View 3 RepliesI just got Windows 7 Pro 64-bit a couple weeks ago and it's been terrific so far. However, there's one thing that has annoyed me quite a bit that I can't seem to figure out. When I look at the Resource Monitor, I'm told that I have 18+ GB of installed memory on my computer. This is obviously not correct, however, since I only have two 2GB sticks of DDR2 installed. Here are some pics showing the issue:I have no clue why Windows is saying that there's 14 GB of hardware reserved memory. Seems to be a faulty reading of some kind, and I'm wondering if there's any way to go about correcting this or finding out the root of the problem. If I can't get it fixed, it's not a big deal since my performance is terrific. Just something that bugs me a little and I'd like to know what's causing the incorrect reading
View 9 Replies View RelatedYesterday, I got a balloon notification saying that there were some Windows Updates available. I like to keep my PC up-to-date, and since I wasn't in the middle of anything urgent I had my Windows 7 32-bit PC download and install them. WU asked to reboot my computer, so I got to a stopping point and clicked reboot.When I rebooted my PC, my 2nd monitor stopped working and wouldn't detect.So I downloaded installed the latest drivers and restarted, nothing. Tried rolling back to a restore point before the updates, nothing. Uninstalled the video card and rebooted, nothing.
I have an ATI Raedon 3600 Series video card, installed into a Dell Optiplex 360, running 2 Dell 19" LCD monitors. Nothing super fancy or extravagant going on hereI am a bit at a loss. I was going to maybe take out the video card and try reinstalling it physically and "softwarically". But I do not think that will aIt was working fine for months, and so I am guessing it has something to do with the Windows Updates that were installed.
I have 2 weird things in a row this morning and I was hoping to get some opinions. I was the last one out of the office last night and the first one in this morning. I come in and my office door is locked. It is never locked and I never lock it. So once in my office I wake my computer and Resource Monitor is running on my PC and I didn't even know this program existed. So I understand Resource Monitor is a common tool that I just never noticed before but is it possible that it started itself?

It may have something to do with avast antivirus because thats the image thats listed next to the files in those drives. I checked with avast and it doesnt appear to be running any scans and theres no way I can find to have it skip that drive. Also when I put the drive back online the activity is at 0 but eventually goes back to 100% and I can hear the drive activity.

I just installed Windows 7 a week ago and today a very weird thing happens - Aero Peek doesn't work all the time. One thing I noticed is that when it does not work the taskbar icons seem like stuck in selected mode. What I mean is when you go over them they change their color - e.g. like they are selected. But when you go away they become transparent once again - well when Aero Peek stops working mine don't go to transparent.
I've attached an image. The bar on the left is how all bars should look like when they are not hoped over, yet as you can see the right bar has its "selected" color stuck. After I make a few "show desktop" switches, and then switch between windows - it somehow gets fixed. Totally random. I've tried closing programs, did the troubleshooter (said it's all OK), went into settings... basically everything I managed to find and thought of - I tried and nothing worked. All other functions of Aero work.
Installed a new hard drive and did a clean install of windows 7 on it. Installed the the drivers from the recovery cd and I get the message " windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running".

I have two computers. The monitor (Acer) on #1 quit working. I switched monitors. #2 monitor (samsung) didn't work on #1 either. I thought it might be my computer. My brother got his monitor working with it. We thought it might have been my cables. I bought new ones. I tried it (with new cables) with monitor from #2. Didn't work. I put the orignial monitor back on, and it works. Now the monitor from #2 doesn't work on #2. I think it might be a driver issue, but not sure.

I have a VGA (Nvidia 210) which also have an HDMI port. I connected the monitor's HDMI out to the VGA's HDMI port with the new cable and booted. Nothing came. I even set the Monitor's settings to HDMI. But nothing happened. It says check display cable. Why is this? How to fix it? Have I done something wrong?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSo I got a new monitor for xmas, the LG Flatron W1953T and I wanted to get it running with my Dell monitor. I have an onboard NVIDIA GeForce 8300 and at first just tried to plug the new monitor into the DVI port but I think it's broken or something.
Anyways, I bought this Triton Technologies External VGA video card that I just plug into a USB port, and now I have both monitors running through VGA, and my second monitor is up, but the resolution just looks terrible on the second one, and when I go to adjust resolution or whatever it says I have only one monitor and if I hit detect it doesn't come up.
In my devices menu it says I have the dell menu, and then two other "Generic non PnP monitors" even though I only have one other monitor connected.
I also go to my NVIDIA control panel and it doesnt say the second monitor is detected.
Both monitors are working, like I see my desktop background on the other monitor and I can drag stuff over to it but its just not detected or something idk. I want to download Ultramon too, (Or should I get something else w/ windows 7? I heard you cant have two taskbars w seven.
I bought a Samsung HDMI monitor yesterday (model: S22B370H) for my Z68P-DS3 motherboard which has only an HDMI output. The monitor was working fine when connected to my laptop, although with some flickering. When I connect to the PC, rarely it shows a display till the Windows Startup booting screen, after which it is totally blank. The monitor is recognizing and HDMi input but is not displaying it.

It was working yesterday, thenm it stopped so I redownloaded the driver. It worked again. However, today it isn't working and I've tried reinstalling the driver.
A friend just bought a new HP laptop running Windows 7 Home. They want to connect their old Gateway monitor to the laptop to use as a dual-screen setup. They shut down the system connected the monitor then turned on the monitor and booted the system. When the desktop displays on the laptop it also comes up on the external monitor for just a second and then the monitor goes black. They have also tried connecting the monitor while the laptop was already up and running with the same results. The monitor had been working fine with their old Windows XP desktop system.
