Reinstalling From Self-burned OEM Laptop Discs?
Jul 11, 2011
I'm not normally this noob-tastic, but the world of laptops is relatively new for me. I want to do a clean reinstall of Win7 x64 on my Vaio, and I'm not sure how to go about it. I have 4 system image discs and a system recovery discs that I burned immediately after booting the machine up for the first time about a year ago. What I want to do is format the drive and use whichever discs I'm supposed to use to reinstall the OS. Is that the right way to do it with a laptop? Which discs am I supposed to use to reinstall?

So it has come to the point where I can FINALLY get an SSD (and I look forward to it very much), however I've come across what could be a little problem.I want to fresh install everything on the SSD (my computer is so long overdue a reformat it's disgraceful), however I can't find/never had the discs for windows 7.When I bought the computer it came with windows vista Home Premium, with an eligibility for free upgrade to W7 home premium. I duly upgraded to windows 7 of course and all has been dandy since (maybe 2 years now, that's how long I've not reformatted for!).But now, I can't find a disc for windows 7 anywhere, I have the Vista Home Premium disc, which has the W7 upgrade slip inside with a serial number on, but no W7 disc is to be found. I'm pretty OCD about keeping my software discs and general 'important stuff' together, so I'm beginning to think it may have been a digital download?Either way, whether I have lost it or never had it, how can I go about reinstalling windows7, preferably without buying it again... I'm guessing downloading an .ISO and creating a bootable disc, provided I can find my cd-key?

The other day my computer was infected with "FakeSysDef" virus. "Microsoft Safety Scanner" detected it, and cleaned it(MS Security essentials and MS Malicious Program Removal Tool both failed though). I didn't realize that a browser hijack/redirector was left behind, so in the middle of the night another virus named "Privacy Protection" installed itself. Malwarebytes cleaned that one up. But the hijacker was still there. "Spybot" Hijack tool fixed that. Now my computer is clean and useable, but it's a buggy mess. Alot of things don't work right anymore.
*My "all programs" list in control panel is blank(programs are still installed though).
*I can't get a desktop background picture to stay.
*Some installed programs aren't listed in the "programs&features" list, so I don't know how to delete them.
*Other programs like Bing won't delete because it says they are running(but they're not).
*Some of my picture and music folders are locked, but I can get into them through shortcuts from other parts of the computer.

I'm about to help my mom reinstall her computer. She has a nasty virus that is preventing her from her job as a reservation agent (she works from home), and I need to make sure I can fully reinstall correctly before diving in. Whenever I have needed to reinstall my own computer, all I have to do is restore directly from the hard drive. Her computer isn't quite built like this. Initially, she had to create recovery discs to restore from instead, and I have never dealt with recovery discs before. Is it done the same exact way as restoring from the hard drive? I have found 4 DVDs. She initially created 2 but they failed and apparently she had to start over and create the 4 I found. I'm slightly worried about installing this wrong.. I'm afraid there might be a 5th disc, although she insists there are 4. Are there any precautions I should take before going through with it?

So I made a mistake while taking on a friend's problematic sony vaio laptop. They were wanting to install a newly purchased Kaspersky av, but after uninstalling the old version of Kaspersky there was a problem with an unresponsive usb mouse & mouse pad. I wasn't able to resolve the issue through various repair programs and manually reinstalling the driver, which was giving off the error code of not being properly installed or functioning. With owners consent, I decided to let Vaio Care to bring the computer back to factory condition. (I wish the owner had the owners manual to this thing.)I made sure to backup all of the files that the owner needed saved, but failed to make any sort of backup recovery disk for the computer. Not sure if it's too late to do so, but the computer will not boot to windows any longer. I get a white blinking cursor on a black background immediately after Vaio disappears from the screen upon bootup, but cannot do anything with it. I made a windows 7 home premium iso dvd, and when booting from it I reinstalled windows onto one of the 3 partitions on the hd (the largest of the 3 which was labeled "Primary" type). Of the other two partitions, one was labeled "Primary" and was named "System Reserved" but only 101MB, and the other was labeled "System" and was named "Recovery" and is 7.7GB. When installing, the computer does a restart but then boots up from the disk again starting the entire process over again. So I changed it to boot from the HDD, but still get the same problem of a blank cursor and windows not booting up.When attempting the System Recovery Options on the Windows 7 dvd I'm given 3 different partitions (2 of which are 400+GB, labled windows 7 operating system, and located on (D: ) Local Disk). I'm guessing this might stand for the old windows 7 from the factory, and the one I installed. The other partition is 7.7GB and labeled Start VAIO Recovery Center located on (Unknown) Recovery.System Restore, System Image Recovery, and windows Memory Diagnostic aren't doing any good. Startup Repair only gives me an issue for one of the 3 Partitions, the (Recovery Partition), and states that Startup Repair cannot repair this computer automatically, saying that the "Problem Event Name: StartupRepairOffline".
When going through command prompt I see that old data & drivers are still on the disc, but was wondering if it was too late to make some sort of a recovery disc for it? My concerns are that when I do a wipe of the drive and a clean install of Windows 7, I'm going to have many issues without having sony's factoryware installed. Am I able to make my own disk to reinstall Sony's factoryware? What's the best way of getting this computer back to fully functioning?I have access to the drivers on Sony's support site: Sony eSupport - VGN-FW510F - Support

