I already have the envy, you can see my specs. I want to know if it would be worth switching to a MacBook Pro. If I did, I would want windows 7 on it for sure. Is it worth it? I love windows 7, but I also love the compatibility that Apple makes with all its stuff. Apple makes decent hardware, HP seems like their machines are cheap and not well built.

I've been having this problem where my envy 14 laptop will attempt to go into sleep mode (or i'll close the lid) when in reality the screen just shuts off and everything else continues to run. At this point I can't wake the computer up and I have to hard reboot. If i leave the laptop in this pseudo sleep long enough it will just crash and I get the safe mode options upon rebooting.
I've rolled back graphics drivers and then updated again to no avail, I've run a system restore to no avail, I've reset all the power management settings to allow for sleep and changed the multimedia sharing options to allow for sleep as well, I've run multiple anti virus scans AND turned off all unnecessary start up programs, still, to no avail.
I have a lot of memory.dmp files all from this past week, how would i go about sharing and reading one of those?
I just purchased a HP Envy 14 with Windows 7 preloaded. The boot time is incredibly long from start to finish. Several minutes at the windows flag, a while on a black screen before the login screen and then I have to wait another 2-3 minutes after I login before I can smoothly use the laptop. I have updated the system and installed the drivers for my mouse. I have installed League of Legends, GOM player, AIMP, AIM, Google Chrome, Open Office, Steam, and Starcraft 2. Does anyone know whats wrong? I read somewhere that the harddrive might not be getting enough power quickly enough to boot due to a faulty connection.

Is there the same data on the D like on the C?The arms on the C are destroyed I guess everything else is working. I was thinking to get the same hdd drive and swap either the (double platters or the heads) but if I can do it differently I will refrain from taking the hdd apart.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased HP Envy 4-1025 TX which came preinstalled with Windows Home Basic X64bit. Since it was having a single partition of 500 GB, i decided to do partition and for that i used bootable USB Drive to make 2 partitions, one of 50 GB and other of remaining space. After partitioning i abort the process in middle and then pressed F11 for system recovery but that didn't worked and finally i used that bootable USB Drive only to clean install Windows Home Basic. My problem is that i want to restore system to factory image using recovery partition since activation would be a issue. Now i tried many steps to use recovery partition like I made recovery partition as active and then boot but it is not working and rather windows opens up. I also did try to change letter of recovery partition to D: but that also didn't help. I also tried HP UEFI Update but that is also not working and giving error that your drive already has 4 partitions. The remaining disk space of about 395 GB is also unallocated, i can't allocate it since when i try to allocate it, it gives error that there is no space for new partition as MBR is full.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI re-installed my copy of windows 7 Home Premium, went to HP's website and installed the drivers I thought were needed. My network controller still displays the little yellow triangle. Wireless doesn't work at all, and wired just says "internet unavailable" (something along those lines) and has the yellow triangle next to it. I tried re-installing the network controller drivers but it seems they are installed because it just asks if I would like to uninstall or repair. Heres the page I downloaded drivers from. All the links seem to take me to the same drivers, I believe my model is HP ENVY 14t-1000. Tried downloading the drivers for HP ENVY 14t-1000 CTO Notebook PC, and HP ENVY 14-1000xx Notebook PC so far no luck.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI reckon that I must have changed some setting somewhere - when viewing websites (in Firefox or explorer), all websites seem to have lost their formatting - they are white with few graphics, and plain boxes around text. What needs to be changed to get this back to normal web viewing? Also, even if I try to change the theme through the control panel, there is no change to anything other than the desktop image. The appearance of the windows stays the same ugly chrome colour! I'm running Windows 7 on an HP Envy laptop...

