Restore Zip File Download Function To Open Zip Attachments?
Nov 3, 2011
I'm not computer savvy but I can follow directions pretty well. Recently, I've discovered I cannot open any Zip files from my computer. I get an Adobe Acrobat error message saying I cannot open file because it is either not supported or file is damaged. This message comes up every time I try to open a zip file, no matter the source. I suspect it may be a default association problem based on the research I have done but I don't know how to correct the issue. As I said, I don't know a lot about operating systems.
I changed appropriate permissions and copied the windows mail folder from vista to Windows 7. It worked great and I thought all was well till I got an email with an attachment .eml. The error was the classic "windows cannot open this file.. . no program is associated" etc., message. I saved the .eml attachment to desktop, created the association to winmail.exe, and double clicked it. It opened winmail, in the same manner as though I had just clicked the short cut to winmail.exe. Without opening the .eml attachment.
I've also replaced Windows 7's msoe.dll with Vista's, again to no avail.
Also as I'm searching around, I'm running into "wisperings" of the possible need to keep a copy of Vista functional so that I can download windows mail updates to install in windows 7.
It may just prove to be not worth the hassle. It's a shame. I LIKED O.E., settled for Windows Mail, and am disgusted with Windows Live Mail!!
People send me photos, documents, etc with the attachments and Im unable to open them. When I click on them, it tries to open with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 / enter a Product key. I dont have that program installed. The people who are sending me these things dont have the program either. How can I set it to open in a different program?
I've had my laptop for a number of years now and within the past 2 years it would not allow me to do a return to factory default, so i just left it alone. But now i bought a very expensive Rosetta stone package and will not download because of my firewall. My firewall is giving me a code error five and i have tried many methods to fix it and it will not work. So i decided i have to do a Factory default for the best anyways and get rid of a bunch of items i do not use. But now i am back to my original problem, my computer will not allow me to do a return to factory default or create a factory default CD. When i try an create a CD using Gateway Recovery Management the CD progress remains at 0% for 2 straight days. So is there a way i can force a Return to factory default on my laptop.
Trying to download a GIS mapping program from Purdue Univ. Seems to download to my "Dwonloads" file. When I look at the Download folder it shows an icon with correct title, but I can't see any files when I double click on it. This is not a "file folder" icon. I get an "Open file Security Warning" pop up. Shows run or cancel. Hit run it brings up "Win Zip Self Extractor" pop up. I have already supposedly unzipped this into the downloads. Have been through the issues of downloading Google Earth and think I have worked this out.
I am trying to do my weekly back-up with the windows 7 system backup and restore, as I always use, and for some reason it is not longer responding, nor can I open the program to make any changes to the process.
Save to / Open From RECENT FOLDER functionIs anyone aware of an Windows 7 compatible Save/Open add-in that allows userto see a list of recently used folders when SAVING or OPENING files from windows dialog boxes?'ve seen version for XP and Vista, but nothing for Windows 7.Its a very necessary feature unless you like always clicking to get to your stuff is not only annoying, and maddening, but also another cause of Repetitive Stress Injuries.
I have downloaded a small file that is supposed to make a few changes to the Windows Registry. My problem is that a number of folders are locked, since I upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7.This little "take ownership" registry file looks fine, there is a tutorial attached, etc. but my problem is that the file does not get merged into the Registry. The file gets opened in Notepad. and that is all..I need help how to let the Merge function work and the opening of the file in Notepad to be avoided.
I have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine.
Whenever i take a file and put it onto the my desktop, all the permissions to the file is completely stripped. Leaving none able to open the file.I am able to go into access control and add myself again, but it makes no sense at all..
I had an unusual happening on my PC. First noticed some instability while trying to open a file from Explorer, could not scroll down to file and it was jittery. Then, every time I tried to enter on an input line, an endless string of zeros were input and I could not overide or erase. Even on Email addressees. I tried a reboot and the zeros appeared on the start up password line and I could not logon. Same thing after complete power cycle. I suspected a stuck key on the keyboard and tried a different keyboard but no help. So I tried a complete restore. At first, it seemed to have the same problem, but somehow, eventually, I got logged on and now everything seems OK. But I don't really know what caused this and fear it could happen again.
if i go to the start button to go to my computer the window will open on the first try , but say i try to go to my computer again it will just sit there and not open. the exployer window will open but not the contents inside.does not care how many times i try it will only open the window and show nothing inside , a bar will go across the top to show progress but still it will not open.if i restart the computer i can open up the my computer or just computer in W7.like right now i tried to open up the window to check my hard drive and im still waiting for it to open.this goes on on both of my computers running windows 7.all coms are updated to the fullest and im not overclocking or doing anything other normal stuff. So is there a bug or somthing that im missing , once again if i go to start , and hit computer the window will open on the first try , but if i do it to many times it will just open a window and just sit there.even further if i open it up and try to open a file it will just hang there and not open , there is no error warning or nothing.
I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64, the drives are indexed and I have all folder search options set to "Always search file names and contents" and "Include system directories" and "include compressed files" but search is not finding content I know to be present.
For example text in Word Docs and content in Zip files are often not found, usually not. How do I set up Search so it actually searches "within contents" like it does in XP, which may be slower but at least it works.
there is a file named "Tracing" in my system folder (the folder that contain my music, my documents, my pictures etc). Inside the tracing folder is there wppmedia and other things
My system restore won't open. The OS on my computer is windows 7. After installing winzip from the internet, some icons of some programs on my desktop has faded, and clicking them gives the message "choose the program you want to use to open this file." I tried to do a system restore, but it does not open when i click it, even in safe mode. i did a virus scan with my mcafee antivirus plus but it does not detect any issues and my malwarebytes antimalware icon is also faded and won't open.
I accidentally changed all of my my icon settings to Adobe Programs. So when ever i try opening say 'Google chrome' icon, it 'opens with' an Adobe program page. So how do i change the icons back to their original settings? so one they have their original icon (the Google chrome icon instead of the Adobe icon) and they open in their original program.

I'm on a network where I keep my files but I'm very aware of whether or not these might be open elsewhere. From time to time at any old time of the day (randomly it seems in other words) I'll go in and try to arrange, rename, or get rid of files and I'll get "The action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer. Close file and try again". Except that the file ISN'T open anywhere.
I cannot open the Win 7 Backup & Restore program, though it has worked OK in the past.I recently installed Spotmau Data Backup Kit and, thinking this might have affected the Windows program, I uninstalled it.
