On my desktop I have a few shortcuts that have the UAC Shield on them. I assume this means that you must have administrative privileges to run it (correct me if I'm wrong). If it's important for any reason, I am the administrator. How can I get rid of that pesky icon?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI can use some help in understanding and fixing a vanished program icon. I'm running APC Personal 2.2 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Up until I noticed the other day the APC icon which was customized to show on taskbar did and was. Yesterday I noticed the icon gone. I ran it manually and the last recorded event was 9/1/10 and there have been at least one since then. I turned off the display icon and then turned it on an it appeared on the taskbar. Rebooted, not there. Used CCleaner to check startup programs and it showed that the program was listed to start. I disabled it and then re-enabled it and got a pop up from my firewall about it contacting home. Rebooted and it still did not appear.I feel as if the program is not running until I turn it on manually even though it says it is in the configurations section of the program.

I was experimenting with DPI Scaling and changed from 125% to 150%. Didn't like that so returned to 125% and when I returned to the desktop, all of the program icons had a generic icon that appears to be overlaid. Haven't been able to find anything to return the icons to normal.

I just loaded windows 7 64 bit os and I am having problem with the taskbar. When I open some programs like my anti virus software it will not open but the icon pops up in the task bar. When I run the mouse over the icon a small screen comes up over the icon but clicking on it will still not open the program. The little screen just disappears. Even when you go to explorer and try to open the program it still won't open. I have several programs that has this problem.

Try to open few iexplorer instances and then in taskbar properties in the "taskbar button" dropdown select "Combine when taskbar is full" . Now hover over the explorer icon it displays blank preview. Please view attachment for further details.

However I think something might have gone wrong when I give my external HDD a drive letter that was held by one of the flash card reader).I wrote "I think" because I am not really sure since I never wanted to use the internal card reader till today so I never noticed there was an issue. Anyway, the internal card reader does not show up even when I insert a card in the reader. Basically nothing happens. I have uninstalled the "USB Mass storage device" and it gets installed without any issue but the problem is still there: I can't see the reader. the INTERNAL flash card reader has a USB slot and when I insert a EXTERNAL flash drive, the EXTERNAL flash drive shows up.

I have set my Windows 7 installation so that ExpressIt is the default program to open these files. Double-clicking an .exp file should therefore open that CD label in the ExpressIt program.However, when I double-click an .exp file, the ExpressIt program does not open so that I can work with the file. If I run the ExpressIt program first, then 'Open' the file from within the program, it all works fine.(The problem with this 'workaround' is that when going to Open the file, its default directory is nowhere near the directories containing my .exp files and takes ages to browse to, so I don't want to do it like that).
View 6 Replies View RelatedI know, should have a backup, I was actually about to create a backup when the flash drive failed on me unfortunately. My newest backup is from about 5 days ago, so I'd prefer to be able to restore the current files.
I moved the drive over to another computer and tried to save a file but when I checked again the file was gone, like it never saved at all. Subsequently, after removing and plugging it back in the computer did not detect the drive (or see it in disc management). It does show up as a generic USB drive in the device manager, but there are no properties for it.
When I add it to a computer, it still adds drivers for it, but then nothing happens after that. It may also be a hardware problem, since the drive fell on the ground pretty hard a while back, but seemed to be working fine. There isn't an easy way to open it up and check.
I also tried using a few data recovery programs, but they couldn't detect the drive either.

I have windows 7 and office on my laptop and I want it on my desktop pc. There isn't close to 64gb of info on my laptop so it should be fine even though the hard drive says I have 160gb. It is all free space except for those programs.

I recently ran into a very weird windows 7 bit problem after installing it on my desktop. I cannot copy large files/ holders into usb flash drive or write large files to cd/ dvd. The copying/ moving process would stay on for about 5-10 seconds then freezes then I get an error message. That is:
H: refers to a location that is unavailable. it could be on a hard drive on this computer...
I have all the latest drivers.
And windows/ nero 9 can't use my dvd drive to burn files.
Some info about my system: AMD X4 630 CPU. MSI KA780G (AMD 780G chipset) mobo. I have 2 sata hdds, non raid mode. The DVD drive is IDE. 4gb ram ddr2 ram. windows 7 64 bit.