I downloaded the RC ISO and burned it to a DVD and tried to install it on my MacBook Pro, but the DVD won't boot. I hold down C during boot, they gray screen comes up and the disc spins real fast for a while, but nothing happens.
I have read that the ISO created isn't ISO compliant so you have to create an ISO that is. I followed the instructions here to do that. This didn't make a difference.
I didn't have any problems installing the Beta, but the RC won't boot.
I would like to dual boot Windows 7 and Mac OS X 10.6 on my Macbook Laptop. I want Windows 7 to be the main OS on the laptop with the Mac OS on a smaller partition. I've done dual booting before but never on a Mac.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi`ve tried to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my Macbook Pro 13" (mid 2010) with a brand new "Intel X-25-M 80Gb SSD" which i have just replaced from the older Hitachi HDD.I had no problems at all installing win 7 on the HDD so the problem came after i put the SSD in the Macbook.This is what i have done so far,
1. Created a windows partion in Bootcamp from OS X.
2. Starting the win 7 installation DVD and choose language, time etc.
3. When asked for upgrade or custom i choose custom install.
Now here`s the problem, when i`m asked where i wan`t to install windows there are no drives at all in the list, it`s completely empty and it`s also asking me for the needed drivers?I have done some research myself and have found that several others having the same problem, that the installation manager isn`t detecting any disk. I have had a Windows workgroup for years, linking PCs and Macs as well as a Linkstation Network Drive through a Time Capsule Router/Hard Drive Combo. Immediately after upgrading from Vista Business to Windows 7 Professional on my Sony Vaio VGN-Z750D, I can see the Time Capsule and MacBook but can not access the MacBook Pro. I am able to access the Linkstation and the Time Capsule. However, the system does not ask me for a username and password when I try to access the MacBook Pro, and I get an error message that Windows cannot access the MacBook. The problem seems to be on the Windows 7 end, for I am able to access the Sony on the MacBook Pro.
The workgroup name is the same on all computers. I had to reset the workgroup name on the Sony, because for some reason the Windows 7 upgrade renamed the workgroup name to WORKGROUP without asking. I reset it to the name used on all our mchines. The only variable changed is the Windows 7 upgrade.
I am considering installing Windows 7 Professional on a Macbook Pro using Bootcamp and partitioning the hard drive. I understand that when you do that your computer is then prone to viruses. But I was wondering, if you get a virus using Windows 7 on a Mac, does it only effect the Windows Partition or does it effect the whole Hard Drive?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have the latest macbook pro 15 inch. I have installed windows 7 build 7100 on it via bootcamp. Most things are working but the box is running very hot. At idle I see 75C on the GPU and 60C on the processor. The fans will not come on until 80C. I don't want to run my computer at 80C. I talked to Apple and they told me that there was no way to change the EFI settings. They also told me that Windows 7 had no way to manage the fan settings via Apple's EFI. Is this true?
I downloaded speedfan and it was not able to control the fans.
i've got a macbook running Windows 7, and i want to dualboot it and get osx back on there. should be easy, osx on a macbook, right? **** me.
i did a bit of homework first, and reviewed what other people have done for dualbooting, but all of the threads are ancient and address different specific issues so here are the steps i went through:
-created a second partition in Windows 7, ntfs, made it active
-rebooted with an authentic osx snow leopard disc
-osx installation startup began
-went into disk utility to format it to "journalled" and get this error: "Volume Erase failed with the error: Could not modify partition map"
it won't let you install until the disk is formatted correctly..

my desktop see's my mac on the network and can connect to its shared folders but my mac can't see the desktop. my other laptops at home runing windows xp and ubuntu can see the desktop too, so i don't know what is wrong! workgroup is the same.

Apparently, AMD isn't going to be updating the driver for the 4800 series to Windows 8 (which really ticks me off...). That is why I'm considering nVidia for the first time. Few things I want to do with a new card:
- Gaming at 1920x1080 graphics maxed, or close to at frame rates of at least 60.
- Some bitcoin mining (nothing serious, just curious about it), and possibly some other GPGPU related stuff.
Also, the card needs to work well in both Windows and Linux x64 as I use both. The only nVidia Ive ever worked with was an old Quadro FX 1400, which I put into a Dell Optiplex GX280, and it runs great under Linux and Windows.
From an end-user perspective, what's the functional difference between XP Mode and something like DOSBox?I get the impression that it's not a matter of one being better than the other or a matter of preference, but rather a matter of being different tools for different jobs.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am so frustrated. I have been routinely using refilled ink cartridges in my HP All-in-One Officejet J6450 printer. The last time I replaced both of the ink cartridges I had to deal with getting around HPs by now usual messages and other interferences designed to disrupt my printing experience including having to uninstall and reinstall the printer, and then re-registering it with HP online. (Perhaps I invited these problems by registering in the first place?! Note to self!) But, with this last cartridge change HP has gone too far! I am no longer able to print any document I send to the printer-period! Every time I try to send a doc to the printer the HP Solution Center sends me a message that there is a printer error-yeah, an error that comes from HPs evil end! I know the printer is functioning properly on its own as I can print test pages and make copies just fine.I would love to know what I can do to "unsabotage" my printer. I should have every right to use whichever ink cartridge I choose that does not infringe on HPs patented ink formulas.This feels like a personal attack when my family's and my own work is so arbitrarily disrupted!

Sometimes though I seem to get edits (deletions and overwrites) that I really do not want. Is there a better solution for syncing large amounts of files? I am starting to try out using SkyDrive, but I�m not totally comfortable with putting sensitive documents online, also I often use my notebook without any internet access and I would like to be able to have a local copy available. Optimally I would like to be able to have a master drive that both desktop and notebook sync their local versions to.
