View 4 RepliesThere are strange icons when I am in Windows 7 with Office 2007. I first noticed this when I needed to do a project. Because of the lack of new software, I had to save the file in the doc file format. Then, when I tried to open it to edit it, I noticed that the file icon was not right. It was the blank file icon with the Word 2007 icon on it. Then, I noticed that the rtf files have the correct file icon for doc files. The files can still open, but the wrong icon drives me nuts!

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm desperately trying to change the sidebar gadget to open websites by default with Mozilla Firefox (in particular, the "Ask LEO" gadget).
Firefox is my default browser. If I double-click on a .url file saved on my system, it correctly opens Firefox, and so does clicking a link in MS Outlook. Again, Firefox is default, but that's not my problem.
Somewhere I found the advice to change the "Set program access and computer defaults" settings. So I tried, but every time I change something there, it doesn't keep the setting. I click on Custom => Default Web Browser => Mozilla Firefox, click OK, get some flashing on desktop, but next time I get there it's set back to "Use current browser" again.
Anyone got the same problem? I'm using the 7100 (x86) build, but a friend of mine tried the same on the final build (x64) and he got the same problem. It's reverting all the time. Re-installed Firefox, restarted, changed/tried/reset everything I can imagine.
Edit: It seems the problem is a Javascript-call "window.open" in the "Ask LEO" gadget. Someone knows why this call opens IE and every other call doesn't? And is there a workaround?
Edit2: With a dirty hack I solved the problem. Edited the gadget and replaced "window.open" by "System.Shell.execute". Still - I'd like to know why a) I can't change the default programs setting and b) why window.open ignores my default browser configuration.
I want to save the Default Gateways in Advance TCP/IP Settings for my network adapter. I used the following sequence to set the values:
1. Open Adapter Settings (LAN Properties).
2. Select IPv4 and click on Properties.
3. Click Advance.
4. In the Popup select to add Default Gateways for both my Wired and Wireless network.
5. Click OK to close all open windows.
When I again open the settings, the changes in Default Gateways are all gone. The default gateway for both my wired and wireless network are same and both are connected to internet. I want to prefer wired over wireless whenever it is connected. I already tried changing Interface Metrics with no use at all. I searched the internet and got the information to select the default gateways with proper metrics.
I normally use Word 2003 for documents, although I use Outlook 2010. This morning I opened a Word 2010 document and after quite a while of some sort of an installation, I was able to open the Word 2010 document. I did not think too much of it, except that later I was sending an e-mail and attached a Word 2003 document and when I went to check it (i.e. open it up) it opened in Word 2010. How do I disable Word 2010 as my default program to open Word documents. I do not want to uninstall the program, but at this point I am not ready to learn how to use Word 2010.

The auto text options are all there but they do not work if I type the first three or four letters. They do work, however, if I open a blank document, but not in this particularly letterhead.I know when I first starting using the new computer, it asked me about saving the normal doc on this particular document and I don't remember if I did or did not. After that I believe is when it was no longer Only with this particular document with letterhead. I tried deleting the normal doc and copying from another computer, but still the same problem.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSo. Running XP.2 (can't run XP.3; it kills Adobe's CS2 apps, which I need). Had a spare partition. Before putting Ubuntu back on it, I figured I'd install the Win7 Ultimate that'd come (unused) with another computer.
(The install was smooth enough. The updates were slower'n snail poo. But after turning almost everything back to the Windows Classic theme, it's almost bearable. Only two of my devices were unrecognized and unsupported, and they're no surprise; the tablet's nearly twenty years old (even the manufacturer doesn't support it) and the scanner's older still.)
Installed copies of my must-have software--Office 2003 (I've had to suffer through Office 2007, and will never ever ever put it on a machine I have to work on), Photoshop and InDesign CS2, Winamp .
I got my first real exposure to User Access Levels when, the first time I ran Word 2003, Win7 wouldn't let me save the new Normal.dot. I later went and copied my much-customized normal.dot from its XP location, so the file's at least there.
But: I run Word on a portrait-oriented monitor. Under XP, Word remembers the window size and position, and it's exactly where I want it, all the time. So far, every time in Win7 I've opened up an existing document, the Word window has instantly shrunk to around 40% of the size it's supposed to be.
I'm curious if this is a cling-on permissions issue with normal.dot under Win7, or a registry setting that simply hasn't gotten made (in XP, Word seemed to take care of remembering where I put and closed it by itself). Did a search, but didn't see any questions that seemed to relate to this, so I'll ask.
(I'm trying to like Windows 7, I really am. I don't much, but I'm trying. I don't mind the thought of getting a new tablet, and I've got another scanner I can use. But I really dislike having to resize my windows every time I open a document--I spend 75% of my time on the PC in Word, just writing.)
And again, I hate, loathe and despise Office 2007 and 2010. I do most emphatically not like the "death by honey and marshmallows" interface that microsoft seems to think is so great.
since I installed SP1 for Office 2010 I have problems with opening some (not all!) older Word documents created with Word 2003 (*.doc). I get a message that Word can't read the document and it is probably corrupt. On a other client (same OS, Office 2010 without SP1) I can open the same document without difficulty.

