View 2 Replies View RelatedI wanted to ask if it is possible to set Windows media player to open as the default player inside media center. The reason that I ask this is that I find media center sound is very low quality. I am using it inside windows 7 ultimate X64. I also use Media Browser and have set it to use media player as an external player but it loses some functionality after something is played I have to restart media center and media Browser to play anything again because it will go back to menus but not play anything untill

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy default is WMP for playing CD's and DVD's. I have a Toshiba NB 305 netbook, Windows 7. I copied a DVD from a friends LG Portable Super Multi drive (her computer is XP - in case this might be important?)to my external HD. Something from my Norton popped up earlier regarding GEAR software, but I did not understand it and so dismissed it, at the advice of a friend...I am not so computer savvy. Since then I cannot even access my Windows Media Player.

*YES* *NO* "
When I go to download it again from the Microsoft Website there is no option to download WMP 12.
Unable to open windows media player. When attempting to open windows media player 12 from the programs menu, I receive the following errormessage:"C:\WindowsSystem32wmploc.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support."The above message is followed by the following message:"Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled. Do you want to install the player from the microsoft website?"When attempting to open a media file, I receive the following:"Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled. Do you want to install the player from the microsoft website?"followed by another message stating:"Filename-Server execution failed."
However, if I locate the windows media player folder, I can open the program directly from there without any problem whatsoever. I am also able to load media without a problem.I have tried the following:-Uninstalling and reinstalling wmp via the windows features-using sfc scan-Using the Cmd Prompt to enter the ollowing:unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMPVersion
When I try to open Windows Media Player, I get this error:"The file wmplayer.exe has a version number of 11.0.6001.7000 where 12.0.7000.7000 was expected. Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled."If I follow the option to go to Microsoft's website, it takes me to a page where Windows Media 6.4 is available for Win95 and NT 4.0.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy windows media player 12 updates the libraries every time I open it, its anoying. As I remember with previous versions my libraries would update the first time player would open, then I could add particular folders I needed and it would add them, and then it would add only the stuff that was missing. Basically with older versions when i opened the player all my files were already there, with wmp 12 every time i open it my libraries are EMPTY and i have to wait for it to upload all of my music, videos, pics etc which takes a couple of minutes. I tried messing with the options but no luck. Why does it renew libraries every time i open it and how can i fix this?

View 1 Replies View Relatedhave been setting up all the *.wma files on my music web site to stream as directed by *.wax files. everything was fine in XP Pro...but now I've gone over to Windows 7; & noticed that when I click on one of the *.wma's at my site...it doesn't stream...Windows 7 instead asks me if I want to open or save the file. no matter which option I choose...it treats it as a text file (opening the *.wax in 'Notepad')

View 3 Replies View RelatedI changed appropriate permissions and copied the windows mail folder from vista to Windows 7. It worked great and I thought all was well till I got an email with an attachment .eml. The error was the classic "windows cannot open this file.. . no program is associated" etc., message. I saved the .eml attachment to desktop, created the association to winmail.exe, and double clicked it. It opened winmail, in the same manner as though I had just clicked the short cut to winmail.exe. Without opening the .eml attachment.
I've also replaced Windows 7's msoe.dll with Vista's, again to no avail.
Also as I'm searching around, I'm running into "wisperings" of the possible need to keep a copy of Vista functional so that I can download windows mail updates to install in windows 7.
It may just prove to be not worth the hassle. It's a shame. I LIKED O.E., settled for Windows Mail, and am disgusted with Windows Live Mail!!
People send me photos, documents, etc with the attachments and Im unable to open them. When I click on them, it tries to open with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2007 / enter a Product key. I dont have that program installed. The people who are sending me these things dont have the program either. How can I set it to open in a different program?

View 8 Replies View RelatedAs above, if a user opens say a Word document which is an attachment on a web-based mail system like hotmail or outlook live and the user then just clicks SAVE, the document is saved to a temporary location.
We have lots of users who are doing this and then finding that they have lost there work etc as they have assumed it was saving to a network drive or even back to the attachment (yes I know thats wrong, but students don't always know till its too late).
So my question is, is there any way of getting Word to prompt them to save the document to somewhere when they click SAVE, rather than save it in a temp area under the temporary files area on the C: drive??
Is it possible to do with a Group Policy setting or any other way round not saving the doc in temp area and forcing the user to choose the location.
if I can sync my ipod on Windows 7 Media player.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHow can I make Windows Media Player stop updating media every freaking time I start it up? It always hogs up massive amount of CPU power and goes into (Not Responding) for a min while updating.I only add media files to the Windows Explorer Library so I can get indexed searches. I don't even use WMP to view files or anything. Just to burn some music CDs sometimes.I've tried deleting the files from the WMP library but the next time I open it up, it scans and updates all my files again! Is there a way to completely purge the WMP library and make it not update ever? I've unchecked every option that seems to make it scan and update but it still does it.Basically I want to UNLINK the Windows Explorer Library from the WMP Library.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm not computer savvy but I can follow directions pretty well. Recently, I've discovered I cannot open any Zip files from my computer. I get an Adobe Acrobat error message saying I cannot open file because it is either not supported or file is damaged. This message comes up every time I try to open a zip file, no matter the source. I suspect it may be a default association problem based on the research I have done but I don't know how to correct the issue. As I said, I don't know a lot about operating systems.
