New Registry Backup Tool
Jun 1, 2012
I received Don's permission to tell you about this program. It is for the average user like me who cannot run ERUNT on Win 7 with a schedule and without the hard workarounds. It is being released from Beta Sunday June 3rd '12'.I have system restore and Acronis but sometimes you cannot get to system restore from within windows or for corruption issues and Acronis takes awhile. This can be found @ tweaking.com where the owner, Shane has developed this for the normal user. Read the threads about it, watch the videos etc. It is so ez with three tabs to backup, restore and settings. There are even shots to show you how to restore if youcan't boot up. The last part was too hard for me so he made it easier. I only know him because he replied to my request for an ERUNT replacement -he was the only one of ten people. It is going to have videos, tutorials and prntscns shots to make it ez.I asked around for along time because so many techs swear by ERUNT and I wanted it or a replacement. Unfortunatley the author of ERUNT developed it up to XP but Win 7 users were stuck unless very techy. This is what I was avidly looking for and he said awhile ago he woud do it.So, if you are like me and make errors you would like to erase, add another backup tool to your toolbox. It is freeware and he promises there are no nasties.

While windows was uploading some updates yesterday, I cleaned my registry using Iolo's system mechanic tool and that's where the problems started. (I already read and understood your message: don't use those tools and stay out of your registry. A lesson I learned too late, unfortunately.)My computer rebooted and after a couple of minutes I noticed the message: " failure configuring windows features reverting changes ". I managed to bypass this loop by running in safe mode and recover my computer to a restore point in the past. This only worked partially: I get windows to run in normal mode but I get this message: "system failed while restoring the registry from the restore point. Restore point damaged or was deleted during restore". So it didn't restore but I can get into my windows now.So I don't get the 'reverting change loop' anymore, so I can access my computer but what's the mess? Well my computer is slow as hell.Like mentioned above, I already looked around on this forum and wrote down what I already tried. [code] My computer is terrible slow because of a registry defrag/optimization of a registry tool (in combination with windows update) --> I need to find a way to get back my old registry files but system recovery ain't working.

I back up my music, photos, docs from time to time using win 7s built in backup toolWhen I back my stuff up does the software backup just the new entries? As it would be pointless already backing up stuff that's been backed up previous.

Right now I am backing up all my files and folders through SyncToy (for easy access) but I'd like to also back up my entire Windows image with the same kind of automatic method (only transfers changes from the previous backup). Is there a free or paid program that does this?

W7 x64 ult OS. Something went wrong. My system will no longer boot - the error message lists registry corrupt. I am 99% sure it is not a virus.I have another drive with a W7 system on it in the same box and I can boot from that.It is just a basic clean install test system, but I can access all the drives. Is there a backup registry file I can use to replace the corrupt one........and which files are the registry? Is there anything else to do to recover othere than a clean install?I can't do a repair install because it has to boot to the system first.Unless. Can I do a repair install on the bad drive from a boot to the good drive?

im needing to backup some applications, it would make things a whole lot easier when reinstalling windows. isnt there an application where i can either point it to the main executable of a program, or its shortcut in teh start menu and this program will read into the uninstall and grab all the registry data into a file, so that i can save this info along with the directory of teh application itself?
This way i can cut and paste the app over to the new location (another operating system of the same type) then run this application that will spit the registry entries in for the app. Then i can create a shortcut and when i run it i dont want it to complain about any registry problems, etc.

I have been using WIN 7 for some time now and , until lately , had no reason to backup the Registry. However due to a problem I had with MS Office , it became advisable to take the precaution of creating a Registry Backup before proceeding with some changes there. It seems the Registry Backup procedure described in these Forums is more involved than it was in XP if I have interpreted the instructions correctly. whether such a Backup can be done by simply going into Regedit and , assuming a full Registry Backup id desired, , right clicking on the "Computer" icon there and selecting "EXPORT" and then choosing a name for the resulting file and a destination to save it ?

While System Restore usually does what it is supposed to do, sometimes it doesn't. When I am intending to do something a bit drastic or unusual on my desktop now, I routinely make a full registry backup. (Start/Run/type REGEDIT/OK/File/Export. Name and save the file in Documents) On my machine this takes 20 - 30 secs and results in a file around 200 MB. I have never had to use one of these backups to restore this machine so far

I created an image using the Microsoft Backup and Restore tool in Windows 7. I saved the image on a network shared folder.I then went to the Advanced Recovery Methods in Windows to restore my image...that I just created. It restarts the computer and goes into recovery mode, I point to where the image is located, I entered the network credentials and it give me an error. "The Specified network resource or device is no longer available. (0x80070037)"

Any simple backup program that is capable of backing up large files incrementally by splitting the file and backing up only changed parts of the file? The files I'm talking about are files that get altered by appending stuff at the end of the file, e.g. log files or mailbox files, so it's generally possible to split a new version of the file at the exact point where the old version stopped, purely by file size.
Specifically, I want to back up Thunderbird and SeaMonkey mailboxes without having to create additional subfolders within those programs. I understand that if something had changed near the beginning of the file, then the whole file will have to be backed up, unless the backup program is capable of some very clever searching, but mostly the files will change only by having data appended to it.

