Your Computer Was Unable To Start - Cannot Access Safe Mode
Sep 27, 2010
I forgot to plug in my computer and the battery died. When I tried turning it back on, it takes me directly to:
"Startup Repair - Your computer was unable to start. Startup Repair is checking your system for problems. If problems are found, start up repair will fix them automatically. Your computer might restart several times during this process. No changes will be made to your personal files or information. This might take several minutes."
Followed by a loading bar that says searching for problems. After leaving this on for a while it gives the system restore option, however this just takes me back to the previous screen. I cannot cancel the Start up repair and I can't access safemode. After searching for over an hour the only solution I've found so far is reinstall the OS, however my computer did not come with the OS disc and I have school related files on the computer that I can't lose.
I am using a Toshiba Satellite A505-S6981 T6600 That's 9 months old with windows 7, Specs (To my limited knowledge) say:
C2D 56600, 4GB DDR3
16", 400 GB HD, DVDRW
Windows 7 P 64 Bit, 80211bgn

I have a Gateway desktop running windows 7 -64. While the system was powered on with no activity, it shut down and started to re-boot. Now every time I try to start the system it gives the message 'Reboot & select proper boot device or insert boot media and select'. From this screen you can't do anything. I'm not able to start in safe-mode either. I can get F12 to work to get to boot manager.

I have an HP laptop, and here are the specs I know:
HP G72 Notebook PC
Intel Core i3 2.4 GHz processor
4 GB ram
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS
Recently I was streaming a TV show off of sidereel.com and firefox froze. I switched to Internet explorer and began to watch again, but the computer began to make a "dinging" noise occasionally. I then ran a norton anti-virus sweep which turned up only a few cookies. After this, I watched lectures from my school's class that I had downloaded, and during this time, the computer froze and became unresponsive. I turned it off manually, and it has not been able to restart in normal mode since then. Every time I try to login, after I put in my password, it goes to a blue screen and says "System_Service_Exception" and then it restarts itself.
Occasionally it doesn't even make it to the windows login, and freezes at the "HP" screen in the beginning of startup.Around the same time that this problem manifested itself, there may have been a new Windows 7 update that my computer was running in the background on its own.I think the problem may be more related to the windows update than to other issues, but I have tried going to a system restore point (coincidentally, the only point available might be a restore point created by the windows update). I have no other restore points available, but I am able to access my computer in safe mode.

My computer won't startup in normal or safe mode and I was told my windows 7 may be corrupt. I am trying to reinstall it, but I'm not sure how. I place the disc in the drive and rebooted the computer but it didn't work. The system repairs won't work, nor will system restore. Is there a command prompt or anything?

my laptop looks like it has a massive problem. i have been on various forums for advice but unable to solve - this is the problem
* it turns on & I CAN get into advanced menus
* it will not repair itself no matter what
* it will not go into any other modes , safe Etc....therefore I cannot restore to factory settings etc....
* ive Tried all tricks such as F8, Alt & F11 etc..... to get into advanced menu settings - all lead to the black screen
* everything i click on enter leads to a black screen - only a white curser appears.
its as if there is no way of accessing the computer disc/ hard drive in anyway from boot up. there is clearly a hardware problem but i cannot access anything internal beyond ordinary & advanced menus i just keep being led to the black screen & no activity. the menus work & that is all.
i run Windows 7 on a Dell inspiron 1564

Like the title says, my computer is stuck on a black screen.I downloaded an update and was instructed to restart the computer. After restarting the computer it went to a black screen. It won't do anything past that. I've tried starting it in safe mode but always with the same result. I have no idea what to do with this short of taking it to Best Buy to have the geek squad take a look at it and frankly I don't feel like doing that.

After attempting to start my Laptop in Safe Mode, it loaded drivers normally only to crash a few seconds later. A prompt message appears but is impossible to read because Windows immediately reboots upon showing the prompt.

my pc semi froze, wouldn't let me access control manager and browsers forze but other applications were working. So i decided to restart my pc and upon restarting it froze on the bootup screen (windows logo). I tryed accessing safe mode but got stuck on " windowssystem32DRIVERSCLASSPNP.SYS ". Once it crashes on the boot up and I press the reset button my main drive is no longer detected by my bios but when i fully shut down the pc and start it up again it gets detected no problem. I have browsed around and I have seen a lot of people stating it was bitdefender, but as I cannot gain access to my safe mode to restore or delete it I have no idea if it really is that. I would like to hear your suggestions on the problem, I could take my ssd out and put it in an external drive and plug it into my laptop to try and delete bitdefender but as its mounted to the floor of an antec 902 and its pretty jam packed in there id need to removed my gfx cards hard drive trays, and power supply just to get to it and that is something I really dont have the time for.

