i quite like this program.it creates a full registry backup on the 1st boot of the day. i can see the files at the end of some horrendously long path. but have never been able to figure out a simple way of switching to the registry as backed up this morning.Can someone shed some light to this?

I created a disc image of my computer but I am wondering if there is software that will create a daily backup by checking for any files that are different so that it does not have to make a new disc image daily. I plan on leaving my regular computer and this backup drive always on. Is this possible and what software is recommended?

I am 99% sure it is not a virus.I have another drive with a W7 system on it in the same box and I can boot from that.It is just a basic clean install test system, but I can access all the drives.Is there a backup registry file I can use to replace the corrupt one........and which files are the registry?Is there anything else to do to recover othere than a clean install?I can't do a repair install because it has to boot to the system first.Unless. Can I do a repair install on the bad drive from a boot to the good drive?

It is for the average user like me who cannot run ERUNT on Win 7 with a schedule and without the hard workarounds.It is being released from Beta Sunday June 3rd '12'.I have system restore and Acronis but sometimes you cannot get to system restore from within windows or for corruption issues and Acronis takes awhile.This can be found @ tweaking.com where the owner, Shane has developed this for the normal user. Read the threads about it, watch the videos etc. It is so ez with three tabs to backup, restore and settings. There are even shots to show you how to restore if youcan't boot up. The last part was too hard for me so he made it easier. I only know him because he replied to my request for an ERUNT replacement -he was the only one of ten people.It is going to have videos, tutorials and prntscns shots to make it ez.I asked around for along time because so many techs swear by ERUNT and I wanted it or a replacement. Unfortunatley the author of ERUNT developed it up to XP but Win 7 users were stuck unless very techy.This is what I was avidly looking for and he said awhile ago he woud do it.So, if you are like me and make errors you would like to erase, add another backup tool to your toolbox.It is freeware and he promises there are no nasties.
View 2 Replies View Relatedim needing to backup some applications, it would make things a whole lot easier when reinstalling windows. isnt there an application where i can either point it to the main executable of a program, or its shortcut in teh start menu and this program will read into the uninstall and grab all the registry data into a file, so that i can save this info along with the directory of teh application itself?
This way i can cut and paste the app over to the new location (another operating system of the same type) then run this application that will spit the registry entries in for the app. Then i can create a shortcut and when i run it i dont want it to complain about any registry problems, etc.
I have been using WIN 7 for some time now and , until lately , had no reason to backup the Registry. However due to a problem I had with MS Office , it became advisable to take the precaution of creating a Registry Backup before proceeding with some changes there. It seems the Registry Backup procedure described in these Forums is more involved than it was in XP if I have interpreted the instructions correctly. whether such a Backup can be done by simply going into Regedit and , assuming a full Registry Backup id desired, , right clicking on the "Computer" icon there and selecting "EXPORT" and then choosing a name for the resulting file and a destination to save it ?

When I am intending to do something a bit drastic or unusual on my desktop now, I routinely make a full registry backup. (Start/Run/type REGEDIT/OK/File/Export. View 9 Replies View RelatedYesterday, I was reading an article about a program that removes every crumb left behind from uninstalling programs, sniffing out all junk files and had some useful tools on it. It's called Reno Uninstaller and I tried it out on XP Pro and it found over 400MB of junk files, bits of uninstalled files and their registry entries and other crap.
Having nothing to lose on that laptop, I cleaned them. Is this program safe for Windows 7, and is there such a thing as too much cleaning when it comes to programs that you no longer use or want to uninstall. When you use it to uninstall, it claims that there's no trace of it left behind. Is this a safe alternative to the default Windows program, or could I be flirting with disaster?

(I already read and understood your message: don't use those tools and stay out of your registry. A lesson I learned too late, unfortunately.)My computer rebooted and after a couple of minutes I noticed the message: " failure configuring windows features reverting changes ". I managed to bypass this loop by running in safe mode and recover my computer to a restore point in the past. So it didn't restore but I can get into my windows now.So I don't get the 'reverting change loop' anymore, so I can access my computer but what's the mess? bought 3 weeks ago. Been crashing from day one one or two times a day.Ive tried to update the audiodrivers and the LAN-drivers but still BSODS. Most of the BSODS are memory_management but Ive gotten a few others (page fault in non paged area and pfn_list_corrupt)Ive also done the windows memcheck and found no errors.Unfortunately I cant use the perfmon to generate a report. I get an error and Ive tried the guide here making sure the right services are started and set to manual but I just cant get it to work.
I am not confidant that I posess the skills, vocabulary or knowledge needed to participate in this forum however this random shut down problem has become so regular that I require some assistance. Essentially it feels like every time I leave the computer unattended for more than an hour or two I return to find the black screen of death telling me my computer did not shut down properly. Attached is the SF Tools file you reference. - Have figured out how to use Event viewer - 17 Critical Event occurances involving Kernal-power (Event ID41 Task Category63) since 2012_06_02; 1xJune 02, 1xJune 06, 1xJun 18, 1xJun 23, 2xAug 08, 3xAug 10, 1xAug 11, then twice daily since the 12th.

I've tried hiding them, but they just come back a day or so later. View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery morning about 30-45 minutes after boot the computer BSOD. Looking at the Nirsoft bluescreen review its caused most of the time by Threatfire which is a PCTools file the antivirus run on the machine.
Back in December prior to PCTools I had Microsoft AV on and AVG each seemed to cause the same problem.
I've run the windows 7 memory check but if I change it to run more than 2 times it freezes and never completes. Spybot, PCtools, Sophos, never found any significant threats

I've recently had quite a few system crashes on my desktop. After I got the first one, they have been rather frequent, 1-5 times per day, usually when watching videos. I have tried reinstalling windows, flashing bios, updating misc drivers, ran CHKDSK on both my os ssd and storage hhd, but in vain.

I have no other components connected to the computer. I have attached a zip including 6 minidumps.
I have an ASUS n80vn laptop that is about 3 years old. It came with OEM Windows Vista, but I installed my own copy of Windows 7 Professional 64bit more than two years ago, and there was no problem upon installation.
Lately (for about a month), I have been receiving BSOD either during boot or the log-in screen. The BSOD usually happens only once per day, and I would be forced to restart my computer. No BSOD upon restart. I suspect the problem occurs when the laptop is cold. I have attached the BSOD Dump files collected over the past month.
The only driver change I've had was nVidia graphic driver updates. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the two most recent drivers and the BSOD problem still occurs.
On a side note, I have been getting random freeze-ups too, and this has been happening before the BSOD problem. These freezes occur when I'm doing regular tasks such as web browsing or typing in Word/Excel etc. When my system freezes, there is no BSOD, but nothing can be moved (keyboard + mouse won't do anything). Closing lid does nothing too. Strangely, I have not been getting this kind of freezes when I play games.
