Unable To Change Driver Settings On Remote Computer
Mar 9, 2012
When connecting to a remote computer (via Remote Desktop Connection) I can successfully see devices and settings on the remote computer in Device Manager but I am unable to change any of the device driver settings. How can I change driver settings like rolling back drivers on the remote computer?
Is there any method to change group policy settings in windows 7 from a remote machine? WMI....i dont want to login and do it locally! is there any alternative for these?
I'm desperately trying to change the sidebar gadget to open websites by default with Mozilla Firefox (in particular, the "Ask LEO" gadget).
Firefox is my default browser. If I double-click on a .url file saved on my system, it correctly opens Firefox, and so does clicking a link in MS Outlook. Again, Firefox is default, but that's not my problem.
Somewhere I found the advice to change the "Set program access and computer defaults" settings. So I tried, but every time I change something there, it doesn't keep the setting. I click on Custom => Default Web Browser => Mozilla Firefox, click OK, get some flashing on desktop, but next time I get there it's set back to "Use current browser" again.
Anyone got the same problem? I'm using the 7100 (x86) build, but a friend of mine tried the same on the final build (x64) and he got the same problem. It's reverting all the time. Re-installed Firefox, restarted, changed/tried/reset everything I can imagine.
Edit: It seems the problem is a Javascript-call "window.open" in the "Ask LEO" gadget. Someone knows why this call opens IE and every other call doesn't? And is there a workaround?
Edit2: With a dirty hack I solved the problem. Edited the gadget and replaced "window.open" by "System.Shell.execute". Still - I'd like to know why a) I can't change the default programs setting and b) why window.open ignores my default browser configuration.
my media center remote will not change the volume of my computer anymore , also the volume buttons on my keyboard also do not work. i am fairly certain the a registry error or a service or policy error, but i am lost as how to re-enable them. the remote works fine otherwise and so does the keyboard.windows 7 x64 i5-2310 12 gig ram remote model number 1039 keyboard Microsoft wireless 6000 system is fully up to date.

I am new to windows 7 and I left my computer on cause I was downloading something came back like 3hrs later and noticed my computers hard drive led light and power light was blinking like every 3 seconds. I then clicked the power button and it went through bios again and said windows is resuming I think and everything was how it was when I left it but my download had stopped. So how do I make it so my computer doesn't go into sleep?
We have several remote systems that can all connect fine. I am having an issue with one box. It is a windows 7 home premium machine with netgear wireless nic. When I open mstsc to connect to a remote machine I put in the ip address and click on connect.I receive an immediate failure with the text "This computer can't connect to the remote computer. Try connecting again...blah blah"I have a server 2008 r2 with Network level authentication enabled. I have 8 other systems that are hardwired, at different geographic locations and all connect fine. I have not made any changes on the server side since this problem seems to be local to this client only. On the client I have made the following changes/observations. I have disabled the firewall, cleared the remote desktop cache, remove the MRU entries from the registry, verified that port 3389 is open via telnet. I have been bashing my head for days trying to figure out why this one box is not working. The problem occurs for every user on the box including the admin.I don't receive the box that prompts for warning if there is a server authentication issue but I think that is because I selected ignore at some point and said yes to continue. I'm not sure where that cache resides to delete that selection.
I just formatted my entire laptop (Samsung RV511) due to a bug that was in the system my antivirus could not detect or the help of system restore would not get rid of either. My previous 2 laptops came with recovery discs but the samsung had only come with the windows 7. I had installed Windows 7 and after doing so, checked everything out. I realized that Samsung has many specific programs and drivers that come with their computers and in the process of formatting, I had deleted everything. My computer is unable to connect to the Internet and I can't even change the brightness of the screen anymore.
I need the to remotely connect from Windows XP to windows 7(with the remote settings: Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop (less secure) ) enabled. And before it gives me any of my windows 7 Welcome Screen, should prompt the user on the XP machine that is trying to connect for the windows 7 credentials, just like when connecting from Windows 7 to Windows 7 with the Less secure mode in (Remote Desktop settings).
It seems my remote desktop running on my test pc in the other room has locked my theme down.
1 - It is running windows 7 ultimate so supports aero over RDP. 2 - This system running same 3 - aero is actually running the windows are transparent. 4 - desktop composition is enabled in remote desktop options and on host system. 5 - it was working fine yesterday and possibly even earlier today.
However when I select my theme it doesn't change the colour of the windows and disable glass effect and I see this in the personalization window. "One or more of the themes has been disabled by remote desktop settings". I can select and use all the default aero themes, my theme doesn't work however.

