Loading A Program On A Drive Other Than C:?
Mar 17, 2012
main problem on this computer is thats it a windows XP motherboard trying desperately to run Win7. It can to a point, but is having issues as Win 7 improves etc. etc. Now my gaming rig is Win7 has a far better graphics platform but has a small C drive. Initially it ran Rfactor (online car racing, and I organize races for a team of guys, we do this weekly and consequently I have several other related programs) and that was all it was going to run. So since then another group of us play BF3 and I've always liked the golf games so I ported those to games across to the gaming rig - hence the reason they are on another drive. I could get another larger drive and start again from scratch but it is to damn awkward at the moment because of the racing season has started. Obviously there is a problem with TW writing log files to my I: drive but I would have thought Origin Had thought of that when they are saying that you can install the game on another drive (other than C: Drive)

I'm not 100% sure it's a sandbox program I need, but basically I want to be able to load up an XP program within Windows 7 without it being able to affect my Win 7 installation, and thought a Sandbox would be what I need, but those I've looked at tend to seem more related to specific programs themselves e.g. browsers, audio players etc.

I'm moving from an XP machine to a Windows 7 machine and have transferred my project files (engraving files as well as .bmp). When I try to open a project folder in any of the programs I use it takes 2-3 minutes for it to load all the filesThere are just over 10,000 files in the folder, they are all small files (nothing larger than 100k), and on the XP machine it loads in an instant.I have done everything I can find online (turned off indexing, changed the folder prefs, etc) and nothing works. When I open the folder within Windows it loads in an instant, however when I try to open it within a program is when it dragsDoes anybody have any ideas of what else I can try outside of threatening the computer with physical violence? Also as you can tell by my screen name I'm a mac user that has to use PCs at work.

Okay, so I'm ripping my audio CDs, and I just had a problem getting the drive to open, So I looked and saw a tiny hole on the drive, I stuck a paper clip in it and it opened.
Now however I cannot get it to detect any CDs. It will not load anything. Now I looked and I realized that my CD/DVD drive was not listed on my computer. I am trying to figure out what driver I had, so I can try re-installing it. I run a Dell Inspiron M5010 64 bit.

I just moved my Windows 7 partition to an SSD. While everything loads much faster, I still hear the mechanical drive being accessed on the boot logo screen and for a few seconds after the desktop appears. I have the page file, temp folder, and other system stuff all on the SSD. The only thing I think it should access on a mechanical partition is the wallpaper, but that's 2 MB max. Is there a way to have Windows log all of the files that are being accessed during boot?

I just turned on an almost new build pc to install windows 7. The entire pc is a new build except the hard drive that has a good copy of xp installed. I am trying to install a new copy of windows 7 on the hard drive. So I turned the pc on and go into the bios to set the DVD to boot first. So windows starts to install and the window is loading bar comes up. After the bar gets over half full, the screen drops and there is a line of h's on the left side of the screen and the installation freezes.

One particular site that is not loading at all, on any browsers on my computer is [URL]. There are many more that fail to load as well. I did test these sites on my iPhone with no problems though. There are a handful of other sites that do open but do not load properly [missing images, ect.] I also thought that it might be malware but I installed & scanned my computer with four different programs which did not solve the problem. I'm guessing that it still may be some problem on the software side with settings but I can't seem to figure out where to look. BTW, I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials as my antivirus program for the past couple of days now. Prior to that I was using Avira but it seemed to be giving me problems so I uninstalled it and installed the Microsoft app.

I have Windows 7 installed on an SSD and I'd like to keep the default program location on another drive with more room. I know how to redirect personal folders, but how do I redirect the Program Files and Program Files (x86) folders to a different drive. These folders already have some data in them; should that date be manually moved to the other drive or are they OK where they are?Actually, the real problem I'm having is browsing my computer as Administrator. My current account is an administrator type, but it seems that that is not the same as actually being logged on as the account Administrator. I'm sure if I was right clicking on the folders I want to redirect as Administrator, the Location tab would pop up just fine.

I bought a SSD 60GB and installed Windows. I have a 1TB storage drive, but I want everything to be defaulted there. I changed registry so that "Program Files" is default on the storage drive. But here is what is happening, I'm installing for example AI SUITE II to that directory, but it's still creating ASUS stuff on the SSD drive? Is there any way to get all parts of the program installed to the data drive?

I am running "windows backup and restore" on one of my external hard drives and WDsmartware (western digital software that came with my other external drive). WDsmartware eats up WAY to much resources. Would I be better off just using "windows backup and restore" for both drives? are there any free programs out there that are "better' than windows 7 "backup and restore"?

i'm looking to do a fresh install of Win 7 (mostly just to reorganize my HDD setup) and here's the catch - I have a secondary drive with all my games, program files, data, etc. and I'm wondering if there's an easy way to get the new Windows install to recognize these applications without having to reinstall them all. I know I could go into the registry and change keys, but that would probably take longer than reinstalling them all.

I have Windows installed on an SSD drive. I want to reroute all the users folder to another drive (D:). Is this possible? if so how? What about changing the specified installation folder for program files and program files (x86) to point to the D: drive also? How can I do this safely and making sure that it will not make Windows go a bit dodgy and still have Windows Updates successfully download and install?