I'm running Windows 7 64x Home Premium on a Toshiba Qosmio X505 laptop. I just got it back from the warranty repair center, where they replaced the hard drive and graphics fan & heatsink, and reloaded the factory windows version. Before I sent it out for repair, I used Windows Backup to create a backup of all my files on a Toshiba casio 500GB external USB drive (I had over 300 GB of files, so it was easier to use Windows Backup than drag and drop all the files, at least at the time). Now that I have the laptop back, I'm having trouble restoring my files. When I go to Control Panel-> Backup & Restore, a message appears in the restore section, saying "Windows could not find a backup for this computer." I've tried reconnecting the drive as well as restarting my computer, but to no avail. I can see and explore the files in My Computer, so I know the hard drive is properly connected.

When you wish to recover your system using this utility, do you use the Windows program at desktop or the rescue disc I created from the program? The reasn I ask is because I used to have better luck using Acronis' disc rather than the program and wonderd if the same applied here. Also, does the backup remove the existing one so that you only have one at a time or can you have more than one.

I backup 100GB of data with Windows Backup and over the time where I do all my backups there is like only 30GB of data which changed from those 100GB and also new files were added. Now my external drive is full. When I now delete the very early backup, the first one where the 100GB of data was saved, will it delete then ALL those 100 GB, or will it just delete the previous versions of the files which were modified AFTER that time, which are in this case the 30GB I talked about? Because otherwhise I would then have in the end an uncomplete, messed up backup.

I'm using Win 7 Pro and want to schedule several backups to my NAS. With Win XP, I was able to schedule multiple backup jobs, which makes things easier since I have 116 GB of data. I like to backup my documents, email files, etc. every week, but my photos, MP3s, etc. don't change as frequently so once a month is fine for that. Not surprisingly, the media collection takes much longer to backup, which is another reason I try to separate it from my "regular" backup.Unfortunately, Win 7 backup only seems to allow one backup job to be scheduled, which seems awfully limited. Am I missing something? Are there other free backup utilities that would work better, or do I need to shell out some cash?

Not sure if this is in the right part of the forums? but here we go. I am formating and reinstalling windows 7. I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 laptop. Intel 2.3 ghz duel core, cpu. upgraded to 4 gig of ram. done months ago. New 750 gig HDD. New to this install. just bought it. Installed with a dell windows 7 disk. It activated fine. had a few problem with the install. could not install Windows 7 usb dvd tool could not install Office 2010. Did get NOD 32 install and all the windows updates. I figured there was aglitch in the install. I formated and reinstalled windows 7 from a usb drive i created on another computer. that i just installed the windows 7 usb dvd tool on. windows loaded fine, so first thing i tried to install the windows 7 usb dvd tool would not install. so formated and started again. All went well windows 7 activated fine. tried to install the windows 7 usb dvd tool again no joy. so I went ahead and installed all the updates. NOD 32. windows office all went well. tried again to install the Win 7 usb dvd tool no joy. I have googled the problem there is no info out there on this problem. I searched the problem in this forum nothing. I had this tool running on the original install before i started this whole thing and it worked fine. Any suggestion would be great! Nothing invested but time!

I purchased 4GB of RAm a few mnths ago and also got a copy of Vista HP64. From the get go I had all sort of issues in Vista - games would not run, the OS seemed to crash a lot, would get messages like MS Outlooks data file was not closed properly. Windows defender would crash all the time.Tried about 15 different nVidia drivers... gave up. I tried 3 different HDDs too.
So anyway I moved back to XP because I assumed it was simply Vista.
This week I downloaded Win7RC1!! I'd heard nothing but greta things on podcasts, in forums etc. So i installed.
From the start I've had again defender crashing, "windows logon" errors, action centre shows me a LOT of errors that it's detetced and fixed. I get a few "explorer has stopped working" errors too. UGH! Games do not work - they freeze either on loading or after 30 seconds or so of gaming. I've had 4 or so BSODs which I had heard were basically unheard of in Windows 7! They were of varying variety.
All these erros in 3 days worth of running Windows 7? Seems a lot.... and errors on core components of Windows 7 too.

I am regarded as the family and friends computer problem solver and in a lot of cases e.g. slowdown/virus etc it is just doing a bit of housekeeping which they don't or can't be bother doing. However this takes a bit of time and I was wondering if there was a good tool out there that you would recommend to save me crawling through their PCs uninstalling unused programs, clearing out .tmp files etc etc - you know the kind of things.