My laptop is starting to get a bit slow, particularly when booting and loading programs so I'm thinking of replacing the hard drive with a SSD. Specs are as follows:
MSI X-370 13''
AMD E-450 APU
4GB DDR3 RAM (Presumably 1066Mhz although maybe 1333Mhz)
500GB Western Digital 7200RPM Hard Drive (Presumably Scorpio Black)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
I have a Samsung 830 Series 128GB which I originally bought for the laptop but I had problems transferring the OS across so I used it in my desktop for a while. I think it would be put to better use in my laptop though. Not only should it speed things up but I think I might get an extra 30 mins or so of battery life as well. It might make it a tad lighter and more shock resistant too.
I originally tried transferring the OS using an external hard drive enclosure and some software called Paragon. Despite following the guide to the letter, all I would get is the BSOD after transferring the OS. Now I noticed today that the Windows 7 product key on my laptop doesn't have OEM in it so does that mean that it's not the OEM version and I should easily be able to just format the drive and do a clean install using the product key on my laptop? Also if I am able to do this, is there a way for me to create a CD/DVD (or preferably something on USB to avoid having to buy an external optical drive) inside my existing installation to use for reinstalling or would I need to borrow a Windows 7 DVD from a friend? (And use my own legal product key of course.)

has the core i3-370m more specs found at bestbuy.com with the sku: 2686552 into the search field, or from a general internet search its pretty new to best buy, but I was wondering if its possible to create a system image/iso or something to reinstall the OS to the 32 bit version. The OEMs nowadays seem to want to leave the recovery options on a partitioned part of the main drive and want you to create 'recovery disks' for OS backup protection.i have proprietary software that can only run on the 32bit vers on windows 7 (the machine comes with home premium 64 bit).I understand the total memory usage limitations. But I am not concerned with that and the machines only purpose is to run this software.called HP they said the 64 designation was 'locked' into the 'motherboard chip' as they called it, and it can be turned back to 32bit. The guy didn't know and found this answer from his supervisor. Sounds like a load of b.s. to get me off the phone with giving a solidly researched response. Idk to me it just sounds innaccurate from my understanding.I've reinstalled OS's before on many laptops but they were with my own copies of windows that I had the installation disks for.if its not possible to create a system image/iso from the backup files or the OS itself would it work if i use an installation disk (of the exact same version and same service pack=none)that I already own to re-install the windoes 7 home premium select the 32 bit option, and use the serial from the new laptop to activate it.

Now the laptop wont boot into Windows. How do I fix this? I went to "repair my computer" then went to "reinstall windows while keeping my old files". Little did I know that this laptop had a broken power jack and was running off of battery. The computer shut down on stage 4/5. I have no CDs and used the option within the partition to reinstall. How do I reinstall windows now and keep my files after this... ? Did I lose all my files?
When I press f8 now to go to "Repair my Computer" it goes to Windows Boot Manager and says that windows has failed to start... Insert windows installation disk... Boot failed - required disk is inaccessible.

After I had to reinstall my Windows 7 OS and the Samsung drivers onto a new internal hard drive, my screen images appear to be somewhat stretched sideways from normal. I right-clicked the desktop screen and was given only two screen resolutions to pick from, thinking perhaps was the problem, but neither option changed my problem.

I have an HP Probook 4525s, running Windows 7, with a DVD-RW drive. I attempted to open a burned CD-R that had photos on it, but when I stuck the disc in, and attempted to open it, it said it was a blank disc. I was able to open the disc on another computer just fine. I was wondering why I wasn't able to open it on mine.

At first I burned an audio CD by dragging mp3 files into the writer. Then discovered that the order was not what I wanted, by track number, but was alphabetical by title. Looking at the File arrangement setting I discovered it was indeed set to [artist]-[title].So I changed it to [track] and then burned another CD. But it ordered them by title again. Next, I cleared the mp3 files from CD writer and dragged them back again thinking this must be done after setting the file arrangement. But upon burning the CD, it still was alphabetically ordered by title.I checked the docs and didn't see any reference to File arrangement.

I've read all the treads explaining how to delete files waiting to be burned to CD, but my problem is that the folder for these files is empty. Not only that, but the message says that they are waiting to be burned to a CD/DVD reader, not a burner. I suspect that I'll have to edit the registry.

I have a pile of CD-R disc's with music, photos, and other files that I burned several years ago. All of them work fine on my husbands desktop, which I believe may be Vista (I cannot remember ), but not on my new laptop. I just bought an HP Pavilion with Windows 7. When I put the discs in, my autoplay options are for a blank disc. I decided to go into My Computer and go into them from there and it is saying there are "702 MB of 702 MB" remaining. In other words, blank discs

I burned the files to a CD and the CD plays on my computer but doesn't play on my Panasonic BD-85. I really don't understand what's happening as I have burned music on a CD and that plays on the BD-85.

I have created a slideshow in Microsoft media however when I burn it to a DVD the music and the pictures no longer are in sync. It appears that the pictures move faster off of the DVD than they do when created in media. This is the case whether played on a DVD player or a computer however when played in media it works perfectly.

I have a new Asus laptop. When I went to burn recovery discs as advised, the instructions popping up on screen were not clear and I ended up moving the files to the temporary burn folder. Eventually I figured out how to proceed with the real burn and did end up with my recovery discs, however I still have the files in temporary burn and am being notified about them every time I turn on my computer. I'm scared if I remove them I will be deleting the actual recovery files.
