Backup and restore does not work because it points to my external J drive where my last backup was taken. However, Windows has assigned my external drive to K and is treating as one of my fixed drives whenever connected.
after i update my graphic card at the device manager and then restart my computer, my graphic change from a hd5650 radeon into a standar pnp monitor. i dunno what to do!!! how can I restore my original graphic card?
While trying to restore all the original files using SFC, I just encountered this error: SFC /scannow Found but could not fix some Corrupt files. I am trying to restore all my default files from theme modifications. I restored already all the back up files that was used by the theme patcher all the .dll's and .cpl etc. Then I run SFC just to make sure everything was restored, then that error occurs.
I can't get into pc recovery drive (D) to restore pc to original condition in two pcs. I think it is because I reinstalled Windows 7 into drive (C), which prevents pc recovery from drive (D) [because it's not the original software.I can see the recovery drive (D).Also, I used SpotMau to get the windows 7 Ultimate product key, but the lable on the pc shows that Windows7 Pro is installed. The product keys are different.
I have recently downloaded the windows theme installer and installed a new theme in my computer. After changing to the new theme and wanted to return my window theme to the original windows 7 theme, I was unable to do so.Even when I used the restore to original system file button in the window installer theme.

How can I restore win 7 to factory settings. I have a repair disk, this seems to do nothing. Restore works, but nothing changes(Ugly Virus, I have tried everything, nothing will install) I just want to start over. It is a sony vaio, I dont have an image backup. Can I just reformat or something?? How? I can get it to rec console and choose version of windows, then asks for img disk or restore. Again, restore wont work or go back far enough to do anything.

I recently had a virus/malware attack on my system, removed it, but the system is damaged (Security center & updates cant be started etc) . I want to restore the comp using the acer feature "restore to factory settings". But I wonder, must I have a Win7-installation CD after the restore?? Because the computer came with preinstalled Windows 7 when I bought it. Keep in mind that it's a factory settings restore not a complete format c (i think) I've done a backup on hardrive "D" of my current system in case of anything going wrong. If a Cd is required, could you tell me another way to format the comp without buying the CD? My security center is damaged, so restore to point doesnt work either. If you got any solutions to how to start security center except setting it to "automatic" in services.msc (Since this doesnt work), please post 'em.
I have a dell Inspiron n7010 and im trying to reformat my computer. I backed up all my personal files into an external hdd. However when I try to restore my laptop to its factory settings, I get stuck. Upon booting up my computer I press f8 to get into the advanced boot menu. From there I select system repair but after selecting that, it always gets stuck at windows is loading files. It doesn't look my computer is loading anything either and it doesn't make sounds as of it were.
For a variety of reasons, I want to do a clean install on my laptop, which is a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7. I don't have any Windows disks (it's 2 years old and I'm fairly sure I wasn't provided any), so I'm trying to do it through advanced boot options. When I hit F8 during startup and select repair, I am shown the screen "Windows is loading files..." and then the system starts as usual, rather than giving me options for a fresh install, which the description (and every set of instructions I've seen) would suggest.
So im looking to restore my PC to its factory settings so i saw from a video that says all i have to do is go to, Control panel->System and security->Backup And Restore->Recover system settings or your computer->Advanced recovery methods->Reinstall Windows (requires Winodows installation disc) so yeah, will this work? im pretty sure the disc i have that came with my comp is the right disc, on the disc it says"microsoft windows 7 Reinstallation DVD", Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
let me know if this is the right disc and if this is the right way to reset to factory settings that would be super awesome!!!!

i have a copy of windows 7 and bought a custom made pc with an ASUS p5421-xl2/gb motherboard and i don't feel safe keeping whats on it currently. i want to start from scratch i don't really have files that i know i need to back up and haven't even really messed with with it much because i want it brand new. can someone help me? my computer is running on windows 7 i beleive currently.
I have an HP laptop (model HP G56 Notebook PC) that I am having a manner of problems with. There's definitely something wrong with it, but virus scanners are not picking it up.So I've decided to just reformat it and start from scratch (I've been planning on doing it for a while anyway). The problem is, the "Restore to factory settings" doesn't work properly. I go through the steps, backup etc then it says I need to restart for the process to start (which has worked fine before). The problem is that when the system restarts, the computer just sits at a black screen. Nothing happens, I've tried leaving it for ages but eventually I'm left with no choice but to switch the powerbutton off and then it starts up as normal.I've also tried going directly from the boot-up screen and selecting system restore that way, but again it just takes me to a blank screen until I hit the power button. It's like it's impossible for me to reset the computer.
I have a dell vostro 230 desktop pc running windows 7 32 bit .It recently got some bad viruses so i decided to restore to factory settings ,I placed windows installation disc in and rebooted ,followed instructions but made a new windows 7 partition by mistake .Ijust want to remove this and return pc back to original factory settings.
I need to restore my laptop to default settings with no CD or backup. I had a problem with my CD key beforehand when trying to activate my Windows 7 Home Premium, saying it was invalid - which by the way is preinstalled by Asus (the manufacturer). The CD key on the bottom of my laptop was apparently invalid. I didn't really have the time to phone up Microsoft and sort that out so left it. Also I did not think (stupidly) to back up my files. How do I go about doing this restore? I have some games installed too - Battlefield 3 (I have the disc), Crysis 2 (direct download from EA), Skyrim (disc) and Dead Space (Steam). Will these games be reinstallable - Crysis 2 in particular, as it said something about backing up the files for the game after downoading it from EA (I again didn't sigh). Will they just let me redownload it? Also will the CD keys still work? Also how do I back up the saves for Crysis 2?
I would like to "lock down" the system restore settings after I set it up on my main hd. For some reason it gets changed by either my setup of "daily disk cleaner" or Ccleaner or some other program.
Just wondering if it is wise to restore to factory settings (computer is little over 3 years old). Reason is I installed a lot of programs over the years and just want to clear all unwanted files etc. Also my recovery drive is highlited in red.
have a Packard Bell Ixtreme M5722 thats running windows 7 64 bit home premium I was advised by packard bell to do a factory restore which failed half way through with error code 1392 file system currupt. Ever since then i've been unable to start up windows. I have used a Windows 7 recovery cd that lets me into command prompt but when i run sfc /scannow it just says "there is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete" Obviously I can't reboot as it won't let me into windows at all. The recovery Essentials tools (windows 7 64-Bit Edition) doesn't work no restore point identified on computer and i don't have a recovery disk to use (I know i should have a backup disk but recently moved and lost my cd i created in move
