I have a pile of CD-R disc's with music, photos, and other files that I burned several years ago. All of them work fine on my husbands desktop, which I believe may be Vista (I cannot remember ), but not on my new laptop. I just bought an HP Pavilion with Windows 7. When I put the discs in, my autoplay options are for a blank disc. I decided to go into My Computer and go into them from there and it is saying there are "702 MB of 702 MB" remaining. In other words, blank discs

I have a new Asus laptop. When I went to burn recovery discs as advised, the instructions popping up on screen were not clear and I ended up moving the files to the temporary burn folder. Eventually I figured out how to proceed with the real burn and did end up with my recovery discs, however I still have the files in temporary burn and am being notified about them every time I turn on my computer. I'm scared if I remove them I will be deleting the actual recovery files.

I have a toshiba satellite L750 running Windows 7 home premium, when trying to burn anything onto a blank disc I get as far as selecting my items and asking it to burn but it keeps telling me to insert a blank disc (which obviously I have). I have tried several different types of blank disc but it dosnt seem to recognise any of them.

I burned a couple of files with Nero on my Windows 7 32bit computer and they do not show up on the disk when I reinsert it and look for the files. If I restart the PC then they show up. I burned the same files with CDBurnerXP and they show up fine the first time.

I've read all the treads explaining how to delete files waiting to be burned to CD, but my problem is that the folder for these files is empty. Not only that, but the message says that they are waiting to be burned to a CD/DVD reader, not a burner. I suspect that I'll have to edit the registry.

I'm in the process of calibrating my subwoofer and want to make a CD audio disc of bass frequencies from this site [URL]. The download contains many MP3 files. I burned the files to a CD and the CD plays on my computer but doesn't play on my Panasonic BD-85. I really don't understand what's happening as I have burned music on a CD and that plays on the BD-85.

I'm currently in the process of buying a new laptop and one of the ways that I can save money on it is by getting it without an OS installed onto it.. I'm able to get windows 7 off of MSDN for free because my university has some sort of partnership with them or something, but obviously this is just a download and not a disc.
Therefore I was wondering if it is possible (and how is it possible) to install an OS onto an internal blank HDD without having a disc (i haven't downloaded it yet but i'm guessing you download it as a zip or maybe .iso and they send you a key as this is how it worked for other software I've got off of them)

i bought a computer from someone, and the windows 7 ultimate has degraded so bad that i need to reinstall it, but no discs came with the machine. I downloaded an iso image of windows 7 ultimate 64 bit that will supposedly work with a key, which i found with "magic jellybean key finder". I put the iso image, about 3.3 Gigabytes, on a dvd disc. Now I want to back up as best as possible before trying a reinstall, and I am an amateur with most of this stuff. I've been investigating backup methods and software, including the windows 7 itself., but supposedly there is a better way with some freeware like maybe easeus, etc.and I wouldn't be confident with the windows 7 backup this is starting to take way too much time and I need to get this done soon. It would be great if you could tell me if what I've done so far is correct and the best way to proceed with backup and reinstall.

I have a Sony VAIO laptop and tried out Linux on it. This gave me the Gub loader, where when I boot up I choose which OS to use. I am done with Linux, and also notice that I have only 250 GB of my 500GB hard drive available to Windows.
I have two questions:
1. How do I uninstall Linux, getting rid of the Grub loader(it's in my MBR, I believe, so it is THERE, not easily gotten rid of).
2. Can I use a friend's Win 7 64bit disc to format and reinstall my OS, using the Activation Code on the bottom of the laptop?- I'm not really stealing this way, am I? Sony did not provide me with a disc when I bought the computer. The Sony method of restoring the OS does not work here- I deleted the Linux partition and did the Restore, but the Grub loader is still there. So I had to reinstall Linux to get things working right.
I'm willing to completely wipe my hard drive and reinstall Windows, even though it won't be the same as I got it from Sony(don't want or need trial offers or the Sony utilities that it came with)

I recently built a new desktop from ground up. Of course I needed a new copy of Wind. 7 for it and wanted to also be able to use the install disc after i was done with the new desktop to do a fresh install on my laptop as well. Its a 1 1/2 yr old Dell Studio. When i purchased this windows 7 disc from the Microsoft store the sales rep assured me that it was ok to install to both machines. I now realize he was lying thru his teeth to make the sale. I could have just bought an OEM thru Newegg for 80 or 90 $ instead of paying 200 for the full version which gets me nothing more.
Found out yesterday that I cant use it for both only one. I am gonna address that with BBB and consumer affairs if possible but....
I am waiting on the OEM disc that Dell will now ship to me and will have to do another fresh install on the laptop. This is prob a stupid question and as you prob have sensed I am not the sharpest pencil in the pack with this stuff so I appreciate your patience, but Is there any way i can save the rest of the content of the HDD to an external drive and just put it all back after I do the fresh install of windows? Any cloning software is gonna clone the current windows install as well as the remainder of the drive contents. It took a while to set it up with SSD as boot drive and the older 500 Gb HDD holding the files.

