No Wireless And Stretched Screen After Reinstall?
Jan 15, 2013
So I have managed to reinstall windows 7 after my Dell laptop went a bit coo coo....nd everything seemed fine, but the screen seemed stretched.I went into the Screen Resolution settings and I only have two options, neither seem to sort it out. Then I tried to connect to the wireless Internet but it doesn't exist. Like, literally as if wireless isn't even supported. fn+F2 does nothing

My computer recently told me to install some updates, I usually don't bother and just leave it but this time I installed them. However, after the updates had installed, I went back to my laptop to see that the screen resolution is 'stretched'. I have done the following
- Set it to the highest resolution
- Made icons small instead of medium
The highest resolution it will allow is 1204 x 768 but this is not what it used to be. I have no idea what the old setting was but I do know this look isn't right. I also started my computer in safe mode, and it had a higher resolution when I edited the settings that was the right one but when I restarted my laptop, it went back to the smaller size. Web pages don't look right and there is always a horizontal scroll bar (no my page isn't zoomed in, the toolbars, tabs everything is different).

I just bought 5 computers with windows7home and am trying to upgrade to pro. the seller sold me 7pro install disks rather than upgrades. When I install them, my screen resolution is stretched and the computer no longer sees any internet connections nor recognizes any communication devices. It loads windows directly without giving me a chance to go into the bios. It did store the home version in a .old format, but I cant find a way to uninstall pro.

After I had to reinstall my Windows 7 OS and the Samsung drivers onto a new internal hard drive, my screen images appear to be somewhat stretched sideways from normal. I right-clicked the desktop screen and was given only two screen resolutions to pick from, thinking perhaps was the problem, but neither option changed my problem.

I had a serious laptop error on my Samsung, and I had to pull the data off my hard drive, then reinstall Windows 7 using a neighbor's installation disk (I lost mine in a move). Now, my laptop thinks it doesn't have a wireless card, so I won't be able to get online wirelessly.

Just reinstalled my windows 7 home premium after having some issues and thus far everything is working swell, except for the fact that I can't seem to find any wireless connections under connections available- I can't even seem to set up wireless connections.
I know nothing is wrong inside the computer since my splash top allows me to go onto the internet wirelessly- so I'm guessing this has something to do with me just installing windows 7 home premium again.
Without the internet I can't download drivers or get windows updates-
Looked in device manager and there are three exclamations next to these drivers:
standard VGA Graphics Adapter
Network Controller
Unknown device
Can't seem to fix the exclamations since I can't get internet access (only have wireless net) Is there anything I can download and burn to get these drivers working?

Installed new hard drive and Windows 7, wireless card shows up as unknown device.I was having major stability issues with windows. I wanted a new hard drive so i installed it and a new copy of windows. The wireless worked fine before, and ethernet works fine now. It shows up in device manager as other devices, network controller with a yellow exclamation mark. I have gone to Dell to install the driver. It almost finishes then says you do not have a recognized wireless device.
My comp is a Dell Inspiron M5010, I installed windows 7 HP 64 bit same as what was on before. WHDPC, K5Y6D are the numbers I have found for the card. I have tried several different drivers and all have the same error.
how to get windows to recognize the card so the drivers I install will recognize it? There are many threads about this in various places, but none of the solutions work.

My system opened with a red screen and I havent been able to get passed that screen. I tried to reinstall my windows 7 install disk, but all it did was keep getting to the make user name and password screen and from there just started over with the loading files screen. It would never complete the install.

So this started out as a driver issue - I couldn't seem to install the updated drivers for my ati radeon hd 5 series (I don't have access to my actual specs right now) video card no matter what I tried. Each time it would seemingly revert to the awful on-board graphics and I would have to perform a system restore to correct it. Rinse and repeat. Eventually, I tried one forum poster's recommendation of updating my bios, which managed to bork the computer so bad that it broke the system restore function altogether. So, time to reinstall windows. The computer is a dell xps9100 and didn't come with a windows 7 cd, so I restored to the factory image of windows 7 through the advanced boot menu. It seemed to work, but when it rebooted I got the windows logo and then nothing (black screen, no cursor).

I am having trouble changing how the wallpaper is displayed on my desktop, from stretch to center.
I go to: Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Personalization > Desktop Background, and change the "Picture position" from 'stretch' to 'center'. When I click Save Changes, the change is not made and when I go back to fix it, the option is reverted back to stretch instead of center like how I changed it.
The reason for this is because the wallpaper is slightly larger than my desktop size, so when it is set to stretch, it compresses the image and distorts it. The only way I can temporarily fix this is to set an image on the internet as a background but it eventually reverts to stretch when I restart or log out.

