General Mail Failure - Routing Recipient In Word 2003
Oct 23, 2009
I've loaded Windows 7 and Office 2003 on my desktop. However whenever I try to Route Recipient from Word it start by giving me a message that says.A program is strying to access e-mail addresses you have stored in Outlook. Do you want to allow this? If this is unexpected, it may be a virus and you should choose "No".I respond to Allow access and then choose a recipient from my address book to send to only to receive this message.General mail failure. Close Microsoft Office Word, restart the mail system and try again. I've tried closing word and Outlook and restarting them with no success. I've researched and found this problem when Vista was first released but the registry entry fixes identified as work arounds there don't work. how we can still use the routing recipient in Word 2003 while in Window 7.

I've been having an issue with Outlook 2003. I've had to rebuild my computer, and in doing so, reloaded Office 2003 and I use Outlook as my email reader. For some reason, when Outlook 2003 downloads One (1) particular recipient, it converts their emails to text only. 100's of others come in as HTML and I have no issues with their emails?
This occurred after the rebuild. When I received emails from this person prior to the rebuild their emails came in just fine as HTML. Nothing was changed to the best of my knowledge?
Computer:
Home build ASUS Mainboard
AMD Athlon II X4 620
Windows 7 Professional 32bit SP1
Office 2003
AVG 2012 Free Edition (Email Protection Active)

One of our customers has a problem when trying to use this method.
When he right clicks a document (whether it's .pdf, .doc etc etc) and clicks "Send to", and then clicks "Send to mail...", the only thing that happens is that a empty dialog box appears, with the title "Error", and a confirmation box that says "OK".
When he then clicks "OK", nothing happens.
I played around a bit with default programs and associations, and ended up with removing the "Send to mail..." option completely.
I have tried to right click --> send to --> send to mail on my own computer, and it works flawlessly.
The user is running Windows 7 pro on a Dell Latitude E4300.
The default mail program is Lotus Notes v. 8.5, but Outlook is also installed and is associated with all e-mail options except the "mailto:" protocol and the ".mapimail" filetype. These two are associated with Lotus Notes.
The user wants to be able to send documents by using this method, and use it so Lotus Notes is the mail-program used for right click --> Send to --> Send to mail... option.
Is there any ideas around this problem? Please do not hesitate to ask about more info.

I am missing the mail recipient option in the sub menu off Send To. I have checked that it is in the send to folder and it is in the shell. The other user on the computer can do this. So I copied that icon and replaced the one that was not working. Same result. I have checked the program defaults. I am using Windows 7 and Outlook 2010.

I normally use Word 2003 for documents, although I use Outlook 2010. This morning I opened a Word 2010 document and after quite a while of some sort of an installation, I was able to open the Word 2010 document. I did not think too much of it, except that later I was sending an e-mail and attached a Word 2003 document and when I went to check it (i.e. open it up) it opened in Word 2010. How do I disable Word 2010 as my default program to open Word documents. I do not want to uninstall the program, but at this point I am not ready to learn how to use Word 2010.

Yesterday my computer just went into a sleep mod, after rebooting the PC the screen resolution + internet was really weird. After installing new driver for my graphic card the resolution problem was fixed. But the internet was still "broken". In the network and sharing -> adapter it's says that I'am enabled but not connected.
I've tried:
- Ping 127.0.0.1 and got "Transmit failed. General failure".
- Net stock winmgmt + netsh etc.
- Uninstalled the firewall.
- Turned off the computer for 10 min and removed my RAM for 10 min.
- Got a new network adapter.
- System restore.

For some reason, auto text does not work in one document that I have with a letterhead. Sometimes it does and other times not. The auto text options are all there but they do not work if I type the first three or four letters. They do work, however, if I open a blank document, but not in this particularly letterhead.I know when I first starting using the new computer, it asked me about saving the normal doc on this particular document and I don't remember if I did or did not. After that I believe is when it was no longer Only with this particular document with letterhead. I tried deleting the normal doc and copying from another computer, but still the same problem.

I have WINDOWS 7 32 bit, with MS OFFICE STANDARD 2003. WORD docs. take at least 2 mins. to open - and to save. This applies to docs. saved on MY DOCS and new docs received as e-mail attachments. The strange thing is that this was not the case when first getting the new PC with WIndows 7 -- it has developed within the past month and is most inconvenient as I work with MS Word docs. daily. I changed my antivirus from AVG to Avast, but no improvement re. the MS Word docs.

In windows 7, in my email program, a Word 2003 doc will not open. I must save the file to a folder, and then open it. This is the only type of file for which this occurs. I have gone thru the Default Programs drill and tried all types of options, but with no success.

sporadic (4 out of 10) issues with saving files. Opens file from the network (AD) drive adds data which takes about 10 min. then saves the file. The save appears to be successful then user closes file and gets file permissions erro Yes or No to save file to another location or change name. They save it to another location. The original file disappears from the network drive.

