I try to save a txt file with hebrew in it, I get:I CAN save files with hebrew titles, and doc (word) files with hebrew in them. Only Notepad plus hebrew content doesn't work.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI successfully installed Windows 7 RC 7100 as a second OS in addition to XP Pro. I never had Vista, so this system is totally new to me. My questions:
- I have a problem with a correct codepage for non-unicode characters in russian language. In XP there was a special setting that allowed to select the proper language to show non-unicode characters under Regional settings. Will russian LIP or MUI solve this ? BTW, whats the difference between them? If I prefer to have english menus, what do I need to get?
- I installed Windows 7 to the separate drive. During installation I had some known problems with my bad memory sticks and had a BSOD. I changed them and Windows 7 was installed successfully. Now I have to change boot sequence in BIOS to switch between XP and Windows 7. Is it a way to edit boot.ini on XP to include Windows 7?
How do I type in unicode characters such as "☑"?In XP you could add a "hexnumpad" key to the registry and then type "Alt +2611", but this doesn't seem to be working. I can still type regular ASCII Characters using the numpad, however.
View 9 Replies View RelatedFor some reason Windows 7 (Home Premium, 64-bit) has recently stopped displaying Unicode characters correctly. I know its a Windows issue, not specific to a certain program, because the problem appears on Asian characters and symbols like the stars in my song ratings across various programs like foobar2000, Mp3Tag, and iTunes. I don't think they work anywhere; I just happen to notice their absences (replaced by ugly square placeholders) in my media-related programs. One interesting thing is that restoring my default font settings via Control Panel appears to fix the problem every other time I restart (ie, I might be able to get Unicode working correctly if I always restore the default font settings before restarting or rebooting my PC - but that is heinously annoying).
The only possible cause I can think of is that I have had some programs to modify the Windows UI such as GDI++ to make the fonts Mac-like (decided ClearType was better rather quickly :P) and pieces of Stardock's suite including programs like WindowsBlinds, IconPackager, etc. I somewhat recently uninstalled all of them, but I didn't notice the problem right away, so I am not sure if they have anything to do with it.
I'm using Windows 7 64bit Professional. It's configured for English and the System Local for non-Unicode is English (RP Philippines).I've been able to copy and past Chinese characters from Word --> Notepad -->Chrome/Firefox/IE for work (I was localizing a website) with no problems until last night. Today, when I tried to copy-paste a few chinese characters from Word, I was suddenly only seeing square boxes. I know this means that the font or app can't recognize or render the characters. My questions is WHY? and how to Fix it? It frustrates me since it was fine yesterday. I haven't installed anything new or changed any setting that I know of. Other applications still render the characters just fine. In fact, if I copy-paste a Chinese character from word to notepad (making a square), then copy the square from Notepad to Chrome, I get the Chinese character back rendered perfectly.
The only change would be a windows update KB915597 that automatically installed last night. To add insult to injury, whenever I go to Windows Update to look at my optional updates and try to search for the Chinese (simplified) LIP, it's not displayed! Even when I click "restore hidden updates". I've even tried the Windows Update Reset regkey, which deleted my Windows Update history, but the LIP's are still not there.
Can locate the required Logitech folder OK and open and examine the 10 .xml files for the various controllers OK.However when I try this within Notepad, can only get as far as the Logitech Folder.If the Folder is highlighted with the cursor all 10 files are listed. If I try to open the files, get the message ...No items match your search....Not sure how to open so that I can edit?

When I edit a .bat file and save the file, Emacs updates the registry with an association to 'open' .bat files with the Emacs editor. Batch files then fail to run properly, as they get open with Emacs rather then simply being run by a Command prompt window.
Its quite a bother, since I continually ahve to edit my registry to fix this automatic file association. Anyone know of a way to lock file associations for .bat files, or disable automatic registry updates by programs like Emacs or Notepad?

So, whenever I try to save a picture, or video, or anything like that online. When I click save as, and then name it what I'd like. When I hit save I get an error, and then I hit save again and it asks me if I want to replace it. So I hit yes, then it saves, or downloads the file.

So when I'm on a site and I want to download a video clip I right click, hit save as like I always have then I name it what I'd like and save where I'd like it to go. and that is the error I get. So I hit ok, and then hit save again and it asks me if I'd like to replace, I hit yes and it downloads with the name I give it. I just don't understand why I'm getting this error.
I am planning to purchase a new computer system which will have Windows 7 (which I am not familiar with) installed on it.
On Microsoft's page comparing the different versions of Windows 7, one of the differences it check marks for Windows 7 Ultimate is "Work in the language of your choice and switch between any of 35 languages". This is not checked for Windows 7 Professional. Does this mean that to have full Hebrew support (as in all versions of Windows XP including Home) one must get "Ultimate" or is that only for some sort of additional language support? Doesn't Windows 7 Home Premium include the same kind of Hebrew support that XP Home does which would be adequate?
If no one is familiar with this, could someone running Windows 7 Home Premium go to the wherever the language/keyboard options are and see if one can select other languages & keyboards, particularly Hebrew?
I have an external HDD that contains data originaly created with a windows XP PC. When plugged into my Windows 7 PC, I cant seem to be able to save changes. E.g. if I dbl click on a .txt file to open it in notepad, make changes and then try to save it, notepad says 'access is denied'. Similarly for ultraEdit. If I launch UltraEdit selecting 'run as administrator' this solves the problem. But that doesnt help when opening files by dbl clicking on them. Under file properties, I have checked the files does not have a read-only attribute, and the Administrators group has full-control. I have changed the file-ownership to me. I am configured as an Administrator rather than a Standard-user. If I create a new file on this drive with the Windows 7 PC, I can save changes no bother.I have compared the file properties for the 2 files and the only difference I can spot is that the newly created file has me listed under the Security tab; whereas the old file only has group names listed.

View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is perhaps the worst version of Office I have used. 2000 was fine. Skipped 2003. 2007 was innovative. 2010 was very impressive. 2013 is a serious step back. The new UI is extremely laggy on any computer of mine. The stupid smooth page reflow is just dumb, especially for long documents. Waiting for 50 pages of text to reflow takes forever. Plus, the time needed to save files is so long in Office 15. I hit "ctrl+s" and the entire program locks up, taking a good couple seconds to save. On office 2010, saving was almost instantaneous and I could still type as Office saved the file. This is not mentioning the sheer number of times Office 15 has crashed on me.

2. I would like these logs to be saved with the building name that the servers are located in, also including the date that it was cleared and which log it was
