Making A Recovery Disc For Windows XP Pro, SP3

Dec 9, 2012

I intend to load Ubuntu 10.04 onto my home desktop machine while retaining Win XP as well. I'll be creating a dual boot system, in other words, and then using XP only to run Photoshop. The rest of the stuff I need to do gets done just fine with Firefox, Open Office and Thunderbird.

The discussions about how to do this indicate a "restore disc" for XP should be created prior to starting, unless you still have the disc that came with the system.

I have the original Dell OS "re-installation" disc, still in the envelope with the key printed on the back.

My question: is the "re-installation" disc that came with the computer the same as a "recovery disc"? If not, what is the difference? And how do I go about creating a "recovery" disc.

Making A Windows Disc Complete With Updates

Oct 13, 2012

I am going to be reformatting all the laptops before resale. Now downloading all the updates is very frustrating, but I have been advised to use a piece of software called Macrium Reflect, which basically copies the complete hard drive, so you have a perfect back up.So my plan is to make a fresh install of windows, update Windows fully, and them make an exact image of that hard drive. What I then plan to do, is install this copy onto all the laptops (Using the unique windows key), which basically saves me wasting hours per laptop updating. My problem is, when you format a laptop, some drivers are already installed, where others are not. I do not know exactly what determines why some drivers are already installed and some are not, but anyway, if I took the complete image of the hard drive, of lets say a Toshiba laptop, then put all that data on to an Acer laptop for example, would I get conflict between already installed drivers?

By this, I would not install any manually downloaded drivers onto the Toshiba until after the image is taken, meaning the only drivers moved between laptops are the pre-installed ones.

Making Windows Recovery Discs?

Dec 29, 2011

I'm helping a friend with her windows 7 emachine (64 bit) and when its all back in working order, I'd like to make her a set of recovery discs but I have a few questions before proceeding. I read that you only get the option of doing it once - so it better be right the first time.I've found instructions for making a repair disc, also instructions for creating recovery discs - would those be the same? The computer did not come with any os disc at all, so I'm wondering if making repair/recovery disc is possible without an os disc?

Making Windows Recovery Discs

Mar 28, 2012

I bought a refurbished dell laptop with windows 7 on it the other day but I'm normally a linux user. I am trying to make a disc image but it is behaving a bit weirdly. I follow the steps but after it made the first disc, it tells me to insert another disc and also label it newuser pc with the date and the number 1. Not long ago, I made back up discs for a friends windows 7 desktop and it did not behave this way, it instructed to use 2, 3, etc for the next discs. I'm not sure if this thing is making any progress or not.

Disc ASUS Recovery Error 1029, Cannot Boot Into That Recovery Partition

Jun 23, 2012

I've gotten to the point where I need to just reinstall windows completely on my Asus G74SX (too many problems, I want to start fresh.). I encounter an error 1029 with Asus's recovery disks that I made when I had windows working: it says it is recovering all the way to 100% then doesnt work. I am in the process of trying it again so I'll see if it actually managed to wipe my hard drive like it said it was doing, and maybe if it did actually work and reinstall windows. However, I'd like to be able to get into the recovery partition because I would prefer restoring it with Asus as they recommend me to. However, when I hit F9, their target to get there, it doesn't do anything and just reloads the boot screen, with the Asus logo on it. I don't have an actual Wndows recovery CD so that's not an option, and at this point since my hard drive has likely been wiped by these recovery DVDs, I don't think going into Ubuntu and fixing the MBR will do me much good anymore. It may be worth noting that before I last restarted, I marked the Windows partition as active because of a tutorial here, making it so that recovery partition isn't active anymore.

Making An Install Disc From A Preloaded Installation?

Recently I purchased a refurbished laptop from Circuit City with W7 preloaded. However, they did not include any sort of media with it aside from the free antivirus; no repair/install disc, no drivers, nothing. I was wondering if it is possible to create a W7 install disc from the preloaded installation of W7 and how it is done if it is possible.

Information On Recovery Disc Hp Windows 7

Feb 11, 2012

new hp windows 7 I'm trying to create recovery disc and I started it and didn't get the dvdr in fast enough and it started, you can't stop it once it starts. So after it copied the partition or tryed to. I started and put the dvdr in this time but I wonder if I didn't ruin the part of the drive I need to make the recovery disc. How can I check to see if the dvdr I had in there has the information I need in case down the road I need it? Would I just put the dvdr in the computer and open it at the hard drive? Maybe see the files there? I had w-xp before and I had no trouble making recovery disc there.

