Apr 28, 2012

I am trying to access my wife's macbook hard drive via my Windows computer using the Vantec SATA/IDE to USB 2.0 Adapter. The Apple techs said they could not get the drive to register when they hooked it up. However, we gave it a good drying with blow dryerThe adapter works fine and all the correct drivers installedI am in disk management and the 250GB drive seems to be showing up. However, it is not showing up in My Computer and right click shows "assign a letter" is grayed out.

Formatted HD, Trying To Reinstall Windows 7 - NTLDR Is Missing?

Apr 26, 2011

put together my barebones system, installed Windows 7, and everything was great. Then Iinstalled Sony Vegas 10. The next time I tried to boot up, I got several BSODs and couldn't boot in any mode. Everything was not so great. After trying a few things, I formatted the HD in the hopes of starting fresh.Upon first bootup, I got a message saying that "NTLDR is missing."I've tried using the boot CD & USB method described [URL]but it hangs up in a DOS-looking screen on a line that says "[0.762735][<c01034a7>] kernel_thread_helper+0x7/0x10"So that's where I am right now.

I have recently reinstalled my operating system. Once formatted, I installed all the drivers, utilities for my motherboard and graphics card.I now have no sound, even though the RealTek audio driver is installed.I have gone into 'device manager' right clicked to check for updates and Windows advise me that my drivers are up to date. There is an 'x' on my audio icon stating "No Speakers or Headphones are plugged in" and i know my speakers are plugged in and working as i tested them on my ipod. My PC is recognising the input jack, as a window pops up.

All of a sudden after a month, I can't scan, so I want to uninstall & reinstall the printer. How do I do this when it was installed with Windows Update? I see a list of drivers in the DriverStore/FileRepository folder.

Reinstall Windows 7 On SSD But Programs Installed On Separate HDD?

Mar 22, 2012

I am going to reinstall windows 7 on my SSD but when I built my computer a few weeks ago I used a 60gb SSD for windows and a separate HDD for files, programs, etc. Now I am wondering how reinstalling windows 7 will affect the program files on the separate HDD. I'm figured the OS recognizes the programs on my separate HDD b/c it installed them there. But if I install a new OS how can I tell it to recognize the program file on my separate HDD? Or am I S.O.L. and I need to delete the programs folder and reinstall everything fresh with the fresh OS?

Windows 7 Installed On SSD - Need To Reinstall Drivers On Boot

Aug 26, 2012

I recently got a new ssd and installed Windows 7 on it (I used the oem code on the bottom of my laptop [Lenovo Y580] along with the iso from digitalriver). It's been... well, as good as you can expect windows to be up until yesterday. When I booted the laptop into Windows, I had no internet despite having an ethernet cable connected. I checked to make sure it wasn't just my router. Sure enough, wifi and ethernet work perfectly in Ubuntu. I went into windows again and checked if I had the latest drivers. I did, so I tried reinstalling them and everything worked fine. Until I restarted. Every single time I restart I need to reinstall my wifi and ethernet drivers. It takes seconds, but it's still annoying and shouldn't be happening.

Flash Not Staying Installed - Need To Reinstall Multiple Times Daily?

Apr 12, 2012

System: Dell Inspiron laptop,
Studio 16 XPS
Windows 7 Home Premium w/Service Pack 1 (64 bit)
Intel Core Duo 2.8 Ghz, 4 GB RAM.

The problem is that Flash will not stay installed. Another problem (related?) is that I *cannot* install Itunes on this computer, it will error out each time, and Apple is notorious for telling me it is a Windows problem, nothing they can do, so I found a way around the "long pole in the tent" requirement of Itunes to Sync iPad/iPod, and this really isn't even a "problem" anymore as much as an annoyance. Other utilities, Avast virus protection, Malware Bytes, Spybot Search/Destroy with immunization, and always running Iolo System Mechanic.

All software and operating system is up to date with current patches and updates. A program I use regularly that may be suspect but also seems so innocuous as to have no bearing on it is a keyboard macro program, Keyboard Express v4. For example with this program, I can define some hot keys like ALT-CTRL-T which will insert some text I define to the program into wherever the cursor is at on the current web page or Word document. Always text, no graphics or funkiness here.

I usually use Firefox (v11.0) as my browser but interestingly enough, I discover that Flash has also disappeared when I go to IE (v9), and it appears there is a different Flash for IE than there is for Firefox, depending on which browser is used to download (multiple times daily) the Flash installer. An interesting aspect is that after I re-install Flash, IE and/or Firefox, then later on go to Outlook and click a link in an email, Outlook gives me an error message about not being able to open the link. But if I reboot, Outlook is now fine to click on and open that same link, although Flash has again gone away.

Fan Control On Macbook Pro 15 Inch Under Windows 7

Jul 19, 2009

I have the latest macbook pro 15 inch. I have installed windows 7 build 7100 on it via bootcamp. Most things are working but the box is running very hot. At idle I see 75C on the GPU and 60C on the processor. The fans will not come on until 80C. I don't want to run my computer at 80C. I talked to Apple and they told me that there was no way to change the EFI settings. They also told me that Windows 7 had no way to manage the fan settings via Apple's EFI. Is this true?

I downloaded speedfan and it was not able to control the fans.

Dual Booting Osx/windows 7 On A Macbook

Feb 24, 2010

i've got a macbook running Windows 7, and i want to dualboot it and get osx back on there. should be easy, osx on a macbook, right? **** me.

i did a bit of homework first, and reviewed what other people have done for dualbooting, but all of the threads are ancient and address different specific issues so here are the steps i went through:

-created a second partition in Windows 7, ntfs, made it active

-rebooted with an authentic osx snow leopard disc

-osx installation startup began

-went into disk utility to format it to "journalled" and get this error: "Volume Erase failed with the error: Could not modify partition map"

it won't let you install until the disk is formatted correctly..

RC DVD Won't Boot On MacBook Pro

I downloaded the RC ISO and burned it to a DVD and tried to install it on my MacBook Pro, but the DVD won't boot. I hold down C during boot, they gray screen comes up and the disc spins real fast for a while, but nothing happens.

I have read that the ISO created isn't ISO compliant so you have to create an ISO that is. I followed the instructions here to do that. This didn't make a difference.

I didn't have any problems installing the Beta, but the RC won't boot.

Cannot Access MacBook On W7 Workgroup

Dec 3, 2009

I have had a Windows workgroup for years, linking PCs and Macs as well as a Linkstation Network Drive through a Time Capsule Router/Hard Drive Combo. Immediately after upgrading from Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional on my Sony Vaio VGN-Z750D, I can see the Time Capsule and MacBook but can not access the MacBook Pro. I am able to access the Linkstation and the Time Capsule. However, the system does not ask me for a username and password when I try to access the MacBook Pro, and I get an error message that Windows cannot access the MacBook. The problem seems to be on the Windows 7 end, for I am able to access the Sony on the MacBook Pro.

The workgroup name is the same on all computers. I had to reset the workgroup name on the Sony, because for some reason the Windows 7 upgrade renamed the workgroup name to WORKGROUP without asking. I reset it to the name used on all our mchines. The only variable changed is the Windows 7 upgrade.