After I type my password to log in I get a black screen with a mouse for about 2 minutes before the desktop loads. The thing I found that seems to be causing the problem is my wireless card. If turn wireless off windows will go directly from login screen to desktop, with wireless on I get this long delay. I'm using Windows 7 Ult. x64 and my wireless card is Atheros AR5007EG.

I had 2 partitions on my HDD, one for windows 7 and one for backup. I wanted to reinstall windows but keep the backup partition so i put in my install dvd and booted up from it. At the manage partitions point i think i saw 5 partitions:
The 100mb for windows files
The windows Partition
The Backup Partition
A 1megabyte partition
And a zero megabyte partition.
I deleted all the partitions except the backup. I made a new one for windows. I procceed with the installation and everything went good, until when the installer rebooted the system. And thats where's my problem. The bios detects the HDD and stops there. It happend with me before with my 500gb hdd and thats why i bought this 1tb one but now i dont want to spend money again for that if i dont have to. Maybe i deleted a partition that was for the hdd to work propely? And if so is there anyway to reset that?

This Dell Vostro is 2 years old, it has Windows 7 installed. When the internal wireless card is turned on, it connects alright for about 5 minutes and then the computer will BSOD or Black Screen then restart. Ethernet works fine.It has a strange behavior history. Before reformat, I ran Malwarebytes which detected malware in Adobe CS5, after clearing that up it stopped BSODing for a day of constant use. Then the wireless card stopped working at all. Windows could not even detect it for a few days. After the Windows reformat and reinstall it started working for half a day. Had the latest Dell driver installed for it.Today it BSOD's and Black screens after a few minutes. We have to turn off the radio toggle to keep it from crashing Windows. There was liquid spill about a month and a half ago. It was about an 1/4 cup of wine, attended to promptly. Within seconds of the spill it was shut down and put in front of a dehumidifier for a few days and turned upside down. It is possible it corrupted the card or card slot, but we have no other issues with the computer. I don't suspect this but it is worth mentioning. Our next step is to purchase a new card, examine for corrosion on the slot or card, but.......I have to say I still suspect a software conflict.
What has already been done:
Reformated and reinstalled Win 7
Uninstalled and reinstalled the card drivers
Updated all service packs and win updates.

In a few days time I will be changing my ISP in the UK from Sky to BT.
BT are providing me with their newest wireless router free of charge as part of the deal and I'll be using that to set up my wireless network, which will consist of an HP Pavilion desktop, a Toshiba laptop, a Sony Vaio laptop, an HP wireless printer and a Samsung HDTV.
This means my Sky wireless router is surplus to requirements, so I was wondering if I could convert it to a wireless access point to improve the range of my BT wireless network.
I've read a couple of supposedly easy-to-understand articles on Google and have to say they left me more confused than ever.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1520 Laptop and stuck windows 7 RTM 32 bit on it. All was well but now connecting wirelessly is slow. Like slower then 56k modem slow. I have a Dell 802.11n wireless mini card installed that works PERFECTLY under windows XP. I was getting 80 % signal strength under Win 7 and getting 1 mbps where as in XP I was getting 78 to 100 mbps with the same signal strength. Oh and ethernet works perfectly fine.
For a time I was able to download the corresponding vista driver from dell and then replace the driver that win 7 automatically installs for it, then flipped the card switch off and on and it would work like it should for a while, but then reverted to the same slow network speeds once the laptop was reset or turned off and on. Now flipping the switch or re-installing doesn't work either. I've tried resetting the router, no go and none of my other computers or products have a problem with it. I've tried doing a few things suggested in other posts, like assigning a static ip, disabling ipv6, etc... Nothing has worked.
I'd love someone who knows what it may be or has heard of this precise problem, although I think I may be stuck waiting until Win 7 makes it debut in Oct and until Dell releases a proper 7 driver for it.
Laptop: Dell Inspiron 1520
Wireless Card: Dell brand mini draft 802.11n card
Router: DLink DGL-4500 draft 802.11n

I have three PCs that connect to my home network wireless and two others that connect wired through a hub. Periodically one of the wireless PCs will see the other wireless devices but not the wired ones. This morning I installed some Win 7 updates and after the restart my laptop can't see the wired devices. My wife's Win 7 laptop sees everything. So the problem is intermittent. I have fiddled with Advanced Settings in Network Sharing, such as turning Network Discovery off and back on again. I can't seem to find the silver bullet that will cure this problem when it occurs.

I removed Internet Explorer 9 after having some problems with it here on this 64 bit machine. Now Firefox has upgraded to version 5 and is no longer compatible with my Dishnetwork Slingplayer. This means I can't watch my Dish programming on the road.
Anyway if I try to reload IE9 it says it can't install because a newer version is already loaded. It does not appear on the program list under "add or remove programs"!
