. I have downloaded and run Default Programs Editor.exe mentioned elsewhere in this forum, but they don't give any option to "delete" there options of rightclick menu that keep on appearing.
I found that whenever I open an app, such as 'Reader' they remain open even after I switch to something else. I know I could close them by swiping the upper left of the screen and select 'Close'.
Is there a way to have them close altogether when I'm done with them?
the tiles flip around and won't open the app. I already have over 1049 screen thingys.

after restarting the windows logged into a "Temporary account" and my main account was corrupted by the problem ..all metro apps won't open .. even the "PC Settings" !they just "crash on startup"
Windows 8 creates a roaming profile in the C:Users directory using xxxxxx_000 subdirectories for each Microsoft account which is created.
Apparently, these subdirectories are only temporary directories that are recreated each time a user logs on to Windows 8 via these accounts.
Is there a way to make sure that these profiles are completely deleted when the user logs off from his Microsoft account?
I not used some of the Apps in a while and went to use the Music, Weather and News App in Windows 8.1 and they will not open and it says to check the Windows store. I checked the store and alll it says is i own these apps. I then next uninstalled these 3 apps and then re-installed them but i am getting the same and cannot open them.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI can't seem to open any off my apps from the start menu. When I open an app, the app closes back but is available at the sidewindow(?). It doesn't load or anything. When I click it, the app sort of minimizes to the sidewindow(?).
So I've been lurking around and one of the problems that I thought was happening to me is that I do not have the temporary internet files. C -> Users -> My Name -> AppData -> Local. I read that it should have a windows folder in the local folder and a temporary internet files in the windows folder.
I changed my local user to the microsoft account and then changed back to the local user using another username so that might affect these change in my pc.
I have a new laptop some of the apps have stopped opening .. I have checked the resolution and is ok .i have checked for updates but still can't get them to open .

I updated my 8.1 update 1 system just few days ago and cleaned disk with the Windows utility Disk cleaner installed with Windows 8.1 Update 1.
There's another issue: when I've opened it, it seemed like my start page was modified as well as the page it is opened when a new tab is created...
What should I do?
Ps: Metro IE is stil working correctly...
What application can I use to open a .bak file? or is there any way where i can open it?