Today is the first time I have had to access my work pc remotely so went out and bought Windows 7 Home. I accessed my works VPN network via the browser (have an icon in my taskbar called "network Connect" which tell me how long I have been connected for), I was able to ping my work PC but when I tried connect via Remote Desktop I was getting an error: Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons: 1)Remote Access to the server is not enabled 2) The remote computer is turned off 3) The remote computer is not available on the network Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled."
I am trying to access my work PC remotely after doing a fresh install of windows and receiving the below:"Remote desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons:
1) Remote access to the server is not enabled 2) The remote computer is turned off 3) The remote computer is not available on the network
Make sure the remote computer is turned on and connected to the network, and that remote access is enabled."I have established some sort of VPN connection through the browser with work (sorry I am not very technically inclined, icon says "network connect" in the taskbar and shows I am conected), our techie guy said then just run Remote Desktop and type in my computer name and should connect, which it is not.
Very recently I started having a problem with the remote desktop where it says the following message:
"Your computer could not connect to another console session on the remote computer because you already have a console session in progress."
What I am trying to do is to access my Vista Ultimate computer using my Windows 7 Ultimate computer, and have been doing so this way for more than a year. All of a sudden I start getting the message that I have quoted. I do not know why it started doing that.As well, going in the Users tab of task manager you can see there that I am logged in as a console user.
I sign into an emulator for work and have to use my F keys a lot.I hate having to hold down the FN key at the bottom of the keyboard just to use my keys. Does anyone know how to turn off the settings of the F keys and use them as they are mapped on my emulator? My laptop is an HP Pavilion dv6
How would I go about changing the set up of my second drive (It will have Win 7 clean install on it) from Status "None", Type "Logical" to "System" and "Primary" also what should the setting be for the balance of the drive that will contain directories and etc? I have Easeus Partition Master and Partition Wizard but I never did a partition before.
have 1 computer operating 7 ultimate and 1 operating home premium cannot connect to the laptop under home premium. On the laptop when i go into change homegroup settings all boxes except printers are un-ticked. When I tick all the boxes then 'save changes' all seems ok until I go into change homegroup settings again I find all the boxes except printers are un-ticked again. I can't seem to keep these boxes ticked - I suspect this is why I cant access the laptop within the homegroup.
I can hover over the link but I do not get the cursor to change into a "fist" it remains as it would if writing a Word document.I cannot recall changing settings and I have searched through Yahoo help but cannot seem to find a solution. I though perhaps that it could be that I have e-mails in plain text not html, but cannot find where to check. However I do get images in e-mails and so don't think it is plain text. How can I restore the function to be able to click hyperlinks? I am running Windows 7, 64 bit version, and Yahoo Mail classic.
On my Mac there is a setting to change the scroll bar so it jumps to the spot I click instead of moving page down or up. How can I do this in Windows 7?

I'm currently running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit and have a Crucial M4 SSD on the way!I will be doing an image. What are the settings I need to change in Windows 7 to get the most out of this SSD?
The laptop is an Acer Aspire 5732Z, the specs are: CPU - T4400 RAM - 3.00 GB OS - Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, no SP1 yet the hard drive is about 250gb, with most of that space free, and just 1 visible partition.
It has 2 problems 1) It takes a long time to boot up, it used to be excessively slow in windows but removing Norton 360 seems to have solved that part. I can time it if needed. 2) A lot of the programs on the system are blocked by windows security, causing the orange "These files can't be opened" error message to pop up.
These include gfxUI.exe (the UI for the onboard graphics), the installer for Crap Cleaner, the installer for Service Pack 1, the add new user window, and a load of other files I don't have a list of. There's only 1 account on the system, and it's an admin account. I've tried to use the run as admin option where possible.
Here's what I've done so far: - Reinstalled intel graphics drivers, no effect - Ran a startup repair, after an hour it hadn't loaded. - Uninstalled norton 360, system speed improved by several hundred times, otherwise no effect, and bootup time still seems as long. - Gone into windows firewall and reset all settings to default, no effect. - Tried to change the settings in internet security, set everything low except for my computer, which is locked, no effect - Gone into internet security and clicked set all zones to default, no effect
I tried to install SP1 (after failing several times before due to the system being too slow to install it), security blocked it, then apparently deleted the installer. I tried to make a new user account, to copy the registry settings for the security to overwrite the faulty settings on the main account, the new user account window was blocked by security.
In a cmd window run as admin, used command secedit /configure /cfg %windir%infdefltbase.inf /db defltbase.sdb /verbose gave a progress report, completed, no effect.
I backed up important data, tried to reinstall windows from scratch, the installer doesn't load, after clicking install now it just starts loading and doesn't stop. At this point, I thought it must be a hardware issue, so I tried to run some diagnostics from a bootable CD. It wouldn't read the CD.

Our .Net application has a menu option to launch Bluetooth Settings (MSFT stack). The program uses "bthprops.cpl". This worked fine on XP.Now when I run the program in Windows 7, it launches windows explorer with "Control PanelHardware and SoundDevices and printers" location.Using the Control Panel -> search for "Bluetooth" and select "Change Bluetooth Settings" will display the bluetooth settings fine.
