Dec 6, 2009I will have the chance to move a Toshiba Satellite L300-1DN from Vista HP (pre-installed) to Windows 7 Pro (clean install).
Am in two minds about this and would like to see significantly less CPU use to make it worth it otherwise I will save my disk for another project.
Also has anyone had experience of clean installs of Windows 7 on Toshiba laptops with Vista on them and are there any functionality problems to watch out for in this process?

May 15, 2009im running Windows 7 on a toshiba l300 lappy it orignaly had vista on it but im not in to it for many reasons so i decided to try Windows 7 every thing went well on the install the only prob i have found at the moment is that i have no driver for the built in webcam.

Nov 8, 2009I use Toshiba L300, after upgrading (custom install) my OS from vista home premium to windows 7 professional, my webcam does not work. It uses chicony camera assistance software for toshiba. Everytime, I get an error message "webcam driver open fail. restart your camera or computer". I checked the toshiba support site for dirver update, but it says the vista driver for that webcam is compatible with windows 7 as well. I reinstalled/restarted several times, however, I can't make it work anyway! Help me please. Thanks.

Feb 23, 2009I upgraded windows Vista on my Toshiba satellite L300 (intel 45 express chipset,core 2 Duo 2GHz processor) with Windows 7. All drivers taken automatically. But when I started Webcam (chicony webcam) a message appeared: "Webcam driver open fail.
Please restart Camera or Computer." Message persists after restarting repeatedly. Same with Modem, When I tried to connect Internet on Dial up modem, message appeared "Dial tone not present." Actually Dial tone was present. Device manager is showing both devices as "Working Properly". Can any one suggest solution?
Making Windows Recovery Discs?
Dec 29, 2011I'm helping a friend with her windows 7 emachine (64 bit) and when its all back in working order, I'd like to make her a set of recovery discs but I have a few questions before proceeding. I read that you only get the option of doing it once - so it better be right the first time.I've found instructions for making a repair disc, also instructions for creating recovery discs - would those be the same? The computer did not come with any os disc at all, so I'm wondering if making repair/recovery disc is possible without an os disc?

Mar 28, 2012I bought a refurbished dell laptop with windows 7 on it the other day but I'm normally a linux user. I am trying to make a disc image but it is behaving a bit weirdly. I follow the steps but after it made the first disc, it tells me to insert another disc and also label it newuser pc with the date and the number 1. Not long ago, I made back up discs for a friends windows 7 desktop and it did not behave this way, it instructed to use 2, 3, etc for the next discs. I'm not sure if this thing is making any progress or not.

Dec 9, 2012I intend to load Ubuntu 10.04 onto my home desktop machine while retaining Win XP as well. I'll be creating a dual boot system, in other words, and then using XP only to run Photoshop. The rest of the stuff I need to do gets done just fine with Firefox, Open Office and Thunderbird.
The discussions about how to do this indicate a "restore disc" for XP should be created prior to starting, unless you still have the disc that came with the system.
I have the original Dell OS "re-installation" disc, still in the envelope with the key printed on the back.
My question: is the "re-installation" disc that came with the computer the same as a "recovery disc"? If not, what is the difference? And how do I go about creating a "recovery" disc.
