Daily BSOD On Cold Boots & Random Freezes

Nov 24, 2011

I have an ASUS n80vn laptop that is about 3 years old. It came with OEM Windows Vista, but I installed my own copy of Windows 7 Professional 64bit more than two years ago, and there was no problem upon installation.

Lately (for about a month), I have been receiving BSOD either during boot or the log-in screen. The BSOD usually happens only once per day, and I would be forced to restart my computer. No BSOD upon restart. I suspect the problem occurs when the laptop is cold. I have attached the BSOD Dump files collected over the past month.

The only driver change I've had was nVidia graphic driver updates. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the two most recent drivers and the BSOD problem still occurs.

On a side note, I have been getting random freeze-ups too, and this has been happening before the BSOD problem. These freezes occur when I'm doing regular tasks such as web browsing or typing in Word/Excel etc. When my system freezes, there is no BSOD, but nothing can be moved (keyboard + mouse won't do anything). Closing lid does nothing too. Strangely, I have not been getting this kind of freezes when I play games.

Quick rundown of specs:
-Windows 7 Professional 64bit (retail)
-Age of hardware: ~3 years
-Age of OS: ~2
-Processor: Intel core duo P8600 2.40 GHz
-RAM: 4GB
-GPU: GeForce 9650m GT

Randomly Crashing At Random Intervals?

Dec 1, 2011

a few weeks ago my computer starting experiencing a few crashes. these initially only took place when playing a computer game such as world of warcraft. the crashes intially caused the monitor to go black losing connection, however the sound loops for about 10 - 15 seconds before finally stopping.

however in the last few weeks, the problem seems to have grown since it is crashing simply when the browser is open on such sites as Internet. the time between the crashes has also become more frequent.

Computer Shuts Down On Its Own At Random Intervals?

Dec 13, 2011

1. computers shuts down on its own2. The shutdown is elegant, all programs close down quickly and there is no BSOD or anything2b. it gives me the impression that the PC is acting as if someone ordered a shutdown with the -force option, closing all apps by brute force.3. It almost always happens very late at night between 2 to 5 am.. I have yet to realize if there is a pattern to this whole thing. It seems random and happens 3-4 times a month5. When i open the PC everything works like a charm.6. I have scanned the PC with Microsoft security essentials, Avira antivir and malware bytes antimalware, and no sort of virus was found.

Laptop Crash At Random Intervals?

Oct 20, 2012

I brought a HP Pavilion laptop from ebay quite a while ago now, the only problem listed was that the battery didn't work. The laptop worked fine for months and then it started to crash, when it crashed I couldn't do anything, the mouse wouldn't move and none of the keys would work either so all I could do was hold the power button in to shut it down. The charge light seems to flash just before the laptop crashes. I thought the problem might of been with the battery so I brought a new battery for the laptop. It still wouldn't recognise there was a battery plugged in, sometimes it won't have a red cross on the battery but will say "plugged in but not charging". I have noticed now that when the laptop does crash if I unplug the charger for a second and plug it back in (as the charge doesn't hold on the battery) the laptop will start working again. I was thinking the problem may lie with the charger or the bit inside the laptop the charger plugs into.

Continuous Hard Reset At Random Intervals

Dec 8, 2011

My computer will randomly reset itself and reboot from DOS and back to windows again. These intervals would range from 5 mins from startup to 3 hours or more so they are completely random. This has been happening for 1 year now. Recently the intervals have been getting shorter and shorter to the point where my computer will reset upon 2-5 min of start up after hitting windows guaranteed. I get no error messages or indications that it is about to happen. Normally I'd jump on the overheating bandwagon but the strange thing is, my computer does not reset ever if I am playing a graphics intensive Video Game (battlefield 3 to name one).

It only resets if I'm not really doing anything intensive such as word processing or browsing the web or watching a movie. All these simple tasks will cause my computer to reset after a random time period. Anything where my CPU/GPU churns into motion prevents these resets. This I cannot explain. A problem which also happens (and I feel might be related to cause this) is that if I ever shutdown my computer, it will not boot (windows cannot load). And I have to system restore to get my computer to run again. So I have never hit the shutdown button in a long time.

Very Difficult To Diagnose BSODs At Random Intervals

Apr 19, 2012

I've had a computer running rock solid for about 18mths. I've just used ~70% of it's parts to build a new computer for my dad and since then he's been experiencing constant BSODs. The computer is running a freshly installed over-the-counter bought OEM copy of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 which is up to date as of last week. It will run fine for an unpredictable length of time between 15mins to half a day then BSOD. Sometimes it will then get stuck into a "crash-reboot" cycle and he will have to hard power it off.

The computer is less 18mths old. The parts I have been using confidently over the last 18mths are as follows:
- MOBO: Gigabyte P55-UD4
- CPU: Intel i5 750 quad core (never overclocked).
- RAM: 2x(DDR3 2GB G.Skill 1333mhz)

The new components we installed are:
- GFX: Asus ATI HD5550
- HDD Sata 200GB Baracuda
- CD Drive: LG DVD writer on an IDE ribbon
- PSU: Antec VP450P 450w

I initially had an old install of Windows 7 on a 120GB Sata drive but when he started getting issues I installed a brand new OEM Windows 7 on the Sata 200GB and even changed the Sata cable. It ran fine for a day then started up again. From what I could see none of the crashes pointed toward gfx drivers - however I've noticed CPUz will only tell me that it's a HD5500 series card and gives me no other info so maybe it isn't being recognised properly . The only other thing to change was the PSU - which admittedly is a budget one (but from reviews should be reasonable) from deduction it's the only thing I can put it down to.

I have an issue with my computer, in firefox and other documents the page will randomly scroll slightly, up or down at random intervals. I originally thought that this was caused by an issue with my wireless mouse, but after unplugging my mouse and keyboard from the computer the problem still occurs. What could be causing this? Vipre is showing me as clean of virus and spyware, my video drivers are up to date, what else should I look into?

Whenever Try To Install A Game Or Program / Setup Process Freezes At Random Intervals

whenever I try to install a game or program (happens more often for games), the setup process freezes at random intervals. Not the kind of freeze where it crashes or gets the 'not responding' error message, but I can't click anything or advance to the next part of the setup until it goes away. It's really strange, and only started happening two weeks ago. I'm running Ultimate 32-bit.

Windows 7 BSOD Daily 30-45 Mins After Boot 0x1000008e

Feb 20, 2011

Every morning about 30-45 minutes after boot the computer BSOD. Looking at the Nirsoft bluescreen review its caused most of the time by Threatfire which is a PCTools file the antivirus run on the machine.

Back in December prior to PCTools I had Microsoft AV on and AVG each seemed to cause the same problem.

I've run the windows 7 memory check but if I change it to run more than 2 times it freezes and never completes. Spybot, PCtools, Sophos, never found any significant threats

HW:
Macbook air late 2008
2gb ram
Intel core 2 duo
Windows 7 enterprise 32bit

My next step is to try turning off Threatfire, effectively shutting of the antivirus.
