Windows 7 Pro 32 Won't See Network - Auto Configuration IPv4 Address
Mar 16, 2012We set up three new terminals this week at the office; they're all running Win 7 Pro 32-bit. I set them all up simultaneously (literally sat at a desk and entered the same keystrokes at each of them), so I don't see any obvious reason that one is behaving differently from the other two. The essential problem is that the terminal doesn't see the Internet. Here are all the particulars that I think might be interesting, listed in no particular order:
- The terminal ran fine for several hours. Email access, Internet access, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. At that point, the user called me to show me a dialog box. I used System Restore to go back in time to 9 a.m. in case the user had somehow managed to do anything (though she's not an admin).
- IPv6 is disabled.
- The workplace uses Static IPs. The IP address is entered correctly in the IPv4 properties (x.x.x.213), but at cmd / ipconfig, I get this result: "Autoconfiguration IPv4 address: 169.254.95.187"
- In Network and Sharing Center, the network (which is only known as Unidentified Network) is set to type Public. When I reset it to type Work and reboot, it resets to type Public.

May 18, 2012So today I started having this weird error message that my network mapped drive to the server downstairs was no longer functioning. The gist of it is that this setup has been functioning for months without hiccup or problem. The only thing that has changed is I recently converted my routers over to DD-WRT (v17990 for WNDR3400). I'm reasonably certain that this is not the issue since I can still punch in the server's IP into the network browser as \192.168.1.90 and it comes up (I can also ping it, and it shows up in the server browser for the game it hosts), but for whatever reason I can't use the server's actual machine name \mcs anymore as it gives me a connection timeout issue. So far this is what I've done:1.) Enabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP.
2.) Attempted to enable Network Discovery, but for some reason on Server 2008 R2 that option doesn't stay on, so I enabled Function Discovery Provider Host, Function Discovery Resource Publication, and SSDP Discovery in the services control panel. This caused the machine to show up in the browser, but it still can't be connected to.3.)Double checked the subnets just to be sure, they are the same.The server is attached to router 1 via ethernet. The desktop is attached to router 2 via ethernet, but the two routers connected over a wireless bridge (technically repeater bridge mode according DD-WRT).I also have a few wireless devices that are connected, but they seem relatively inconsequential. Unidentified Network - Can't Obtain Ip Address
Sep 27, 2012I have problem with my wifi. I can't connect to a specific network(can connect to others). I can connect to that network fine from other computer. This happened before, couldn't connect to this network for like a month and then it fixed itself somehow and it worked fine until now. I've tried release and renew but it didn't help, when renewing it said that cant my dhcp server for new ip.

I do not understand it, i have set my network to static IP, not receive from DHCP server from my router. I have confirmed that by "ipconfig /all"
I have "ping localhost" with no 4 replies and have "ping 192.168.0.11" which is my computer. I did not received all 4 replies either.
I have ping to my router (DHCP Server) and it works OK.
Is it possible something wrong with my Ethernet hardware or just Ethernet driver problem?
Possible cause: TCP/IP Stack or my Ethernet is corrupt. What I can do about it?

Aug 31, 2009I have been using Windows 7 for about a month now and two days ago i started to have network problems.
I cannot connect to the Internet or my network and keep getting messages saying that the network cable is unplugged when it is not. After a while i was able to get a different message and the computer connects to an unidentified network and when i troubleshoot this it tells me i have an invalid IP address.
I know the problem has got nothing to do with the hardware or my Internet. I have tried 2 other router's & another modem with different Ethernet cables with no luck but my network/Internet is working fine on my laptop which is also Windows 7.

By identify, I mean, when using "Network and Sharing Centre" on the basic network information page, the PC shows "Identifying" under "active networks" - no matter how long I leave the PC.

