How To Let Merge Function Work And The Opening Of File In Notepad To Be Avoided
Sep 24, 2010
I have downloaded a small file that is supposed to make a few changes to the Windows Registry. My problem is that a number of folders are locked, since I upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7.This little "take ownership" registry file looks fine, there is a tutorial attached, etc. but my problem is that the file does not get merged into the Registry. The file gets opened in Notepad. and that is all..I need help how to let the Merge function work and the opening of the file in Notepad to be avoided.
At first I thought it was only my printer......uninstalled the drivers,reinstalled.......etc. Then I tried to print as an XPS document and I get the same error messages. Example error message from Excel is "Your file could not be printed due to an error on Microsoft XPS Document writer". If I try the printer I get the exact same message. From Firefox I get "An unknown error occurred while printing." I have searched everywhere for a solution, I even restored as far back as I could but that was only a month ago. I can print from Notepad, both on the printer and XPS Document writer, I can also print a test page and an alignment page
Can locate the required Logitech folder OK and open and examine the 10 .xml files for the various controllers OK.However when I try this within Notepad, can only get as far as the Logitech Folder. If the Folder is highlighted with the cursor all 10 files are listed. If I try to open the files, get the message ...No items match your search....Not sure how to open so that I can edit?

I installed a software called ultraEdit on my windows 7 machine, but then after uninstalling it my text documents no longer use Notepad as the default program to open. I tried changing the default program that text documents open with, but it is not letting me
Windows did an automatic system update while I was away from the keyboard while I had an open unsaved notepad file on the desktop, and it had disappeared after the update had rebooted to install itself. Is there ANY way to recover the contents???
I right click a file then click on "open with" then accidentally click notepad. What happen now is, the icons of my other files change to notepad and cannot open. The files now have a file extension of .lnk. My question is how can I restore my file back to its original or default form.
I have an ongoing problem with using Emacs on a Windows 7 machine. When I edit a .bat file and save the file, Emacs updates the registry with an association to 'open' .bat files with the Emacs editor. Batch files then fail to run properly, as they get open with Emacs rather then simply being run by a Command prompt window.
Its quite a bother, since I continually ahve to edit my registry to fix this automatic file association. Anyone know of a way to lock file associations for .bat files, or disable automatic registry updates by programs like Emacs or Notepad?
I am using Windows 7 Home edition. I have found that the turn off monitor and sleep functions do not work. When I set these from edit plan settings and save changes it does not do anything. I have tried restarting my computer to see if this would work but to no avail. I have no programs on the task bar which might be keeping the computer awake
The autostart function is not working properly. When introduced a CD Rom into the drive, it has all the autostart functions for movies, pics, documents, but instead of starting the games directly, It allways ask me to open the file, movies or pics, but the game never starts automatically as It used to do in the past Windows versions, and in Windows 7 BEFORE SP1. It's imposible to play games that require the insertion of the disc into the CD Rom Drive, for the same reason.Im running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and have a LG Super Multi RwDVD +R DL Light scribe multirecorder.

After recently purchasing a new pc, I have found that my copy and paste function no longer works correctly. When I copy something, half of the time it does not paste, or pastes a random single letter. Is this a problem that could easily be fixed, or could it be something that has infected my pc?
I use the auto scroll feature on my mouse frequently to browse web pages. Before upgrading to win 7 (and ie8) when activated I could scroll using the arrow keys on my keyboard. Since upgrading the arrow keys no longer work. You can only scroll by moving the mouse itself. That function is very important to me as it allowed me to keep my hand off the mouse reducing the aggravation of carpal tunnel syndrome. Any fixes? I am not sure if this is an IE8 problem or win 7 as I only use the function when browsing the web.
I'm not computer savvy but I can follow directions pretty well. Recently, I've discovered I cannot open any Zip files from my computer. I get an Adobe Acrobat error message saying I cannot open file because it is either not supported or file is damaged. This message comes up every time I try to open a zip file, no matter the source. I suspect it may be a default association problem based on the research I have done but I don't know how to correct the issue. As I said, I don't know a lot about operating systems.
I try to save a txt file with hebrew in it, I get:I CAN save files with hebrew titles, and doc (word) files with hebrew in them. Only Notepad plus hebrew content doesn't work.
In XP when you open a folder and want to select the file at the top or bottom I usually press the Home or End key. When you do this in Windows7 it does not hi-lite the text, it just ghosts the selection.
It seems that a number of applications have made it their own decision as to where they think I should be looking for a file to open (Office + some other apps excluded).Anyone know of a 3rd party app or way to tell those wayward apps where to look by default?
I am rinning Windows 7 x64 home premium and I have been cleaning out my old cd'sI have an old win95 generations deluxe genealogy cd which will not setup in any mode on this computer. there is an social security death index set of 2 cds and I do not want to pitch it. I can mount and view it/them but not use them. The internals of the isos/cds are in .car file extensions and I cannot open these archives as I can not find a car archive r that will run on Windows 7 x64. and no 7zip or winrar or winzip will not open them. they are essentially they are text converted to database and compressed. does anyone know how to get these open so I can either use them or recreate them in another database program.