Recovering Windows 7 64bit Using AsusG72GX Recovery Disc?

Oct 24, 2010

I got a pretty bad virus on my Asus G72GX-A1, from which I could not get rid off. After backing up decided to run the Windows 7 Recovery Media Disc included with the computer.I booted up the computer from the recovery disc, selected the language and selected recover windows 7 at HD with 2 partitions. The program starts a counter, which goes to 100%, afterwards it prompts me to insert the support disc. After inserting the disc, a cmd windows opens up and apparently it runs a program calles AsCopy.exe.After some time, the computer restarts and, at the Setup is starting services screen, an error message pops up with the following message: "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation."I did the same process over 10 times, tried the options of recovering just the windows partition and the entire HD, but I get the same problem over and over again.

Windows 7 Home X64 SP1 Repair Disc - Unable To Start Recovery

Nov 10, 2011

I have successfully created a Windows 7 Repair Disc using the "Create a system repair disc" from Control_Panel->Backup_and_Restore

When I attempt to reboot, using the Repair Disc I have just created, everything appears to work - Loads files, Windows wavy flag, etc. however; just as I am about to get into the real stuff I receive the following message:

This version of System Recovery Options is not compatible with the version of Windows you are trying to repair.

This is exactly the ssame message I get if I boot from the original Window 7 DVD and elect Repair option

This is really important to me as when I use F8 during Post I do not have the options to repair the system here either and it freaks me a bit to be unable to repair the system should anything happen

Windows 7: Recovery Disc Content When Created By Dell Inspiron Setup

Apr 8, 2012

I have a new Dell Inspiron 620MT with Windows 7 and have just run the Setup procedures. This included the creation of 3 DVD's for Recovery Disks. My hard drive has 33 GB of content as delivered, including Microsoft Office Home and Business and several "freebies" Dell includes. The setup told me my 3 DVD's include 10.88GB, I "think" but am not sure Setup told me it was using compression to load the DVD's. What is the content of these 3 DVD's? I've called Dell multiple times and get conflicting, contradictory and changing answers to my question? I am wondering if it is ONLY Windows 7 or is it some partial or complete set of everything on my hard drive? Unrelated, Dell support sent me a flash drive of Windows 7 restore software that is "bootable." I looked at it and it contains only 4GB. That is why I am thinking there may be more content on the 3 DVD's 10.88 GB. I simply want to know what I have as a base in the way of backup BEFORE I migrate everything from my 7 year very old Dell Dimension 3000.

Recovery Disc Not Working?

My friend's Sony Vaio recently stopped working. It's displaying a black screen and the words "Operating system not found." I tried to do a system restore on it but half-way through it reported an error and aborted. Since a recovery disc wasn't provided or made, we bought one from a website provided by Neosmart.net and burned it onto a blank CD. The CD starts up but the problem is that it can't find the Windows 7 operating system. It was the only OS installed on the hard drive.

Create Own Recovery Disc?

Dec 14, 2011

My sister gave me her laptop to do some repairs. I have been working on this thing for more hours than I wish to admit (mostly scans running like the Ad-Ware scan that is now on hour 7). Between her, and her 2 kids using it its has too much going on that need to be removed. The Laptop has a Vista sticker on it but was upgrade and is running 7 Home Premium. She purchased it from her neighbor who she no longer associates with. So the odds of her getting the 7 Home Premium DVD from her are slim to none.I have went through and cleaned up most of the crap and am working on getting it to run a smooth as new (or better once de-crapped). can I create a restore disc once I get it to the point I am now that will be just as good as any restore disc?

Recovery Disc Not Working?

Apr 21, 2012

New to the forums, kind of a novice with computers and I'm at a loss with what to do.Okay so my Acer Aspire 7551 running Windows 7 Premium Home 64bit was acting funny so I decided to do a system restore. So I put in the Acer Recovery Discs that I made when I first purchased the computer. Now I have used this discs before with no problems at all. So I put the first disc in, selected the option to do a complete system restore back to factory defaults. It's my understanding that this completely wipes the OS off the HDD. So the first disc ran with no problems. I put the second disc in and got an error message Fail to copy to HDD: D:PatchModulesWIncre.002WOP000460OX0TCB111.SWM Press OK to continue I press OK to continue, and it boots back to the BIOS screen. Then it goes to a black screen and says BOOTMGR IS MISSING. PRESS CTRL+ALT+DEL TO CONTINUE.So I put the recovery disc back in to try the process over again and same thing happens.