O/S: Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)
Modem Router details
Netgear N300 Wireless Dual Band ADSL2+ Modem Router
The main desktop is connected to the modem router (via Ethernet). The modem router is showing no sign of any problems itself, all the dashboard lights look ok (i.e. power is on, port 1 shows the Ethernet connection in place, both wireless bands are lit, the DSL is lit and so is the internet). The household contains a number of laptops which continue to work ok wirelessly and/or wired through Ethernet. Even mobile phones are accessing the wi-fi ok.
The DNS Server address looks ok, as that is the address of the web page to the router. I cannot access that web page (address) via the main desktop, but I can from other devices ok. Having gone through Device Manager the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller is showing as "working properly". I have tried pinging the DNS Server address, and that fail. I have gone through a system restore to a previous point (before the day of the crash) but that seems to have made no difference either.
I have attempted to set the IP addresses (for TCP/IPv4) directly
IP address 192.168.0.3
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1
And therefore forced to set the DNS Server address too
Preferred DNS server: 192.68.0.1
But I don't know what to set for the alternate DNS Server, so left blank. This seems to step me forward, in that the device/network is now identified. However the internet access is still not work, as the "DNS Server is not responding".
Connect To NAS Drive Via IP Address?
Feb 12, 2012I've just re-installed Windows 7 on my friend's computer. Previously, it was mapped to a network attached external drive in such a way that the IP address was shown for the NAS drive when you looked in Computer. I can't seem to make that happen now. When I go to Map Network Drive and put the IP address in on the folder line, Windows cannot find it. I've confirmed the IP address I am using is correct by looking on another computer in the network.
I am able to map it by browsing in Map Network Drive and finding the drive, but I'd like it to be like it was before, where it displays the IP address.
'No Internet Access' IP Address Shows Router Not The Modem IP Address
Jul 7, 2012My internet connection shows 'no internet access' even though my ISP shows the connection is coming into the house just fine. I usually use a router (NetGear-WNR3500U) but I right now I have the Ethernet connection plugged directly into my PC. I tried directly plugging into my laptop and the internet works just fine. So I know the problem resides in the PC.
Some troubleshooting things I have tried.
-Power cycled my modem, router and PC.
-Repinged my connection from my ISP(Comcast Xfinity)
-Used the reset option on the router and the modem
-I was walked through the internet options needed with the tech support from my ISP to make sure DHCP was enabled and every other setting was correct, and he cleared me that all settings were correct.
-Tried ipconfig commands to /renew and /release my IP When I tried ipconfig /renew I get the error 'An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server'
-Restored my PC to a restore point where the Internet was working
All of these options did not work.
What I think the problem is and I am not sure how to fix it, when I run the ipconfig /all command my Auto configuration IPv4 Address shows 169.254.112.76 which I was told is a router IP address even though I am plugged directly from the modem to my PC with an Ethernet cord. So I think that's my problem? But I am not sure.

Sep 1, 2011I'm having a problem with my network, which consists of 2 Windows 7 Ultimate x64 PCs.
My Dell laptop is connected through a wireless router to my HTPC and both computers share their Multimedia drives, where the connection worked perfectly in the old school workgroup network setup (no HOMEGROUP). I say workED, right up until a transfer of files from laptop to HTPC got disrupted as the HTPC suddenly crashed. I restarted it, deleted part of the files that got transfered, but now the connection only works one way: HTPC to Laptop.
I've tried every possible solution google gave me, but to no avail... I've tried defragmenting the HTPC disk, tried fixing errors on the disk, tried removing all sharing connections and making new ones... but keep getting the same message "You do not have permission to access \HTPCd". I even tried system restore on the HTPC, which was successful itself, but didn't fix my problem. I have both firewalls and antivirus software off for now. Network discovery is turned on for both computers, they are in the same workgroup. I've tried reseting the router as well.
Can it be that the broken file transfer screwed the HTPC disk up? I can access it without problems from the HTPC itself.

When any computer in the house, whether it be my laptop with Vista, my desktop with XP, or my other desktop with Windows 7 connects to that network drive it hangs for a couple minutes before being able to open the file, or copy the file. This happens on all 3 machines accessing the network drive on the central computer. USB Network As Drive / Disconnecting Drive?
May 18, 2011I have a External USB Drive that is Networked as a Network Drive, Windows7 will not allow me to disconnect the drive. The only option Seagate gave was to make sure the drive was not indexing which it's not, my goal is to disconnect the drive, connect it to another computer etc Followed by reconnecting it back to the previous computer and it continues on as a network drive or if I connect it to another computer it continues to act as network drive. Seagate told me that I'd have to purchase their NAS drive which I didn't want too.
