I would like to "lock down" the system restore settings after I set it up on my main hd. For some reason it gets changed by either my setup of "daily disk cleaner" or Ccleaner or some other program.

The service pack screwed me so bad with software and hardware I used, I regret that I didn't do an acronis backup!When trying to fix the problems, I had reinstalled various drivers and uninstalled the Service pack, thus forcing Windows to create more automated restore points. Since my C drive is configured to use %30 of it's capacity for restore points, along the way, I guess my restore point was deleted because it's not in the restore points list, even if I check "show more restore points".I want to prevent this in the future so I am asking if if anyone knows how to create a restore point and LOCK it so no matter what, my restore point won't get deleted.

As I'm about to try the X-Fi MB2 mod again as the last time I tried it my system was messed up that it wont even recognize my actual X-Fi card properly. All desktop icons when clicked go to "notepad" and "notepad" showing for everything to the left except for internet explorer. I have tried restore 6 times but it just comes back with. While that is fine and dandy in and of itself, it is the fact that this person is going in and changing desktop resolutions over and over and over which is messing people's settings up. Is there a way to go in and remove any and all monitor resolutions except for the one that the owner of the computer wants to use? What about the ability to lock other settings as well? I found a couple of articles for XP but not Win 7.

I was looking in the Computer Management Event Viewer and there are ALOT of MOUCLASS error references and also some windows update failures. Could this be causing the random freezes? Also, the system freezes on boot up and I have to reboot then it works fine for a while, but freezes again intermittently. I dont connect this system to the internet except for windows updates and DAW updates.

I looked in the event manager and after 2 separate occasions of it freezing on waking up, it's come up with vwififilt as the culprit. I hope I've uploaded a screengrab correctly.
I can't find anything online which distinguishes why this file is not loading and causing a freeze on waking from sleep mode.
Any ideas on what I can do to remedy this problem? And also why I might be getting this sporadic problem of the system waking immediately after sleeping?
So I cleaned my registry using RegSeaker and now my computer BSODs at the 'starting windows' screen, even if I try to start in safe mode. I created a backup of my old registry before cleaning and I can access it using the command prompt that you can access in the system restore options. However, when I try to update the registry with it I get an error message saying 'cannot import.
View 7 Replies View RelatedOK, so a couple of days ago, my HP desktop crashed and then went through the whole System Recovery loop(I couldn't login to Safe mode, wouldn't let me past the System Recovery Screen). Well I backed up the entire C drive using Backup your files in the menu. Then it shows you all the file types it will back up; i.e photos, videos, e-mails and bookmarks. So I did that to an external hard drive and it comes out to 143GB.Now comes my problem. I've been able to copy everything from the external hard drive using RecoveryMgr.exe which opens the WIM files and saves them to my C: hard drive under System Recovery Files. However it does not seem to work when it comes to putting in my old Thunderbird e-mails, contacts and such or in Firefox to restore my bookmarks, saved passwords.

I want to restore the comp using the acer feature "restore to factory settings". But I wonder, must I have a Win7-installation CD after the restore?? Because the computer came with preinstalled Windows 7 when I bought it. Keep in mind that it's a factory settings restore not a complete format c (i think) I've done a backup on hardrive "D" of my current system in case of anything going wrong. If a Cd is required, could you tell me another way to format the comp without buying the CD? My security center is damaged, so restore to point doesnt work either. If you got any solutions to how to start security center except setting it to "automatic" in services.msc (Since this doesnt work), please post 'em.

However when I try to restore my laptop to its factory settings, I get stuck. Upon booting up my computer I press f8 to get into the advanced boot menu. From there I select system repair but after selecting that, it always gets stuck at windows is loading files. It doesn't look my computer is loading anything either and it doesn't make sounds as of it were.

I don't have any Windows disks (it's 2 years old and I'm fairly sure I wasn't provided any), so I'm trying to do it through advanced boot options. When I hit F8 during startup and select repair, I am shown the screen "Windows is loading files..." and then the system starts as usual, rather than giving me options for a fresh install, which the description (and every set of instructions I've seen) would suggest.

It then says it can not find problem and can not fix the problem and then when i hit finish it shuts down. when i try to go to system retore it says Parameter is incorrect and once i hit okay all i have is the windows 7 background picture and cant do anything but shut down comeputer and restart. Then computer repair starts all over again.. i do have the reinstallation disc. My computer is no longer under warranty