So i just purchased a new computer to run World of Warcraft xDThis morning my computer wasnt working as intended. I booted it up and it went through the usual stuff, the winds logo popped up, then suddenly the screen went black and i got the message "out of range" on my monitor.I restarted the computer and the same happened again, after the windows logo, the screen goes blank.I then ran it in safe mode + networking and everything was fine !I tried "repair my computer" on the start up menu, but the PC still wouldnt run in normal mode.I tried configuring my PC to an earlier point in time, but the PC still wouldnt run in normal mode .I tried uninstalling my drivers (within safe mode) and it still wouldnt boot up in normal mode.
Could it be the monitor resolution? if so whyyyyy? it's been working fine for two weeks. Also yesterday we had about 5 random power cuts? could this have caused the problem?Everything works fine in safe mode so i think it's not a hardware problem, but normal mode just gets me to the windows logo loading screen then the monitor goes black

Windows 7 Home Premium, Emachines E725 laptop.I just got through dealing with an infection. Details in this thread:[URL] restarted and F8ed my way to Advanced Boot Options and selected Safe Mode with networking. It started up normally, got to the Users page, I selected my profile, typed in my password and the puter suddenly restarted. Huh. So I tried again and typed faster. The puter at first began to start up in safe mode then suddenly restarted. I tried one more time but this time when it got to the Profiles page I left it alone and counted. 12 seconds later it suddenly restarted by itself. So, I can not enter Safe Mode. The infection has been removed and MSE shows that it is clear. Correlation is not causation so I can not say that the Safe Mode problem is related to the infection, and I can not even remember ever starting this particular machine in Safe Mode since I bought it new.

Got a nice comp about a year ago off craigslist and havent had a single issue with it until now. I am not your typical "oh-you-mean-I-have-to-plug-it-in-to-work" end user, but neither am I an "expert". Especially in this case I'm in way over my head; a few days ago I went to slave up a buddy's HD. The mistake here was that I had always worked with ATA, not SATA. Yes, I was a temporary idiot, and no, I don't remember WHAT I was thinking. Whatever was or wasn't going through my head, I hooked up the second drive to the second clip on the (belt?). Everything started as usual until the windows loading bar; after the bar, I got a black screen, and then the computer shut itself off.On attempt #2 to startup (and removing the second hard drive), before the loading bar, I get a prompt for "Windows startup repair" or "Start windows normally". Option #1 results in "windows is loading files" for about 10 seconds, then black screen, then computer shuts itself off again. Option #2 just results in windows loading bar, black screen, then computer shuts itself off.
Error Code: 4400:11A
Msg: SCSI_0-000_DISK_GENERIC-_SD/MMC - Target not ready
After running diagnostics specifically towards this, it consistently fails the Confidence Test and consistently passes the Device Self Test (the Read Test and Verify Test options are greyed out).I've defaulted everything in the BIOS (although it says my HD is in a Raid setting, which as I understand it is for synching multiple HDs together, but the only option to change it to is ATA, which I know my HD is not). I have tried bare-bonesing the startup as well, but running only microsoft stuff I still get the same results as above, and I dont know enough to risk turning off anymore startup stuff.
The most confusing part of all is when I broke down and just decided to reformat the drive and start from scratch. Again, I could only boot from the Windows 7 CD in safe mode, and while in there I reformatted the main drive (there are 3 partitions; OEM, Recovery, and the Main). I have done this process multiple times, but the only thing I get even after reformatting the drive is more OS to choose from when starting the comp.As for computer stats I dont remember everything off the top of my head, and can't get past the setup screen now on windows, so I dont know how to check. From the dell website comes this mess: Dell Technical Support Home Page / Dell Troubleshooting Search Other than that what I can remember is:8gig ram, quadcore (cant remember gHZ), 1mb ATI Radeon vid card, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. Sorry if this isn't enough, if anyone knows of a way I can check for further info I'll be happy to oblige.

I can't boot my computer in normal mode or safe mode. When I try to do so, after the "starting windows" page the only things that come up are my mouse, a black screen/background, and a "logonui.exe-bad image- Authui.dll isn't designed to run on windows" error/message (not the exact message). I can't use a system restore (it can't find a restore point), the image recovery tool finds no image to restore from, system repair either doesn't find a problem or can't fix the problem, and basically nothing else works (none of the advanced boot options or other various buttons and tools do anything noticeable). I've even tried to use sfc in command prompt, but whenever I do any sfc things at all (/scannow, verifyonly, verifyfile, etc.) it says there is a system repair pending that requires a reboot. I've restarted 7-8 times and the exact same message keeps coming up. I'm looking for any general help I can get right now, [I can post my computer specifics in an hour when I have time](posted a few). I have an HP pavilion dv6-6135dx wiht Windows 7 x64.Processor: AMD a8-3500m APU, raedon graphics bios vender/version: insyde, f. 20.I'm having trouble getting more info because my computer is still crashing occasionally and I don't really know what else is relevant; if you need more, I might need directions on how to get it. Especially if it involves command prompt.I should also add that it has been crashing more often than I think is normal ever since I got it, but recently it BSODed 3-4 times a day. I have antivirus and also ran a full malwarebytes scan yesterday, and it only found one little issue which was resolved.

I seem to be having quite the problem on a computer of mine. After recently installing the directx sdk I am unable to logon through normal or safe mode. When I try to boot up normally, I log in but then the monitors go black but everything else seems to run. Pressing ctrl alt delete works and brings up the screen again but if I try to select task manager for example the screen goes black again. When I boot up through safe mode the computer restarts seconds after loading the windows logon screen.
