I have cable internet. Do I need a second modem for the second computer. I have a router and modem hooked up to the first computer, I have wirless for my laptop. Having trouble getting second computer hooked up.

I like every thing about the way it works. The problem is I also have a redirect virus that prohibits me from useing visiting web pages. I get "redirected" every time.What I want to do is use the windows7 for storing data, e-mail(there is no problem with the e-mail).And use the dell - windows XP for surfing.Can this be done with out the use of a router? View 8 Replies View RelatedHave a small home network that has 1 desktop, 3 laptops, and tablet PC. The laptops are wireless and use Vista Home Premium and Windows 7). The desktop is hooked directly to the router via Ethernet (an Acer the problem PC).The router is WRTU54G-TM with the latest firmware, with security on it set to WPA-Personal and TKIP encryption. It hooks into cable modem. The Acer has a NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet NIC that came with system. Driver is 73.0.6.0 dated 4/30/2009. The system is less than a year old. System is Acer AX3400G-U4802 bought from Wal-mart.Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit ssigned to same Workgroup as other PCs.The Acer had problems a month ago when the power went off and on a couple of times. It then would not display a screen on the monitor. The fan and system would come on but not beep. Sent it in to Acer and they returned it saying nothing was wrong. Was able to power it up initially, but then had the display issue again. After turning system off and on multiple times I got it to come up. It won't connect to the router. Doesn't see it. In the ipconfig it was giving a 169 IP address. Seeing that DHCP was not working, I manually changed the IP to what is needed to connect to the router and used the router's gateway IP. Still no joy. The NIC cable should be fine. Tried others. Same result.
I am ready to return it again to Acer and tell them about the Internet issue. Oh, by the way checked my wall outlets and all are getting enough juice. May have to invest in a backup power supply. Here is a detail of ipconfig that I have tried (can't do advanced Windows tricks as this is the Home Premium addition and Microsoft has dumbed it down ) :

Something I've tried are booting by CD to get a new OS, but the computer will not boot by CD because it'll immediately load up the "Windows is loading files". I tried to do the command in the CMD to scan for hardware changes and repair them, but that also doesn't work. It says, "Windows is already running a scan, restart the computer and try it again." It basically won't load past the 1st screen of the computer which just states what the computer is

View 8 Replies View RelatedMy wife has Windows 7 Pro 64-bit installed on an old clone desktop. I bought new parts and have built her a screaming new desktop PC, but when I tried to do a restore from the old to the new, it failed. I figured, okay, I am moving from an Intel dual core environment to an AMD quad core with a completely different chipset, so it's making Windows gag. I bought another copy of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, since I am going to rebuild the old machine later, and installed it on the new PC. Now it seems I am going to have to reinstall and reconfigure every program that is on her old PC. What a drag!
She has many programs and customizations, such as Fruity Loops, the GIMP, the Sims 3, MS Office 2007, Blender, and many others. Most - not all - of the data files on the old PC are on a separate partition, and I have successfully "restored" it to the new system. However, Fruity Loops and some other programs insisted on using the C Drive's user/documents folder for all their data, and Fruity Loops even uses system folders for some of her music files! It's a buggy way to do things, but it's her favorite music creation program, so I am duty-bound to get it transferred.
Both printers connected to my HP desktop (win 7x64) via USB ports become inaccessible (cannot print) if the computer is left on for a day or more. When I look under Devices and Printers, it shows both printers with the troubleshooting icon (Status: needs troubleshooting). When I initiate troubleshooting, it comes back with - "troubleshooting could not identify problem." I have to reboot computer to get printers working again.

But the password didn't save correctly and now I can't get on my account. It's the only user, and whenever I try using safe mode with command prompt, it goes to the user log in screen, which defeats the purpose.In short, I need to reset my passdword, while not being able to log on in any way through the username. I would rather not have to wipe my harddrive, I have no recovery disc, nor partition for some reason. I was supposed to press one of the F keys (can't recall right now but have tried them all) and none of those work. Everything I have tried has failed. I had no difficulties downloading them from my memory card to my computer and I can view them just fine. When I go to upload them it will let me select the pictures I want and start the process, but then just keep "loading" or "thinking" for hours if I would let it. It will not upload even one photo.
View 7 Replies View Relatedmy brother gave me a new motherboard last weekend and I had to reformat consequently, since then however I have been unable to view or access my netbook or network drive. Before reformatting I was running on Windows 7 ultimate x32 and I am now running on the same however in x64 instead. I know that my network is working as I can access my network drive through my netbook but I am unable to see my computer or netbook through both devices, but seen as my net-book was able to see my pc prior to reformatting I am pretty sure it is an issue with my computer. I have done all the usual checks through the network and sharing center to ensure that everything is shared correctly and that network discovery is turned on.

It should pick up the desktop pc and also the NAS i have attached to the router as well. I can map a drive to the NAS but cannot see it in the network view. I can also open the web based browser to the NAS and the router.

When connecting to a remote computer (via Remote Desktop Connection) I can successfully see devices and settings on the remote computer in Device Manager but I am unable to change any of the device driver settings. How can I change driver settings like rolling back drivers on the remote computer?
