Folders Burned To Recovery Disc Are Still In Burn Folder?

Apr 7, 2012

I have a new Asus laptop. When I went to burn recovery discs as advised, the instructions popping up on screen were not clear and I ended up moving the files to the temporary burn folder. Eventually I figured out how to proceed with the real burn and did end up with my recovery discs, however I still have the files in temporary burn and am being notified about them every time I turn on my computer. I'm scared if I remove them I will be deleting the actual recovery files.

Burned CD-R Reading As Blank Disc?

Mar 27, 2011

I have a pile of CD-R disc's with music, photos, and other files that I burned several years ago. All of them work fine on my husbands desktop, which I believe may be Vista (I cannot remember ), but not on my new laptop. I just bought an HP Pavilion with Windows 7. When I put the discs in, my autoplay options are for a blank disc. I decided to go into My Computer and go into them from there and it is saying there are "702 MB of 702 MB" remaining. In other words, blank discs

Disc ASUS Recovery Error 1029, Cannot Boot Into That Recovery Partition

Jun 23, 2012

I've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows. However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore. It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.

Burn An Exact Copy Of Windows 7 Installation Disc?

Sep 15, 2011

Is it safe to burn a Windows 7 installation ISO image using the 'exact copy' option, meaning making an exact duplicate from an already existing CD. Or is it safer to burn a CD from the original ISO file? Wouldn't the 'exact copy' option have higher chances for data corruption, especially since it is a boot/installation CD?

When To Burn System Recovery Discs

Jul 4, 2010

When do you burn your System Recovering Discs (SRD)?The manufacturers of PCs all seem to recommend you burn your own recovery media shortly after you perform the initial Win 7 chores, thus providing one more return path to heaven when catastrophe strikes, e.g.total loss of your primary drive and the hidden recovery partition (HRP), or some incredible error on the part of the sys-admin who one day flunks his IQ test and tries something bold and exciting. The preferred or required medium for these discs is either DVD-R or DVD+R type, something hard and physical and large enough not to get lost but also readable under most circumstances. Note that Windows 7 only lets you perform ONE SRD burn. So far all is simple. Burn a DVD. Well, not so fast. Im getting two HP systems, one laptop (LT) and one desktop (DT). The LT will have a Blu-Ray/ DVD reader but not a burner. The DT will have a full burner. Both systems will be on a LAN so on some versions of Windows 7-64 I will be able to burn the LT SRD on the DT burner. On some other versions of Windows 7 that may not be possible.

Now here is the tricky part. Since Im getting in two new systems I opted to get the multi-system license for Office 2010. The multi-system license gives you three installs and is much more economical than buying several separate Office vendor installs. HP does not install that pre-ship so if I make the SRD immediately after Windows 7 install it will not reflect the later Office install. Notice that with the multi-system Office license each install eats one of the allowed installs hence you dont want to do a repeat during system recovery. So it would seem that a possible strategy might be to postpone the SRD burn, which you only get one chance to do, until after the core applications are installed. The SRD burn is like old marriage; until system death do you not part. The above questions and strategy raises the more fundamental questions: What exactly is contained on the SRD and HRP the when the SRD is burned? Does the SRD contain and recover any changes made as a result of pre-burn installs and other system activity? Should you install all your critical and trusted applications that have limited licenses before you burn the SRD thus allowing an almost pain free restore from backups?

Note: Some context. In this configuration the intent is that the LT be an almost mirror of the DT, just on a smaller scale. When both systems are linked directly on the LAN, or via a VPN link, then resources will be shared. Else work can proceed on the either with all facilities possible. Both LT and DT will have Windows 7-64 Pro. Exactly how data synchronization will occur is still an open issue.

Note: Some retailers discourage buyers who ask about recovery media. They of course want to sell a plan where they do the recovery and will do so forever promise, cross their heart and hope to die -- or until the U.S. Bankruptcy Court settles their affairs. HP on their Web sites strongly recommends you make the SRDs but also offers to provide them in the event of need with the caveat that they may not have the SRD for your model at some future date. Consider your system dies Monday, you decide by Tuesday morning you have no choice but to recover from scratch. You order SRDs FedEx next-day and by Wednesday or Thursday they arrive.

Create Own Recovery Disc?

Dec 14, 2011

My sister gave me her laptop to do some repairs. I have been working on this thing for more hours than I wish to admit (mostly scans running like the Ad-Ware scan that is now on hour 7). Between her, and her 2 kids using it its has too much going on that need to be removed. The Laptop has a Vista sticker on it but was upgrade and is running 7 Home Premium. She purchased it from her neighbor who she no longer associates with. So the odds of her getting the 7 Home Premium DVD from her are slim to none.I have went through and cleaned up most of the crap and am working on getting it to run a smooth as new (or better once de-crapped). can I create a restore disc once I get it to the point I am now that will be just as good as any restore disc?

Recovery Disc Not Working?

Apr 21, 2012

New to the forums, kind of a novice with computers and I'm at a loss with what to do.Okay so my Acer Aspire 7551 running Windows 7 Premium Home 64bit was acting funny so I decided to do a system restore. So I put in the Acer Recovery Discs that I made when I first purchased the computer. Now I have used this discs before with no problems at all. So I put the first disc in, selected the option to do a complete system restore back to factory defaults. It's my understanding that this completely wipes the OS off the HDD. So the first disc ran with no problems. I put the second disc in and got an error message Fail to copy to HDD: D:PatchModulesWIncre.002WOP000460OX0TCB111.SWM Press OK to continue I press OK to continue, and it boots back to the BIOS screen. Then it goes to a black screen and says BOOTMGR IS MISSING. PRESS CTRL+ALT+DEL TO CONTINUE.So I put the recovery disc back in to try the process over again and same thing happens.

Making A Recovery Disc For Windows XP Pro, SP3

Dec 9, 2012

I intend to load Ubuntu 10.04 onto my home desktop machine while retaining Win XP as well. I'll be creating a dual boot system, in other words, and then using XP only to run Photoshop. The rest of the stuff I need to do gets done just fine with Firefox, Open Office and Thunderbird.

The discussions about how to do this indicate a "restore disc" for XP should be created prior to starting, unless you still have the disc that came with the system.

I have the original Dell OS "re-installation" disc, still in the envelope with the key printed on the back.

My question: is the "re-installation" disc that came with the computer the same as a "recovery disc"? If not, what is the difference? And how do I go about creating a "recovery" disc.