View 1 Replies View RelatedNow, just 3 days ago It started the BSOD issue.I realize that my GPU was the cause of this issue. When playing games or open 3d applications the temp goes 30C to 72C (In 15 seconds) then 82C - 85C constant (in about 30 seconds). Now I've been using MSI afterburner to check my temps and at fulload my GPU will be at 62-72C max temperature but now it's 10C even higher then before. No, I haven't fiddled with the voltage I set the GPU voltage to 1.037v which is the safest (been running this almost 8 months!). The GPU is the GTX 560ti.Is there a way to set the GPU on default settings or reset GPU settings in cmd or other professional way. I have uninstalled the drivers, uninstalling GPU, disabled GPU, disabled PCI-E slot and so on by using device manager and the issue still persist. Yes, I also have clean the GPU perfectly and still the temperature goes up to 82 seconds at 30seconds-45seconds. Yes, I have checked everything is set correctly and so on, I am a PC Tech.
Is the GPU damaged? Yes I have looked at this thread: Stop 0x124 - what it means and what to try Mainly, I know its the GPU straight away, I tried checking old drivers, new drivers, another GPU overclocked software such as GPU tweak and EVGA Precision. I am thinking it's the GPU is damaged or the PCI-E is damaged (I have another PCI-E slot on my system and the issue still there). It might be the PCI-E frequency? but it's set to 100 which it meant to be, I just hope is software related because I don't have the money to buy a new card. Did the dump files help?

I'm trying to migrate from WLM2011 to Outlook 2003 and I have run into a brick wall on importing my email accounts. Microsoft has extensive help pages on migrating TO Windows Live Mail, but apparently they do't think anyone would ever want to go FROM Windows Live Mail.
There is a good article at Migrate from Outlook Express or Windows (Live) Mail to Outlook | HowTo-Outlook which covers migrating the messages and contacts, but no one seems to have found any way to get your account data from WLM into Outlook. WLM will export the account data as iaf files (just like Outlook Express did) but Outlook doesn't recognize the iaf files.
I found a couple of old Outlook help pages that talk about importing IAF files, but the procedure shown does not work because Outlook doesn't ever give you any chance to tell it where to look for the IAF files, it just says "No internet accounts were found to import"

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I was using Word 2007 under XP I never had a problem with it not opening, or closing while in use. Now that I am using WIndow7 64-bit, I regularly have the problem that:
A. If I try to open Word directly, I often get a message that "There is a problem with Word. Windows is searching for a solution." (Paraphrased.) Invariably the result is that Word shuts down. The only recourse I have found is to restart the computer. Happens several times a day.
B. Sometimes even while working with a document, I get the same message and result. The error occurs more often if I have a document open and then try to open another one.
I don't recall the same problem with Excel 2007, and have only used Power Point 2007 once (no problem at that time). Is there a way to "repair" word 2007? Must I reinstall it? HP Pavilion p6247, Athlon CPU, 2.3 GHz, Windows 7 64-bit; Microsoft Office 2007 Pro.