So. Running XP.2 (can't run XP.3; it kills Adobe's CS2 apps, which I need). Had a spare partition. Before putting Ubuntu back on it, I figured I'd install the Win7 Ultimate that'd come (unused) with another computer.
(The install was smooth enough. The updates were slower'n snail poo. But after turning almost everything back to the Windows Classic theme, it's almost bearable. Only two of my devices were unrecognized and unsupported, and they're no surprise; the tablet's nearly twenty years old (even the manufacturer doesn't support it) and the scanner's older still.)
Installed copies of my must-have software--Office 2003 (I've had to suffer through Office 2007, and will never ever ever put it on a machine I have to work on), Photoshop and InDesign CS2, Winamp .
I got my first real exposure to User Access Levels when, the first time I ran Word 2003, Win7 wouldn't let me save the new Normal.dot. I later went and copied my much-customized normal.dot from its XP location, so the file's at least there.
But: I run Word on a portrait-oriented monitor. Under XP, Word remembers the window size and position, and it's exactly where I want it, all the time. So far, every time in Win7 I've opened up an existing document, the Word window has instantly shrunk to around 40% of the size it's supposed to be.
I'm curious if this is a cling-on permissions issue with normal.dot under Win7, or a registry setting that simply hasn't gotten made (in XP, Word seemed to take care of remembering where I put and closed it by itself). Did a search, but didn't see any questions that seemed to relate to this, so I'll ask.
(I'm trying to like Windows 7, I really am. I don't much, but I'm trying. I don't mind the thought of getting a new tablet, and I've got another scanner I can use. But I really dislike having to resize my windows every time I open a document--I spend 75% of my time on the PC in Word, just writing.)
And again, I hate, loathe and despise Office 2007 and 2010. I do most emphatically not like the "death by honey and marshmallows" interface that microsoft seems to think is so great.

since I installed SP1 for Office 2010 I have problems with opening some (not all!) older Word documents created with Word 2003 (*.doc). I get a message that Word can't read the document and it is probably corrupt. On a other client (same OS, Office 2010 without SP1) I can open the same document without difficulty.

There are strange icons when I am in Windows 7 with Office 2007. I first noticed this when I needed to do a project. Because of the lack of new software, I had to save the file in the doc file format. Then, when I tried to open it to edit it, I noticed that the file icon was not right. It was the blank file icon with the Word 2007 icon on it. Then, I noticed that the rtf files have the correct file icon for doc files. The files can still open, but the wrong icon drives me nuts!

I have just installed windows 7 64-bit on my laptop, and also Outlook 2003 as my email sotware. When a new mail arrives, I receive a new mail notification in the taskbar, but it disappears automatically after approximately 35 seconds. So if I am away from the computer for more than 35 seconds I have no way of knowing that new mail has arrived without opening Outlook every time.

I have recently upgraded to Win 7 Pro 64-bit with Office 2003 SP3 all updates done.I use Firefox 3.6.12 as my main browser. I have noticed on websites that have an contact via email that nothing happens when double clicking it, other than seeing mailto: appearing on FF status bar.At other times I have seen it produce an error window in Outlook saying script isn't running/ Outlook client isn't installed properly. On second bootable drive, with Win XP Pro and Firefox with same Outlook 2003, it works flawlessly. Even if Outlook isn't open, it will start it up straight into new message with correct email address in the To field.

I have Windows 7. I have tried to change all my security settings but nothing will allow me to open links in Outlook mail. I started having this problem after I upgraded from XP to Windows 7.

I'm trying to print out a christmas card list using mail merge in Word. I've entered the names and addresses and the list is fine but when I try to print the addresses on the envelopes, they don't align properly on the envelopes. I've tried different size envelopes from the list provided by Word but the only two that print properly are the size 6 3/4 and the size 9. Unfortunately, I cannot find christmas cards that size. I also tried the custom option on the envelope list to size an envelope but that doesn't work either.
On the menu, I've tried manually adjusting the position of the address block instead of using the auto choice but that doesn't work either. I use an H P C 4700 series printer and I am inserting the envelope properly (along the left side of the paper feed). I've also downloaded lotus symphony and open office in the hope that the printing would work in their wps but there was a file recognition problem. I have used Word 2002 and the Microsoft Word Starter 2010 and my printer works fine.

I have Office 2007 Home & Student Edition.I use Windows Live Mail for my email client.I installed the office product, and created a new Word Document.I click on the Office Button on top, select SEND TO EMAIL.. expecting Windows Live Mail to show up (set as my default mail program.) Instead I get this error: Logon Failed. You Must log on to Microsoft Exchange to Access your address book. Error Code: "unspecified Error".So I figure, Ok, maybe Office 2007 is new (even thought it's 2010 now), and there might be some fixes.I downloaded the SP2 for Office 2007, thinking this must be a common problem.. as my computer is BRAND new.I JUST installed Windows Live Mail on it... and Just installed Office 2007. I haven't had it for more than a few hours.I install the SP2 Patch for OFF2007 fine. I do some searching and find many Microsoft threads which indicate how to "use a Non-MS Email client with Office 2007" - Now wait! Isn't Windows Live Mail an MS product? So then, I find many other forums where they indicate you can click SEND TO EMAIL 3 times and it will work. So... Just to confirm the mind of the hive is alive and well.

I had some problems with my laptop and had to re-install my OS. I made a image backup of my HD with Acers's backup manager only to find it doesn't restore my data at all. (According to Acer this has become a common problem with the backup manager). I also made a copy of my HD luckily.
After spending some time on Google I discovered that the contacts, send emails and received emails were stored as an .eml file. I thought all was well and started searching through the copied data and found nothing. On top of that I discovered that the directory sections where the supposed files are stored, is not the same on the newly installed OS as it is on the copied data. For example:The copied data I searched in was under Users>username)>AppData>Local>Windows Live (or first) Microsoft>Windows Live but the new OS directory doesn't look the same. The windows Live 2011 I used before backing up was part of an update in the beginning of 2011 from MS and the one installed now I found on another site and then windows updated the rest. My OS must be the same as it's from a hidden partition on my Acer .
I have seen some XML files and don't know if this is a similar data file for WML.