My wife bought a refurbished Gateway computer which we've had a lot of problems with. Long story short - I want to reinstall Windows in case there are corruptions or other issues. Now, the last time I had to reinstall Windows was back in the day when we got discs. I googled how to do it and it pointed me to the control panel recover option, although when I try to do that - the computer informs me that I have no "image" to recover from. At the same time, my computer did not come with discs.

an HP desktop E5550/4GB/1TBHDD with W7 Home Premium x64. It is pretty much overrun by rootkits, trojans and all manner of fun. Anyways, I have decided to wipe it clean. The problem is this: She lost the CDs that came with the computer. My current plan is to use a CD key-finding program, get the CD key, and use it in conjunction with a legally purchased Windows 7 Home Premium OEM DVD bought off of Newegg.com. Will this work?

Today, after a bad driver update, I decided to do a system image from a known good image that I have used once before. The image is on 3 DVD's. I inserted and ran the 1st DVD like normal, and when prompted, I inserted the 2nd DVD. That's when it happened. The screen kept saying that "No DVD is installed in the drive" even though I could hear it spinning. I clicked OK, and the message would return. I opened, replaced the DVD and closed the tray many, many times and I got the same "no DVD installed" error message.I tried and tried to no avail. So I cancelled the system image thinking I could just boot from the System repair disc that I made, but no matter how many times I try to boot from it, I get an error message, and nothing but "No operating system installed".I called Dell and they are sending me a factory Windows 7 Home Premium x64 disc that I should receive Friday................I have no clue what to do when I receive it, but I want to at least try.

I have an HP G62 laptop which came pre-installed with Windows 7. I would like to fully remove all data on the HDD and reinstall Windows 7.The 'Computer' section of the Start button shows the following HDD (not sure if these are partitions or not, but I'm assuming that they are!):
Local Disk ( C: )
Recovery ( D: )
HP_TOOLS ( F: )
I had a quick look at the D: drive and it showed a few setup files, all of which seem to be related to MSOFFICE. :-?I have been reading about data destruction programs that will absolutely wipe the drive and remove all data; I would like to do this and then reinstall Windows 7 so that the laptop effectively becomes a 'new' one.
1. How do I go about formatting the HDD with a data destruction program and then reinstall Win 7, since I do not have a bootable disc?
2. How reliable are such data destruction programs? Is there any margin of error? (I am a bit concerned about all the sensitive information that I have saved on my laptop such as bank details, family photos, etc.)

can I use that same disc to reinstall it as my "genuine" window 7? since the previous install already deleted my window vista..
The situation now is my current OS is window 7(upgraded from vista),can I reinstall it using the same method?(upgrade disc) without worrying the copyright and such?
I want to do so because I heard peoples said that if you have a partition with OS alone will grant better performance to the PC..so I tryin' to immediately after the installment of the new window 7, I want to do a partition for the OS alone only, separate it with the programs file and such to avoid the OS file mix around with other file..

I have an HP desktop running Windows 7 Professional, and a Lenovo laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium. I am having the following problem on both computers:
I cannot drag and drop files to a blank CD on either machine. If I put a blank CD-R (or CD-RW) in the drive, then open Computer, then click on the CD's icon, I get an error message: "Windows can't read the disc in drive E: Make sure that the disc uses a format that Windows recognizes. If the disc is unformatted, you need to format it before using it."If I right click, then click "Open," or "Open with," I get the same message. There are no options to format the disk.
I have tried uninstalling the drive through device manager, then rebooting and letting the computer find and reinstall it, but that does not solve the problem. I have tried running the Troubleshooter, but it finds nothing wrong.
Two interesting things to add to all this: First, My wife's Toshiba laptop works fine. I can take the exact same blank CD that my 2 computers cannot write to, put it in her's and drag and drop files to it just fine.
Second, All three computers can then read that CD, and any others that were written on her computer.
