Oct 8, 2011Somme time ago i bought a mini-laptop with windows 7 pre-installed. Since some time, the laptop is really slow. I would like to format the hardisk and reinstall the same version of windows, but as i said before, windows 7 was pre-istalled so I don't have any Cd/Dvd. Is there a way to format and reinstall my version of Windows 7?

Mar 22, 2012I am going to reinstall windows 7 on my SSD but when I built my computer a few weeks ago I used a 60gb SSD for windows and a separate HDD for files, programs, etc. Now I am wondering how reinstalling windows 7 will affect the program files on the separate HDD. I'm figured the OS recognizes the programs on my separate HDD b/c it installed them there. But if I install a new OS how can I tell it to recognize the program file on my separate HDD? Or am I S.O.L. and I need to delete the programs folder and reinstall everything fresh with the fresh OS?

Aug 26, 2012I recently got a new ssd and installed Windows 7 on it (I used the oem code on the bottom of my laptop [Lenovo Y580] along with the iso from digitalriver). It's been... well, as good as you can expect windows to be up until yesterday. When I booted the laptop into Windows, I had no internet despite having an ethernet cable connected. I checked to make sure it wasn't just my router. Sure enough, wifi and ethernet work perfectly in Ubuntu. I went into windows again and checked if I had the latest drivers. I did, so I tried reinstalling them and everything worked fine. Until I restarted. Every single time I restart I need to reinstall my wifi and ethernet drivers. It takes seconds, but it's still annoying and shouldn't be happening.

The problem is that Flash will not stay installed. Another problem (related?) is that I *cannot* install Itunes on this computer, it will error out each time, and Apple is notorious for telling me it is a Windows problem, nothing they can do, so I found a way around the "long pole in the tent" requirement of Itunes to Sync iPad/iPod, and this really isn't even a "problem" anymore as much as an annoyance. Other utilities, Avast virus protection, Malware Bytes, Spybot Search/Destroy with immunization, and always running Iolo System Mechanic.
All software and operating system is up to date with current patches and updates. A program I use regularly that may be suspect but also seems so innocuous as to have no bearing on it is a keyboard macro program, Keyboard Express v4. For example with this program, I can define some hot keys like ALT-CTRL-T which will insert some text I define to the program into wherever the cursor is at on the current web page or Word document. Always text, no graphics or funkiness here.
I usually use Firefox (v11.0) as my browser but interestingly enough, I discover that Flash has also disappeared when I go to IE (v9), and it appears there is a different Flash for IE than there is for Firefox, depending on which browser is used to download (multiple times daily) the Flash installer. An interesting aspect is that after I re-install Flash, IE and/or Firefox, then later on go to Outlook and click a link in an email, Outlook gives me an error message about not being able to open the link. But if I reboot, Outlook is now fine to click on and open that same link, although Flash has again gone away.

My issue is, I'll try to boot into Windows 7 Ultimate x64, not a new installation at all, and I get the "Windows is Starting" screen and the little colored balls, but after a few seconds I get a very very quick blue screen and reboot before Windows even loads. There's no way I can read the blue screen error.So I thought, "Let's just do a startup repair." That didn't work; it said: Quote: Root cause found:The partition table does not have a valid System Partition

So I pop in the Windows 7 installation DVD; it tells me there are missing CD/DVD drivers. I point it to the Windows 7 drivers directory on my primary HDD, it still can't find anything.So I load up my copy of MSDaRT. Some tools load, but it tells me "Tool requires a supported offline OS" under many of the tools, and the ones that do start won't do anything at all because they can't "see" my Windows 7 installation. I have an external HDD reader, but I'd rather not have to wipe everything and do a clean reinstall. Maybe trying to fix the partitions with a G-Parted on an Ubuntu Live CD or something?

Aug 29, 2010Shut down PC last night, all working perfectly. Today it won't boot with the "missing operating system" message. Have booted from Windows 7 installation disc, tried startup recovery - took 2 hours before reporting no automatic fix possible. It cannot find an installed Windows OS to do a system restore, so I attempted a "custom" clean re-install. However, I then get a "canot create system partition or find existing one" error message. I have tried to create a "New" one but nothing doing. I don't seem to have any HDD drivers to point to either.

I have several of problems with Windows 7, so I would like to reinstall it, but by keeping programs and files. The problem is that the Install file setup.exe looks into 'system reserved' partition rather than checking the C:/ hard drive, and as such does not want to proceed with the reinstall because of a lack of disk space (100 Mo only on 'system reserved' partition)...
- How could I do so making the install looking at C:/ rather than at that partition?
- And during the reinstall could I do so that this partition is not created anymore?

Dec 11, 2011I have a custom built system. windows 7 installed but it will not start up in this system. A friend put the hard drive into his system and Windows started up fine on his. I ran the memory check on windows and it never said that there were problems but you have to be able to get into windows to see the report so i can't be totally sure. The motherboard was sent back and checked by the mfg. and i doubt that the processor could be bad if it was able to install windows 7 onto the hard drive.

I have to do a custom install because I am installing English over Russian. I have looked on the internet about how to change my partition system to GPT. Seems like something I can do, however, I have a question: If I have only one physical hard drive in my machine, is it possible the change the partition system from MBR to GPT? I see lots of examples of doing it to a second hard drive, but not many when it is the only hard drive. It is a new drive and clean, so I do not worry at this point about the data on it.

Afterwards, it booted from the laptop HDD, and I did some perusing to run my Windows 7 disk and boot from that to "activate" my OS on my SSD.I tried this, but it doesn't display anything. I have disconnected all of the other HDDs (two laptop HDDs total) and now nothing is listed in terms of disks with Windows on it. It says, "If your operating system isn't listed, click Load Drivers and then install drivers for your hard disks." I can do this, and it brings up my SSD with all of the folders. Would this be a place to load a driver? I am not sure what I am looking for.I have spent about an hour looking elsewhere online but it doesn't seem that any body else has had my problem (or I wasn't able to find it). It recognizes my SSD in the BIOS, but it simply won't load from it. As well, when it was loading from my laptop HDD's OS (Windows 7 Professional 64-bit), I was able to access my C: drive (the SSD) and all of its folders.

Jul 20, 2012For a few months now, whenever I boot up it seems that all of the USB ports on the computer, including the network adapter just simply won't work until I've reinstalled. What's weird is this is true for all but one USB port, which is located on the back of the case. I've kept my mouse plugged in there so whenever I need to restart I can easily reinstall the drivers... Missing Icons For All .exe's On System / Except Newly Installed Ones
Sep 5, 2012I have: reset the icon cache, reset registry settings (perhaps regretting it now? no effect), tried IconPackager.So the problem is that I have missing icons for all .exe's on my system, except newly installed ones. I also have a problem with any folder that contains a file. (when a folder has a file in it, it shows a preview of it inside the folder: that is the icon that is messed up, the normal folder with nothing in it is fine).I replaced that icon a while ago and then tried to set it back with IconPackager, but it never reset that icon (all the rest are fine). Lastly, shortcut icons are also screwed up.I can manually reset shortcut icons by re-referencing the .exe, but not the .exe icons themselves.
I believe this may be to do with the fact that IconPackager was intended for XP or something like that, because I've readthat the way icons are linked to applications is done differently between the two OS.So, what I need is a way to, en mass, link all .exe's with their own icons that are bundled inside the .exe.Be it an app, a cmd line, whatever.I also need a way to reset that folder problem. I've tried with the Registry to no effect.
